What started out as a German language lifestyle magazine “Algarve Aktuell” in 2011 became the bilingual English/German Algarve Vida in May 2012, bringing a mix of inside information about the Algarve and local events. From June, we will be changing again! Algarve Vida is now part of a group of magazines and newspapers that goes far beyond Portugal’s borders and we have decided to fill a gap in the market and create the Algarve’s most comprehensive monthly guide to what’s on in the region. Nach zwei Jahren präsentiert sich unser Magazin mit dieser Ausgabe zum letzten Mal in gewohntem Gewand. Was als deutschsprachiges Lifestyle-Magazin „Algarve Aktuell“ im Jahr 2011 begann, wurde im Mai 2012 zur deutsch- und englischsprachigen „Algarve Vida”, die eine Mischung aus Insider-Informationen über das Leben und die Veranstaltungen in der Algarve geboten hat. Mit der kommenden Juni-Ausgabe entwickelt sich Algarve Vida erneut weiter. SALIR Salir hat eine reiche Geschichte. Die Historiker sind sich einig, dass dieses Dorf einst von den Kelten bewohnt wurde, aber letztendlich waren es die Araber, durch die Salir an Bedeutung gewann

on der Zeit der maurischen Besetzung im zwölften Jahrhundert zeugen die Ruinen einer Burg. In Salir war es auch, wo D. Paio Peres Correia auf Afonso III wartete, um mit ihm gemeinsam die Eroberung der Provinz in Angriff zu nehmen. Das heute kleine und unscheinbare Dorf wurde damals zum strategischen Bezugspunkt und eine wichtige Stütze bei der Rückeroberung der Algarve. Salir liegt rund 13 km nördlich von der Kreisstadt Loulé entfernt und bildet den Übergang vom Barrocal zur Serra Algarvia, hinter deren Hügelkette die Nachbarprovinz Alentejo beginnt.

Salir has a rich history. Historians are unanimous in the belief that this village was once inhabited by the Celts, but ultimately it was the Arabs who made Salir important

he ruins of a twelfth century castle bear witness to the time of the Moorish occupation. It was also in Salir where D. Paio Peres Correia waited for Afonso III to take on with him the conquest of the province. What is now a small and inconspicuous village, at that time became a strategic point of reference and an important support base for retaking the Algarve. Salir is located approximately 13 kilometres north of the county town of Loulé and forms the crossover point from Barrocal and the Serra Algarvia, behind whose hills the neighbouring province of Alentejo begins.

The traditional architecture of the buildings with their typical facades, roof terraces and chimneys, the wind and water mills and the archaeological site all make Salir a place of extraordinary beauty. The community boasts some 3,500 inhabitants, mostly living from agriculture and, in the main, processing almonds, carob, Medronho, figs, olives and cork. In many ways Salir has an enormous potential for tourism, e.g. hiking or hunting in the countryside. The castle of Salir and the nearby areas Malhão, Rocha da Pena, Nave do Barão, Barranco do Velho and Morgado are excellent destinations for day trips. Being a typical Portuguese community, it is not surprising that the population of Salir attaches great importance to the preservation of its culture and traditions. The Festa da Espiga (corn festival), which takes place this year from 29th – 31st May, is arguably Salir’s most important traditional celebration and its roots lie far back in history. Etwa 3.500 Einwohner zählt die Gemeinde, die überwiegend von der Landwirtschaft lebt und in erster Linie Mandeln, Johannisbrot, Medronho, Feigen, Oliven und Kork weiterverarbeitet. Salir bietet in vielerlei Hinsicht ein enormes touristisches Potenzial, z.B. für den Land-, Wander- oder Jagdtourismus. Die Burg von Salir und die naheliegenden Gebiete Malhão, Rocha da Pena, Nave do Barão, Barranco do Velho und Morgado sind ausgezeichnete Ziele für Tagesausflüge. Als typisch portugiesische Gemeinde ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass die Bevölkerung von Salir viel Wert auf den Erhalt ihrer Kultur und Traditionen legt. uch wenn es heutzutage nur noch wenige Menschen gibt, die an diesem Tag ihre Verpflichtungen vergessen, um auf dem Feld einen Ährenstrauß zu binden oder in der Kirche die religiösen Grundsätze von Christi Himmelfahrt zu feiern, gab es eine Zeit in Portugal, zu der an diesem Datum im ganzen Land prunkvolle Zeremonien stattfanden. Dieser Tag gilt als einer der festlichsten des Jahres, und die Arbeit wurde niedergelegt. Das alte portugiesische Sprichwort “No Dia da Ascensão nem os passarinhos bolem nos ninhos” (an Christi Himmelfahrt bauen nicht mal die Vögel an ihren Nestern) leitet sich von dieser Tradition ab. Dieser Feiertag stammt jedoch aus einer wesentlich früheren Zeitrechnung als der christlichen. Er ist ein direktes Erbe der Heiden, die in der mediterranen Welt über Jahrhunderte Rituale durchführten und mit intensiven Liedern und Tänzen den erwachten Frühling und die Natur begrüßten. Für die archaischen Völker hatte dieses Datum, wie alle Momente des Übergangs, eine magische und erhabene Bedeutung. Das pflanzliche und tierische Leben wurde aufgefordert, aus der Lethargie der kalten Monate auszubrechen und Hoffnung auf eine gute Ernte zu geben. Die Kirche von Rom hat diesen Tag, so wie viele andere uralte heidnische Festtage, später zu einem christlichen Feiertag mit doppelter Bedeutung ernannt: zu Christi Himmelfahrt, für die Christen als Gedenktag des Aufstiegs von Jesus in den Himmel 40 Tage nach seiner Auferstehung, und dem Ährentag, ohne religiöse Aspekte und Überzeugungen, sondern ausschließlich für den familiären und landwirtschaftlichen Lebensraum. An dem Ährentag ist es in Portugal Tradition, eine Espiga zu binden, ein nicht nur üppiges Bukett von verschiedenen Pflanzen, deren Zusammensetzung, Anzahl und Bedeutung von Region zu Region variieren und das in der Regel ein Jahr an der Küchen- oder Wohnzimmerwand hängt, sondern auch ein mächtiges und facettenreiches Amulett, das Überfluss, Freude, Gesundheit und Glück bringen soll. Ungeachtet einiger regionaler Unterschiede besteht die Espiga im allgemeinen aus Weizen- und anderen Getreideähren wie Roggen, Gerste oder Hafer, Olivenzweigen, Reben, Mohn-, Ringel- oder anderen Wildblumen und Kräutern. Die Symbolik der einzelnen Pflanzen ist wie folgt: das Getreide steht für Brot, die Wildblumen für Gold und Silber, der Mohn für die Liebe und das Leben, der Olivenzweig für Öl und Frieden, die Rebe für Wein und Freude und der Rosmarin für Gesundheit und Kraft. In der Algarve ist es bis heute Tradition, der Espiga eine Scheibe Brot hinzuzufügen, um sich während des ganzen Jahres dieses wichtigen Lebensmittels sicher zu sein.

The Dia da Espiga (“Day of Corn”) in Portugal happens to be celebrated on the same day as Ascension Day, exactly 39 days after Easter Sunday. It is a movable feast which follows the Christian liturgical calendar Even though these days there is still hardly anyone who ignores the fact that, on this day, the custom is to tie up bunches of wheat on the fields or to obey the religious principles of the Ascension in church, there was once a time in Portugal when all across the country on this date magnificent ceremonies would take place and the day was seen as one of the most festive of the year when all work would cease. The old Portuguese saying, “No Dia da Ascensão nem os passarinhos bolem nos ninhos” (on Ascension Day, even the birds stop building their nests) is derived from this tradition. However, this day goes back to a much earlier era than Christian times. It is a direct legacy of the pagans who performed these rituals in the Mediterranean world for centuries and welcomed the awakening of spring and nature with powerful songs and dances. For these ancient peoples this date, like all moments of change and transition, took on a magical and exalted significance. The plant and animal life was invited to break the lethargy of the cold months and to give people hope for a good harvest. As with many other ancient pagan festival days, the Church of Rome then claimed this day as a Christian holiday, with both meanings: Ascension Day for the Christians in memory of the ascent of Jesus to heaven 40 days after his resurrection, and the Day of Corn, without any religious aspects and beliefs, just for the family and agricultural regions. On the Day of Corn, it is traditional in Portugal to tie up an Espiga which consists not only of a sumptuous bouquet of various plants, their composition, number and importance varying from region to region, usually hung up for a year on the kitchen or living room wall, but also a powerful and multi-faceted amulet which is supposed to bring abundance, joy, health and happiness. Apart from a few different places, this Espiga is generally made up of wheat and other cereals such as rye, barley or oats, olive branches, vines, poppies, calendula or other wild flowers and herbs. The symbolism of each plant is as follows: the cereals stand for bread, the wild flowers are for gold and silver, the poppy is for love and life, the olive branch is for oil and peace, the vine is for wine and joy and rosemary is for health and strength. In the Algarve, it is still traditional to add a slice of bread to the Espiga in order to be sure of having this important foodstuff the whole year round. Ludwig Riet

XX CULTURE WEEK

Seit dem 25. April beherbergt das Dorf Alte die Kulturwoche, die in diesem Jahr ihren 20. Geburtstag feiert. Mit Kultur-, Freizeit- und Sportaktivitäten lockt das Event zahlreiche Besucher aus der Küstenregion in das kleine typischen Algarvedorf im Hinterland. Die Kulturwoche schließt am 1. Mai mit dem Höhepunkte des Programms: dem Messe-und Folklorefestival, bei dem unter anderem eine traditionelle Hochzeitszeremonie nachgestellt wird. Außerdem gibt es einen Contest der Maio-Puppen (s.S.11), die von den Dorfbewohnern hergestellt wurden, mit dem Ziel, diese alte Tradition in der Sierra der Algarve wiederzubeleben. Um 11.00 Uhr findet an der Fonte Grande eine kleine Handwerksmesse mit musikalischer Untermalung statt. Ab 12.00 Uhr wir das eigentliche Fest eröffnet, mit traditionellen Speisen und Snacks, die man nicht verpassen sollte. Hausgemachte Wurst (Chouriça assada) und Landbrot, Schnecken (caracóis), eingelegter Fisch (carapaus alimados), Bohneneintopf (cozido de grão), regionale Süßigkeiten und Liköre sind nur einige der Leckerbissen, die angeboten werden. Um 15.00 Uhr startet das Folklore-Festival unter Mitwirkung der Folkloregruppe aus Pedralva (Anadia), aus Vila Nova Coitus (Santarém), aus Carregado (Alenquer) und des Casa do Povo in Alte. Alte ist ein Dorf, das den alten Traditionen der Algarve verpflichtet ist und bietet attraktive Alternativen zu Sonne und Meer. In diesen Tagen ist der Ort auf jeden Fall ein Muss für Besucher, die die wahren Traditionen der Region kennenlernen möchten.

Since 25th April, the village Alte has been home to the Culture Week, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. With its cultural, leisure and sports activities, the event attracts large numbers of visitors from the coastal region to the small, typical Algarve village in the hinterland. The Culture Week finishes on 1st May with the highlight of the programme: the fair and folk festival, during which, among other things, a traditional wedding ceremony is acted out. There is also a contest for Maio dolls (see p.11) which the villagers will have made themselves with the aim of reviving this ancient tradition in the Sierra of the Algarve. At 11 am there will be a small handicraft fair at the Fonte Grande with musical accompaniment. At 12 midday, the festival itself opens with traditional meals and snacks that you should not miss. Homemade sausage (chouriça assada) and country bread, snails (caracóis), pickled fish (carapaus alimados), bean stew (cozido de grão), regional sweets and liqueurs are just some of the delicacies that will be on offer. At 3 pm the folklore festival kicks off with the following groups taking part: folklore groups from Pedralva (Anadia), from Vila Nova Coitus (Santarém), from Carregado (Alenquer) and the Casa do Povo in Alte. Alte is a village which has stayed true to the ancient traditions of the Algarve and which provides an alternative to the sun and the sea. These days it is quite simply a must for visitors who want to experience the true traditions of the region.

Wer nach der Herkunft der Maios – oder Maias, wie sie auch genannt werden – in der Algarve sucht, findet keine genauen Angaben. Sie scheint eine Mischung aus verschiedenen Traditionen aus Nord-Portugal zu sein, die ihre Ursprünge in den römischen Floralien haben; ein Fest, das zu Ehren der Blumengöttin Flora, der Patronin des Frühlings und der Blumen, am 28. April gefeiert wurde. Im Minho war der 1. Mai der Tag der Maias (Blumenkränze aus Ginster), die am Abend des 30. April an allen Fenstern und Türen aufgehängt wurden, um am nächsten morgen den Anbruch der warmen Jahreszeit zu feiern. Die Blumen sollten auch dazu dienen, die bösen Geister „Maio“, „Carrapato“ oder „Burro“ fern zu halten. In Trás-os-Montes haben die Mädchen auch gerne einen Jungen geschmückt, den Maio-Moço, und ihn tanzend und singend durch die Straßen geführt. In anderen Regionen spricht man von der Maia, einer Puppe aus Stroh, um die herum während der Nacht Volkstänze aufgeführt wurden. Oft war es auch – wie die Göttin Flora – ein in weiß gekleidetes und mit Blumen geschmücktes Mädchen, das auf einem Thron saß und durch die Tänze verehrt wurde. Dieses Fest mit heidnischen Wurzeln wurde immer wieder verboten, so wie im Jahr 1402 in Lissabon durch einen königlichen Erlass: „Weder Maias noch an-

dere Lieder, die gegen Gottes Gesetz verstoßen, dürfen gesungen werden,“. In der Algarve besagt eine Legende, dass Lagos einmal von einem Mann aufgesucht wurde, der den Bewohnern Wunder im Tausch gegen Gold und Schmuck versprach und dann für immer verschwand. Deshalb wurden mit Stroh oder Schaum gefüllten Puppen aufgestellt, die dazu dienen sollten, solche Schwindler, die auch Maios genannt werden, fernzuhalten. In einigen Orten der Algarve sind die Bewohner, lokale Vereine oder die Gemeinde darum bemüht, diesen Brauch zu erhalten, und organisieren Wettbewerbe und Ausstellungen, so z.B. in Odeleite (Castro Marim), Olhão, Estói und Montenegro (Faro). Die Maios werden in den meisten Orten entlang der Straßen oder an bestimmten Plätzen gezeigt. Ganz traditionstreu sind sie nicht, denn sie tragen oft modernere Kleidung. Und die Verse, meistens mit politischem Inhalt, welche an den meisten Puppen angebracht sind, gehören sicher auch nicht zur ursprünglichen Tradition. Früher packten die Familien der Algarve am 1. Mai Feigen, Mandeln, die traditionellen Rolhas de Maio (kleine Kuchen aus Mandeln und Eiern) und Branntwein ein und unternahmen einen Ausflug aufs Land, um den Frühling zu begrüßen. Die Mädchen schmückten sich und überall wurden Maias – Ginsterblumen-Kränze – angebracht. Auch heute ist es in der Algarve noch Brauch, den 1. Mai auf dem Land, am liebsten nahe eines Flusses, zu verbringen.

TRADITIONS IN MAY Anyone looking into the origin of the Maios - or Maias, as they are also called - in the Algarve will find it hard to get any precise information. It seems to be a mixture of various traditions from northern Portugal which have their origins in the Roman Floralia. This was a festival that was celebrated on April 28th in honour of the goddess of flowers, Flora, a kind of patron saint of spring and flowers. In Minho, the 1st of May was the day of the Maias - floral wreaths of gorse which were hung up on all the windows and doors on the evening of April 30th to celebrate the beginning of the warm season the next morning. The flowers were also intended to keep away the evil spirits “Maio”, “Carrapato” or “Burro”. In Trás-os-Montes, the girls also used dress up a boy, the Maio-Moço, and lead him dancing and singing through the streets. In other regions, they talk of the Maia, a doll made of straw, around which folk dances were performed during the night. Often it would also be a girl dressed in white and adorned with flowers - like the goddess Flora -who would sit on a throne and accept the worship of the dances. This festival, with its pagan roots, was repeatedly banned, as, for example, in Lisbon in 1402 by royal decree: “neither Maias nor other songs which violate God‘s law may

be sung.” In the Algarve, there is a legend which tells that Lagos was once visited by a man who promised the residents miracles in exchange for gold and jewellery and then disappeared forever. For this reason, straw or foam-filled dolls used to be set up to keep away these kinds of swindlers, who were also known as Maios. In some places in the Algarve, the residents, local associations and the community itself are keen to keep this tradition going and they organise competitions and exhibitions. For example in Odeleite (Castro Marim), Olhão, Estói and Montenegro (Faro). In most places, the Maios are displayed along the streets or in particular locations. They are not absolutely true to tradition because they are often dressed in more modern clothing. And the different verses which are attached to most of the dolls, usually with political content, are certainly not true to the original tradition. On May 1st, the families of the Algarve would pack up figs, almonds, the traditional Rolhas de Maio (small cakes made with almonds and eggs) and brandy and take a trip to the country to welcome the spring. The girls would dress themselves up with jewellery and Maias - gorse flower wreaths – would be attached everywhere. Jedes Jahr findet in der Algarve eine Mega-Ausstellung von Sandskulpturen statt: die FIESA. Vierzigtausend Tonnen Sand werden jedes Mal in hoch aufragende Skulpturen verwandelt, die sich einem jährlich wechseldem Thema widmen. Dieses Jahr gibt es eine weitere Ausgabe zeitloser und bekannter musikalischer Vorbilder. Von einer Gruppe von Künstlern aus verschiedenen Teilen der Welt geschnitzt, werden auf 15.000 qm Menschen und Objekte, die der Musik verbunden sind, kreativ in Szene gesetzt. Die Sandskulpuren können eine Höhe von 12 Metern erreichen und spiegeln die musikalischen Stilrichtungen aus verschiedenen Ländern der Welt wieder. Die Ursprünge der Musik- und der musikalische Ausdruck in Kombination mit anderen Kunstformen wie Tanz, Oper, Zirkus, Theater und Film inspirierten zu etwa siebzig Szenen aus Sand. 12th International Sand Sculpture Festival Every year in the Algarve, a mega exhibition of sand sculptures is held: the FIESA. Every time it is held, some forty thousand tons of sand get turned into towering sculptures, always devoted to a particular topic. This year, there is another selection of timeless and universal musical heroes. A group of artists from all over the world will come to make creative sand sculptures of people and objects associated with the music scene over an area of 15,000 sq.m. The sand sculptures can reach a height of 12 metres and are intended to reflect the musical styles from different countries of the world. The origins of music and musical

expression in combination with other art forms such as dance, opera, circus, theatre and film provide the inspiration for some seventy scenes made in sand. Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Bono, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Freddie Mercury, Frank Zappa, Ray Charles, Pavarotti, Mozart and Amalia are some of the musicians who are featured, as well as several scenarios that are dedicated to the younger members of the audience. arl Heinz Stock, ein erfolgreicher deutscher Unternehmer, widmet sich seit den späten 80er Jahren der Kunst. Vor mehr als zwei Jahrzehnten siedelte er in die Algarve um und beschäftigt sich seitdem überwiegend mit der Modernisierung diverser lokaler Unternehmen. arl Heinz Stock, a successful German entrepreneur, has been dabbling in art since the late 80s. Having established residence in the Algarve over two decades ago, he has kept himself busy by “revamping” numerous companies, whilst continuing to produce stunning pieces of art. His art is inspired by names such as Henry Spencer Moore, Fernando Botero and Niki de Saint Phalle. You can detect traces of each artist‘s works in the unique array of creations that include full bodied women - dubbed “Graces”; animal figures, such as elephants, bulls, bears, frogs, horses and hippopotamuses, “Multifaceted Globes” and various other forms. But how does he achieve such delicate and gravity-defying poses in sculptures so large? The genius behind the art is a result of using polystyrene and fibreglass. These materials allow this incredible balance between opulent proportions and seamlessly floating positions. Over the last few years, his sculptures have been displayed at 25 touring exhibitions in many venues such as shopping centres and museums in the Algarve and throughout Portugal, where they have been seen by an estimated 2 million people, and shown on English, German, Dutch and Portuguese television channels. Mai mit dem Musikmärchen “Peter und der Wolf”, 1936 von Prokofjew komponiert. Das pädagogische Ziel des Konzerts besteht darin, die jüngsten Zuhörer verschiedene Musikinstrumente durch Sehen und Hören identifizieren zu lassen. Peter and the Wolf The Promenade Concerts 2014, put on by the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, present images of the imagination, based on “stories with music”. This whole concert series brings families together to listen to Grimm’s fairy tales in their musical setting. There is the story of the little tailor, “The Bremen Town Musicians” and “The Girl from the Sea”. The 2014 cycle of promenade concerts ends in May with the musical tale “Peter and the Wolf”, composed in 1936 by Prokofiev. It is a story for children and also has the educational goal of getting children to identify different musical instruments by seeing them and hearing them. The film opened this year’s Cannes Film Festival and presents Nicole Kidman in the role of Grace Kelly, who became Princess Grace of Monaco by her marriage to Prince Rainier. Crime Dinner Found dead! - one of the guests at the shooting party held by Lord and Lady Muck up at the Manor. Was it an accident or is it murder? Certainly the dead man had a number of enemies amongst the inhabitants of the local village - Lord Muck couldn’t stand him, his wife appeared to be frightened of him - even young Master Jeremy, who invited him to the event, seemed to thoroughly dislike him! And then there are the villagers - poor Mrs Blenkinsop, wife of the mayor, is oddly upset by seeing a ‘strange man’ in the street, and Miss Rebecca Resentful knows him as the lover who recently cast her aside like a worn out glove. Miss Prunes and Miss Prism at the local library have observed it all - and gossiped all about it! You can see it all too, if you come along to one of Aperitivo’s performances. Set in the 1920s, audiences will enjoy 40 minutes of hilarious theatre and can then chew over the clues during dinner. After dinner comes the denouement, and the selection of one lucky, prize-winning member of the audience whose keen intellect unmasked the guilty party. Still Running Exhibition “DRAWINGS FROM PRISON“, by Álvaro Cunhal Ausstellung „Zeichnungen aus dem Gefängnis“ von Álvaro Cunhal

– 09.06.2014 Álvaro Cunhal’s experiences are the result of having been imprisoned for eleven years, 8 of which were in isolation, and that inspired many drawings between 1951 and 1959 in a prison cell in Lisbon. The drawings do not have titles; they convey a message that does not need titles to be understood by anyone who can “read” the drawings. People are an important theme, along with work, the struggle, suffering, misery, joy, festivity and women. Das historische Archiv von Albufeira stellt Bilder des großen politischen Führers Àlvaro Cunhal aus, die er während seiner Inhaftierung in Lissabon von 1950 -1959 zeichnete. Die Werke haben keine Titel; der Betrachter versteht die Nachricht, indem er die Zeichnungen „liest“. Menschen sind in seinen Arbeiten ein wichtiges Thema, sowie Arbeit, Kampf, Leid, Elend, Freude, Festlichkeiten und Frauen.

Die Niederländische Künstlerin Elly Maessen lebt und arbeitet in Portugal seit 1998. Sie hat ihre Werke schon mehrmals in der Algarve ausgestellt, ebenso in Lissabon und im Ausland. 21:30 “Texts from the Revolution” consists of excerpts from five novels by António Lobo Antunes (Auto of the Damned, Knowledge of Hell, Alexandrian Fado, Manual of Inquisitors, and Exhortation to the Crocodiles ), which have the Revolution as their backdrop. During the show the spectator will hear and see seven characters, each recalling their own 25th of April: a charitable member of the bourgeois, a worker, a political activist arrested in Caxias, a banker, an exploited peasant, the wife of a counter-revolutionary and a maid. These characters are not any heroes, but ordinary people, full of contradictions, leading an anonymous life in the margins of historical events.

What freaks is this about? Firstly, it is about the strange figures in politics and business, but it also focuses on freaks in the Vatican, in the health food store and the Rotary Club. But above all, it is about those who get together in a biotope for the insane of all kinds: In the wonderful world of television entertainment. “Freaks“ is set in the author‘s office of a fictional TV show. Sammy Boehme is the star of the show. The camera loves him. The mothers-in-law also love him. Most of all, he loves himself. Unfortunately, Sammy is not only vain, but he is not the most intellectually gifted. Editorial director Maude and gag writer Christian are under pressure to get the capricious star used to thinking, as opposed to improvising. Unfortunately, the depressive producer Wolfgang and the naive intern Vanessa are no great help either. Kom (m) ödchen stands for young, fresh, contemporary satire with a program in which cabaret meets oblique types, music, sitcom, stand-up and theatre. Um welche Freaks geht es? Zunächst um die eigenartigen Gestalten in Politik und Wirtschaft. Aber auch um die im Vatikan, im Bioladen und im Rotary-Club. Vor allem aber um diejenigen, die sich sammeln im weitaus größten Biotop für Geistesgestörte aller Art: In der wunderbaren Welt der Fernsehunterhaltung.“Freaks“ spielt im Autorenbüro einer fiktiven Fernsehshow. Sammy Boehme ist der Star der Sendung. Die Kamera liebt ihn. Die Schwiegermütter lieben ihn auch. Am allermeisten liebt er sich selbst. Leider ist Sammy nicht nur eitel, sondern intellektuell auch eher sparsam ausge stattet. Redaktionsleiterin Maude und Gagschreiber Christian haben ihre Mühe, dem kapriziösen Star das Improvisieren ab- und das Denken anzugewöhnen. Der depressive Producer Wolfgang und die naive Praktikantin Vanessa sind dabei leider auch keine allzu große Hilfe. – 02.07.2014 González Bravo was born in 1944 in Badajoz in Spain but has lived in Portugal since 1970. Since 1981 he has been a regular and highly successful exhibitor in individual and group exhibitions not only in Portugal, but also in Germany and in France where he published an edition containing many of his works entitled “Euvres 1990 – 2000”. The artistic style of González Bravo reflects the great 20th Century movement of informalism art, a period of European art which mirrored that of American abstract expressionism. His works are noted for their progressive adoption of aesthetic abstractionism, with figurative elements melding with abstract expressionism and the spontaneous use of materials to create memorable pieces that challenge the viewer to reconsider their established preconceptions of abstract art. González Bravo wurde 1944 in Badajoz in Spanien geboren, jedoch lebt er seit 1970 in Portugal. Seit 1981 stellt er regelmäßig und sehr erfolgreich in Einzel-und Gruppenausstellungen in Portugal aus, aber auch in Deutschland und in Frankreich, wo er eine Ausgabe mit vielen seiner Werke unter dem Titel „Euvres 1990 - 2000“ veröffentlicht hat. Der künstlerische Stil von González Bravo spiegelt die große Bewegung der Informalismus-Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts wieder, welche eine Periode der europäischen Kunst ist, die dem des amerikanischen abstrakten Expressionismus gleich kommt. Seine Werke sind durch ihre moderne Übernahme der ästhetischen Abstraktion geprägt, bei denen bildliche Elemente mit abstraktem Expressionismus verschmelzen und durch die spontane Verwendung von Materialien unvergessliche Stücke geschaffen werden, die den Betrachter herausfordern, etablierte Vorurteile über abstrakte Kunst zu überdenken.

17:00 – 18:00 The Flutes Ensemble was formed in 1994 by students of the School of Music of the municipality of Loulé, under Professor Francisco Rosado, in order to promote the historical repertoire of this type of instrumental training. During their festival performance, pieces from various composers, including Jacques Moderne, Pierre Phalèse, Robert Bateman, Jacob van Eyck, Arcangelo Corelli, Georg Philipp Telemann, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier and Matthias Maute will be interpreted. Das Flöten-Ensemble wurde im Jahr 1994 von Studenten der Musikschule von Loulé von Professor Francisco Rosado gebildet, um das historische Repertoire dieser Art der instrumentalen Ausbildung zu fördern. Museu Municipal de Tavira - Núcleo Museológico Islâmico

threw the dictatorship and returned freedom and democracy to the Portuguese people. Born in Lisbon in 1933, Colonel Melo Antunes lived in Tavira for 7 years before joining the Military School. For him, Tavira was a town that he much loved and visited regularly and where he spent time with friends. He had a military career like his father, served three tours of duty in Africa, but was always linked to opposition to the regime . Die Organisation dieser Ausstellung erfolgte in enger Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Stadtverwaltung von Tavira, dem 1. Infanterie-Regiment, dem Verband des 25. Aprils und der Familie von Melo Antunes, vertreten durch seinem Bruder Fernando Melo Antunes. Die Ausstellung ist bis zum 31. August 2014 geöffnet und kann täglich bis Ende Juni von 10.00 bis 18.00 Uhr und in den Monaten Juli und August von 10.00 bis 22.00 Uhr besucht werden. Ernesto Melo Antunes war eine der zentralen Figuren der Kapitäns-Bewegung, die am 25. April 1974 die Diktatur stürzte und dem Portugiesischem Volk damit Freiheit und Demokratie zurückgab. Geboren wurde Antunes in Lissabon im Jahr 1933. Bevor er die Militärschule besuchte, lebte er 7 Jahre lang in Tavira - eine Stadt, die er sehr liebte, regelmäßig besuchte und in der er viel Zeit mit Freunden verbrachte. Er hatte eine militärische Karriere wie sein Vater, diente in drei Einsätzen in Afrika und stand immer in Verbindung mit der Opposition gegen das Regime. Participants spend plenty of time in the water during the day and have a video analysis with our coach Ale Rista in the evening in our Surf Hostel in Sagres. There are only 8 places available.
