Galleries & open workshops

Forget about fridge magnets and postcards! Explore our many inspiring galleries and open workshops and find lovely souvenirs, created from natural materials by some of the area's most talented artists and artisans.

In The Coastal Land, there has always been a proud tradition of art, strongly inspired by the nature in the area.

The quiet trickle of the river Gudenå through the hilly countryside (Bakkelandet) also attracts many creative artists. In Voervadsbro, by the protected part of the river, you can get your hands in the clay at MolaMola workshop. Every year, you can also experience an art exhibition with works by the local artist Marie Drewes when she presents a May exhibition.

The deep green landscape of Sondrup Hills, between Odder and Horsens, housed i.a. the Danish artist Mogens Ziegler, who found the inspiration for his works in these woods. Today, ceramicist Karoline Illum lives - and creates -in one of these clearings between pines and streams, in her combined B&B and workshop.

For a real bohemian experience, visit the artists of the local islands. Be inspired by the colorful works at Galleri Mynster on Alrø and multi-artist Marie Würtz's ceramic creations at Pottemageren in the harbour town of Juelsminde.

In Horsens, just a few hundred meters from the building where artist Michael Kvium started his career as a satirist, is Gallery Hjort, which with its raw, urban, and carefully selected catalog, perfectly embraces the spirit of the former industrial city, where rough surroundings reveal a lot of beauty. Just outside the city center is the 1,700 m2 gallery ART’M, which presents a large selection of both modern art and sculptures in many styles.

No matter where and when you find yourself in The Coastal Land, you can have memorable art experiences along the way. We have many more small, cosy, and special galleries and local artists, which you can read more about at kystlandet.com.
