What is your favorite taste in fashion? Do you have a favorite fashion brand or store?

DJing is very valuable to me because DJing gives me opportunities to meet a lot of people and to travel overseas. Last year, I was invited to play at Milan Fashion Week.

東京都出身。ロサンゼルスでカレッジを卒業後、OPT期間中にファッションブランド「United Couture」を立ち上げる。ゼロから自身のブランドを作る経験を通して多くのことを学び、昨年同ブランドを卒業。新ブランド「Spoildy」を立ち上げ、デザイナー兼ディレクターを勤める。ファッションの世界だけでなく、音楽の分野でも、世界各地を飛び回る人気DJとして活躍中。

[Directions] 1. Combine coconut oil and maple syrup in a bowl. Mix well. (Photo ② ) 2. Mix 1 and (A) well (Photo ③） 3. Put the wax paper on a baking sheet. Pour over 2 and spread it to about 1cm thickness. (Photo ④） 4. Heat the oven to 300F and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes. Once it gets brown, take it out of the oven and let it cool. [Ingredients] (2 cakes) Coconutoil：100g ※Liquid type Maple syrup：80g Two eggs Cake flour (Hakurikiko) ：120g Baking powder: 2 Tablespoons Candied pineapple (thinly sliced): 3 slices Yogurt: 1 Tablespoon (15ml) [Directions] 1. Oil the baking dish with coconut oil. 2. Combine flour and baking powder in a bowl, mix well with a mixer. 3. In a separate bowl, combine coconut oil and maple syrup and stir with a mixer. 4. Add eggs and yogurt in 3 and mix well till it gets a bit heavy. 5. Add 2, and mix in a cutting motion with a rubber spatula. Mix in thinly sliced pineapples. 6. Pour the batter in the cake pan and bake it in the oven for 20 minutes at 340°F. Using a wet knife, cut a slit in the middle of the cake and bake for additional 10 minutes.

[Ingredients] (Makes one 15cm x 20cm vat) Water：100ml Agar powder：2g Sugar：25g Milk：200ml Almond powder：1 Tablespoon (15ml) Candied pineapple：5 slices [Directions] 1. Heat water, agar powder and sugar in a pot. Once all the agar powder melts, and become translucent, take it off the heat. 2. Put almond powder in a bowl, add milk little by little and mix well. Combine with 1 and heat it with low heat till it gets warm. Take it off the heat and let it cool down. 3. Place pineapple slices on a vat and pour the mixture over. Let it cool in the refrigerator. 4. Cut them in squares so as to surround the pineapple slices.

［材料］（15cm x 20cmのバット1台分）水：100ml 粉寒天：2g 砂糖：25g 牛乳：200ml 杏仁霜：大さじ1（15ml）パイナップルの甘煮：5枚［作り方］ 1. 鍋に水、粉寒天、砂糖を入れて火にかける。寒天がとけるまでよく煮溶かす。透明になったら火を止める。 2. ボウルに杏仁霜を入れ、牛乳を少しずつ加えよく混ぜ合わせる。1に加え、弱火で温めたら火を止める。粗熱を取る。 3. パイナップルを並べたバットに2を流し入れて、冷蔵庫で冷やし固める。 4. パイナップルを囲むようにして、正方形に切る。

My family and I enjoyed this summer traveling and doing other fun activities. But I must say, the most memorable moment our family shared this summer was when our daughter learned how to swim. The sparkles in children’s eyes when they successfully accomplished something they couldn’t do before is something really special. Our company was named Sparkling Eyes in order to remember this special moment in life. I feel like my daughter reminded me of what inspired me to start a business in the first place. Life is finite. No matter how many tries it takes, as an individual and a company, I will continue to believe the possibility and keep trying in life.

旅行やイベントなど盛りだくさんの夏休みでしたが、うちの家族にとってこの夏一番大きな出来事は娘が泳げるようになったことだったかもしれません。できなかったことができるようになった時に子供が見せる目の輝きは本当に素晴らしいものです。弊社の社名（Sparkling Eyes）はまさに、その輝きを忘れないようにしようというところから来ていますが、改めて娘に教えてもらえた気がします。人生は有限。たとえ失敗したとしても、「できる」を信じてトライを忘れない人間、また会社でありたいと思います。

Nichibu performer Naomichi Hanazono attracts many fans with his new kind of entertainment – combining classical Japanese dance performance called Nihonbuyo and contemporary dance. His solo live performance is going to be held at Aratani Theater on October 24th. This is going to be your second solo performance. What’s on your mind?

― 単独では２回目となる公演を前に今のお気持ちは？

Although this is going to be my second solo performance, I’ve previously performed a few times in America. Other than Los Angeles, I performed in Las Vegas last year. Before the very first time I performed, I was unsure whether my kind of entertainment would be accepted by American people. However, after the performances I did in the last few years, I had a feeling that people really enjoy it. So this time, I hired more performers and I’m extremely excited for the performance. Also, from my performance in LA, I’m approved by J-LOP, which is a project run by the Japanese Ministry of Economy. So now, I feel like I’m really representing Japan in overseas.

Since traditional classical Japanese dance is the base of my performance, it does have some “Japanese elements” to it. We especially emphasize more on that aspect in shows in America. Even if you don’t know the language, people of all ages can enjoy my performance through the music and dance. For example, I’m going to perform a collaboration song with Mike Penny, a Tsugaru Sahamisen performer. I will also try a Kabuki play. I named the upcoming performance “HANABI” (fireworks), because exactly what it says, there will be fireworks of performance, songs and dance. It’s going to be a great show, please come check it out.

My performance is a combination of classical Japanese dance I’ve been learning since I was a child and contemporary dance. It’s a completely new genre of performance. I call myself “邪派新姿 (Japanese)**”, a fusion of something old and new. Sometimes, people describe me as a male version of Takarazuka (Japanese all-female musical theater troupe), but my stage characters are not a male nor a female. I’m kind of like a monster without any gender.

What should audience expect to see on stage?

いる坂東流の古典舞踊をベースに、現代の音楽やダンスを組み合わせた全く新しい種類のものです。古いものと新の姿であり、「男宝塚」と表現されることもありますが、男でもなく女でもなく、性別にもジャンルにもとらわれないモンスターのような存在かもしれません（笑）。

単独では２回目ですが、一昨年の米国版紅白歌の祭典、ます。最初の公演前は自分のパフォーマンスが現地の方に受け入れられるものなのかという不安もありましたが、一昨年、昨年と舞台を経験するにつれてしっかりとした手応えを感じたので、今回はパフォーマーの人数も増やし、楽しみな気持ちがとても強いです。また今回のLA公演から、経済産業省が指揮するクールジャパン事業の一環であるJ-LOP＋（日本コンテンツの海外展開支援）に認可され、今まで以上に「日本を代表して海外に出ている」という実感が強まりました。

― 舞台の見所はどんなところでしょう？伝統的な古典舞踊が土台にあるので、作品そのものに“日本らしさ”があるのですが、アメリカでの公演ではその辺りをより強調した舞台作りになっています。言葉が通じなくても、音楽とパフォーマンスで大人から子供まで楽しめる内容で、例えばYoutubeでも人気のあるLA在住の津軽三味線奏者マイク・ペニーさんとそのお弟子さんとのコラボ曲を披露したり、歌舞伎の演目にも挑戦します。演奏、歌、そして踊りが「花火のごとく打ち上げられる」のをイメージし、舞台名
