House Rules In addition to the School Community Code, the following rules are specific to Summerhill, or are a reiteration of school rules that are particularly important. Behaviour •

Pupils are expected to behave with good sense, good manners and good will at all times.

Friendliness, helpfulness and sensitivity to others is expected of all pupils.

The House is expected to co-operate with the prefects and staff as they carry out their duties.

Pupils are expected to treat the House belongings / furniture / staff and each other with respect.

Boarders own snacks and food are for the boarders only.

All rubbish should be placed in the recycling bins provided.

Guests •

Pupils from all Houses are welcome in the Summerhill Common Room but they must be invited to visit by a member of the House. Their host is responsible for their good behaviour and they must be signed ‘in and out’, in the visitors book by the entrance. Each Summerhill pupil is only allowed up to one guest.

All are welcome in Summerhill and the host should introduce their guest to the member of staff on duty, on arrival.

Parents / Guardians / Family members / Staff and Estate Staff / all visitors should be introduced to House staff on arrival and you must sign them in the visitors book. No visitors are allowed in the communal areas or bedrooms. (Except to help with carrying luggage at the start and end of terms only).

DO NOT ALLOW unauthorised visitors into the House – you must check who they are and ask them to wait outside until you have come and found a member of staff. Parents should not be left alone in the House – you must supervise them or if you need to go to your room, inform the member of staff on duty.

A person who is not part of the Kingswood community can only enter the House with prior permission from the Senior Houseparent. On arrival to the School, they should first sign in at the Main School Reception, to obtain an identity card.

All visitors, must ‘sign in’ in the Visitors book. The toilet must be checked its clear before visitors can use it.

Only boarders are allowed in the bedrooms – boarders must not take day pupils into their rooms and day pupils are not allowed to go into rooms to ‘get things’ for boarders.

Registration / signing out at end of the day •

Pupils are expected to be punctual to registrations.

All pupils are expected to sign out at 5.30pm in the Summerhill Office, unless there has been written consent from Parents / Guardians to leave early.

Pupils should turn up to prep at 6.25pm, ready for a prompt start at 6.30pm, in the DT centre for Years 9 – 11 and the Dixon for Sixth Form.

Pupils work silently and without disturbing others. Mobiles are not allowed to be used during prep.

After prep, if a pupil is unable to make registration at 8.35pm, then they need to let the member of staff duty know prior to the start of prep.

Access to the House during the day •
