Building Services Engineer

Sustainability Consultant Max Fordham’s are building services engineers, specialising in environmental engineering. This encompasses everything from daylight and acoustics to building physics and sustainability. I work in Max Fordham’s sustainability team as a sustainability consultant, where we provide focused consultancy services for clients dealing with issues that cut across sustainability and climate change aspects of the built environment. Our consultancy services span from bespoke advice to recognised certification schemes, embodied carbon analysis, NetZero Carbon advice and building performance. I have worked on a range of different consultancy aspects. I have had the opportunity to assist design teams throughout the process of BREEAM certification and writing sustainability statements in support to planning applications. I have also had the opportunity of contributing to a design guide intended to improve the design of social housing schemes, focusing on design strategies to improve building performance, occupant comfort, handover and maintenance. More recently I have been working on embodied carbon analysis for different projects, highlighting to architects and engineers the impact of their material and system selection. 1 l CV K. El-Dash

Architectural Practice

Architect/Architectural Technologist (ACIAT) Environmental Analyst (MArch) SAP & EPC assessor (Elmhurst) ZEDfactory is an award winning architectural practice which focuses on energy efficiency and zero carbon design. It is a unique practice where we do everything, from ‘off-theshelf products’, concepts all the way through to construction. Our designs focus on building performance through a holistic approach to sustainability, including the specification of highly insulated thermal envelope, the use of natural building materials and attention to detailing to ensure low levels of air tightness and minimize cold bridges; mechanical systems are carefully selected to complement the fabric first approach, thus ensuring energy efficient, long-lasting and comfortable buildings. In addition to the design and detailing aspects of construction I also do the SAPs and EPCs for all residential schemes we are currently working on.

Crossgar, N.Ireland Acoustic & Thermal product and service provider

position:

Building energy assessor CfSH assessor

Within the energy side of the business, I produced SAP assessments and also generated EPCs when required. I also did the companies first ‘Code for Sustainable homes’ assessment: The library site in Templepatrick, N. Ireland (Level 4). We also did air tightness testing for domestic and commercial buildings. I organized the tests and made the necessary calculations so that the engineers could complete them. I then processed the figures to generate the certificates. On the acoustic side, we supplied products to reduce reverberation, attenuate impact and airborne noise for newly built schemes, refurbishment and conversions. I advised clients on the difficulties of successfully attenuating noise as well as quantifying the necessary tests for Code for Sustainable Homes compliance and Building control. projects:

Mainly, I compiled information necessary to allow for the Eco-homes certification for the company’s developments. This included constant contact and negotiation with the surveying department to ensure materials were adequately sourced and appropriate specification was kept.
