Dr. Myeongae Kang D.A.O.M., L.Ac. Originally from Tokyo. Dr. Kang came to America during her high school years. After graduating from Arizona State University, she started working as a flight attendant. That’s when she suddenly became ill and came across Eastern medicines, which healed her completely. Since she was so impressed with the power of Eastern medicine, she decided to study it and got an acupuncture license in Japan. After returning to the U.S., she got another acupuncture license and earned a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Yosan University which is known for their acupuncture program. She has opened the first clinic in July 2007 and just opend her second location in Pasadena this Fall.

海外で夢に向かって頑張る女性を応援するJPyが、毎号LAで活躍する素敵 な先輩にインタビュー。今号はパサデナで女性の悩みを解決する東洋医学 クリニックKang Eastern Medicineのオーナー婦人科医師Kang先生にイン タビュー。東洋医学との出会いや将来の目標についてお話を聞きました。
カン・ミョンエ先生 東京都出身。高校生の時に米国留学し、アリゾナ州立大を卒業後にフライトアテンダントとし て就職するも、原因不明の体調不良に悩まされる。その際東洋医学の力で治癒した体験か ら、Oriental Medicineを学び、 日本で鍼治療のライセンスを取得する。その後天津医科大学にて 脳梗塞による顔面麻痺の鍼治療を行ったことをヒントに美容鍼を開発。米国に戻り鍼治療のライ センスを取り、鍼治療で知られるYosan大学にてDoctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine 取得。2011年７月に最初のクリニックを開院し、2014年9月に二つ目のロケーションをオープン。
アメリカで開院された経緯を教えて下さい。 東京で生まれ育ち、女子校に通っていましたが、当時いわゆ る“女子校カルチャー”に、馴染めない気持ちがありました。そ んな時母に「アメリカに行ってみたい」 と相談すると、 「トライし てみたら？」 と、親戚のいるカリフォルニアに留学させてくれま した。そのまま米国で大学に進学し、 ビジネスメジャーで卒業 後、 フライトアテンダントの仕事に就きました。 しかし仕事で体 調を崩し、色々な病院を訪ねても原因が分かりませんでした。 体調不良の理由も分からず、治療も効かず途方にくれていた 時、期待もせず試してみた鍼と漢方ですっかり改善。それが東 洋医学との出会いになりました。 これを機に自身で経験した鍼 治療の素晴らしさを学ぶため、東洋医学の大学に入り直し、日 本で鍼治療のライセンスを取得。米国に戻ってからは鍼治療 で知られるYosan大学でも学びました。病気になって病院に行 くと、たくさんの薬が処方されますが、時にその副作用で皮膚 病になったり食欲不振になったりすることがあります。 しかし私 は鍼と漢方が体に合い、副作用もなく病気も治り、 さらには精 神的にも肉体的にもバランスが良くなりました。西洋医学では お腹が痛い時、その痛みに効く薬が処方されるのが通常です が、東洋医学では何故お腹が痛いのかという観点で体全体を 治していくという考え方をします。 「体のバランスを整えること で出ている症状を改善する」 という東洋医学に魅力を感じ、 こ

1. Roast the walnuts in a frying pan. 2. Combine all the ingredients of (A) in a bowl and stir. 3. In a different bowl, put in all the ingredients of (B). Stir well, and then stir into bowl (A). 4. Stir in the roasted walnuts, and then pour in 80% of the batter. 5. Place it in a steamer, and steam for 20~25 minutes. *For conventional ovens, bake for 30 minutes at 355° F

1. Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Add the butter, and mix well with your fingers. 2. Quickly mix up the sugar and salt. Add the berries and rice drink. Mix together in a chopping motion. 3. Put ②’s batter on a board covered with flour, and flatten out the dough to 1 inch in thickness. 4. Split ③’s dough in half, place them on top of one another, and flatten out to 1 inch in thickness again. Repeat this again. 5. Flatten the dough to 0.8 inch in thickness, and use a cookie cutter to cut out the scones. 6. Line the scones onto the cookie sheet, leaving enough space around each one of them. Glaze them with rice drink and sprinkle with granulated sugar. 7. Bake at 410° F for 10 minutes.

Bacteria is the Cause of Cavities!? 虫歯の原因はバクテリア!? Cavities are caused by the bacteria. There are countless bacteria inside of our mouths. A beautiful woman or a handsome man, it doesn’t matter, everybody has them. Bacteria breed using sugar that comes inside of the mouth as their bait. And at that time, acid gets issued as the waste. When sweet food enters the mouth, inside of the mouth gets more and more acidic and the acidity reaches its peak in 20 minutes. When the acid attaches to the surface of the tooth, it begins to melt that area.
