CV - Kimmy El-Dash

I have worked on a range of different consultancy aspects. I have had the opportunity to assist design teams throughout the process of BREEAM certification and writing sustainability statements in support to planning applications. I have also had the opportunity of contributing to a design guide intended to improve the design of social housing schemes, focusing on design strategies to improve building performance, occupant comfort, handover and maintenance. More recently I have been working on embodied carbon analysis for different projects, highlighting to architects and engineers the impact of their material and system selection. Nov 2015 - May 2019 ZEDfactory Europe Ltd I Wallington I England

I Architectural Practice I Position: Architect I Architectural Technologist I Environmental Analyst I SAP&EPC assessor I ZEDfactory is an award winning architectural practice which focuses on energy efficiency and zero carbon design. It is a unique practice where we did everything, from 'off-the-shelf products', concepts and all the way through to construction. Our designs focus on building performance through a holistic approach to sustainability, including the specification of highly insulated thermal envelope, the use of natural building materials and attention to detailing to ensure low levels of air tightness and minimize cold bridges; mechanical systems are carefully selected to complement the fabric first approach, thus ensuring energy efficient, long-lasting and comfortable buildings. In addition to the design and detailing aspects of construction I also did the SAPs and EPCs for all residential schemes that the practice worked on. Projects: 2017 - 2019 Jackson House I Brighton Hove

I

Scheme: £600K 'One-off' dwelling

After finalizing the planning application, I have been working on the detailing of this 'one-off' 120m2 dwelling. This is a two storey dwelling, partially underground, which is being designed and detailed to be very energy efficient with a healthy indoor environment, through a fabric first approach. The careful detailing ensures a low level of air tightness, low U values and reduced cold bridging. This is being coupled with an air-to-air/water system that will provide the space heating and hot water, powered by a roof integrated PV system. Furthermore, as much as possible, natural materials are carefully selected to create a breathable envelope contributing to the indoor air quality.

2017 - 2019 Barnard House I Sid Cup Scheme: £750k

I 5N° flats (conversion) & 2N° new build dwellings

The proposal is for the erection of 2N° new energy efficient dwellings in the rear garden of a Victorian house. The project will be funded by the conversion of the existing house into flats. Through minor amendments' to the rear facade and internal layout, I have managed to allow for 5 flats. The 2 new builds are based on one of our standard Zero Bills Homes; however I have adjusted them to suit the client's requirements and site constraints. The scheme has recently obtained planning approval.

2017 - 2018 Castle Hill Road I Hastings Scheme: £2M

I 5N° new build dwellings

The scheme consists of 5 terraced, 3 storey dwellings, built in the vicinity of Hastings Castle on a site that was derelict for many years. These highly energy efficient dwellings demonstrate that good performance and good quality architecture are not mutually exclusive. I got involved at the end of the project and was tasked with discharging the remaining planning conditions. I also did the SAP assessments and the EPCs.

2015 - 2017 ZEDpods

I UK

Scheme: £75k

I Micro homes over car parks

ZEDpods are part of ZEDfactory's 'product range'. They are prefabricated energy efficient micro homes which are assembled in a factory and then erected over car parks with the use of a forklift, without the need to dig foundations. They are designed to be grouped in a terraced arrangement, following the existing car park grid, creating new homes in otherwise unused 'air rights'. I worked, as part of a team, on the development of the concept, and designed the internal layout of the prototype. The aim was to accommodate occupants' needs within the construction system limitations whilst complying with building regulation requirements. I also did the preliminary site analysis and layouts for a number of potential schemes. The prototype was built in a factory in Cardiff, and it has now been relocated to the BRE innovation Park in Watford.

Commercial Connections Ltd I Crossgar

I N. Ireland I Acoustic & Thermal product and services provider I Position: Building energy assessor (2-3 days per week from October 2010)

Within the energy side of the business, I produced SAP assessments and also generated EPCs when required. I also did the companies first ‘Code for Sustainable homes’ assessment: The library site in Templepatrick, N. Ireland (Level 4). We also did air tightness testing for domestic and commercial buildings. I organized the tests and made the necessary calculations so that the engineers could complete them. I then processed the figures to generate the certificates. On the acoustic side, we supplied products to reduce reverberation, attenuate impact and airborne noise for newly built schemes, refurbishment and conversions. I advised clients on the difficulties of successfully attenuating noise as well as quantifying the necessary tests for Code for Sustainable Homes compliance and Building control.

Aug 2005 - Jul 2009

The Carvill Group Ltd I Dunmurry I N. Ireland

I Housing Developers I Position: Technical Assistant

As a technical assistant I produced the necessary legal drawings for sale of the dwellings (lease maps) and for boundary disputes when necessary. I also produced the SAP and EPCs for the most recent schemes. At Carvill's I was also exposed to a number of projects which ranged from the conceptual stage, through planning, design development and construction, all the way to handover. Mainly, I compiled information necessary to allow for the Eco-homes certification for the company's developments. This included constant contact and negotiation with the surveying department to ensure materials were adequately sourced and appropriate specification was kept. Projects: 2007 - 2010 Woodbrook Village (phase 1) I Lisburn

I

Scheme: £35m 350 dwellings (apartments & 2 storey houses) & 8 Offices Master plan: Llewellyn Davies Yeang Architect: TODD Architects Eco-Homes rating: Very Good

This was a Greenfield site where a total of 350 dwellings were proposed for the first development phase. Construction started in 2007, with the first 100 units being completed in 2009. The scheme was hailed as Northern Ireland's first eco-village. Features such as a woodchip biomass district heating system, permeable paving and a surface water attenuation pond were some of the environmentally friendly features of the scheme. The scheme received the RTPI/RSPB Northern Ireland Sustainable Planning Award (2009) for Urban Development and the Built Environment.
