And then interviews to remarkable personalities, such as Greg Dacyshyn (‘chief creative officer’ at Burton), Giorgio Bartocci (eclectic and unstoppable Italian urban-artist) and Alessandro Torricelli (mind behind the ‘trip’ of KD2024 apparel-accessory brand). ADIDAS MICRO PACER 1984 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Le rivoluzionarie ‘adidas Micro Pacer’ furono prodotte dal marchio tedesco in onore delle Olimpiadi di Los Angeles nel 1984, lo stesso anno in cui la Apple realizzò il capostipite della sua famiglia di computer, il Macintosh. Questa citazione non è casuale, infatti queste sneakers, oltre a sembrare appena uscite da un’astronave (colorazione argento e ghetta coprilacci inediti per quel periodo), erano le prime scarpe ad avere un microprocessore sulla linguetta sinistra: il mini computer era in grado di rilevare la distanza, la media del passo e persino le calorie consumate! Nella collezione FW-2014 di Vans troviamo la ‘Mountain Edition’, una linea di scarpe e abbigliamento pensata per resistere agli agenti atmosferici.

Le ‘Era MTE’ e la ‘Sk8-Hi MTE’ si rinnovano sia nella suola, con una waffle in versione tassellata, sia nelle tomaie, trattate con tecnologia Scotchgard.

Le giacche ‘Dixon’, ‘Santa Fe’ e ‘Tanka’ sono state ideate pensando al mondo dello snowboard, ma presentano dettagli d’ispirazione street (come patch e applicazioni a contrasto) oltre ad avere una vestibilità più slim.

In Vans’ FW-2014 collection we find the ‘Mountain Edition’, an apparel and footwear line thought to stand up to the elements. The ‘Era MTE’ and ‘Sk8-Hi MTE’ got renewed both in the sole, with a tessellated version waffle, and in the upper, treated with Scotchgard technology. The ‘Dixon’, ‘Santa Fe’ and ‘Tanka’ jackets were imagined thinking about the snowboard world, but they show more street-inspired details (such as patches and contrast applications) besides having a slimmer vestibility.

X HUICHOL Gli Huichol hanno il loro posto nella storia indigena messicana come popolazione nativa sopravvissuta alla missione francescana e al colonialismo spagnolo; conservano la loro lingua e i loro costumi da secoli, continuando a vivere quasi come hanno sempre fatto, isolati dalla realtà moderna ma a volte mischiandosi con essa. Una fra queste eccezioni è la collaborazione realizzata con Vans, dove una ‘Sk8-Hi LX’ e una ‘Slip-On LX’ sono state interessate da una rivisitazione tramite l’arte della comunità Huichol, che fonde ricamo, perline e colore in delle lavorazioni artigianali tramandate negli anni.

Huichol people have their place in Mexican indigenous history as a native population who survived the Franciscan mission and the Spanish colonialism; they’ve saved their language and their costumes over the centuries, keeping on living almost as they always did, isolated by the modern reality but sometimes blending into it. One among those exceptions is the collaboration with Vans, where a ‘Sk8-Hi LX’ and a ‘Slip-On LX’ have been the stage for a reinterpretation through the art of the Huichol community, mixing embroidery, pearls and colour in artisan handiworks handed down time after time.

Questa volta Vans esplora il lato oscuro della forza nella nuova collaborazione con il marchio Star Wars, introducendo grafiche ispirate ai ‘cattivi’ della trilogia intergalattica. A partire dalle ‘Era’, con pattern ‘Storm Camo’, passando per le ‘Sk8-Hi’, adornate dal motivo ‘Pirate’ - rieditato con l’immagine di Darth Vader - grafica ripresa per t-shirt, cappellini e zaini. Si conclude con le ‘Slip-On’, in cui il protagonista della fantasia è ancora il signore dei Sith, e infine le ‘Authentic’, che completano l’assortimento con una scena ambientata sul pianeta ghiacciato Hoth.

This time Vans explores the dark side of the force in the new collaboration with Star Wars sign, introducing graphics inspired to the ‘villains’ of the intergalactic trilogy. Starting from the ‘Era’, with the ‘Storm Camo’ pattern, passing through the ‘Sk8-Hi’, enriched by the ‘Pirate’ motif - re-edited with Dart Vader’s image - a graphic reused for t-shirts, caps and backpacks. In 1904 Isaac Spiewak started producing homemade sheep-skin vests for stevedores on the Brooklyn waterfront. Today, over a century after, the company Isaac supplied the working class of that time with represents an icon for the men haute couture for its efficient garments.

Since 1989, year when the ‘New Balance 577’ was made for the first time, this model has always been produced into NB factory in Flimby, Cumbria, in England.

After a ten-year honoured service as the trail-running range top shape, the ‘577’ got officially dropped out from the ‘Performance’ collection in 2001, to be then refiled in the following season ‘Classic Heritage’ line.

Even so, for many runners the ‘M577NG’ remained one of the best trail models ever made - and as such its most passionated fans kept on using it until 2005. In twentyfive years at Flimby’s 132 different versions of ‘577’ were launched. Most of them were the guests of the New Balance ‘Classics’ collections in the latest decade, others got very sought-after limited-edition fruit of the collaborations with the best designers and sneaker-stores worldwide... and others actually never passed the prototype phase.

In each and all of them there’s the Made in England essence and, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ‘577’, New Balance’s again welcoming its version with the original 1989 colour and fabrics in the ‘Classics’ line. GREG DACYSHYN ITW CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER AT BURTON SNOWBOARDS Durante la visita di Jake Burton Carpenter al Burton Store di Milano, oltre a lui stesso, abbiamo avuto il piacere di intervistare il Creative Director Greg Dacyshyn… eccovi il nostro botta e risposta.

Ciao Greg, puoi raccontarci del tuo background prima di entrare nella Burton family?

Parte del mio background è stata forgiata da ‘affari di famiglia’; mio padre era nel ministero per la cultura e lo sport della Russia, lui è canadese ma era una sorta di agente per gli eventi sportivi e socio-culturali, quindi ho ruotato molto attorno alla sua figura; pensa che ho anche lavorato con il circo di Mosca, sono stato in tour con loro per ben due anni quando ne avevo diciotto. Ma la mia passione più grande è sempre stata il prodotto, ho lavorato molto nei negozi fin da quando avevo quindici anni e leggevo riviste come Vogue dall’età di dieci… un po’ strano sicuramente, ma in qualche modo sapevo già cos’avrei fatto nella vita. Quando mio padre è venuto a mancare mi si è presentata un’occasione alla Burton, azienda che ho sempre ammirato, dove all’epoca lavorava uno dei miei più cari amici; non ci ho pensato su molto e ho preso la decisione che mi ha cambiato la vita, verso la strada che volevo realmente intraprendere.

Quanto il tuo stile personale influenza il tuo lavoro?

Partiamo dal fatto che il mio stile è un po’ pazzo, no? A parte questo, cerco sempre di mettere del mio in quello che faccio, ciò che più mi piace, senza superare il 10-20% del lavoro finale… questo per rendere l’abbigliamento più facile da indossare, sempre mantenendosi in linea con le richieste del mercato per cui uno disegna. Cerchiamo di lanciare i trend e non di seguire le mosse degli altri, differenziandoci e anzi rimanendo in cima al resto del gruppo; ho sempre pensato a Burton non come un brand fashion, ma lifestyle, e inoltre amo il fatto che Jake dia molto valore ai prodotti ben fatti… siamo sulla stessa lunghezza d’onda, realizzare tutto con la massima funzionalità senza tralasciare il buon gusto, facile da indossare in qualunque situazione.

Quali sono le tue passioni personali, hobby, quello che più ti affascina?

Sicuramente amo viaggiare, sembra il più classico dei cliché ma in realtà ho molti amici sparsi qua e là che mi piace andare a trovare di tanto in tanto; mi affascina anche il lato più introspettivo del viaggio in sé, fantasticare mentre ci si perde in un luogo sconosciuto, scoprire nuovi ambienti e al contempo riscoprire me stesso. Adoro far festa, che non si riduce solo a ‘sballarsi’, ma uscire con gli amici e condividere storie, risate… proprio per questo amo l’Italia, andare di sera in una delle vostre piazze accoglienti sorseggiando un drink e chiacchierando fino a tardi; infatti sono un tipo notturno, non rientro di certo nella categoria dei mattinieri! Dulcis in fundo, sono pienamente immerso nel mio lavoro, vado pazzo per il prodotto e sono anche ossessivocompulsivo, compro tutto quello che ritengo cool! Infine, far parte della famiglia Burton significa anche passare molto tempo con i ragazzi, è fantastico, ti danno un’energia senza eguali e ti aiutano a rimanere (o meglio sentirti) giovane, insegnandoti sempre qualcosa durante il percorso.

Come organizzi la tua ricerca per i fit, il design, i materiali… come ti prepari a una nuova collezione?

In realtà non esiste una vera preparazione, in qualche modo accade… certo, ho uno staff molto qualificato che lavora con me, archivio e ricerca dei materiali, professionisti dei fit e del design,

ma l’ispirazione vien da sé, viaggiando da una parte all’altra, in qualunque momento della giornata… credo che faccia parte del vivere la vita stessa, assorbiamo come delle spugne prendendo spunto da tutto quello che ci sta intorno, cercando sempre di divertirci. Mi sono accorto che chi ruota intorno al mondo fashion lo prende troppo seriamente, senza godersi quello che fa… noi di Burton amiamo il nostro lavoro, passare dei bei momenti mentre si produce, sempre nell’ottica di realizzare un prodotto che renda felice chi lo indossa.

Da quali zone del mondo trai ispirazione?

Molti dicono Giappone perché è quello che si risponde in questo periodo... io amo realmente quella zona, sono passionali verso il prodotto e ossessivi-compulsivi un po’ come me; hanno le collezioni di vintage americano più fornite di tutte il mondo, sono dei fanatici a tutti gli effetti! Hanno la particolarità di prendere qualcosa e portarlo al massimo possibile con dettagli ricercati senza pari; ho anche qualche amico lì, come Hiroki Nakamura, fondatore del brand visvim - eravamo sempre insieme quando era marketing director alla Burton Snowboards e in quell’epoca demmo inizio al progetto Gravis.

Quali sono i materiali che preferisci? E quali per il futuro?

Amo il denim, è un tessuto che ha una vita propria e ti accompagna nel tuo viaggio, migliora invecchiando giorno per giorno… si percepisce che è stato realizzato per una causa, uno scopo. Sono un collezionista di capi vintage da lavoro, ne ho una vasta selezione; non butto via mai niente, sono convinto che i vestiti migliorino con l’età (spero); ho anche pezzi di tessuto sparsi, parti di indumenti - tutti oggetti da cui traggo ispirazione.

Vi ricordate le passate Olimpiadi? Per la nazionale americana di snowboard ho creato un giubbotto con una sorta di denim sublimato ispirato al ‘boro’; è una tecnica giapponese che ricorda un patchwork di tessuti differenti, e io amo questo tipo di lavorazione che nasce dalla necessità. Rimango affascinato da tutto ciò che ha personalità, che possa raccontare una storia, da ciò che in qualche maniera è stato vissuto. Per quanto riguarda il futuro vogliamo sviluppare un tessuto che sia resistente e durevole, che trasmetta questa sensazione ma, allo stesso tempo, che sia ultra-leggero e invogli a indossarlo.

Quali saranno le nuove tendenze nel mondo snowboard?

Per quanto mi riguarda vedo una sorta di stile surf psichedelico, un po’ hippie insieme a un pizzico di cowboy… sono strani insieme, ma è la vibrazione che sento in questo periodo, qualcosa di naturale, easy, cool, ma tenace allo stesso tempo. Voglio che la gente si diverta indossando i capi della mia nuova collezione, amare ciò che veste come noi adoriamo il nostro lavoro!

Puoi parlarci brevemente della nuova collezione BRTN? È una sorta di capsule-collection proiettata verso l’urban, la street-culture… una linea cool per i giovani d’oggi, mantiene comunque l’identità del brand ma si avvicina alla tendenza di strada di questo periodo.

Cosa pensi di Burton Snowboards?

Jake è una persona a cui mi sono sempre ispirato, è quasi il mio mentore, sempre propositivo e con una voglia di fare contagiosa… non potrei lavorare da nessun’altra parte se non alla Burton, ci impegniamo duramente ma facciamo quello che ci piace divertendoci, cercando di creare prodotti per la montagna ma anche per il lifestyle. We keep doing great!

Hi Greg, could you tell us about your background before entering the Burton family?

Part of my background was moulded by ‘family affairs’, my father was in the Russian Ministry for sport and culture, he’s Canadian but he was a sort of agent for the sports and social-cultural events, so I revolved a lot around his figure; think that I’ve even worked with the circus of Moscow, I was on tour with them for a whole two years when I was eighteen. But my greatest passion has always been the product, I’ve been working a lot in the shops since I was fifteen and since ten I used to read magazines like Vogue... a bit odd for sure, but in a certain sense I already knew what I would do in my life. When my father passed away I got an occasion from Burton, a company I always admired, where at the time was employed one of my dearest friends; I didn’t think much about it and I took the decision that changed my life, toward the street I really did want to walk.

How much does your personal style influence your work?

Let’s start by the fact that my stile’s a bit crazy, isn’t it? Apart from that, I always try to put something mine in what I’m doing, what I like most, without exceeding the 10-20% of the final work... that in order to make the apparel easier to wear, always sticking to the demand of the market one designs for. We try to set trends and not to follow other’s moves, standing out and actually leading the group; I’ve always thought at Burton not as a fashion brand, but as a lifestyle one, in addition I love the fact that Jake places a value on well-crafted products... we’re on the same wavelenght, making everything with the maximum functionality without giving up good taste, easy to wear on any occasion.

What are your personal passions, hobbies, what fascinates you mostly?

Definitely I love to travel, it seems the most classic of clichés but actually I’ve a lot of friends all over the map I like to join now and again; I’m fascinated also by the most introspective side of the trip itself, to stargaze while getting lost in an unknown place, discovering new landscapes and all the while re-discovering me myself. I love to party, which doesn’t stand for ‘getting high’, but hanging around with friends and share stories, laughs... indeed for that I love Italy, going to your cozy squares in the evening sipping a drink till late, as I’m a nighttime guy, I’m definetely not featured in the morning person category! Dulcis in fundo, I’m fully into my own work, I go crazy for the product and I’m also an obsessive-compulsive, I buy everything I see as cool! Finally, being part of the Burton family means also to spend a lot of time with the guys, it’s fantastic, they give you a peerless energy and help you stay (or better, feel) young, always teaching you something during the iter.

How do you organise your research for fits, design, materials... how do you get prepared for a new collection?

Actually a real preparation doesn’t exist, in a way it happens... sure, I’ve got a very skilled staff working with me, archive and fabrics research, fit and design experts, but the inspiration comes on its own, travelling from an area to another, in any moment of the day... I think it’s part of living life itself, we absorb like sponges taking the clue from everything surrounding us, always trying to have fun. I noticed that the ones moving around fashion world take it too seriously, without enjoying what they do... at Burton we love our job, spending good times while producing, always in order to create a product that will make happy who wears it.

Which world zones do you draw inspiration from?

Many say Japan because it’s what they reply nowadays... I really love that zone, they’re passionate with the products and a bit obsessive-compulsive as myself; they got the American vintage clothing better supplied collections worldwide, they’re fanatics to all intents and purposes! They have the particularity of taking something and bringing it to the top possible with polished nonesuch details; I even got some friends there, like Hiroki Nakamura, visvim brand’s founder - we were always together when he used to be Burton Snowboards’ creative director and that time we started off Gravis project.

Which are the fabrics you prefer? And which ones for the future?

I love denim, it’s a fabric which has its own life and goes along with you in your travel, it gets better aging day after day... you sense it has been made for a purpose, an aim. I’m a vintage workwear collector, I got a large selection; I never throw anything away, I’m certain clothings evolute within time (I hope); I even got scattered offcuts, garments parts - all items I draw inspiration from. Do you remember past Olympics? For American 087

snowboard national team I created a jacket with a sort of sublimate denim inspired by ‘boro’; a Japanese technique recalling a patchwork of different cloths, and I love this kind of making born from the need. I get fascinated by everything having personality, which can tell a story, by everything that somehow has been lived. Regarding the future we want to develop a fabric which has to be tough and durable, which passes that feel but, all the while, super lightweight and tempts to wear it.

What are going to be the new trends in the snowboard world?

As far as I’m concerned I see a sort of surf psychedelic style, a bit hippie plus a cowboy hint... they’re strange together, but it’s the vibe I feel in this period, something natural, easy, cool, but tenacious at the same time. I want people to have fun wearing my new collection’s pieces, to love what they wear as much as we adore our job!

Can you briefly tell us about the new BRTN collection?

It’s a sort of capsule-collection aimed toward urban, street-culture... a cool line for today youth, it saves anyhow the brand identity yet approaching the street trend of this period.

What do you think of Burton Snowboards?

Jake is a person I always got inspiration from, he’s almost my mentor, always positive and with a contagious itch to do... I couldn’t work anywhere else but Burton, we make many efforts but we do what we like having fun with it, trying to create products for the mountain yet for the lifestyle too. We keep doing great!

BE STREET WEEKND 2K-14 THE PLACE TO BE (STREET)!

La mia amica Klaretta del Boombarstick m’ha illuminato sul Be Street (trimestrale francese di street-culture molto ben fatto) e invitato per il suo Weeknd ‘14, così, visto che avevo bisogno d’aria fresca - e sapevo ne sarebbe valsa la pena - son saltato sul TGV per Paris...

Là, alla ‘Grande halle de la Villette’ (location strafiga, perfetta per l’evento, un ex-mattatoio dell’800 che oggi brilla di un’architettura di vetro e ferro) in due giorni s’è svolta una vera e propria fiera streetwear. Be Street non ha messo in piedi un semplice mercatino con gli stand di brand grandi e ‘meno’, ma avevano pure un half-pipe per gli skater che volavano ‘sopra’ ai dj, che a loro volta li infottavano coi beat più ciccioni in lista, poi artisti come Timber o L’Amour Supreme all’opera (ma anche altri) e perfino un autoscontro in mezzo allo spazio espositivo, touché!

Consiglio di vedervi i video (su be-street.com) per scoprire meglio l’evento, dove - passando invece alle label - ho ‘scovato’ delle cose interessanti, ah, tra tutti loro ho notato tre macro-trend: Satanismo-occultismo a manetta, spesse dosi di bianco-nero e pattern pazzerelli, bene bene, ve ne do una sintesi attraverso le tees e gli accessori dei ‘meno grossi e più interessanti’. Ma, prima di lasciarvi al recap, lasciatemi fare un ‘merci’ a Klaretta e uno alla gang Be Street - check the Be Street Weeknd 2K-14 selecta!

My friend Klaretta from Boombarstick told me about Be Street (French street-culture quarterly mag, very well done) and invited me to its Weeknd ‘14, so, since I needed fresh air - plus I imagined it would be worthy - I jumped on the TGV to Paris...

There, at the ‘Grande halle de la Villette’ (a supercool location, perfectly fitting the event, an ex-abattoir of the ‘800s that today shines by a glass and iron architecture) in two days happened a proper streetwear fair. Be Street didn’t simply set-up an expo-market with the stands of big brands and ‘smaller’ ones, but they also had a half-pipe for the skaters flying ‘over’ the djs who in turn excited them with the fattest beats of their sets, then artists such as Timber or L’Amour Supreme on the job (and others too) and even a dodgem-track in the heart of the expositive space, touché!

The advice is to watch its videos (on be-street.com) to discover better the event, where - speaking about labels actually - I ‘sought out’ many interesting things, oh, among all them I noticed three macro-trends; Satanism-occultism balls out, massive doses of black-white and madcap patterns, well well, I’ll summarize all that through the tees and accessories by the ‘less big yet more interesting’ of them. But, before leaving you to the recap, let me give a ‘merci’ to Klaretta and another to Be Street gang - check the Be Street Weeknd 2K-14 selecta!

Sarà anche Wasted (‘distrutto’), ma cazzo se è vivo! Questo sfacciato brand parigino è nato nel 2012 grazie a Xiang Fang YE e Johann Liebel, fanatici di vintage e streetwear. Ispirato dalla scena musicale dei ‘90, così come da cinematografia e skate, Wasted confeziona fresco fresco apparel, accessori e tavole da skate di ottima fattura anche collaborando con artisti internazionali per serie limitate. Qui vi mostriamo le sue tees ‘Devil Blanc’, ‘Knife Noir’, ‘Allover Smiths’, ‘Storm Blanc’, ‘Allover Pollock’e ‘Allover Cross’ - c’han stregato la loro ‘ironia profana’ e i pattern all-over più che creativi (quello caleidoscopico e quello con le croci al contrario 666 son proprio matti!)...

Inspired by the 90’s music scene, as well as by cinematography and skate, Wasted crafts smart top-notch apparel, accessories and skate-decks also collaborating with international artists for limited edition series. La label inglese nata alla fine del 2012, infatti, si differenzia per l’’essenzialità’ del proprio mood (l’incubo di chi teme l’horror vacui!); raffinata e moderata, mai ‘sgargiante o sopra le righe’. Lo dimostra ogni caratteristica dei suoi prodotti (apparel ma anche borse e non solo); forme, colori, grafiche ecc... è tutto un gioco di sottrazione, come di purezza. Molto chic ma al tempo stesso urban le magliette ‘STAG Baseball’, ‘All Hart’ e ‘Varsity’ - e guardate soprattutto questa catenella ‘Antler Chain’ e dite che non è un must-have! Incline all’uso di grosse grafiche che evocano scenari gotici, iconografie sinistre, magia nera e via dicendo, RSI Apparel crea opere (dall’apparel ad alcuni artwork) - spesso in edizione limitata - che rappresentano il ‘lato oscuro’ della creatività che vive del network che crea... per cui occhio alle magliette ‘Occult’, ‘The Guide’, ‘Rumpus Face’, ‘Baphomet Girl’ e ‘Always One Weaker’... RSI Apparel, black is the new black - irresistibile dark shit!

At RSI Apparel, design is king. Actually the British ‘brand’ active from 2012 works close quarters with artists and illustrators in an open community to pop out quality items able to support the talent and commitment of those who believe in the project. ABANDON SHIP

A parte per il nome, non sembra che Abandon Ship navighi in cattive acque.

Anche perché - a giudicare dall’apparel accuratamente confezionato dal brand (lanciato in Scozia, nel 2011) - appare evidente la maestria della crew di AS. Se non vedete non credete? Ahssì, allora date un occhio alle magliette ‘BBQ’, ‘At Sea/Sin Eater’, ‘Mandala’, ‘Tribeca’, ‘Lights’ e ‘Hand of God’ - avete cambiato idea?... Tra pattern di mandala, teschi o geometrie spigolose e pois, più rimandi oscuri e spirituali al contempo, con le collezioni della label di Glasgow indossate apparel di prima scelta (per tagli, materiali e design) - attitudine trendsetter. Per cui, pensateci bene prima che decidiate di Abandon Ship.

Despite its name, Abandon Ship doesn’t seem to navigate dangerous waters. Also because - judging by the very well-crafted apparel by the brand (started off in Scotland, in 2011) - it stands to reason the AS crew know-how. Don’t you believe if you don’t see first? Cool, so take a look at those ‘BBQ’, ‘At Sea/Sin Eater’, ‘Mandala’, ‘Tribeca’, ‘Lights’ and ‘Hand of God’ tees - did you change your mind?... Among patterns with mandalas, skulls, polka-dots, plus obscure and spiritual recalls all the while, with Glasgow label’s collections you’ll wear blue-ribbon apparel (for shapes, fabrics and designs) - trendsetter attitude. So, think well before you eventually decide to Abandon Ship.

DUDES FACTORY

Il berlinese Dudes Factory ‘scherza’ ma non scherza affatto. Eclettico e inarrestabile, dal 2011 questa label-shop-gallery collabora con street-artist (e non solo) per creare apparel, accessori e artwork da paura; davvero interessanti le scelte dei Dudes - specialmente per quanto riguarda gli ‘extra’ (come stampe giclée su legno o piatti in ceramica bavarese fatti a mano, e molto, molto altro ancora!). Ecco le tees ‘Party’ e ‘Full Throttle’, più il suo piatto ‘Happy Meal’, il boccale ‘Liquid Gold’ e la fiaschetta ‘Down The Hatch’. Gli immaginari visivi di DF spaziano con naturalezza da urban-art fino a tattoo - anche qui il b/n la fa da padrone - e tutto ciò che ci passa in mezzo, basta che sia fresco. Come ogni idea dei Dudes... dirty deeds from Germany!

Berliner Dudes Factory ‘plays around’ but doesn’t mess around at all. Eclectic and unstoppable, from 2011 this label-shop-gallery has collaborated with street-artists (and not only) to create terrific apparel, accessories and artworks; really interesting all the Dudes’ choices - especially regarding the ‘extras’ (such as giclée prints on wood or Bavarian ceramics handcrafted plates, and much, much more!). Here’s their ‘Party’ and ‘Full Throttle’ tees, in addition to the ‘Happy Meal’ plate, the ‘Liquid Gold’ stein and the ‘Down The Hatch’ flask. DF’s visual themes space naturally from urban-arts up to tattoos - also here b/w pick rules the roost - and everything passing in the middle of that, as long as it’s fresh. Like any idea by the Dudes... dirty deeds from Germany!

GIORGIO BARTOCCI ITW THE SOCIAL TENSION OF ‘LIQUID MODERNITY’

C’è un urban-artist italiano che con i suoi artwork a scatole cinesi da graffitismo del futuro dà forma ai mille volti della ‘modernità liquida’; si chiama Giorgio Bartocci e nei suoi pezzi si respira tutta la tensione sociale che caratterizza il presente. Gli abbiamo chiesto ‘perché dipinge come dipinge’, questo è ciò che ci siam detti.

There’s an Italian urban-artist shaping the thousand faces of ‘liquid modernity’ through his future graffitism pyramid structured artworks; his name’s Giorgio Bartocci and into his pieces you can breathe the social tension characterizing the present days. We asked him why he ‘paints like he paints’, here’s our little talk.

Ciao Giorgio, fa’ finta che sia un profano davanti alle tue opere per la prima volta: sbaglierei a vederci primitive influenze graffitiste, anche se ‘evolute’?

Hi Giorgio, pretend I’m a profane in front of your artworks for the first time; would I be wrong seeing there primitive graffitism influences, even if ‘evolved’?

Ciao regaz, ho iniziato nel ‘97 a fare graffiti e non ho mai smesso, da quel momento mi sono catapultato in un mondo nuovo, ricco di stimoli creativi, che m’ha portato poi a sviluppare anche una forte sensibilità per le arti visive. Non ti sbagli, le influenze primitiviste sono, nell’arte, il mio punto di osservazione numero uno, che ho stravolto nel mio percorso sia da writer che da urban-artist.

Hello bros, I started graffiti in ‘97 and I never stopped, from that moment I got projected in a new world, rich of ceative inputs, that finally led me to develop a strong sensitivity toward visual arts as well. You’re not wrong, the primitive influences are - regarding art my number one point of view, which through my iter I shook up both as a writer and as a urban-artist.

A question that ‘seems’ to be dumb; why do you paint like you paint? I mean, how much does your mark count, is it instinctive or reflective?

Una domanda che ‘sembra’ stupida: perché dipingi come dipingi? Cioè, quanto conta il tuo segno, è istintivo o riflessivo?

I paint for a psycophysical need, I can’t go without it. It’s my whole life. I alternate various techniques and my mark is what you are and how you represent it, it’s all I built in my imaginary. In my opinion seeking for your style and sticking to it with resolution is myself’s mirror, my soul’s one, what I am.

Dipingo per necessità psico-fisica, non posso farne a meno. È tutta la mia vita. Alterno numerose tecniche e il segno è quello che sei e come lo rappresenti, è tutto quello che ho costruito nel mio immaginario. La ricerca di un tuo stile e la costanza nel mantenerlo, per me rappresentano lo specchio di me stesso, della mia anima, ciò che sono.

Among canvas, collage and wallpainting, you keep a quickly identifiable style yet switching many ‘visual codes’, how-why do you turn your forms?

Fra tele, collage e wallpainting, mantieni uno stile subito riconoscibile che però alterna diversi ‘codici visivi’; come e perché muti le tue forme?

Non amo fare sempre la stessa cosa, mi piace mettermi in gioco, lavorando su supporti diversi: gli spazi abbandonati, le tele e le hall of fame... devo raccontarti com’è andata nel mio percorso. Alterno la passione per il writing a quella per l’arte, con attitudini molto differenti che per anni sono state unite; ora ho nettamente diviso le due strade. Coi graffiti non comunico ciò che faccio con l’arte, sono azioni per sensazioni interiori rivolte a un pubblico esclusivo, che comprende quel complesso codice. Con l’arte comunico la mia interiorità, l’integrità stilistica, ampliando il raggio di critica e usando differenti codici sviluppati nella mia bipolare carriera. Sono felice di avere questi due volti anche se spesso è stato difficile averli separati in strade opposte. Nell’arte, nei miei codici, è onnipresente l’umanoide nero in tensione o strafottente-sorridente dagli occhi fosforescenti. Mi piace cambiare i contesti in cui gravitano i miei personaggi, in lotta nell’antitesi fra loro. Traggo ispirazione dalla società odierna attento a tutto ciò che è nato all’origine della specie, mutandolo in forme fluide multispecie grazie a una chiave graffitista-primitivista moderna. I miei supporti e tecniche sono vari, amo il collage su tele di cotone simulando le azioni su parete, e uso smalti naturali e tempere con aste e rulli, alternati a carte strappate e collanti.

Nelle tue opere così stratificate, quanto la tecnica influenza il contenuto, e viceversa?

La tecnica è vitale per esprimere il tuo flow ogni volta, è con lei che raggiungi il tuo significare. Rappresento coi miei personaggi riflessioni personali su una società complessa, in un’evoluzione corrotta, ricorrendo a forme sociali frammentate, fotografate di fronte a un filtro di perplessità e input di brutalità fluttuanti in un mondo che non esiste - ma tutti sanno che è così. Le superfici che uso (pareti pubbliche o spazi abbandonati) hanno la loro vita, sono un ulteriore universo che muta i tuoi approcci, influenzandone i contenuti da creare con tecniche ricorrenti e diverse.

La tua arte ha una forte capacità evocativa; ci tieni a comunicare col pubblico, come ci dialoghi per immagini?

Dialogo con la strada e chi la vive, specialmente grazie al muralismo, fenomeno che si rivolge gratuitamente a un ampio target di persone e caratteri. Dialogando per immagini, segni e simboli ricorrenti racconto una storia fatta di gente in stretta connessione, anime compromesse da una vita dura, cercando di emozionare con il dinamismo e l’improvvisazione, generando ricordi o interrogativi su chi siamo e come ce la viviamo.

Credi che l’arte abbia un ‘linguaggio universale’? L’abilità di parlare a tutti e ‘far network’ con altri artisti e creativi?

Credo proprio di sì, l’Arte in strada più di ogni altra. Amo stuzzicare i fruitori dei miei pezzi con lo specchio della figura umana in trasformazione, tra forze centrifughe e centripete, in un dinamismo della specie spesso interrotto da scenari astratti e caos multiforme. C’è un notevole confronto tra street-artist, graffitisti e fanatici del settore (e non), il network si genera quando si rientra in un contesto specifico, nel mio caso l’urban-art, il post-graffitismo fanno parte di un lungo percorso condiviso coi writer prima e con critici e curatori oggi.

I don’t love to do the same thing over and over, I like to expose myself, working on different supports; abandoned places, canvas and halls of fame... I’ve to tell you how my iter happened. I interchange the passion for writing with that for art, with pretty diverse attitudes that have been united over years; now I definitely divided the two paths. Through graffiti I don’t communicate what I do with art, it’s an interior sensation-led action dedicated to an exclusive public, who understands that complex code. Through art I communicate my inner being, my stylistic integrity, enlarging the critique ray and using different codes enhanced during my bipolar career. I’m happy to have these two faces even if it’s often been difficult to separate them into opposite routes. In art, in my codes, it’s omnipresent the tensed up or badass-smiling black humanoid with its glow-in-the-dark eyes. I like to change the scenarios where my characters revolve around, fighting in the antithesis among them. I draw inspiration from the contemporary society careful toward everything born at the origin of species, transforming it into multi-species fluid forms thanks to a modern primitivism-graffitism key. My supports and techniques are various, I love collage on cotton-canvas simulating the actions on wall, and I use natural paints and varnishes with poles and rollers, matched with torn off papers and glues.

Per il futuro, puoi svelarci dove potremo scovare e ‘decodificare’ le tue opere?

Mi sto dedicando alla produzione di un paio di pareti per ‘Recover’ e una mostra personale da Grauen Studio che inaugureremo il 13 dicembre a Monza (‘7 Fragments’), ho da poco terminato una produzione di tees e sto realizzando una parete e delle stampe d’Arte sperimentali in serigrafia con Pigmenti d’Autore di Bergamo; un progetto di pittura su metallo per il Museo MAAM di Roma e una mostra in Svezia per l’estate 2015.

In your so stratified artworks, how much do the technique influence the content, and viceversa?

Technique’s vital in order to express your flow every time, it’s which you get your meaning with. Through my characters I portrait personal thoughts about a complex society, in a corrupted evolution, recurring to fragmented social structures, photographed both in front of a perplexity filter and a brutality input floating into a nonexistent world - but everybody knows it’s like that. The surfaces I use (public walls or abandoned spots) have their own life, they’re a further universe turning your methods, influencing your contents to be created with recurring and different techniques.

Your art got a strong evoking capability; you care about establishing a debate with the public, how do you discuss with it through images?

I speak with the streets and who lives it, especially thanks to muralism, a free phenomenon addressed to a huge target of persons and characters. Debating through images, signs and symbols I tell a story made of people strictly tied, souls compromised by a tough life, trying to move with dynamism and improvisation, spawning memories or questions about who we are and how we live it out.

Do you believe art has a ‘universal language’? The ability to talk to everybody and especially to ‘make network’ with other artists and creatives?

I really think so, Art into the streets most of all. I love to provoke the viewers of my pieces with the mirror of the transforming human figure, between centrifugal and centripetal forces, in a dynamism often interrupted by abstract scenarios and multiform chaos. There’s a remarkable confrontation among street-artists, graffiti-artists and sector-fans (and not), the network happens when you’re into a specific context, in my case urban-art, post-graffitism is part of a long iter shared with writers before and with critics and curators nowadays.

For the future, can you unveil where we could seek out and ‘decode’ your works?

I’m busy in the production of a couple of walls for ‘Recover’ and a solo-show at Grauen Studio we’re going to inaugurate December the 13th in Monza (‘7 Fragments’), I’ve recently finished a tees making and I’m realizing a wallpainting and some experimental art silkscreens with Bergamo based Pigmenti d’Autore; a project of metal-painting for Rome’s MAAM museum and finally a show in Sweden in Summer 2015.

Ho fatto due domande anche a Pietro Rivasi, socio della galleria modenese D406 (www.d406.it) - Ciao Pietro, grazie della disponibilità, credi il ruolo della galleria d’arte sia cambiato oggi trattando di post-graffiti - e che mood si crea tra D406 e artisti?

I also interviewed Pietro Rivasi, associate in Modena gallery D406 (www.d406.it) - Hi Pietro, thanks for your time, do you think the art gallery role changed now - treating post-graffitism and which mood gets created between D406 and artists?

Grazie a voi per la possibilità di dire la mia... non mi definirei un esperto anche se organizzo mostre legate ad artisti che possiamo dire ‘post-graffitisti’ dal 2002, prima con Icone e poi con Avia Pervia; solo dal 2012 sono in una vera galleria e nei suoi meccanismi.

Ciò che ho notato è che il mercato stenta a crearsi, se non per i nomi stra-affermati. È però un momento storico in cui proliferano spazi gestiti da gente che non proviene dal background writing, che propone questo tipo di artisti e aumentano esponenzialmente i festival dedicati al ‘muralismo’ - ciò significa che c’è una forte aspettativa: che esploda una frenesia collezionistica e impenni le vendite anche dei nomi non ancora super affermati allora! Di mio, ho sempre cercato di invitare artisti dei quali capisco e conosco il percorso, quasi sempre con un forte background da writer, come Honet, Aris, Olivier Stak e Giorgio Bartocci: è la nicchia che conosco meglio e quindi che sono certo di poter proporre al pubblico, con la certezza di mostrare il massimo del significato dell’’esperienza writing’ per chi si cimenti con un’altra forma d’espressione.

Thank you for the chance to say my word... I wouldn’t define myself as an expert, even if I’ve been organizing art-shows tied to people we could say ‘post-graffiti’ artists since 2002, before with Icone and then with Avia Pervia; I’ve been in a real gallery with its nuts and bolts only since 2012. What I noticed is that the market is hardly developing, except for the over-popular names. But it’s a historic moment when spaces run by people not coming from a graffiti background proliferate, displaying this type of artists and so the festivals dedicated to ‘muralism’ are exponentially increasing - that means there’s a strong expectation; could it explode a collector mania shooting skywards the sales of the not yet super-popular names as well then! On my own I always tried to invite artists I know, whose iter I understand, very often with a strong graffiti-writer background, such as Honet, Aris, Olivier Stak and Giorgio Bartocci; that’s the niche I know better and so it’s also the one I’m sure I can offer the public, certain of highlighting the top meaning of the ‘writing experience’ for who’s dealing with another expression form.

Come sceglie i suoi ospiti la D406? E cosa t’ha convinto che anche il flow di Giorgio fosse ‘fedele alla linea’?

How does D406 choose its guests? And what persuaded you that also Giorgio’s flow was ‘faithful to the line’?

D406 è una galleria nata nel 2002, specializzata nel disegno, e rappresenta artisti come S.Ricci, G.Toccafondo, N.Toffolini, L.Mattotti per citarne alcuni. Dal 2008 si occupa anche di urban-artist, in particolare Ericailcane e Dem. Tutto il suo percorso è di base frutto della passione e ricerca di Andrea Losavio, tuttora ‘socio maggioritario’ della galleria. Io ci sono dal 2012 e cerco di ‘portare dentro’ alcuni degli artisti che ritengo più interessanti. La prima mostra interamente curata da me sarà quella dedicata a 2501 e Francesco Igory Deiana (la inauguriamo a novembre); le altre, come ‘Disegni ed installazioni’ - cui hanno partecipato Giorgio, Aris, Ozmo, James Kalinda e non solo - si concretizzano via via dai contributi di tutti i soci della galleria... Conosco Giorgio da più di 10 anni e ne ho sempre apprezzato originalità e costanza; le sue opere m’hanno convinto a chiedergli di lavorare insieme, quando sono stato in grado di capire (o pensare di capire) il percorso attraverso cui dal binomio ‘lettere + spray’ è arrivato a quei figurativi e alle sue infinite tecniche. Ad oggi, lo trovo uno degli artisti più interessanti e genuini del panorama post-graffiti.

D406 is a gallery born in 2002, focused on drawing, and representing artists such as S.Ricci, G.Toccafondo, N.Toffolini, L.Mattotti to make a few names. Since 2008 it’s hosted urban-artists too, especially Ericailcane and Dem. Basically all its iter is fruit of the passion and research of Andrea Losavio, still ‘majority-partner’ of the gallery. I’ve been there since 2012 trying to ‘bring in’ some of those artists I see as most interesting. The first art-show I will entirely run by myself will be the one dedicated to 2501 and Francesco Igory Deiana (we’re launching it in November); the others, like ‘Disegni ed installazioni’ (viz ‘Designs and installations’) which Giorgio, Aris, Ozmo, James Kalinda and many more were involved into - come from the contributions by each member of the gallery in turn... I’ve known Giorgio for over 10 years and I’ve always valued his originality and resolution; his artworks convinced me to ask him to work together, when I was able to understand (or to think to understand) the iter through which he arrived from the ‘letters + spray’ duo at those of all his figurative pieces and neverending techniques. To this day, I consider him one of the most engaging and genuine artists from the post-graffiti scene.

Quali sono le opportunità che la galleria mette in campo (rappresentando ogni artista) e quali soddisfazioni ottenete?

Which are the opportunities the gallery puts at stake (representing each artist) and which satisfactions do you get from that?

La galleria investe tempo e denaro negli artisti, in particolare quando non già affermati o addirittura storicizzati: ne progetta, allestisce e promuove le mostre, li porta alle fiere, mette a disposizione il proprio ‘portafoglio’ di collezionisti e li inserisce in un gruppo che è già parte della scuderia... Il lavoro che faccio con Giorgio è principalmente di ‘pr’; se mi chiedono artisti per progetti specifici che ritengo adatti a lui, lo propongo. L’anno scorso abbiamo collaborato ad hoc con realtà d’eccellenza come Postrivoro di Faenza (un team enogastronomico ad altissimi livelli), i Giardini di Mirò (gruppo per cui ha realizzato la cover del nuovo LP, ora selezionata per i Best Italian Vinyl Awards 2014) e Riesa Efau (un’associazione di Dresda che organizza eventi culturali).

The gallery invests time and money into artists, especially when they’re not well-known yet or even storied; it plans, sets up and promotes their shows, it brings them to fairs, makes its own collectors ‘portfolio’ available and puts artists in a group already part of the crew... The work I do with Giorgio is mostly a ‘pr’ one; if they ask me for an artist for a specific project I see is fitting his mood, I suggest him. Last year we collaborated ad hoc with sterling realities such as Postrivoro from Faenza (a topflight enogastronomy team), Giardini di Mirò (group for which he realized the new LP cover, now nominated for the 2014 Best Italian Vinyl Awards) and Riesa Efau (a Dresden based association organising cultural events).

Ciao Alessandro, puoi presentarti ai lettori di Crackers (background prima di fondare KD2024)?

In passato ho amato molto lo snowboard e il surf, mentre la mia passione infinita è sicuramente viaggiare… scoprire tutto ciò che è diverso in giro per il mondo. Adoro l’Asia in particolare, e proprio il surf mi ha portato a Bali alla fine degli anni ‘90; poi i miei interessi si sono spostati verso i rave-party, la scena psy-trance, e mi si è aperto un nuovo playground… la goa ha dato vita a un nuovo me stesso! In quest’ultimo periodo l’ispirazione per le mie realizzazioni si è spostata verso il Sud America e il Messico, un’altra dimensione da cui attingere forza e nuove geometrie!

Da dove proviene il nome KD2024?

Questo nome proviene da un mix di significati… KD sono io, “Kristal Dude - from the pure crystal of LSD”, ma 2024 è anche l’anno in cui prende vita il progetto Akira, nell’omonimo film di animazione datato 1988… Akira è anche il nome del mio bimbo adorato! …2019, qualcosa sta per cambiare… scenario post-atomico: come vedi il futuro del tuo brand?

In realtà non saprei, io seguo molto il flow… da uno stile molto wild con frange e deconstructed leather mi sto spostando verso un concept più futurista fatto di linee geometriche, poche applicazioni in metallo e tagli ultra fashion (tipo un Rick Owens oversize). Qualunque cosa accada la mia collezione rimane una linea di accessori e pezzi cross-over, orientati alla scena custom… mi piace lo splendore dell’argento che rompe la pelle!

Cos’hanno in comune psichedelia, viaggi e moda?

Bella domanda; ti rispondo tutto e niente, dipende da come inquadri i tre elementi… senza dubbio la psichedelia è la mia vera dimensione, vedere le cose nel dettaglio, perdersi in esso per poi tornare a considerare una visione globale. Bisogna accettare l’esistenza di momenti di climax difficilmente spiegabili e fasi di down, è la teoria olografica o multidimensionale… no space or time.

In uno scenario apocalittico, potresti descrivere i tuoi total look e i fit?

Credo che tale scenario sia un sogno per molte persone, un reset di tutti i ruoli, poteri, informazione, e perché no anche di stile! Cult book, anime e film ne hanno dato diverse anticipazioni, io mi ci riconnetto da una prospettiva fashion. È un’ipotesi molto affascinante, ‘grunge warriors and wasted lands’, con un tocco punk!

Dove sviluppi le idee per realizzare le nuove collezioni?

Le idee nascono all’improvviso… quando viaggio e mi guardo attorno, sulla mia moto mentre ascolto musica trance; qualche trip qua e là, un po’ di brainstorming con la mia bella compagna e ‘we are ready to fire’!

Gioielli aggressivi che sfiorano simbolismi voodoo ed etnici… qual è il filo conduttore di tutto ciò?

A dire il vero nulla di voodoo né tantomeno etnico; aggressivo sì perché abbiamo bisogno di un’identità nostra! La struttura dell’argento è piuttosto spessa, io lavoro con il modello a cera persa e ho quindi bisogno di tridimensionalità per scolpire i dettagli. I tagli della pelle e il gusto certamente dark nell’insieme, ‘edgy fashion’, un accessorio da rock star ma anche per un intenditore! Non per tutti, ma questa è la nostra idea, chi non vuole essere globale sceglie KD2024!

Come mai gli elementi naturali hanno una forte presenza nelle tue collezioni?

Il mio interesse per la natura affonda le radici nei dettagli delle strutture che formano i pattern degli oggetti o degli animali che realizzo; amo l’era giurassica, i fossili e tutto ciò che in qualche modo possiede una geometria o una texture, o comunque che possa essere ‘condensato’ in un design di pelle o argento. Per quanto mi riguarda il massimo dell’equilibrio viene raggiunto quando utilizzo quattro elementi: la pelle, l’argento, l’oro e il corno di bufalo… tutto chiaramente handmade.

Quando parli di ‘Wild Jungle’ a cosa ti riferisci… puoi descriverci la tua visione?

‘Wild Jungle’ è una visione legata a un’espressione della natura a me molto cara; le esperienze più forti e intense le ho vissute in luoghi dove la giungla regnava sovrana, come in Cambogia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Messico, Filippine… girare in moto in totale libertà per mesi, attraverso fiumi, strade assurde, polverone - tutto ciò mi ha segnato e formato profondamente. Con le mie realizzazioni cerco di ricreare questa visione ‘state of art’ nella pelle, negli anelli, nei miei accessori, sviluppando al massimo i dettagli… ricreare un’aura psichedelica incastonata in un design luxury.

Hi Alessandro, could you introduce yourself to Crackers readers (your background before establishing KD2024)?

In the past I loved snowboard and surf a lot, while travelling is definetely my neverending passion... discovering everything different all around the world. I adore Asia especially, and surf indeed led me to Bali at the end of ‘90s; then my interests moved toward rave-parties, the psy-trance scene, and a new playground opened for me... goa gave life to a new myself! In this latest period the inspiration for my pieces approached South America and Mexico, another dimension where to draw force and new geometries from!

Where does the name KD2024 come from?

That name comes from a mix of meanings... KD is me, “Kristal Dude - from the pure crystal of LSD”, while 2024 is also the year when the Akira project was started off, in the homonymous anime movie from 1988... Akira is the name of my beloved son too! …2019, something’s about to change… post-atomic scenario; how do you see the future of your brand?

I wouldn’t know actually, I follow the flow a lot... from a very wild style with fringes and deconstructed leather I’m moving toward a more futuristic concept made of geometrical lines, a few metal applications and ultra fashion cuts (like an oversize Rick Owens).

Whatever comes, my collection remains an accessories and cross-over pieces line, custom scene oriented... I like the sparkling of the silver breaking the skin!

What do psychedelia, travels and fashion have in common?

Nice question, I’d answer everything and nothing, it depends on how you set the three elements... no doubt psychedelia is my true dimension, to see things in detail, to lose yourself in that and then come back and consider a global vision. You have to accept the existence of climax moments hard to explain and down phases, it’s the holographic or multidimensional theory… no space or time.

In an apocalyptic scenario, could you describe your total looks and fittings?

Where do you develop the ideas to create new lines?

Ideas arise suddenly... when I’m travelling and looking around, on my motorbike while I’m listening to trance music; a few journeys hither and yon, a bit of brainstorming with my pretty partner and ‘we are ready to fire’!

Aggressive jewels brushing voodoo and ethnic symbolisms... what’s the leading thread of all that?

Actually nothing voodoo nor ethnic; aggressive of course because we need our own identity! Silver’s structure is quite thick, I work with the lost-wax model and so I need tridimensionality to chisel particulars. The leather cuts and the certainly dark attitude as a whole, ‘edgy fashion’, an accessory as much for rock stars as for connoisseurs too! Not for everyone, but that’s our concept, anyone who doesn’t want to be global chooses KD2024!

Why do natural elements have a strong presence in your collections?

My interest for nature sinks its roots in the details of the structures creating the patterns of the objects or animals I realize; I love the jurassic era, fossils and everything that somehow shows a geometry or a texture, or at least something that can be ‘distilled’ in a leather or silver design.

As far as I’m concerned the maximum equilibrium is achieved when I use four elements; leather, silver, gold and buffalo horn... all clearly handmade.

What do you refer to when speaking about ‘Wild Jungle’… can you tell us your vision?

‘Wild Jungle’ is a vision tied to an expression of nature well-beloved to me; I lived my strongest experiences in places where the jungle reigns supreme, such as in Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Mexico, Philippines... riding my motorbike in total freedom for months, through rivers, absurd streets, dust clouds - all that scarred and built me deeply. With my productions I try to recreate this ‘state of art’ vision into the leather, into the rings, into my accessories, developing details at full blast... to recreate a psychedelic aura nestled into a luxury design.

I think that scenario would be a dream for many people, a reset of all roles, powers, information, and why not even style! Cult books, animes and movies have given several foretastes of that, I’m reconnecting there from a fashion perspective. It’s a very charming hypothesis, ‘grunge warriors and wasted lands’, with a punk hint!

Private White V.C. teamed up with Alexander Leathers to produce - in limited series - the ‘Cafe Racer Jacket’ (redesigned upon a 60’s biker style) and the ‘C-3 Shearling Waistcoat’ (a vest, in leather and inspired to the two-wheel world in turn), created respecting vintage manufacturing modus operandi.

La forte passione per il vintage americano è stata il motore trainante del progetto Bakuto893, nato nel 2007 da Gianfilippo Pietraforte e Andrea Troiani, due ragazzi romani. Il ‘punto di grigio melange’, tipico degli anni ‘50, è il risultato di una minuziosa ricerca nel settore tessile e costituisce un elemento identificativo del marchio; la prima collezione che sancisce l’entrata di Bakuto893 sul mercato - ispirata all’abbigliamento sportivo compreso fra gli anni ‘50 e gli ‘80 - è l’’Athletic Vintage Grey’. T-shirt e felpe con filati indaco o melange, camicie, blazer e accessori realizzati con tele chambray cimosate, ma anche tessuti da lavoro, tecniche sartoriali e lavaggi particolari che identificano lo stile heritage e basic di questi capi. La collezione FW-2014 si arricchisce di una blazer in canvas indaco con interno in flanella di lana a righe, camicie stile worker in gabardina rigata e in twill di cotone stone wash, felpa bomber melange nero con tasche a toppa e infine camicia stile Japan di chambray blu cimosato.

The strong passion for American vintage was the prime mover for Bakuto893 project, born in 2007 thanks to Gianfilippo Pietraforte and Andrea Troiani, two Rome based guys. The ‘grey melange stitch’, typical of the ‘50s, is the result of an accurate research in the textile field and represents one of the distinctive features of the brand; the very first collection setting forth the entry of Bakuto893 in the market - inspired by sportswear included between the ‘50s and the ‘80s - is the ‘Athletic Vintage Grey’. T-shirts and sweaters with indigo or melange yarns, shirts, blazers and accessories realized with selvedge chambray canvas, but also workwear fabrics, sartorial techniques and particular washings identifying the heritage and basic style of those garments.
