Die Macher der Seite versuchen durch aktuelle Artikel der kooperierenden Therapeuten und Medizinern eine aktive Online-Gemeinschaft zu initiieren, um den Mega-Trend der Gesundheits- und Wellness-Wirtschaft in der Algarve weiter zu fördern. Magie der schönen Künste – Kunst hautnah erleben A Magia das Artes – „Magie der schönen Künste“ - so lautet das Motto des erstmalig am 14./15.Dezember stattfindenden Kreativ-Treffens in der Escola de Artes in Lagoa. Kunst erleben durch Farbe, Klang, Raum und Form. Zuschauen, zuhören, teilhaben. In den Ausstellungs- und Lehrräumen der Schule wird gemalt, gebastelt und ausgestellt, in der Olaria getöpfert und modelliert. Geplant sind unter anderem Akt-Zeichnen, wofür sich ein junger Mann und eine Fadista bereit erklärt haben, sowie Stilleben- und Fliesenmalerei. Man kann sich außerdem verkleiden, schminken und fotografieren lassen, und bei fast allen anderen Aktivitäten auch mitmachen. Im Atrium der Schule wird ein Atelier eingerichtet, wo Kinder und Erwachsene eingeladen sind, sich an der Gestaltung einer lebensgroßen Bärenskulptur, gestiftet von Karl-Heinz Stock, Quinta dos Vales, Estombar, aktiv kreativ zu beteiligen. Das Atelier wird abwechselnd von Kunstpädagogen der Escola de

Für Animation mit Musik und Gesang, bei Weihnachtsgebäck mit Plätzchen-Spenden und Erfrischungen, sorgen diverse Chorgruppen, u.a. der Ideas de Levante Chor, die Fadosängerin Ondina Santos oder der Seniorenchor Aldeia das Sobreiras, Portimão. Das Atrium wird von einem Zelt geschützt, Sitzgruppen sind vorhanden. Ein kleiner Bazar, bestückt mit traditionellen und phantasievollen Mitbringsel-Kunstwerken rund um Weihnachten, aber nicht nur, hält unikate Geschenkideen bereit. Magic of fine arts – experiencing art up close A Magia das Artes – The magic of fine arts, is the motto of a creative meeting held in Lagoa’s Escola de Artes on December 14/15 for the very first time. Experiencing art through colour, sound, space and form. Watching, listening, participating. The exhibition and lecture rooms of the school will host painting, crafting and exhibitions, while there will be pottery and modelling in the Olaria. Plans include nude drawing, for which a young man and a Fado singer are volunteering, as well as still-life and tile painting. Participants can also dress up, make-up and have their photograph taken, and also take part in almost all the other activities. A studio will be set up in the school’s atrium, where children and adults

are invited to take an active part in the creation of a life-size bear sculpture, donated by Karl-Heinz Stock, Quinta dos Vales, Estombar. The studio will be headed alternately by art teachers from the Escola de Arte, Lagoa. Various choir groups, including the Ideas de Levante Choir, fado singer Ondina Santos and the Aldeia das Sobreiras senior choir, from Portimão provide entertainment with music and song, accompanied by Christmas cookies with cookie donations and refreshments. The atrium is protected by a tent and offers plenty of seating space. A small bazaar offers unique gift ideas as well as traditional and imaginative gift-art pieces for Christmas. Diese von der amerikanischen Therapeutin Mary Nelson entwickelte Massage-Technik basiert auf der Wechselwirkung erhitzter Basaltkiesel und gekühlten Marmorsteinen, die entlang der Wirbelsäule gelegt werden, nachdem der ganze Körper vorher mit einem angenehm riechenden Duftöl eingerieben wurde. In kreisenden Bewegungen massiert der Therapeut mit den Steinen sanft den Rücken. Die Kombination aus aromatischen Ölen und über den Körper gleitenden Steinen lösen Verspannungen und schmerzhafte Verhärtungen. Ein sogenannter piezoelektrischer Effekt regt die Gefäßtätigkeit und das gesamte HerzKreislauf-System an. Wichtig: Nach der Massage sollte man dem Körper mindestens eine Stunde Ruhe gönnen, dann fühlt man sich richtig tipptopp. Developed by American therapist Mary Nelson this massage technique is based on the interaction of heated basalt pebbles and cooled marble stones, which are placed along the spine, after the whole body has been rubbed with fragrant oil. The therapist gently massages the back with the stones in a circular motion. The combination of aromatic oils and the stones moving over the body releases tension and painful muscle contractions. A so-called piezoelectric effect stimulates vascular activity and the entire cardiovascular system. Important: After the massage, you should give your body at least one hour rest, after which you’ll feel fantastic.

as kann es Schöneres geben, als an einem sonnigen Tag im Schatten uralter Olivenbäume zu sitzen, den Blick über grüne Hügel und das Azurblau des Atlantiks schweifen zu lassen und den eigenen Gaumen mit einem vorzüglichen portugiesischen Rotwein zu erquicken? Nun, die Steigerung wäre, wenn der gerade getrunkene Wein aus der eigenen Produktion stammen würde. Und genau das war der Gedanke, der sich bei dem Physiker und ExIndustriemanager Helwig C. Ehlers manifestierte, als er 1998 auf seinem gerade gekauften 6 Hektar großen Grundstück bei Santa Barbara de Nexe verweilte. Das Terroir aus kalkhaltigem Verwitterungsgestein erschien dem Hamburger ideal, und so begann er mit Unterstützung der renommierten Önologin Dorina Lindemann amerikanische Wildreben anzupflanzen auf die dann Edelreiser der Sorten Aragonez, Castelão, Syrah, Touriga-Nacional und Fernão Pires aufgepfropft wurden. Was 1999 als Hobby begann, hat sich mittlerweile zu einem prosperierenden Familienunternehmen entwickelt. Von Anfang an war der Neu-Winzer darauf bedacht, seinen Wein so schonend wie möglich zu produzieren und zu lagern. Seine Weine sollen möglichst säurearm und vollmundig sein. Dafür setzt er modernste Technologie ein und verwendet für Mazeration, Weinpressung, Filtration, Kühlung und Lagerung ausschließlich Geräte des Branchen-Primus Bucher Vaslin. Für die Qualität der Reben sorgen nicht nur gezielte Ausdünnung der Pflanzen, Bodendüngung und Tröpfchenbewässerung, sondern auch das Know-how des Breisacher Önologen Carsten Heinemeyer, der das Weingut regelmäßig konsultiert und Helwig Ehlers schon so manches Geheimnis über die Weinherstellung verraten hat. Längst genießen die charaktervollen Weine mit den lustigen Helwigus-Labels einen ausgezeichneten Ruf. Der Rote, Jahrgang 2008, aus den Rebsorten Castelão und Aragonez, mit seinen Duftnoten nach Granatapfel, Weichselkirsche und Himbeere, kräftigen Aromen und Tanninen, ist bis auf einige Dutzend Magnumflaschen restlos ausverkauft. Potential haben auch der in Barrique-Fässern gereifte Rotwein 2009, eine Cuvée aus Syrah, Aragonez und Castelão, sowie der wunderbare Weißwein 2011 aus Arinto und Fernão Pires mit seinem frischen Duft von Limette, Grapefruit und Bergamotte, der perfekte Begleiter zu Fisch und Meeresfrüchten. Lagerfähig sind die HelwigusWeine etwa 7-9 Jahre. Was den Winzer ganz besonders freut, ist, dass inzwischen auch die Kontrollbehörden von seinen Weinen überzeugt sind und er demnächst in der Tavira D.O.C. hat could be better than sitting in the shade of ancient olive trees on a sunny day, letting your eyes wander over green hills and the azure blue of the Atlantic and refreshing your palate with an exquisite Portuguese red wine? Well, the icing on the cake would be that you had produced the wine yourself. And this was exactly the thought that entered the mind of physicist and former industry manager Helwig C. Ehlers during a stay on his newly acquired six acres of land in Santa Bárbara de Nexe in 1998. The terroir of weathered limestone appeared perfect to the wine lover from Hamburg, and so he began to plant American wild vines onto which he then grafted Aragonez, Castelão, Syrah, Touriga-Nacional, and Fernão Pires vine varieties with the support of renowned oenologist Dorina Lindemann. What started as a hobby in 1999, has meanwhile developed into a prosperous family business. From the very outset the novice winemaker has been intent on producing and storing his wine as gently as possible. His wines should be very low in acidity and full-bodied. For this he uses the latest technology and equipment from industry leader Bucher Vaslin for maceration, wine pressing, filtration, cooling and storage. Grape quality is not only ensured by selective thinning of plants, fertilising and drip irrigation, but also through the knowhow of oenologist Carsten Heinemeyer, who regularly visits the vineyard and has already revealed many a secret about wine production to Helwig Ehlers. The characterful wines with the amusing Helwigus labels have long enjoyed an excellent reputation. With its aromas of pomegranate, sour cherry and raspberry, its bold flavours and tannins, the vintage 2008 red, made with Castelão and Aragonez grape varieties, has completely sold out apart from a few dozen magnum bottles. The 2009 red wine, a blend of Syrah, Aragonez and Castelão, aged in barrels, and the wonderful 2011 white wine, made from Arinto and Fernão Pires grapes, with its fresh scent of lime, grapefruit and bergamot, and therefore the perfect companion to seafood, also show potential. The Helwigus wines can be stored for about 7-9 years. The winemaker is especially pleased with the fact that the supervisory authorities are now also convinced about his wines and that he will soon be accepted into the Tavira DOC (Denominação de Origem Controlada). ushi gehört zu Japan wie der Fujiyama, Mangas oder der Tenno, obwohl diese Spezialität ursprünglich aus China stammt. Manche bezeichnen die delikaten Häppchen, die in den 80er Jahren ihren Siegeszug rund um die Welt begannen, gerne auch als eine Art japanisches Fastfood, das man mittlerweile sogar bei Discountern in der Tiefkühltruhe findet. Doch Sushi ist mehr als gesäuerter Reis mit rohem Fisch. Davon überzeugt man sich am besten selbst in einem japanischen Restaurant wie dem Takô Sushi in Vilamoura, wo man, wie in Japan üblich, direkt an der Theke sitzen kann und vom Sushi-Meister persönlich bedient wird. Najarman Gurung ist zwar Nepalese aus Kathmandu, doch wenn er in seinen blütenweißen Gi (kimonoartiger Kittel) schlüpft und sich das Ausdauer und Engagement symbolisierende Hachimaki (Stirnband) umbindet, verwandelt er sich in einen traditionellen Sushi-Koch alter Schule, der sein handgeschmiedetes Yanagiba (Filetiermesser) so schnell und präzise einsetzt, wie ein Samurai sein Schwert. Und genauso scharf sind die aus Karbonstahl gefertigten Messer, die Meister Gurung vor jedem Gebrauch schärft und nach jedem Schnitt mit einem weichen Tuch abwischt. Sushi ist gesund, enthält viel Eiweiß, Eisen, Vitamine und Mineralien, naturgemäß wenig Kalorien und hat ein gewisses Suchtpotential, denn die kulinarischen Leckerbissen schmecken einfach nur gut. Besonders beliebt sind Makizushi, Reis, Fisch, Wasabi (grüner Meerrettich) und Sesam in Nori (getrocknete Algen) gerollte Sushi und Uramaki, die von innen gedrehten kalifornischen Rollen, bei denen der Reis außen und das Noriblatt innen sind. In Japan ist diese Sushi-Variante kaum bekannt. Ein absoluter Hingucker sind natürlich Nigirizushi, handgerollte Fischstreifen auf zwei Finger breiten Reisklumpen, dekoriert mit Schnittlauch, Dill, Rogen oder Kaviar. Man isst mit Stäbchen oder mit den Fingern, würzt mit Wasabi und Sojasoße und neutralisiert die Geschmacksnerven mit Gari, süßsauer eingelegtem Ingwer. Als Getränk empfehlen sich grüner Tee oder Bier.

Creme brûlée

(alle Angaben für 4 Personen)

Zutaten: ½ Vanilleschote, 90 g Zucker, 3 Eigelb, 420 ml Sahne, 1 Prise Salz Zubereitung: Die ausgeschabte Vanilleschote zusammen mit der Sahne in einem Topf auf etwa 80° erwärmen. Eigelb, Zucker und Salz in einer Schüssel vermischen. Die erhitzte Sahne unterrühren und über die Ei-Zucker-Masse gießen. In die Form mit dem ausgebackenen Mürbeteig füllen und im Backofen im Wasserbad bei 165° etwa 40 – 50 Minuten stocken lassen. Im Kühlschrank einige Stunden auskühlen lassen, in Quadrate schneiden, mit braunem Rohrzucker überstreuen und mit dem Bunsenbrenner karamellisieren bis der Zucker hellbraun ist. Sofort servieren!

Mürbeteig Zutaten: 125 g Zucker, 250 g Butter, 1 Prise Salz, 400 g Mehl, 1 Ei, Vanilleessenz, Abrieb einer Bio-Zitrone Zubereitung: Die zimmerwarme Butter mit Zucker und Gewürzen vermischen. Gesiebtes Mehl und Ei unterkneten. Den Teig 30 Minuten im Kühlschrank ruhen lassen, danach auf etwa 3 mm ausrollen und eine mit Alufolie ausgelegte Form geben. Im Backofen bei 180° goldgelb backen.

Orangenfilets mit Sauce Zutaten: 3 Orangen, geschält und in mundgerechte Stücke filetiert, Saft von 4 Orangen, 50 g Zucker, 1 EL Speisestärke, 1 EL Grand Manier Zubereitung: Den Orangensaft mit dem Zucker sirupartig einkochen. Falls erforderlich mit Speisestärke binden und mit Grand Manier abschmecken. Mit der Sauce die Orangenfilets marinieren.

Alfarroba-Törtchen Zutaten: 150 g Butter, 150 g Zucker, 4 Eier, 60 ml Milch, 80 g Alfarroba-Mehl, 40 g Mehl, 40 g Speisestärke, 1 TL Backpulver, Abrieb einer Bio-Orange Zubereitung: Die Eier trennen. Die zimmerwarme Butter mit dem Mixer gut aufschlagen. Nach und nach das Eigelb unterrühren, in einer separaten Schüssel das Eiweiß zu weichem Schnee schlagen. Mit dem Holzlöffel das Eiweiß vorsichtig unter die Eigelb-Buttermasse heben. Crème brûlée (all recipes for 4 people) Ingredients: ½ vanilla pod, 90 g sugar, 3 egg yolks, 420 ml cream, 1 pinch of salt Method: Scrape out the vanilla pod and heat with the cream in a saucepan until about 80°C. Mix the egg yolks, sugar and salt in a bowl. Stir the heated cream into the egg mixture and pour into the previously baked short crust pastry in its tin. Leave to solidify in a water bath in the oven at 165°C for about 40 - 50 minutes. Leave to cool in the fridge for several hours, cut into squares, sprinkle with brown sugar and flambé with a handheld burner until the sugar is caramelised light brown. Serve immediately!

Orange salad with sauce Ingredients: 3 oranges, peeled and cut into bite size chunks, juice of 4 oranges, 50 g sugar, 1 tbsp corn starch, 1 tbsp Grand Marnier Preparation: Boil the orange juice with the sugar until syrup like. If necessary bind with the corn flour and season to taste with Grand Marnier. Marinate the orange segments in the sauce.

Alfarroba Torte Ingredients: 150 g butter at room temperature, 150 g sugar, 4 eggs, 60 ml milk, 80 g Alfarroba flour, 40 g flour, 40 g corn flour, 1 tsp baking powder, peel of an organic orange Preparation: Separate the eggs. Beat the butter well with the mixer. Gradually stir in the egg yolks. In a separate bowl beat the egg whites and carefully fold into the yolk-butter mixture using a wooden spoon. Finally, stir in the mixed dry ingredients. Fill into a greased and floured tin and place in the oven. Cooking time: about 30 minutes at 180°C.

Die drei Neun-Loch-Layouts - Atlantic, Grouse und Guadiana – ergänzen sich zu einer faszinierenden 18-Loch-Erfahrung (derzeit werden auf dem Atlantic jedoch Arbeiten durchgeführt, daher kann eine Runde zur Zeit nur auf dem Grouse-Guadiana gespielt werden). Treffend benannt hat man beim ersten Abschlag des Par-36 Atlantic den Ozean fest im Blick, bevor dieser durch die Landschaft und von Pinien gesäumte Fairways Richtung Meer purzelt. Das Motto lautet hier Genauigkeit, gut platzierte Schläge sorgen für eine gerechte Belohnung. Das steile, kurze vierte Loch (120m, Par-3) mit seiner Aussicht auf die Guadiana-Brücke sorgt für eine bleibende Erinnerung an den Platz. Der Guadiana setzt sich in ähnlicher Weise fort und PlatzDesigner Terry Murray hat die örtlichen Konturen bei den ersten vier Löchern auf geniale Weise genutzt. Die aufsteigende Dogleg Spielbahn des vierten Lochs, mit ihrem versteckten, von Palmen gesäumten Grün, verlangt dem Spieler Einiges an Aufmerksamkeit ab. Wasser nimmt fortan eine immer größere Rolle ein, sorgfältig platzierte Teiche und Seen machen das Spiel interessanter. Achten Sie auf alle möglichen Arten von Wildtieren - weghuschende Rebhühner auf den Fairways sind hier kein seltener Anblick. Der Platz beginnt sich nun ein wenig zu öffnen, die bisher empfundene Beengung entspannt sich und die unbedingte Genauigkeit des Spiels ist nicht mehr ganz so zwingend notwendig. Hier deutet sich zudem bereits das letzte Layout des Platzes an. Als jüngste Ergänzung und spannende neue Facette des Castro Marim Golfe Clubs wurde im Jahre 2008 der Grouse eröffnet. Landeinwärts gerichtet, weit weg von Fluss und Meer, lässt der Grouse den Blick des Golfers in Richtung des weit entfernten Alentejo schweifen. Was hier an Bäumen und “traditionellen” Algarve Merkmalen fehlt, machen die großzügig angelegten Spielbahnen, die großen Wasserflächen und das Freiheitsgefühl beim Spiel vollkommen wett. Der 433-Meter lange Par-5 ist der perfekte Ausdruck all dessen und sein erhöhter Abschlag beschert dem Spieler einen der schönsten Momente auf dem Platz. Mit einem Drink in der Hand und einem Lächeln auf dem Gesicht gibt es die beste Aussicht jedoch zum Schluss – von der Terrasse des Clubhauses im Burgstil. Andrew Lang

n early arrival in the far east’s golf boom of the last decade or so, Castro Marim Golfe tempts the golfer with twists and turns, over hillocks and along gullies, through three nine-hole loops that ensure variety and game satisfaction. Castro Marim excels as a relaxed setting in which to enjoy the simple pleasures of golfing – the joys of views across to the River Guadiana, Spain and the glittering Atlantic, the camaraderie of good (and bad) shots, and the thrill of constantly changing challenges. The three nine-hole layouts – Atlantic, Grouse and Guadiana -, combine to produce a fascinating 18-hole experience (although the Atlantic layout is currently undergoing work, meaning a round will be played on GrouseGuadiana). Aptly named, the par-36 Atlantic course tees off with the ocean firmly in its sights, tumbling through the land-

scape, and through pine lined fairways. The watchword here is accuracy, with the right shot placement ensuring just rewards. The steep, short fourth (120m, par-3) with its views across to the bridge over the Guadiana provides a lasting memory for the course. The Guadiana continues in a similar vein, with course designer Terry Murray making ingenious use of the local contours in the first four holes. The uphill dogleg 4th, with its hidden palm-lined green, certainly keeps players on their toes. Water is beginning to play a more prominent role now, with carefully placed ponds and lakes adding interest. Watch out for all manner of wildlife here, with groups of partridges scurrying from the fairways a common sight. The course begins to open out a little, with the tightness experienced until now relaxing and player accuracy not so pressing. This provides a revealing introduction into the final layout of the club. The latest addition to Castro Marim Golfe, the Grouse Course was opened in 2008, adding an exciting new facet to the club. The Grouse faces inland, away from the river and sea, with golfers able to gaze off into the distant Alentejo. What it lacks in trees and ‘traditional’ Algarve features, it replaces with holes on a grand scale, large water features and a true sense of freedom as you play. The 433-metre par-5 reflects this to the full, with its elevated tee shot one of the finest moments on the course. The best view is reserved to the end however, from the terrace of the faux-castle clubhouse, with a drink in your hand and a smile on your face. Andrew Lang

Rocha da Pena Eine Wanderung durch eine raue, wildromantische Landschaft voller Gegensätze, zeitlose Dörfer und Überbleibsel aus der Jungsteinzeit A hike through a rough, wildly romantic landscape full of contrasts, timeless villages and relics from the Neolithic period

wischen Benafim und Salir erstreckt sich auf über 600 Hektar eines der interessantesten Naturschutzgebiete der Algarve – Rocha da Pena, der Berg des Kummers. Die wilde, nahezu unberührte Landschaft liegt im Übergangsgebiet zwischen Barrocal und Serra do Caldeirão. Fauna und Flora sind recht mannigfaltig, und die geologischen Formationen haben sich vor Jahrmillionen gebildet. Ausgangspunkt für die etwa zwei Stunden lange Wanderung ist die Kneipe im Weiler Pena. Der schotterige Weg unterhalb der rot-grauen Südflanke des Felsmassivs steigt steil an. Nach gut 30 Minuten erreicht man jenes zwei Kilometer lange Hochplateau, das schon im Neolithikum (Jungsteinzeit) besiedelt wurde. Die Aussicht von hier oben ist sensationell. Im Süden glitzert der Ozean, im Norden verlieren sich die rollenden Hügel der Serra irgendwo am weiten Horizont. Es duftet nach Rosmarin, wildem Dill, Wacholder und Myrthe. Die rotbraune Erde ist an vielen Stellen aufgewühlt, was für die Präsenz von Kaninchen und Wildschweinen spricht. Es soll hier zwar Uhus, Habichtsadler, Bienenfresser, Ginsterkatzen und Füchse geben, doch außer Schmetterlingen, Smaragdeidechsen, Wildtauben und Ameisen begegnet man auf einer Wanderung über das Planalto in der Regel keinen anderen Tierarten. Richtung Westen stößt man dann auf jenen 800 m langen neolithischen Steinwall, den die Vorfahren der Keltiberer im Zeitraum 6.000 bis 3.000 v. Chr. aufgeschüttet haben, um sich vor gegnerischen Angriffen zu schützen. Während der Reconquista, der Zurückeroberung durch die Christen, suchten versprengte maurische Einheiten hier Zuflucht vor den marodierenden Truppen von Paio Peres Correia, deshalb trägt dieser historische Ort den

tretching over 600 hectares between Benafim and Salir, Rocha da Pena is one of the most interesting nature reserves in the Algarve. The wild, almost untouched landscape is located in the transition area between the Barrocal and the hills of the Serra do Caldeirão. Its flora and fauna are very diverse and its geological formations were formed millions of years ago. The starting point for this hike lasting roughly two hours is the bar in the hamlet of Pena. The gravelled path below the red and grey southern flank of the rock massif rises steeply. After a good 30 minutes you reach the two-kilometrelong plateau, which was already inhabited in Neolithic times. The view from up here is sensational. The ocean glitters in the south while the Serra’s rolling hills lose themselves somewhere on the distant horizon to the north. The scent of rosemary, wild dill, juniper and myrtle lingers in the air. The red-brown earth is churned up in many places, indicating the presence of rabbits and wild boars. Allegedly there are owls, Bonelli’s Eagles,

bee-eaters, genets and foxes up here, but usually you meet little more than butterflies, green lizards, wild pigeons and ants on a hike over the planalto. To the west you then reach the 800-metre Neolithic stone wall, built by ancestors of the Celtic Iberians in the period between 6000 and 3000 BC to protect themselves from enemy attacks. During the Reconquista, the Christians re-conquest, scattered Moorish units took refuge here from the marauding troops of Paio Peres Correia. Hence the historical site’s Moorish name - Algar dos Mouros. From the geophysical measuring point at a height of 479 metres the trail winds its way down to the village of Penina and from there heads back towards Pena beneath the imposing southern rock face. ie Helden unserer Kindheit begeistern uns auch als Erwachsene. Der Besuch in der Galerie ArtCatto, die erstmalig in Portugal AnimationsKunst präsentiert, gleicht daher einer Reise in die Vergangenheit, in eine Zeit, als die Bilder laufen lernten und Walt Disney seinen ersten vertonten Zeichentrickfilm Plane Crazy (1928) mit der von ihm erdachten Figur Mickey Mouse vorstellte. Dieses auf Folie gemalte Original, noch in Schwarzweiß, ist ebenso zu sehen wie die vertrauten, liebevollen Charaktere aus Filmen wie Ariel, Cinderella, Tom & Jerry, Pinocchio, Schneewittchen, König der Löwen, Betty Boop, Woody und Buzz Lightyear, den Protagonisten aus Toy Story oder Jessica Rabbit, der glamourösen Gattin von Roger Rabbit. Ein Großteil der Show ist den Simpsons gewidmet. Neben Originalfolien aus der Filmproduktion, sind sogar handgezeichnete Skizzen ausgestellt, für Fans der schrägen gelbhäutigen Familie fast schon ein Pflichtkauf und für 160 Euro ein Schnäppchen, wie die Zeichnung von Thelma Simpson, die noch während der Vernissage einen Käufer fand. Doch ArtCatto zeigt nicht nur AnimationsKunst sondern auch die wunderschönen, beinahe photorealistischen Gemälde des in Schweden lebenden Schotten Colin Fraser, der seit 30 Jahren mit Eitempera malt. Seine Bilder haben eine sehr intensive Leuchtkraft und wirken dadurch richtig „lebendig“. Die Ausstellung endet am 31.01. 2013.

he heroes of our childhood still enthuse as adults. Thus a visit to the ArtCatto Gallery, which is presenting animation art in Portugal for the first time, is like a trip to the past, back to a time when pictures first started moving and Walt Disney presented Plane Crazy, his first animated film with music (1928), featuring cartoon character Mickey Mouse. This original, painted on film in black and white, is on show beside other well-loved characters such as Ariel, Cinderella, Tom & Jerry, Pinocchio, Snow White, The Lion King, Betty Boop, Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, or Jessica Rabbit, the glamorous wife of Roger Rabbit. A large part of the exhibition is dedicated to the Simpsons. Besides original films from film production, there are even hand-drawn sketches on show, a must for fans of the weird yellow-skinned family and a bargain at 160 Euros. A sketch of Thelma Simpson found a buyer even before the opening night was over. ArtCatto shows more than animation art however, including the beautiful, almost photo-realistic paintings by Colin Fraser, a Scot who lives in Sweden, who has been painting with egg tempera for 30 years. His paintings possess a very intense luminosity, which makes them appear truly “alive”. The exhibition ends on 31.01.2013. Marius Müller

Being Aperitivo, the Wizard is the Wizard of Odd, rather than Oz, and the story has been given some decidedly odd new twists, but it remains a wonderfully enjoyable show, full of energy, colour, songs and even a little dance or two. eit Jahrtausenden nutzt der Mensch die Heilkraft des Meeres. Glaubt man chinesischen Überlieferungen, wurden unter Kaiser Shen Nung – dem die Welt auch die erste Tasse Tee zu verdanken hat – Schilddrüsenbehandlungen mit Algen durch-geführt. „Alles Leben stammt aus dem Meer“, behauptete Hippokrates von Kos (460 bis 377 v. Chr.) und therapierte seine Rheuma- und Ischiaspatienten mit Meerwasser. Doch dauerte es bis Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts bis sich Mediziner wieder auf diese uralte Heilmethode besannen. 1867 prägte der französi-sche Arzt Joseph de la Bonnadière den Begriff Thalasso-Therapie (griech. thalassa = das Meer; therapeia = Pflege). Heute ist die Therapie ein beliebter Bestandteil zahlreicher Wellness-Angebote und gerade die Algarve hat ideale Voraussetzungen für qualitätsgesicherte Behandlungen: die Thalasso-Zentren liegen unmittelbar am Meer und können frisch geschöpftes Meerwasser verwenden. Deshalb bieten die meisten Hotels und Resorts ihren Gästen Thalasso-Anwendungen an, das beginnt mit Peelings und Packungen aus Schlick oder Algen, Hippokrates führt über Reduktionskost, Aqua-Gymnastik, Meerwasserinhalation bis hin zu Bädern mit Hydromassage und Nordic Walking am Strand. Ein Ziel haben alle gemeinsam: Ent-schlackung und Versorgung des Körpers mit Mineralien und Spurenelementen in Verbindung mit der Reduktion überschüssigen Fettes. Der Name Thalasso-Therapie ist leider nicht geschützt, was bedeutet, dass jedes beliebige Spa- und Badezentrum Anwendungen anbieten kann. Zunehmend ist auch der inflationäre Gebrauch des Begriffes Thalasso für Produkte aus den Bereichen Kosmetik und Esoterik. Wer sich also für eine Therapie entscheidet, sollte darauf achten, dass diese unter ärztlicher Aufsicht und Begleitung eines professionellen Teams aus Masseuren, Hydrotherapeuten und Sportlehrern erfolgt. In der Regel dauert eine Therapie sechs bis sieben Tage mit drei Anwendungen pro Tag. Weitere Schwerpunkte der Thalasso-Therapie sind: Raucherentwöhnung in Verbindung mit Akupunktur, Anti Stress, Neurodermitis, Schuppenflechte, Gelenkerkrankungen und –beschwerden, Stärkung des Immunsystems, Krebsnachsorge, Rehabilitation nach Herzinfarkt, Schlaganfall und nach Operationen, sowie Rekonvaleszenz nach einer Schwangerschaft. Was den BeautyBereich anbelangt, eignen sich Meereskosmetik-Produkte perfekt für die Haut. Verdienstorden für Konsul Bach Seit zehn Jahren ist Michael Bruno Bach Honorarkonsul der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Faro. In dieser Funktion ist er einerseits Anlaufstelle für deutsche Touristen und Residenten in seiner Wahlheimat Algarve, andererseits für die deutsche Botschaft in Lissabon ein wichtiger Kontakt zu den portugiesischen Behörden vor Ort. Herr Bach übt diese Tätigkeit freiwillig und ehrenamtlich aus. Als Anerkennung für seine Leistungen wurde ihm vom Bundespräsidenten Joachim Gauck der Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland verliehen, den Botschafter Helmut Elfenkämper ihm am 12. Oktober in Lissabon überreichte.

Order of Merit for German Consul Michael Bruno Bach has been the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Faro for ten years. As such, he is both a contact point for German tourists and residents in his adopted home, the Algarve, and an important contact with the local Portuguese authorities for the German Embassy in Lisbon. Mr Bach exercises this activity voluntarily and in an honorary capacity. In recognition of his achievements, he has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by German President Joachim Gauck, presented by Ambassador Helmut Elfenkämper on October 12 in Lisbon.

Nele de Block 1975 in Belgien geboren studierte Nele de Block Textildesign in Brüssel bevor sie eine ausgeprägte Leidenschaft für die Webkunst entwickelte. Als künstlerische Leiterin eines Webstudios, war sie für die Herstellung von Stoffen und Mustern für namhafte Designer, Künstler und Architekten verantwortlich, während sie gleichzeitig Textildesign an der Saint Lucas Art School in Gent unterrichtete. Ihre Suche nach neuen Design Ideen führte die Belgierin nach Portugal, wo sie sich mit ihrem Mann und ihren zwei Kindern an der Algarve niederließ und 2010 das Label SENNES gründete. Fünf Millionen Haushalte sollen bis dahin einen Anbieter auf dem liberalisierten und iberisch vereinten Strommarkt MIBEL (Mercado Ibérico de Electricidade) wählen, der inzwischen neunzig Prozent des Energiemarktes beider Länder gemeinsam verwaltet, was unter anderem eine flexible Versorgung bei nationalen Engpässen sichern soll. Die Kundschaft hingegen ist unflexibel: Als Stromversorger ist bis heute der einstige Monopolist EDP (Energias de Portugal) im Bewusstsein der Portugiesen verankert, obwohl sie, ähnlich wie bei Telefon, TV und Internet, seit September 2006 auch für Strom und Erdgas den Anbieter und die Tarife gemäß ihrer individuellen Bedürfnisse wählen können und sollen. Doch nicht einmal zehn Prozent der Verbraucher haben bisher den Anbieterwechsel vollzogen, bei Erdgas sind es noch weniger. Umfragen zufolge interessiert sich höchstens jeder Fünfte für den neuen Markt. preisen liegen. Der Kunde soll zum Wechsel motiviert werden, denn „die Liberalisierung des Strommarkts hat nur Sinn, wenn die Verbraucher umdenken“, erklärt das WirtschaftsMinisterium. Der Energiekalender gilt EU-weit; in Portugal überwacht die Troika die Fristen und in ihrem Auftrag prüft die Regulierungsbehörde für den Energiemarkt (ERSE) alle drei Monate die Preise. Nicht nur die Konsumenten, auch Anbieter in Portugal sind zurückhaltend; zehn Erdgas-Versorger und sieben Stromkonzerne wollen Kunden gewinnen. Die bekannten Giganten GALP und EDP vorneweg liefern sich einen Preiskampf: EDP tritt in einer Doppelrolle auf: Als Überbleibsel des regulierten Marktes (‘Serviço Universal’) und als ‘EDP Comercial’, der Strom- und Gasversorger im Wettbewerb. GALP warb schon im Frühjahr, wer sowohl Strom als auch Gas des Unternehmes beziehe, könne mit bis zu zehn Prozent Preisnachlass rechnen. EDP zog nach, auch der spanische Konkurrent Endesa kündigt Rabatt an; andere haben einen so geringen Marktanteil, dass ihre Angebote untergehen. In Spanien hat sich EDP als Nummer Fünf der Anbieter etabliert, während spanische Energiefirmen in Portugal kaum ins Gewicht fallen. Die Preise der MIBEL-Großhändler auf beiden Seiten der Grenze seien praktisch ständig gleich, erklärt ERSE. So könnte Portugals Energiemarkt zu dem werden, was aus anderen Ländern bekannt ist: „Wenige große Anbieter beherrschen den Markt, Wettbewerb findet kaum statt, Angebote sind unübersichtlich“, sagt die auf Energierecht spezialisierte Juristin Carla Branco. Und der Strompreis für private Abnehmer steigt schneller als andere Preise. Teurer werdende Energieträger sind ebenso wenig der Grund dafür wie die Löhne des Sektors, denn dann könnte die Stromindustrie nicht seit Jahren auf enorme Gewinnsteigerungen blicken. Experten diagnostizieren schwerwiegende Fehler bei der Marktfreigabe: Einzelkomponenten, etwa Preise für die verschiedenen Ökostrom-Arten unterliegen weiterhin politischer, also staatlicher Reglementierung und „so kommen viele hundert Posten zusammen, die das freie Spiel der Marktpreise stark einschränken“, so die Juristin. Customers, however, are rather inflexible, as former monopolist EDP (Energias de Portugal) seems to be fixed as the only electricity supplier in the Portuguese consciousness to this day, although, since September 2006, they have been able to and should choose their energy and gas supplier and tariffs according to their individual needs, just like they do with the telephone, TV and Internet. Yet not even ten percent of consumers have changed suppliers so far, and the figure is even lower for natural gas. According to surveys only one in five people is interested in the new market. The transition period until the dissolution of all existing contracts only ends in 2015, but those who have failed to change by the end of 2012, while not having to sit in the dark, will still have to pay significantly higher prices per kilowatt hour, as determined by the ERSE (Energy Services Regulatory Body) and higher than those of the private providers. Customers should be motivated to change, because “the liberalisation of the electricity market only makes sense if consumers start to rethink”, explains the Ministry of Economy. The energy calendar applies EU wide; deadlines in Portugal are monitored by the Troika and the ERSE regulatory body will check the prices every three months on its behalf. Not only consumers, but also providers are cautious in Portugal; ten natural gas suppliers and seven electric-

ity companies are trying to attract customers. Well known giants GALP and EDP are engaged in a price war. EDP stars in a double role: as a remainder of the regulated market (‘Serviço Universal’) and as ‘EDP Comercial’, the competing electricity and gas supplier. In spring GALP has already been promising up to ten percent discount for clients, who buy both electricity and gas from the company. EDP followed this move, and Spanish rival Endesa has also announced discounts. Others have such a small market share that their offers go unnoticed. EDP has established itself as the number-five provider in Spain, while Spanish energy companies have made hardly any impact in Portugal. MIBEL wholesaler prices on both sides of the border are virtually always the same, ERSE explains. Thus Portugal’s energy market may well become like those in other countries: “A few large suppliers dominate the market, there’s hardly any competition, offers are unclear,” says Carla Branco, a lawyer specialising in energy law. And the price of electricity for domestic consumers is rising faster than other prices. The reasons for this can be found neither in expensive production costs nor in high wages in this sector, as enormous profit rises for years in the energy industry go to show. Experts diagnose severe errors in the market release: individual components, such as prices for the different types of green electricity are still subject to political regulation, meaning state regulation and thus “hundreds of factors come together, which strongly restrict the free play of market prices,” the lawyer says. Neues Steuermodell

ortugals Medien melden unlängst, die Regierung arbeite an einem Konzept zur Senkung der Unternehmenssteuer IRC (Imposto sobre o Rendimento das Pessoas Colectivas) für neue Investitionen in Höhe von drei bis fünf Millionen Euro, die in den Jahren 2013 bis 2017 getätigt werden. Bereits ab dem kommenden Jahr solle die IRC dafür auf zehn Prozent gesenkt werden (derzeit 25%), hieß es. Das wäre der niedrigste Unternehmens-Steuersatz in der EU; auf Platz zwei folgt Irland, das mit einer 12,5prozentigen Einkommensbesteuerung für Betriebe viele Firmen zu Investitionen motivieren konnte. Die niedrige Abgabenhöhe in Portugal soll aus der Feder von Wirtschaftsminister Álvaro Santos Pereira und einem Beraterstab stammen und für einen Zeitraum von zehn Jahren gelten, Wachstum schaffen und die Industrialisierung Portugals voranbringen. Ob das Vorhaben allerdings vom Gremium der internationalen Wirtschaftshilfe abgesegnet wird, die den Status Quo der staatlichen Finanzentwicklung prüft, ist fraglich. Der Widerstand in Brüssel gegen den Vorschlag dürfte sicher sein, denn bereits im Fall Irlands beklagt die EU-Kommission einen Verstoß gegen die angestrebte unionsweite Steuer-Harmonisierung. Auch in Portugal selbst gibt es Kritiker: João Pedro Soares vom Mittelstandsverband CPPME fürchtet, kleine und mittlere Betriebe im Land hätten keine Finanzmittel, um solche Investitionen zu tätigen, weshalb die Maßnahme „vor allem Investoren aus dem Ausland begeistern dürfte, Kapital in den bereits durch niedrige Lohnkosten attraktiven Standort Portugal“ zu bringen. ortugal’s media have recently reported that the government has been working on a concept to lower corporate tax IRC (Imposto sobre o Rendimento das Pessoas Colectivas) for new investments between three to five million Euros, which will be made in the years 2013 to 2017. The IRC for this would be reduced to ten percent (currently 25%) by next year already, it has been said. This would be the lowest corporate tax rate in the EU, followed by Ireland in second place, which managed to motivate many businesses to invest with its 12.5% income tax for companies. This low tax rate in Portugal has allegedly been penned by Economy Minister Álvaro Santos Pereira and a team of advisors and would apply for a period of ten years, create growth and push Portugal’s industrialisation forward. However, whether the project will be approved by the international economic aid committee, which checks the status quo of state financial development, is questionable. Brussels’ resistance to the proposal is pretty certain, as the EU Commission has already complained about a breach of the planned EU-wide tax harmonisation in the case of Ireland. There are also critics in Portugal itself: João Pedro Soares from Medium-Sized Businesses Association CPPME fears that the country’s small and medium sized companies lack financial resources to make such investments, thus the incentive would be likely to “mainly attract investors from abroad to bring capital to Portugal, which is already an attractive location due to its low wages”.
