Welcome to Transcon’s 5th Annual Next Step Bull Sale! Thorsby Stockyards is our host location. This awesome central Alberta auction market is operated by Jeff, Corey, Chance, and Amanda. It’s a great place to buy your bulls and sell your calves!

When I first started this sale, there were many skeptics who told me that a bull sale wouldn’t work in Thorsby. They were proved wrong and it has grown to a 60 head sale, creating a great market for this group of breeders. This has been a highlight sale with bulls regularly selling across Canada and into the U.S. with a loyal local following Nolara Farms and Gilchrist Genetics have produced their best collection of bulls yet! Sara and Ryan did a wonderful job this year bringing the bulls along. Larry is sure to be extremely grateful for their efforts. I viewed the bulls in January and found them to be very soggy, thick, and impressive. These two sets of bulls, located at Sara and Ryans place, are definitely worth stopping by for a look. They have a great variety of types and colours with power and calving ease from which to choose.

Langer Fleckvieh Simmentals is very well known for raising genetically impressive Fleckvieh cattle. Lyle and Pam blend polled and horned genetics to create the most balanced beef bulls possible. There is a high emphasis on birth weight and calving ease. You will see that there isn’t a bull over 100 lbs. at birth, as well as all of them being born unassisted. While it takes a lot of commitment, it will leave them with a truly amazing pen of steers in the Fall. At the same time, it leaves the type of bulls in their bull pen that their customers are looking for. You definitely can’t miss the cherry red ring eyed Velocity son that leads their pen!

Diamond B Simmentals has another impressive group of bulls this year led by Sun Rise Pillar sons. If you are looking for bulls with some frame that push down the scale, then the Pillars are for you; they are impressive! If it’s a calving ease bull you are after, then prepare to be impressed by Kasper 39K. He is soggy and hairy with a great set of numbers. Barry and Cindy do a great job producing cattle with that extra length of spine and growth.

Century Simmentals joined Next Step last year and led the way by selling their lead off bull to Virginia Ranch. It was a great start to what should be a very productive career for Jesse in the purebred business. Jesse also has a commercial cowherd, and he really understands the type of cattle that makes you money in the beef business.

Kreo’s herd at KZ Simmentals is still growing and while you won’t see big numbers quite yet, the quality is impressive. It’s a solid set of bulls led by Paramount 104K who is a stout, big topped, heavy muscled, blackblaze faced bull. This one will definitely stir up some interest on sale day. Kreo has a great understanding of the cattle industry and along with his dad, they run an amazing herd of commercial cows. Year-after-year, they sell one of the top sets of Simmental calves in Alberta.

This year, RDG Simmentals definitely have the strongest set of bulls they have ever brought to town. Ryan has a nice set of honest Fleck bulls that are very sound, and these bulls will definitely last you many years. Ryan is extremely easy to work with so make sure that you make an effort to visit him at the sale.

B. Bulls will be delivered free of charge within 250kms of Thorsby as soon as possible after the sale, at the breeder’s convenience. Over 250kms will be arranged at cost.

C. Bulls will be kept at the seller’s farm at no charge until April 1, 2023. After April 1, delivery will be arranged suitable to both the seller and purchaser. All bulls returning to the seller’s farms must be insured.

Welcome to the 5th annual Next Step Bull Sale! We are very excited to once again be a part of this great sale!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who showed interest, bid on, and purchased bulls last year. We would also like to extend a thank you to everyone who supported our 2nd annual Gilchrist Genetic Gems Female Sale; we hope to host this sale every fall. Your confidence in our program is truly humbling!

We run roughly 80 momma cows, purebred Simmentals and commercial herd primarily Simmental x Angus based. We AI all our cows, both purebred and commercial, on their first cycle to add genetic diversity to our herd. You will find in our offering bulls by industry leading AI sires as well as a few from our own walking herd bulls.

When calving season hits, all our cows go through the barn. This allows us to ensure each calf ingests colostrum in a timely manner. All calves are weighed at 24hrs old with a full tummy of milk! We also administer inforce 3 and calfguard at birth.  At pasture turn out and weaning, calves received Bovishield Gold One Shot, Femicon 7/ Ultrabac 8, and ivermectin.

Our bulls have been developed on silage, hay and a bull pellet acquired from Bullseye Feeds. Our bulls are selected for good feet, temperament and phenotypically appealing traits. All bulls were frame scored and genetically tested for polled and coat color; results are listed in our footnotes.

Like Lenny Kravitz this guy has got shag!! 42K is an embryo out of our red donor cow, Skors Reese 101Z who is a CNS Dream On daughter. His sire Spring Creek Liner 56U needs no introduction as he has been very influential in the Simmental breed. This mating worked very well in both the bulls and females respectively. 42K is a long, stout made bull with a big top and a square hip. He is a free moving, smooth striding bull with excellent feet.

She is a maternal

sister to Spring Creek Lotto 52Y, a bull we think highly of, so it was a no brainer to add 25B to the herd. Kootenay is sired by their walking sire, Rendezvous Paramount, a moderate, stout, heavy muscled sire with loads of dimension. Kootenay is an attractive patterned bull with good muscle shape and a level top. Even though he is our youngest bull on offer, he does exhibit good growth and performance similar to his older pen mates.

Unique & outcross for most red pedigrees! Kentucky has been one of the pen favourites from the beginning. Kentucky is sired by the industry changer Spring Creek Liner 56U and his mother is a big bodied, broody made, black NLC Superior daughter we acquired from Skor Simmentals dispersal. He is unique in the fact that he is red out of two black parents and to our knowledge we have not seen a red offspring out of a Superior daughter. Kentucky is a more moderate framed yet a heavy muscled bull that has both good width from behind and expression of quarter from a side profile. He follows that with excellent spring of rib and width of chest.

Fifty K is a red son of one of our past walking sires, TLSS Avenger. Avenger makes beautiful uddered females that know how to produce! His dam, Skor Ms Indiana  406A, was purchased out of Skor Simmentals dispersal a few years back. She is a big bodied easy fleshing cow that has produced consistently for us. Fifty K is a soft made, big bodied bull that displays a nice made shoulder and refined skull. He carries an ample amount of muscle shape and definition to top it off.

Welcome to the 5th Annual Next Step Bull Sale. It’s nice to see the cattle market end on a pretty high note last year and we are hoping for another strong year for everyone. Certainly, the Simmental sales have been strong, and commercial sales were also strong last year.

Thank-you to all of our previous buyers and bidders in support of our breeding program. Here at Nolara Farms, we strive to maintain a herd of cows with good temperament, good feet, and strong maternal traits. We currently have 100 purebred and fullblood Simmentals and a commercial herd of 140 Simmental with some Angus cross.

We are excited to bring you this year’s offerings! Our bulls are developed at Gilchrist Genetics on silage, hay, and a bull pellet from Bullseye Feeds. All our bulls are frame scored and are coat color tested. Polled bulls were tested for homo-polled traits. Please see the footnotes for the results. There are a variety of genetics on offer and we hope you are able to choose one to fit your needs.

Kongo is the second bull on offer out of Kuntz HotShot. This is the first year HotShot’s progeny are being offered and we are excited with the impact he will have on our herd. He makes them stout and the kind you want a whole herd of! His mother, 11G, is a tan cow out of Kuntz Congo and seems to have the yellow gene in her. Sired by our senior red herdsire, Black Gold Lawmaker that we purchased from the Noble family. Black Gold Lawmaker is the result of an ET, sired by KWA Lawmaker and mothered by RF Certainly Flirtin. A few years back we mixed things up a little and incorporated about 30 cows into a fall calving program so along with our yearling bulls there will be a few off-age bulls as well. This year we have brought what we believe are a great set of bulls, all coming from well-structured females with good feet and nice udders. These boys are the ones who made it through a strict but simple culling process:

• Calves over 100 pound birth weight are culled • Calves that need assistance during birth are culled • Structural correctness, feet and temperament are all monitored closely and culled out

All the bulls are on a full herd health program and have their Foot Rot Vaccine. Another extremely handsome heifer bull prospect. Dark cherry red, stout, thick, good length, small head with a low birther weight out of a first calf heifer. Welcome to the Fifth edition of the Next Step bull sale! Thank you to last years buyers and bidders that make this sale a success. Thank you to Thorsby Stockyards, whether it’s hosting the bull sale or marketing cattle the team at Thorsby does an outstanding job. It’s an exciting time to be in the cattle industry as we are seeing record high prices. As I sat in Thorsby Auction mart in the fall to watch my commercial calves sell, I noticed a demand bigger framed heavy calves. There was considerably more profit in the heavy calves, more pounds more profit! To me pounds start at birth those longer, heavier calves seem to always wean off heavier. Length is not factored into birthweight of a calf or EPDs but it really should be this comparison will show you why. Let’s say you have 2 calves one is 38 inches and weighs 94lbs, the other one is 44” and weighs 106lbs. The added length of spine adds lbs, an extra 6” of body could easy add 10lbs or more. Its no different in people how much heavier is someone who is 6’6” compared to someone 6’? Maybe its time to try a bull with added length and a little more frame in your herd. This year’s offering of bulls have a little more pounds at birth but can offer you a lot more pounds when you sell their calves. Like I said before, more pounds more profit!

Two sale bulls are sons out of the our resident herd sire Century Hammer, a Anchor D Raptor son out of a STU 46C. South Seven Miss Top 46C is the cow that started Century Simmentals, Rob Stuart (South Seven Farms) convinced me to buy a registered heifer(it didn’t take much convincing)! 46C is also the grandam to the high selling bull in last years

Next Step going to Virginia Ranch for $18,500. Last spring, I flushed 46C the resulting embryo calves are looking very impressive already at a young age, watch for them in next years sale! At a young age I could tell Hammer was going to be a special, his growth was exceptional weaning at 1050lbs NO creep! Hammer is as long as a freight train, with exceptional depth, big boned with a large foot and gentle demeanor. These traits are passed along to his calves. From the bull calves, an impressive set of heifers in the replacement pen as well as our heaviest commercial steers that went through the Thorsby Stockyards last fall.

Bulls are raised without creep, I feel this gives you a better idea how the bulls will perform. After weaning bulls are pail fed Country Junction pellets as well as free choice grass hay. Herd Health bulls are given Express FP5 and Vision 8 with somnus in spring and boosted in late fall with Express FP5 and Vision 8 as well as fall and winter applications of Bimectin Pour on.

Non Diluter When picking what sires to use on a cow I look at how could I make her better or what would complement that cow. 32G is a red moderate tanky female out of a black blaze cow, mated to Mo Better a longer framed white face bull was an intriguing combination. The result turned out to be this stout, eye catching black blaze faced bull that was almost as tall and heavy as his mother at weaning with a weight of 1040lbs without creep feed! Non Diluter Here is a looooooooooooonng bull! After Kilimanjaro was born I told people I’ll bet this bull is almost 4 feet long! Kilamanjaro’s mother 17X had a full sister early January, I actually did measure her from nose to tail at 44”! Now that’s a long calf! Now before you write him off because of his birthweight just think about the comparison I made earlier in my introduction coupled with the fact that he has a smaller head and smooth shoulders, his calves will be born easily. Justice is a big middled, long spined Hammer son out of a large framed Hexagon cow. I am really impressed with the bone structure and foot of these Hammer calves. Cattle frame size has gotten smaller over the years, I think there will be a higher demand for some more frame and heavier cattle in the future. Here is a bull that would really complement some smaller cattle by adding some length and frame, also the added bonus he’s scur/polled. Benson comes from Black Gold Adonis 95G, a bull we bought from Black Gold a few years ago. The last two years 95G has been mainly used in the heifer pen as he has calved easily and produced highly vigorous calves. With a low birthweight, smooth shouldered build and narrow head I feel Benson also has the potential to be used on heifers. He will just be shy of 13 months old around sale time so take that into consideration during your evaluation.

Transcon Livestock Corp and/or the Auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made proper credit clearance prior to the sale with the owner or Sale Managers.

BID No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted.

SALES TAXES Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos, and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller.

DISPUTES In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time.

INSURANCE Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser at the time of sale and should be insured. Animals returning to the seller’s farm must be insured.

US BUYERS There is an additional charge (approximately $300.00 US dollars) that will be applied to each animal purchased. This covers documentation, vet inspections/testing required to export. This cost does not include transportation or brokerage which is the responsibility of the buyer.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY A registration/recordation certificate issued by the applicable breed association and duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after settlement has been made. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine the acceptance of this certificate in any other association.

SHIPPING Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Sales Management or Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement.

BREEDERS GUARANTEE As per applicable Canadian Breed Association Breeding Guarantee guidelines. Copies are available at the sale settlement desk to be picked up by the buyer at any time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

HEALTH It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Transcon Livestock Corp. assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale.

EMBRYO & SEMEN Full settlement must be made before release is done and shipping arrangements should be done within 30 days of the sale unless arrangements made between buyer and seller prior to the sale. Shipping arrangements and costs are the expense of the purchaser once release has been given.

ACCIDENTS Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer, consignors, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

IS AGENT ONLY It is to be clearly understood that Transcon Livestock Corp. is only acting as a medium between buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligations. Neither does Transcon Livestock Corp. assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties. Any legal action that may be taken, in exceptional cases, must be between buyer and seller.
