33RD INTERNATIONAL BIKERS MEETING Once again, from 17th July, the bikers will be taking over the streets of the Algarve. This is the start of the 33rd International Motorbike Rally in Faro and the organisers are expecting several thousands of bikers to turn up A 6 hectare piece of land on the street to Ilha do Faro, near the airport, will serve as a meeting point, a party area and camping site. After more than 30 years, it is difficult to find words to describe this event. An event which occurs every year almost by itself and now has several generations participating in it. For the veterans, it’s a celebration of years gone by, for the younger ones a source of inspiration for future adventures in the magical world of motorcycling. To take part, there’s a fee of € 45 which covers the entire 3 days and includes camping on the campsite, 3 meals, free bus transportation to / from Faro, all the shows, a raffle for a new bike or a trip to Daytona and lots more. The evening music programme consists mainly of heavy metal bands and this year it will reach a climax with performances by Moonspell and Steve Harris, leader of Iron Maiden, with his solo programme British Lion. In addition, bands including Attick Demons, O Kalu, The Raven Age will all be there. Over the whole area, there are also all kinds of stalls which are geared not only to motorcycle riders. Traditionally, the rally ends with the bikers riding through the city of Faro on the Sunday morning. Internationally, the event is considered a “must” for every motorbike fan and it is not only the climate, the size and hospitality of the event which sets it apart from other European rallies, but also its impressive number of visitors. And, in particular, the “Moto Clube Faro” needs a special mention for the stylish way they handle such a large scale event. In addition to putting on this vast international gathering - probably the club’s best-known activity - the Moto Clube also organises other activities, especially in the sporting and social-cultural field, with the aim of being a driving force and an example of solidarity within the community.

Ab dem 17. Juli wird das Straßenbild der Algarve wieder durch heiße Öfen geprägt. Das 33. Internationale Motorradtreffen in Faro beginnt, zu dem der Veranstalter zigtausende Biker aus aller Welt erwartet Auch nach mehr als 30 Jahren hat dieses Großereignis nichts von seinem Reiz verloren; für echte Motorradfreunde aus inzwischen mehreren Generationen gilt das Treffen in Faro als wichtigste Veranstaltung des Jahres. Veteranen feiern ein Fest der Erinnerungen, die Jüngeren finden Inspiration und Abenteuer im sommerlichen Südportugal. Als Treffpunkt, Partymeile und Zeltplatz dient ein 6 Hektar großes Gelände an der Straße zur Ilha do Faro in der Nähe des Flughafens. Der Eintrittspreis von € 45 für die dreitägige Veranstaltung beinhaltet Camping auf dem Gelände, drei Mahlzeiten, freie Bustransfers von und nach Faro, Eintritt zu allen Shows, die Teilnahme an einer Verlosung (bei der man wahlweise einen neuen Hobel oder einer Reise nach Daytona gewinnen kann) und vieles mehr. Das abendliche Musikprogramm wird durch Auftritte bekannter Heavy Metal Bands geprägt - Konzerte von Moonspell und Steve Harris, dem Band-Leader von Iron Maiden, gelten in der Szene als absolute Höhepunkte. Ausserdem werden Attick Demons, O Kalu, The Raven Age u. a. erwartet. Auf dem Gelände befinden sich natürlich auch jede Menge Stände und Buden, nicht nur für Biker. Am Sonntagvormittag endet das Treffen traditionsgemäss mit einem riesigen Motorradkonvoi durch die Innenstadt von Faro. Das Event wird international als ein “Muss” für jeden Motoradfan betitelt und unterscheidet sich nicht nur durch das Klima und die portugiesische Gastfreundlichkeit von anderen europäischen Treffen, sondern auch durch seine beeindruckende Besucherzahlen. Dafür, dass selbst bei dieser Größenordnung alles reibungslos klappt, sorgt der “Moto Clube de Faro”, der als Ausrichter auf eine lange Erfahrung zurückblickt. Neben der Veranstaltung der alljährlichen internationalen “Konzentration” führt der Motorradclub von Faro noch viele andere, meist weniger bekannte Aktivitäten für die Gemeinschaft durch, insbesondere im sportlichen- und sozialkulturellen Bereich

In 2010, João Rocha (trumpet) and Vasco Ramalho (drums) decided to form a new trans-disciplinary music project. Portuguese music serves as a bridge to world music and through it a new kind of fado developed. The two were soon joined by Tiago Sequeira (piano) and later Pedro Frias (guitar), Bruno Vitor (bass) and José Alegre (Portuguese guitar) and, from then on, it was called “Gato Malvado” (evil cat). Inês Santos (vocals) came in to strengthen the group. This cat has 7 lives and 7 notes, and the “malvado” hints at a certain artistic irreverence which they show. Im Jahr 2010 beschlossen João Rocha (Trompete) und Vasco Ramalho (Schlagzeug), ein neues transdisziplinäres Musikprojekt zu gründen. Portugiesische Musik dient dabei als Brücke zur Weltmusik, wodurch sich eine neue Spielart des Fado entwickelte. Bald stießen Tiago Sequeira (Klavier) und später Pedro Frias (Gitarre), Bruno Vitor (Bass) und José Alegre (portugiesische Gitarre) zum Ensemble, das sich fortan “Gato Malvado” (böse Katze) nannte. Verstärkt wird die Gruppe durch Inês Santos (Gesang). Diese Katze hat die 7 Leben und 7 Noten, und „malvado” zeugt von ihrer gewissen künstlerischen Respektlosigkeit. DRAFT DAY In his latest movie role as Sonny the general manager, Kevin Costner is trying to lead an unsuccessful football team back to its former greatness with some cunning recruitment. He not only has to fight every season for the team’s reason to be, but also more and more for its very existence. Whether it’s the owner of the club or the protagonist’s mother in the film, no one makes him feel that they understand his job, only his assistant Ali (Jennifer Garner) provides him with any support and advice. On draft day, which takes place every year before the start of

the football season, most of the players are selected by the teams for the up-coming season, an event which, in the end, will also be decisive for Sonny’s personal and professional future. Draft Day was directed by Ivan Reitman who launched his career with the film Ghostbusters back in the 80s. Starring actor Kevin Costner also kept himself in shape in previous films about baseball (Field of Dreams, Bull Durham) or golf (Tin Cup). A VIAGEM PORTUGUESA Traute Schmaljohann was born in Germany and worked as a tea cher in the north of the country. From 1982 to 1985, she studied fine arts at the University of Lüneburg and later continued her studies in painting at the School of Fine Arts in Paris until 1988. The first time she travelled to Portugal was in 1986, the same year she settled in Paris. The works exhibited form a cycle which began in 1987 and was completed in 1993, inspired by her various stays in Portugal. Acrylic on copies of photos

taken in Portugal, the works combine the influence of the light, the southern atmosphere and personal experiences. In her paintings, you can rediscover nature, time after time. This interplay between light and shadow seem to be the source of Traute Schmaljoahann’s inspiration. In her Vestígios de Sol, there is something fascinating. You can immerse yourself in the work, start to dream and become aware of the infinite smallness of each individual cell and the infinite size of our solar system.

Von 1982 bis 1985 studierte sie bildende Kunst an der Universität Lüneburg und setzte ihre Studien in der Malerei später an der School of Fine Arts in Paris bis 1988 fort. Erstmals reiste sie 1986 nach Portugal, im gleichen Jahr siedelte sie nach Paris über. Die ausgestellten Werke bilden einen Zyklus, der im Jahr 1987 begann und im Jahr 1993 abschloss, inspiriert von ihren Aufenthalten in Portugal. 18

Acryl auf Kopien von Fotos, die in Portugal aufgenommen wurden, werden durch das Licht, die südliche Atmosphäre und persönliche Erfahrungen geprägt. In ihren Bildern kann man die Natur immer wieder neu entdecken. Der Tanz von Licht und Schatten scheint die Quelle der Inspiration von Traute Schmaljoahann zu sein. Ihre Vestígios de Sol haben etwas faszinierendes. Man taucht ein, träumt und wird sich der unendlichen Winzigkeit jeder einzelnen Lebenszelle und der unendlichen Größe unseres Sonnensystems bewusst.

González Bravo was born in 1944 in Badajoz in Spain but has lived in Portugal since 1970. Since 1981 he has been a regular and highly successful exhibitor in individual and group exhibitions not only in Portugal, but also in Germany and in France where he published an edition containing many of his works entitled “Euvres 1990 – 2000”. The artistic style of González Bravo reflects the great 20th Century movement of informalism art, a period of European art which mirrored that of American abstract expressionism. His works are noted for their progressive adoption of aesthetic abstractionism, with figurative elements melding with abstract expressionism and the spontaneous use of materials to create memorable pieces that challenge the viewer to reconsider their established preconceptions of abstract art. González Bravo wurde 1944 in Badajoz in Spanien geboren, jedoch lebt er seit 1970 in Portugal. Seit 1981 stellt er regelmäßig und sehr erfolgreich in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in Portugal aus, aber auch in Deutschland und in Frankreich, wo er eine Ausgabe mit vielen seiner Werke unter dem Titel „Euvres 1990 - 2000“ veröffentlicht hat. Der künst lerische Stil von González Bravo spiegelt die große Bewegung der Informalismus-Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts wieder, welche eine Periode der europäischen Kunst ist, die dem des amerikanischen abstrakten Expressionismus gleichkommt. Seine Werke sind durch ihre moderne Übernahme der ästhetischen Abstraktion geprägt, bei denen bildliche Elemente mit abstraktem Expressionismus verschmelzen und durch die spontane Verwendung von Materialien unvergessliche Stücke geschaffen werden, die den Betrachter herausfordern, etablierte Vorurteile über abstrakte Kunst zu überdenken. The exhibition was organised in close collaboration between the Council of Tavira, the 1st Infantry Regiment, the Association of the 25th of April and the family of Melo Antunes, represented by his brother Fernando Melo Antunes. It will be open until Aug. 31st 2014 and can be visited every day from 10.00 to 22.00. Ernesto Melo Antunes was one of the central figures of the Captains’’ Movement, which on April 25th 1974 overthrew the dictatorship and returned freedom and democracy to the Portuguese people. Born in Lisbon in 1933, Colonel Melo Antunes lived in Tavira for 7 years before joining the Military School. For him, Tavira was a town that he much loved and visited regularly and where he spent time with friends. He had a military career like his father, served three tours of duty in Africa, but was always linked to opposition to the regime. Die Organisation dieser Ausstellung erfolgte in enger Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Stadtverwaltung von Tavira, dem 1. Infanterie-Regiment, dem Verband des 25. Aprils und der Familie von Melo Antunes, vertreten durch seinen Bruder Fernando Melo Antunes. Die Ausstellung kann täglich von 10.00 bis 22.00 Uhr besucht werden. Ernesto Melo Antunes war eine der zentralen Figuren der Bewegung, die am 25. April 1974 die Diktatur stürzte und dem Portugiesischem Volk damit Freiheit und Demokratie zurückgab. Geboren wurde Antunes in Lissabon im Jahr 1933. Bevor er die Militärschule besuchte, lebte er 7 Jahre lang in Tavira - eine Stadt, die er sehr liebte, regelmäßig besuchte und in der er viel Zeit mit Freunden verbrachte. This year, at the 44th Youth Sailing World Championship, “ISAF”, in Tavira, 68 countries from five continents will be taking part. A total of 372 participants between the ages of 13 and 18 are expected, along with 130 coaches. This is the first time that so many countries will be taking part in the World Cup. Portugal not only holds this record, but is also the country in which the competition has been most often held up to now. This will already be the fifth time. The teams will be arriving on July 12th and the official opening of the championship will be held the next day at 7.30 pm in front of the City Hall. From July 14th, three races are to be held daily from 1 o’clock each day. The times may be subject to change, being dependent on the weather conditions. The sailors will be battling for victory in five different classes: 420 (M/F), Laser Radial (M/F) RS: X (M/F), 29er (mixed) and SL 16 (mixed). After the last regatta on July 18th, the award ceremony will be held from 6 o’clock in front of the Clube Náutico of Tavira.

Provided that the sky not completely shrouded by clouds, we can see that it is blue. However, at “sunrise” and in the late afternoon, when the sun is near the horizon, the sky is either orange or red. The chapel is one of the rare examples of medieval architecture, because it was one of the few buildings of this time that survived the catastrophic earthquake of 1755.
