Miwonderful created an original makeup performance, “Makeup Tour”—travelling the world with a pink, hand-made frame—and performs it on the street in Japan, Paris, New York, Taiwan, Myanmar, etc… with the theme of “making the whole world smile through makeup.” Her easy makeup techniques are getting a lot of attention after bringing a smile to over 10,000 people. Since February of 2016, she has worked on a project combining makeup and technology with Bascue, an interactive creative company.

How was your stay in LA?
He l lo LA! Usually “Makeup artist” refers to those who apply makeup to models and celebrities, but Miwonderful does this on the streets. She has been applying makeup to those that she meets on the streets to make them happy. Recently, she has been working on art shows around the world to collaborate makeup with music and videos with artists and performers.
It’s been 5 years since I started this job abroad. In the beginning, I travelled alone due to financial reasons, and recorded my works using a smartphone and webcam. However, starting this year, I’ve been working with Bascule. Partnering with ChihoP, we came to LA with a mission to start recording our activities with the use of the latest technologies. Essentially, I would like to perform at Venice Beach again, since I wasn’t satisfied with my performance there 4 years ago, and see how much progress I’ve made in my work. During this visit, I have also performed in cities like Santa Monica, Hollywood, and Las Vegas. It was awesome how we were able to dance and collaborate in Hollywood, which I couldn’t on my last visit. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LA!!

Please tell us your future activities and goals. What was your intention for what you do now? As I like making people smile through my makeup, I call myself a “MakeSmile” Artist. When I was back in my hometown Sapporo, it started with an one simple thought: “wouldn’t it be interesting to do such a thing at festivals and club events?”. When I started “Make-no-yatai (Makeup Booth)” project in front of cafes and stores, there were many people that would stop to ask me questions like, “what kind of cosmetic items to buy” and “how to apply makeup”. It was then I realized I could help those who need help with makeup. Also, since beauty can be expressed in many ways, I came to think I would go abroad to expand my horizons. There are many ways that beauty can be expressed, and I hope to spread it through makeup in the streets. Sometimes, it is hard to grab attention when just doing makeup, so I would sing or dance, and that caught attention, being released DVD in Japan, so I feel like unexpected events like that create who I am now.

In November, an event called “Makeup Restaurant” will be held in Tokyo. It is a new type of makeup lesson show, where there will be cosmetics that will be presented on plates. In addition to the makeup lessons, there will be music, dance, and theatre where you can enjoy the “full course of makeup”. My dream is to have this event all over the world since there are many places that I haven’t visited yet and more smiles yet to create on the streets of such places.

Please provide a message for JPy readers. I personally encounter difficulties regarding my individuality, but there are many in the world out there presenting themselves in different ways. I really like the ways where you can respect others’ individuality. If I didn’t go abroad, I don’t think that I would have come across this way of thinking, so I believe that challenging oneself with new things will bring new ideas and change the way you see the world!

「メイクアップアーティスト」 というと、 スタジオや舞台でタレ ントさんやモデルさんにメイクを施すお仕事を想像する方も 多いと思いますが、 ミワンダフルさんの舞台はストリート。街 で出会う“知らない人”をメイクで笑顔にするというアート活 動を続けています。近年は音楽や映像とメイクを組み合わせ たクリエイティビティ溢れるアートショーを展開し、様々なア ーティストやパフォーマとコラボして、世界にも飛び出すとっ てもパワフルなミワンダフルさんにインタビューしました。

At esNAIL Academy, an on campus nail station is provided so that students may serve the public; the 2-hour specialized class where they learn art and useful skills can be applied in the salon work. The school has a myriad of color gel and extensive skill so you can learn a broad spectrum of artistic styles, therefore, students gain conf idence and familiarity with salon work after graduating.
I have been studying at esNAIL Academy since it opened. We learn from basic skills to salon work; practice, especially among the students, and actually working on nails of customers is really fun. Furthermore, I am happy that I can learn the cute nail designs I see on social media. Working in America has been my dream since I was younger, so I want to work as a nail stylist at esNAIL when I graduate.

[Ingredients] (About 8 inch cake) Cream Cheese 3.5oz Sugar 1.2oz Eggs 1 Flour 0.5 oz Cream 3.4oz.fl. Lemon Juice 1 Tbsp Grated Lemon Skin Half a Fruit

Biscuits 2oz Quinoa 0.35oz Unsalted Butter 1oz Lemon Marmalade
[Directions] 1. (B) Break down the biscuits in a bowl, add the melted butter and mix well. After it’s mixed, set it in the baking tin to make the crust. Refrigerate. 2. Put ingredients (A) in a food processor until it’s well blended. Use a spatula to make sure the surface is smooth. 3. Pour into baking tin, preheat the oven at 340°F and bake for 45 minutes *Poke with a toothpick, if nothing comes with the pick it’s ready! 4. Lather the lemon marmalade on the surface, once it’s cooled, chill for another 3 hours in the refrigerator.
[Ingredients] (Ingredients for 5 pieces) Boiled Chestnuts 5 Sweet Bean Paste as needed Potato Starch as needed

Rice Flour 2oz Cane Sugar 2oz Water 4oz.fl.
[Directions] 1. Make a ball by covering the chestnuts with the sweet bean paste. 2. Combine ingredients from A in a bowl and create a slightly tougher cream. 3. Combine ingredients from B in a separate bowl, warm it up for about a minute and a half in a microwave. Mix and then again use the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove the bowl and mix with a spatula until smooth. 4. On a table with plenty of potato starch sprinkled, remove the gyūhi (mochi) and separate into 5 pieces. Roll flat in a circular shape. *Be careful the dough is hot at this time. 5. Place the cream you prepared at 2 in the center. 6. Place the chestnuts you prepared at 1 on the cream. Slowly gather the dough around and ball together. Sprinkle starch.

［材料］ （直径 10cm x 20cmの型） クリームチーズ 100g 砂糖 35g 卵 1個 小麦粉 15g 生クリーム 100ml レモンジュース 大さじ1（15ml） レモンの皮(すりおろしたもの) 半個分

ビスケット 60g キヌア 10g 無塩バター 30g レモンジャム、適量
［作り方］ 1. （B） の砕いたビスケットとキヌアをボウル に入れ、 バターを溶かして混ぜ入れる。 よく混 ぜたら、 型底に敷いて冷蔵庫で冷やし固める。 2. フードプロセッサーに （A） の材料を順に加 え、 滑らかになるまでよく混ぜる。 ※生地が均 一になるように、 ゴムベラなどで側面をはらう。 3. 型に流し入れ、 170℃に予熱したオーブン で45分ほど焼く。 ※竹串などで中央に穴をあ け、 生地がついてこなければOK！ 4. レモンジャムを表面に塗り、 全体的に粗熱 が取れたら冷蔵庫で3時間ほど冷やす。

［作り方］ 1. 甘栗をあんこで包み、 ボールを作る。 2. ボウルに （A） の材料をすべて入れ、 泡だて器を使って少し 硬めの豆乳クリームを作る。 3. 別のボウルに （B） の材料を入れてよく混ぜたら、 電子レン ジで1分30秒ほどあたためる。 その後、 レンジから取り出して さらによく混ぜたら、 もう一度電子レンジで30秒あたためる。 取り出したら、 ゴムベラを使いながらゆっくりと生地をひとま とめにする。 4. 片栗粉をはらった台に求肥を取り出し、 5等分する。 その 後、 円形のシート状にする。 ※この際、 求肥が熱いので気をつ けてください。 5. (２） の豆乳クリームを中央にのせる。 6. (１)の栗を生クリームの上に置き、 まわりの求肥を少しず つ寄せながら丸める。 最後に、 片栗粉をまぶす。
