“One stop shopping”, “the Best of Both Worlds (or in this case, four worlds)”, etc., have all been used over the years to promote bull sales that offer multiple breeds of bulls available. Well, to use another cliche’, if the shoe fits, wear it! But to add to the basic fact that the Red County Sale has diversification amongst its offering, is the quality that is presented that is most probably better than what traditional sales did. We have personally screened and then invited each and every one of these breeders to be included, geographically, versus people just sending random entries in. They all understand that to be a part of this sale, that bulls aren’t sold ahead of time, but as many of the best bulls they can make annually all come here.

Representing the Polled Hereford section, now for many years, once again we are very pleased to have the Bricker’s Chestermere program bring what could arguably be their best set of bulls ever! It’s always interesting to view these bulls, seeing their solid quality which leads to an understanding of how they tie together in a true breeding program. Shouldn’t be a surprise, the herd has been developed for decades & decades through a successful multi-generational family commitment.

Pieschel Farms, from the time they have become our Angus section reps, have complimented the sale in a huge way, both with the high caliber bulls they bring to sell but also their wonderful demeanour as people and good stockmen. Breed for breed, quality for quality, the Pieschel bulls are serious herd improvers for anyone!

We initiated the Charolais division to the Red Deer County Sale last year, mostly because of the great find in Eagle Valley Farms whom accepted our invitation. This is a leading edge program of modern day genetics, that is very methodically bred for a purpose - QUALITY! In their freshman appearance last year, the EVF bulls sold to several reputable cattlemen. I predict that the sooner you buy an EVF bull, the better the value as the reputation will reflect the price in the years to come.

Simmental was the original breed to the sale, as many of you know. But also an original to the sale is the long running program of Oh Kay Farms, the Lougheed family. Three generations of family, with the 4th now riding in the “buddy seat”, operate this reputable herd. There is a solid list of repeat buyers that follow these bulls on an annual basis mostly because of the known performance and pounds the Oh Kay bulls bring to the payweight of a fall cheque!

Red Top Livestock has rapidly built a hugely credible reputation for their product, not by accident, as a very methodical thought processes on cattle type and genetics has been used, combined with very well thought out investments on EXCELLENT herdsires! This years group will feature a hell of group of sons by Roosevelt. But… just because the herd name is Red Top, DO NOT miss checking out the scale crushing black baldy within!

The Applecross program is a a wisely maternal developed herd, with great depths of cow family significance, particularly relative to the well respected Dora Lee herd. The Smalls are wonderful people to work with that can probably be given credit as

pioneers of Polled Fleckvieh cattle. They astutely understand the value of quality “on premise” herdbulls to mate with these deep cow families. This relates to a true breeding program, not just another multiplier. The Applecross string offers tanto-red coloured bulls and probably eliminates de-horning of Fullblood Simmental sired calves, regardless of your cows.

The Keato Meadows bulls are also Fullblood Fleckvieh cattle with a focus on building them with polled heads, but not giving up performance. Keato Meadows has not only “lead-off” but topped the sale more than once. These bulls often come with a bit of extra age too, for a breeding advantage, plus all the other genetic attributes. This is a good young family that have a passion for genetics.

Double Q Simmentals, not only come in their sophomore appearance at the Red Deer County Sale with their unique alphabet name, but have two heavy-haired bulls that are really long bodied and are both sired by their resident herdsire. With four young kids on the “payroll” helping Mom do chores every day, you know these bulls are bombproof!

We welcome a very nice young man from the Wild West of Little Dodge City, aka, Caroline, Alberta in Jayden Warren with his J Bar outfit. He’s raised in cow country with good cattlemen and has a passion for Simmental cattle. This 16 year old rancher has a bright future with his honesty towards his own views of his own cattle, which is a very healthy start. 2022 was a year we will never forget, it was such a humbling feeling at the bull sale last March to see so much interest in our bulls, even more humbling to see that 75% of our bulls sold were to repeat customers. Thank you so much to everyone that has trusted our program and continue to come back for more. The confidence we have been given from our customers has promted us to increase our numbers. The goal is to continue to bring back a few more bulls each year with the same quality and type we like and what our customers are looking and ask for. In October we welcomed our baby girl Peyson, more reason for us to strive harder on producing a high quality herd that will last into the future.

Once again we have a great offer of heifer and performance bulls. We don’t creep feed, all bulls stay on pasture with their dams until weaning September long weekend when they are then introduced to a super oats feed ration and free choice hay. All bulls are docile and halter broke. We promote our cattle at shows each fall and probably the proudest moment has been that we were able to showcase our home raised bull PF Hendrix 8H who succeeded in the show ring for the past 3 years and now see his calves highlight our bull line up this year. Along with Hendrix we use herd sires that are proven, have good feet, deep middles, big tops, longevity and performance.

Heifer Bull 66K, exactly what we would expect out of our Cheetah 15X cow, a low birthweight with big performance. The youngest bull on offering this March calf already looks mature. He has big testicular development, a thick top, good foot and nice hair coat. 66K had an actual birthweight of 80lbs, he has a calving ease EPD of +8. Would make an excellent heifer bull. 15X bull calves have lead off our bull sale offering every year to date.

The biggest performing bull in the pen this year, 3K has always tipped the scale weaning off at 995lbs in September and weighing 1315lbs the start of January. 3K is attractive in his making, wide topped, thick, good footed and docile. Homo Polled Pendleton is a definite sale feature for us this year, a son of the $125,000.00 High Selling SVY Trust and out of my favorite cow in the herd, our donor cow PCC 937G. Pendleton is the type I had always dreamt of raising, the showy attractive look, yet performance, style and just checks a whole lot of boxes. He’s great on the move, good footed and backed by an elite pedigree. We flushed 937G to Trust and she gave us six embryos and they all stuck, 5 bull calves that will highlight the bull sale this year and a stunning daughter. We took Pendleton and his full sister EVF Faye to Red Deer to showcase them and they made a lot of friends and received a lot of great comments over the weekend. Faye sold in the Alberta Charolais Select sale to High Country Cattle, The Young Family. We are very high on this guy and would like to reserve the right to use in herd semen in our herd.

Homo Polled Swanson is another one of these real good full brothers. I made the trip out to Saskatoon to look at SVY Trust and watched the sale, I still have pictures and videos of Trust from that day that I took just before he sold for a commanding $125,000. Trust looked incredible and being there in the sale barn was a very cool experience. I am very thankful to be able to get in on a semen pack on Trust as he’s going to have a long-lasting effect on my herd.

He’s sired by EVF Iginla, a bull we raised out of a package of embryos we bought from Jaydawn Farms out of their top Fairytale cow and Lanza. On the bottom side is Gerrard Starstruck 11C, a donor cow that produces good haired and easy fleshing progeny. We wanted to stack the pedigree with strong cow families top and bottom and this is the result. An easy moving, moderate framed stud. He has that herd bull look and will sire some top weaning calves in the fall.

Homo Polled Here’s a long bodied, heavy haired powerhouse out of a heavy milking Montezuma daughter that cranks out heavy weaning calves every year. Last year she raised a half brother that was the heavyweight of the bull pen that sold to Rick Martin. Kentucky’s sire is a bull that I was able to buy a semen pack on, he was a favorite of ours when we saw him at Farmfair a few years back and his mother PCC 407B is very well known for creating great ones.

Hetero Polled Stetson is the youngest bull in the offering, maybe the longest bull in the pen and is packed full of performance and style. He’s out of a big power cow that milks heavy. She was one of the very first Charolais females I had bought, coming from P&H Ranching. EVF Iginla 12G is a Lanza son we raised and sold to Paul Gleeson, he was the first bull we ever sold, and we kept some semen to use in our own herd. He did a great job out at Paul’s, moderate birthweights, good vigour and weaning weights were exceptional.

This year, we are very pleased with the quality of bulls we have on offer. We feel we have some of the best yearling bulls we have offered at sale to date and are looking forward to being able to show them off.

As is our tradition, we are featuring sons of our home-raised bulls, with the addition of a few sired by prominent industry AI sires.

Over the summer, our bull calves and their mothers run on native pasture and then fall-grazed on our hay fields until weaning. The bull calves were weaned a bit early this year in mid October. From there, they have been reared over the winter on a strictly oat and hay ration in a five acre field where they can get plenty of exercise.

We make extensive use of performance and measurement tools in our herd, and now have over 60 continuous years of individual animal and herd performance records. Over the past few years, we have made extensive uses of genomics and ultrasound. In addition, we score and record a range of objective production traits. One trait that we have been tracking is calf vigor. For our home-raised bulls, we have selected those that we scored with above average vigor at calving, and we are seeing a significant improvements in the resulting calves they sire.

We have noted the bulls in this year’s offering that scored above average for vigor. All the bulls in the offering this year are Homozygous Polled. Kingsley may just be the best we have raised. He takes after his sire, Forward 7G - he is thick-made curve-bender with a modest birth weight, extra vigor at birth, and explosive growth. On the maternal side, he is the result of combining two of our top cow families. Upscale’s mother, Brittany 20C, is our lead donor cow and Kingsley’s mother is a maternal sister to Upscale 35H. Nice set of balanced EPD’s with growth EPD’s in the top 10%. He is proud-made, easy moving, great feet and legs, short-marked redneck and has full eye pigment around his left eye. We have retained both his maternal sisters in our herd. Forward 7G’s daughters have done very well at fall shows for Alta Cedar and ourselves, and his first daughters will have calved-out by sale time. Retaining an in-herd semen interest.

Patterned and marked just like his $100,000 sire, Genesis, and out of Brittany 20C. We feel Sovereign is a top herd sire prospect. A full flush sister to Sovereign showed successfully at the Western National show this past November. His weaning and yearling growth EPD is in the top 5% and carcass traits in the top 10% for Herefords. Darkmade, short-marked with full eye pigment, and extra vigor at birth. Genesis semen has been extremely limited in Canada. And, Sovereign 48K and Geneseeker 47K are to likely be the only Genesis sons that will sell this spring.

Geneseeker will not be quite a year old by sale time, but he sure doesn’t want for performance with an adjusted yearling weaning weight of 840lbs and yearling weight of 1,438lbs. We really appreciate him for his depth of rib, easy-doing constitution, with excellent feet and legs. Flush-brother to Sovereign 48K, sired by Genesis, and out of Brittany 20C. Geneseeker has the makings of top herd bull for his new owners. His weaning and yearling growth and carcass EPD’s are all in the top 5% for Herefords. He has one of those deep, curly haircoats, is short-marked with full pigment around his left eye. As with Sovereign 48K, Geneseeker 47K is likely be one of the only two Genesis sons that will sell this spring.

Riteway should make an excellent heifer bull, and go on to make a solid main herd bull.

Twin to John Carter 9K, Juggernaut was raised as a single calf on his own mother. If you want to put some extra growth and frame into you calves, he is a good candidate. Easy-moving, great feet and legs, lots of depth, and a great hip. Juggernaut was one of those calves with extra vigor at birth. He has an excellent haircoat, short marked redneck, and is pigmented around his right eye. Juggernaut ’s EPD’s for weaning growth are in the top 10% and Rib Eye EPD is in the top 15% of the breed. Sired by Upscale 35H and out of Rose 32F. 32F is a larger-framed, short-marked, well pigmented cow with an excellent udder. She is one of the two highly productive daughters of Woodford 1D, who was high selling two-year old going to Wascana Land and Cattle in the 2018 sale and is now working in the Copper T Ranch in BC. She is also a maternal sister to CHSF 32E Rancher 23H, who was our high seller in 2021 to Lisa Titford. A maternal brother to Juggernaut also sold to Gordon Leslie in 2021.

Kalvin is a lighter birthweight bull from a first-calver and out of Rewind. We used Rewind on a few of our heifers for his outcross genetics and low birth weight record. Kalvin was the only bull calf we got, but we did retain all three of his half-sisters. Kalvin is smooth-made, well-tempered, medium-colored and rednecked. His birth weight EPD is in the top 10%, and rib eye are in the top 5% of the breed. His mother, Brittany 31H, is a maternal sister to Forward 7G, Geneseeker 47K, and Sovereign 48K, and was at side when we decided to flush her mother, Brittany 20C. We feel Kalvin should make an excellent bull for heifers and to produce females.

Kathmandu 49K is out of a first-calver from the Beauty cow family. An easy-moving, middle of March-born calf, he is beginning to fill out with a big hip and depth of body. Kathmandu’s EPD’s for weaning growth are in the top 5% and Rib Eye EPD is in the top 15% of the breed. He is moderately-marked with full eye pigment. Sired by

a beautiful young cow from the Beauty cow family, he should sire highly maternal daughters.

Homozygous Polled Maxim has been a bit of a favorite at the farm since he was a calf. He is a bit of a curve-bender with calving ease and growth. A bull with volume and thickness, but with style, great feet, nice disposition, and plenty of hair. His mother is a well-balanced, moderate daughter of Red Summit, and sired by the popular bull WS Epic E152. Maxim’s EPD are a nice balance with birth and calving ease scores in the top 15%, while his weaning and yearling weight scores are within the to 10% and 4% respectively.

TERMS The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, e-transfer, or wire and are due at the time of sale, unless other arrangements have been made between buyer and seller prior to the sale. Transcon reserves the right to charge interest at a rate of 2% per month on overdue accounts. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for their purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. Transcon Livestock Corp and/or the Auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made proper credit clearance prior to the sale with the owner or Sale Managers.

BID No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted.

SALES TAXES Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos, and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller.

DISPUTES In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time.

INSURANCE Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser at the time of sale and should be insured. Animals returning to the seller’s farm must be insured.

US BUYERS There is an additional charge (approximately $300.00 US dollars) that will be applied to each animal purchased. This covers documentation, vet inspections/testing required to export. This cost does not include transportation or brokerage which is the responsibility of the buyer.

BREEDERS GUARANTEE As per applicable Canadian Breed Association Breeding Guarantee guidelines. Copies are available at the sale settlement desk to be picked up by the buyer at any time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

HEALTH It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Transcon Livestock Corp. assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale.

EMBRYO & SEMEN Full settlement must be made before release is done and shipping arrangements should be done within 30 days of the sale unless arrangements made between buyer and seller prior to the sale. Shipping arrangements and costs are the expense of the purchaser once release has been given.

Welcome to the Red Deer County Bull Sale! We would like to thank everyone that has shown interest and supported our program. The main sire group of our bull pen in out of of KWA Roosevelt sons. As I start to sound like a broke record in the comments, he has added what he was selected for which is square level hip, dark color, extra hair, length of spine and some a stretch. We have a few highlight SVS Tycoon sons and of course our offering would not be complete without some Skor Bootlegger sons.

With the replacement pen being bigger than normal and the pastures not magically growing it once again we will be offering a select group of heifers. There are 3 Roosevelt daughters, 3 AI sire heifers and one embryo off our power donor IPU 61C in the group. After having Roosevelt daughters now producing in our program the last couple years his highly maternal pedigree is shining through and you cant go wrong adding them into your herd.

This spring we lost Red Top Fireball. Welcome to the 2023 Red Deer County Bull Sale!  Now in our thirteenth year at this event, we truly enjoy being included with such a progressive group of breeders, with a consistent offering of bulls that fit a diverse group of needs. The goal of our purebred program is to produce bulls with moderate birth weights that incorporate polled genetics, while stacking strong maternal lines, performance and the mothering ability the Simmental breed is known for.  The bulls are wintered in a 5-acre paddock to ensure lots of exercise, and have been developed on a ration of free-choice quality first cut hay, combined with a forage-based pellet from Country Junction. All seven bulls are quiet and are used to having people move around them.  We continue to focus our development program on assessing weaning performance based on mother’s milk, and only utilize a limited amount of creep feeding as part of the bulls transition program.

Dilutor Free.   We start this years offering with a pair of Electric Avenue sons.  During our travels and pasture tours over the past few years,  the Electric Avenue progeny have all seemed to jump to the front of the group, so we stepped out and acquired a semen pack so we could add him to own genetic base.  We have not been disappointed.  Edison represents the heavyweight of our 2023 bull string, and is a very nicely shaped specimen.  As the only horned bull in our offering, he is backed by a tremendous cow family.  His dam, Applecross Isabelle, is fresh off producing our high selling bred heifer at Equation 2022 and showcases a ton of potential.  A little lighter coloured, Edison still tested non-dilutor and is backed by multiple generations of proven genetics on both sides of his pedigree.    Look for Edison to ‘turn the lights on’ with his balance of a great quarter, strong top, and plenty of middle that forms a complete package.

Dilutor Free.    The uniquely patterned Elton showcases a massive hip and a balanced profile, coming from a dam who made a habit of consistently moderating birthweights.  This is the last calf from APLX Ella 12Y, who enjoyed a very long and productive career here.  Ella produced ‘Durango’ who was our high selling bull in 2019 as well ‘Emma’ our high selling heifer way back at Equation 2014, who is still working for Beechinor Land and Livestock (and has produced high sellers of her own).   Longevity is certainly built into this pedigree!  Elton is certainly no ‘candle in the wind’ as he combines this strong cow family with frame and capacity, but does ‘bling it up’ to remind everyone he’s a true Simmental bull!

APLX Blaze 18K is one of our sale features; representing the first Black Gold Battleborn son to sell.  We have been very impressed with Battleborn, who has proven himself safe to use on our heifers, while being more than ‘just’ a heifer bull.  His first two daughters were very well received at Equation 2022 - and our only ask of him in 2023 is a few more sons, as he ran very heavy to heifers on his first calf crop!   On the dam side, Blaze is from our ‘E-Line’, (and thus from the same cow family as ‘Elton’), who have done very well for us over the years, with the females showcasing tremendous longevity.  Loaded with pigment, Blaze blends plenty of get up and grow from a very moderate birth weight.  Blaze  demands attention with his unique combination of eye appeal, thickness, and a guaranteed horn remover.  With so much versatility, he will be worth a long look on sale day!

Full Fleckvieh. APLX Casino 25K is a real head turner with incredible eye appeal, a very smooth profile and a pigmentation pattern that is the envy of his pen mates.  His star headed dam,  Applecross Bianca, has been a consistent performer for us, with her son Denzel a sale feature in 2021 (and is working in Ontario for Vail View Farms), while her daughter Brienne was selected by Loralta Farms aback in 2019.   Now age 8, Bianca continues to showcase a nicely built udder and is backed by some old school Fleckvieh genetics, including Seldom, C&B Western, Broadway and King Arthur.  On the sire side, Double Bar D Confidence 179D is a bull we acquired from our good friends Stefon & Rebecca Beechinor of Beechinor Land and Livestock.  Confidence’s first daughters are now in production here and his first son, offered at Red Deer 2022, certainly made waves in ‘APLX Coach 37J’ who now splits his time between Alabama and Mississippi!  Casino is no ‘roll of the dice’ - he’s more like playing with house money!

Homozygous Polled. Full Fleckvieh. Cannon is another great example of the type of bulls Confidence has produced, with a little bit of stretch and capacity and a shoulder stamp that just says Simmental.

A grand-daughter of our foundation Dora Lee Christina cow, Cannon’s dam, Applecross Charlotte, typically gives us heifers.  Charlotte is a very moderate frame, large capacity cow with a working weight of 1500 lbs, allowing her to wean off a very high percentage of her weight each fall.   Over the years, we have retained four of her daughters, while also selling a daughter in Equation 2018 to Skywest Simmentals, a grand-daughter to Beechinor Bros. in 2019, and a grandson also sold in 2021 to Smith Simmentals.    Look for Cannon to produce a strong set of replacement females while taking care of all the horns!

Dilutor Free.  Courage is a very versatile bull that combines a moderate birthweight with plenty of performance.  His dam, Applecross Diana 57E, is one of our top young cows, with sons at Dallas Phillips at Eckville, AB and Mike Groom’s in New Brunswick.  Diana also recently produced a $12,000 daughter at Equation 2022 that sold to Jonathan & Ebony Kittlitz / Keato Meadows at Fort Sask.  Our ‘D’ female line has quickly become the largest in our herd, with small tidy square udders and plenty of milk.  It is extremely rare that we flush any of our cows, as it is our preference to keep them working naturally - but we thought highly enough of Diana to sneak a flush into her production cycle, and she didn’t miss a beat.  Courage presents numerous options, great length of spine, a slightly different polled pedigree and is backed by one of our favourite cow families!

Chevy is the youngster of this years group and has made himself part of the conversation despite his late February birth date.  He is very smooth made, has a great hair coat, and is simply a well put together bull.  This cow family has also done quite well for us over the years, with grand dam Taylor, producing Tessanne for Equation 2015, and great grand dam, HEMR Tasha, providing us with our first ever sale-topper, APLX Axel, back in 2013.  More recently Chevy’s dam, Applecross Talia, has had progeny selected for auction at both Equation 2020 (Applecross Tanis to Bonchuk Farms) and Red Deer 2021 (APLX Dillon 57G to Layden Farms).  Chevy is an intriguing younger bull sporting a little different pedigree. Despite his February 28th birth date, Chevy has continued to hold his own and showcases plenty of potential.

We pride ourselves on quiet, pail fed and productive bulls that we stand behind. Our natural herd sire, Springcreek Flash 66G, fathered this pen of bulls for us this year. Flash’s grandsire is Anchor D Viper which has helped bring size and carcass weight on both the weaning weights and yearling weights of these bulls. Coupled with moderate birth weights, he is a valued asset to our herd.

Krocket was born for the camera. He was so docile and easy to picture. Krocket’s dam is from Maxwell Simmentals and she is as long as a train. She is at the top of our list for best producing cows. Karate’s dam is from our original herd that we bought from Maxwell Simmentals. Longevity must be in their blood cause she shows no sign of slowing down. Karate’s half sister is in our herd and we are very impressed. Maternal calving ease runs in this cow family. This bull brings masculinity, a deeply muscled hind quarter, neck extension, depthness of rib, and solid feet. Karate lands in the top 10% EPD for carcass weight! He will be sure to add carcass weight to his calves.

This is a bull I am very excited to have in the sale this year. Polled, calving ease, and dark red! His dam is a deep ribbed, thick, moderate framed cow that done a great job as a first calf heifer. Kayenne is a very dark square footed bull that moves out well! With lots of calving ease, he has grown into lots of muscle definition since he was weaned.I would not be afraid to recommend Kayenne as a heifer bull in anyone’s herd with his 76 pound birth weight and smooth shoulder.

Kingston is a bull that will add width and length of spine to your calves! He has a tremendous amount of hair with picture perfect googles! His dam is a top favourite in my herd being the biggest framed and thickest cow I have to date and she sure passes it on through her calves! I purchased Kingston’s damn from Virginia ranch. His sire is making an outstanding bull with very uniform calves! So if you’re in need of a bull that is going to add width and length of spine to your calves this just might be the calf you have been waiting for.
