MESSAGE FROM THE ANNUAL FUND CHAIRS

DEAR FELLOW EAGLES, The year 2020 has been unlike any other. Now, we are deeply humbled to serve as your Stronger Together Fund chairs, and we are grateful to stand with countless others who have a profound passion for Christian education. Proverbs 22:6 tells us, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” We wholeheartedly believe that LCA is working in partnership with us to raise strong leaders with biblical convictions who will be a light for generations to come. The Stronger Together fund has a dual purpose: to keep our community together, no matter the circumstances, and to benefit LCA as a school. When we received the invitation to chair LCA’s fund-raising efforts during a pandemic, it certainly caused us to pause, as these are unprecedented times. Some families are thriving; others are facing unforeseen challenges. We prayerfully considered leading this effort, and now we are delighted to be able to support our school — and other families — into the future. To help families and staff weather the pandemic, all unrestricted donations to last year’s fund were reallocated to Tuition Assistance and Benevolence. More than $900,000 in Tuition Assistance funds was released to families who needed help keeping their children enrolled during this challenging time. How different our school would be had these funds not been available! It is tremendously important that we continue supporting one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. The Stronger Together Fund also bolsters LCA programs and initiatives. Last year’s Annual Fund, for example, made possible a Spanish library for the Lower School, new training equipment for athletes, and a variety of technology enhancements. And now we ask you, our fellow parents, to work alongside us. Today, we are asking for your contribution to the Stronger Together Fund. You may make a gift of any amount. If you are particularly enthusiastic about a specific LCA program or initiative, you may make a designated donation. The Stronger Together Fund encourages “Every Gift from Every Family Every Year.” Our goal is 100 percent participation. It is a blessing to partner with you to support God’s mission in Christian education here at Legacy. May God bless your family and may He continue to shine His face on our remarkable school. In Christ,

Erin and Brad Struck Annual Fund Chairs 2020-2021

ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020

Through it all, LCA Is Stronger Together It’s fair to say that 2020 has been a year unlike any other. In February, the phrase “social distancing” was nonexistent, but it’s now in the common vernacular. Wearing a mask was limited to medical professionals and those in other specialty fields, and now we take our masks with us everywhere we go. Despite these most unusual and challenging times, the LCA community is stronger together.

We invite you to reflect back to last spring and recognize God’s providence for our community.

March 6: Legacy faculty and staff convened for an in-service meeting, just before Spring Break, when we began to understand the threat COVID-19 could pose to oncampus learning. The coronavirus had just started to gain attention in the United States. LCA families left for Spring Break unfamiliar with the concept of “distance learning,” and little did we know that we wouldn’t get to return to campus until fall.

March 14: The school’s executive leadership team convened for an all-day meeting to develop a COVID-19 crisis management plan and distance-learning strategy.

March 19: Governor Abbott issued an executive order closing schools until at least April 3.

March 2020 March 13: Gov. Greg Abbott declared a statewide public health emergency. In light of the governor’s proclamation, many faculty returned to campus early, sacrificing their final weekend of Spring Break, to develop plans for distance learning. Mr. McGee extended Spring Break for our students by one week while our teachers worked tirelessly to ensure that learning would continue.

March 15: Two days after Governor Abbott’s declaration, Jena Snyder and Lana Snear, our counseling team, contacted families to let them know that they would continue to receive support during distance learning. The counseling team also launched a video series with resources and messages designed to encourage parents and their children.

ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020

March 31: March 25: The number of Texans filing for unemployment jumps a staggering 860 percent. Recognizing the potential impact on our families, the Legacy Board of Trustees immediately prioritized assisting and retaining our current families by redirecting all unrestricted Annual Fund donations to LCA’s Tuition Assistance program and the Benevolence program.

Shelter-in-place proclamations expanded as Governor Abbott mandated that only essential workers could continue in their jobs outside their homes. The state’s economy screeched to a halt, and millions of Americans transitioned to work from home. Our community mobilized and showed who we really are. Following Joshua 1:9, we instituted a daily prayer time at 1:09 p.m. to pray for our community, our nation, and our world. The administration, Parent Teacher Fellowship, student services, and development office reworked all events and activities to keep connections strong and rally behind our Stronger Together mantra.

April 17: Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-16, announcing that public and private school classrooms will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year. LCA was already operating within the distance-learning framework, but the governor’s announcement ensured that all Texas students would complete the year using a virtual platform.

April 30: LCA dad Bret Coe, joined by Athletic Director Cole Johnson and LCA Head Football Coach Scott Smith, challenged the LCA men to Lead God’s Way. As the COVID-19 crisis set in and the temptation was to look to our own needs, Bret asked the men to follow Christ’s example by being willing to serve others and to elevate their needs above our own.

Apr April 22: April 1:

March 27: To bring the LCA community together, Legacy hosted its first Virtual Town Hall. Board Chairman Brad Brenneman made two appeals to families as he explained the board’s vision: • If the COVID-19 pandemic has had an economic impact on your family, please apply for tuition assistance. • If your family is in a position to help those in need, please consider supporting the Annual Fund. It was a timely message, and our families responded immediately to both requests.

18

LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

The first of many events to go virtual was Eagle Mama. LCA mom Jerica Olson challenged the LCA women to Glow in the Dark, to not believe that there is only one way for us to shine, to realize that it’s up to us to spotlight ourselves. “God is constantly making His appeal to others through us. Our glow, His glory!” Jena Snyder, Director of Guidance, encouraged moms to remember that even in the midst of the pandemic, our children deserve our presence, our patience, and our perspective.

The Annual Fund is officially renamed the Stronger Together Fund, recognizing the potential long-term financial impacts of the economic shutdown. Mr. McGee reiterated the importance of drawing on our faith and our community — that we are stronger together.

ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020

May 15: Unable to host the 14th-annual TJ Tomeny Golf Classic, the proceeds from which benefit Tuition Assistance, Chief Advancement Officer Shannon Nelson and her team quickly planned a virtual auction. All members of the LCA community provided items to be bid on, ranging from Principal for the Day and honorary cheer captains at a varsity football game to an overnight stay at Beavers Bend and lunch at The Cowboys Club with Darren Woodson. The TJ Tomeny Virtual Auction was a tremendous success, raising more than $35,000 for the Stronger Together Fund. PTF also coordinated the “Love Our Seniors” week, during which every senior received treats and notes of prayer and encouragement from younger students and their families. Our Legacy community got creative and surprised them with everything from yard signs and door decorations to their favorite Sonic drink.

ril May 15: To help ensure that our families’ needs were being met, the leadership team created the Community Shepherd program: Teachers, coaches, and administrators called every LCA family and asked how the school could help. An appreciative community opened their hearts and shared tears with the Community Shepherds as they adjusted to the new normal. Perhaps most impressive of all, the Class of 2020 responded to the pandemic with resolute faith and gratitude. Despite seeing one senior tradition after another canceled or altered, they demonstrated wisdom and poise beyond their years, further inspiring the entire LCA community. Wrapping up his last year at Legacy, Ryan Schroeder created an appreciation video for our teachers, combining some 115 encouraging messages from Upper School students. Seniors Lauren Bingham, Ryan Clink, and Mitchell Smith coordinated a 22-part devotional series, showing their love of the Lord and their optimism despite the circumstances. Initially intended for students, their messages resonated with parents and faculty as well.

May May 22: A graduation unlike any other. LCA was one of the first educational institutions in the state of Texas to hold an in-person graduation ceremony. Our 91 seniors delighted in the opportunity to come together one final time as the Class of 2020, at Toyota Stadium in downtown Frisco. Though they maintained the required six feet of physical distance, that didn’t stop them from together turning their tassels and excitedly tossing their mortarboards high into the air. The ceremony culminated with celebratory fireworks, an unexpected yet marvelous surprise for the graduates and their families.

As the school year drew to a virtual close and questions surrounded the possibilities for the 2020–21 academic year, one thing was crystal clear: We are more than buildings and classrooms, we are more than arts and athletic facilities. We are a tight-knit community bonded by our love for the Lord and our care, compassion, and respect for one another. We are a community undeniably Stronger Together.

“The LCA Tuition Assistance program has blessed my family tremendously during this time of a worldwide epidemic. My son came to me one day two years ago and told me he wanted to go to LCA, but because of my income, I wasn’t sure how I was going to afford it. I’m a single mom raising three boys, so it was going to be a huge expense and I didn’t know where the money would come from. This was not the response my son had hoped for, but he understood. As he approached his senior year, my son approached me with the same request, and knowing and witnessing these past two years of him hitting a rough point in his life while he attended public school, I thought to myself, ‘What would it hurt just to visit LCA and get more information about it?’ So, during this pandemic period, we did a walk-through and gathered enough information from Mr. Mosley that we felt confident that although we had very little income, there’s nothing that a prayer and God won’t do! So we went home, applied, and manifested on the financial assistance we applied for. Then, about two weeks later, my son was accepted and was awarded an amount that only God can make happen!”

“My son is now attending a school he feels great about, a school where he feels connected, a school that God Himself has led him to, a school where he can evolve! I thank God for this blessing and the people who helped us during the whole process. LCA is awesome and heaven sent, and I can’t thank the school enough. God is truly amazing! Thank you, LCA Tuition Assistance!”

Christmas Blessing “When the LCA community is already so generous all the time, not just at Christmas, the Christmas Blessing is so far above and beyond expectations that it’s simply hard to comprehend. I can’t say thank you enough!”

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT Benevolence Almost two years ago, a generous member of our community who asked to remain anonymous gave a substantial gift designated for faculty/staff development and benevolence. This donation became the seed money for a restricted fund that has enabled LCA to help several employees who experienced financial hardship due to unforeseen medical expenses, home or auto repairs, and other emergencies.

Spanish Immersion Library More than 400 books and growing! With the addition of the Spanish Immersion Program came the need for books in Spanish. The Lower School Library now offers a wide array of them for our young learners to stay fully immersed in their new language.

“I’m so blessed to be a part of a community of people who support the worthy servants who use their knowledge, skills, and talents to provide an outstanding Christ-centered education for your children. On behalf of a grateful faculty and staff, thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ by demonstrating the grace of giving (2 Corinthians 8:7).” —Bill McGee, Head of School

PLANT Digital Whiteboard in Library Students patronizing the Lower School Library are enamored of the new interactive whiteboard. Like a giant touchscreen, the board provides the opportunity for students to engage with technology, databases, and books in new ways. The gift of the board set a trend for similar technology to be added to several classrooms.

Sprint Trainer Cole Eisenmann working out with one of two new sprint trainers. Sprint trainers are an extension of the weight room and are great for the overall development of an athlete as they improve core, quad & hamstring strength while honing speed and flexibility. Head Football Coach Scott Smith says, “We are particularly grateful for these two pieces of equipment, especially during this time when we can’t get in the weight room.”

A LEGACY OF

Service: TRACY TODD By Sam Martin ’07 If you’re new to the Legacy community, you may not know the name Tracy Todd, but you certainly benefit from her years of service and the indelible impact she has had on this institution.

Let’s meet her now. The Todds were one of the first families to enroll at Legacy, and at least one of their three sons attended LCA from the inaugural 1999 school year until 2020. “When we began Legacy Christian Academy, there were myriad tasks that needed to be done in a short amount of time,” says founder and former Head of School Jody Capehart. “Tracy Todd came in with that beautiful smile and ‘can-do’ spirit and asked, ‘How can I help? I’ll do whatever you need.’ Looking back, I see clearly that this was an understatement because Tracy did so much to make Legacy Christian Academy the excellent school it is today.”

she was almost entirely uncooperative when I approached her to discuss this spotlight. I first met Tracy when she and Mitch and their gaggle of young boys moved in three houses down from my parents and I became their go-to babysitter. Every time I entered their home, I was met by piles of decorations for a teacher luncheon, teacher appreciation goodies, or another project. In fact, she was so busy with her ways to bless the Legacy community that she once had me assemble centerpiece decorations for an in-service luncheon after her boys went to bed. It wasn’t just formal volunteer positions that Tracy executed flawlessly. Says Chris Harmon, Head of School from 2007 to 2016, “Tracy was a tireless champion for the school. One afternoon I received a call that a work crew at a nearby house had left a large truck in the middle of our road and was blocking the carpool lines with dismissal about to begin. By the time I made it outside to assess the situation, I discovered Tracy behind the wheel of a large dump truck trying to get it into gear and out of the way.” Mr. Harmon delightedly recalls: “That’s Tracy — she saw a problem and stepped in to fix it before anyone else even noticed it.” Tracy’s heart for service is rivaled by the

DYLLAN MULLER:

A Gentleman and a Scholar By Madi Bixler ’14 Dyllan Muller, LCA Class of 2016, says he’s been blessed with opportunities. It wasn’t always easy, but he has certainly made the most of them. Despite his achievements, though, Dyllan remains a humble young man, dedicated to his faith and to service. He was born in Roodepoort, in

In the Upper School, Mr. Branch, his AP Chemistry teacher, was instrumental in his decision to pursue a career in the field. “I’ve had the pleasure of teaching many extremely bright and motivated students,” says Mr. Branch, “but Dyllan Muller would be at the top of my list. He is the most honest and sincere young man I’ve ever met. He is extremely humble. I love his drive and his love for chemistry, both of which made him a joy to teach.” Mr. Branch worked closely with Dyllan in many class labs and his advisory group, and helped him experiment with

A GENTLEMAN AND A SCHOLAR

Dyllan went on to Tulane University, in New Orleans, because of its reputation for strong research in chemistry and chemical engineering, the availability of financial aid for international students, and its required service courses. At LCA, Dyllan had been heavily involved in the Legacy Service Organization (LSO), which is when he discovered his passion for people and giving back. In his major service project at Tulane, he helped an organization called Santosha Village create jobs for homeless individuals, and worked closely with the founder, Haiyan Khan, to craft business plans that would enable the men and women to earn a living. Academics and service were never a problem; the tough part was that having attended a private Christian school his whole life, Dyllan initially struggled to find a friend group at Tulane, recently cited as the number one party school in America. After he researched Christian ministries, he joined the Bridge College Ministry, and eventually held a leadership position in the club on campus. Like many other Christian students,

Welcome to the Board,

Mr. Johnson I’m incredibly excited to join the Board of Trustees, to serve a school that has taken such excellent care of my children for the past 13 years. —NICK JOHNSON Legacy Christian Academy is pleased to welcome Nick Johnson to the Board of Trustees. Mr. Johnson is the owner of Lakes Tennis Academy, in Frisco, which has been recognized by the USTA as one of the best private clubs and junior tennis programs in America. His devotion to tennis developed at a young age and has remained constant. After spending thousands of hours training on the court, Nick was offered a tennis scholarship to play at Oral Roberts University, in Tulsa. His excitement to play Division I tennis was quashed during his freshman year, when he was diagnosed with leukemia. Nick underwent a lifesaving bone marrow transplant at Baylor Medical Center; just 30 days later, doctors proclaimed that he

How quickly could you read a page like this? Would you want to read more? Would you dread taking a timed test or reading aloud in front of your peers? Would you feel confident in your ability to write a paper? What if every time you saw the number 8 it was actually a 3? What if any distant sound, noise, or motion fought just as hard to capture your attention as the teacher right there in the room?

These are some of the real struggles many of our students experience every day. ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, diagnosed anxiety, and diagnosed depression are some of the learning differences we work with in the Legacy Learning Center (LLC).

So, what is a learning difference? A learning difference is defined as a measured difference in how

HELPING STUDENTS FLOURISH: MEET THE LEGACY LEARNING CENTER In the elementary division, our goal is to screen, diagnose, and provide structured intervention at the highest level to meet each student’s needs. Once intervention has taken place and students graduate to Middle School, our program begins to focus on their individual strengths. We help students discover how they learn most successfully and then assist them with setting up best practices and additional structured accommodations. Self-advocacy is our highest growth priority for students who move through our program. In the Upper School program, we

By the Lord’s Grace and the LLC By Toni Margolis

I wish I could put into a few succinct sentences what expresses all of my thoughts and feelings about what the Legacy Learning Center meant for my daughter. Before the LLC was established, from kindergarten on we were told time and again that she was struggling in some way or another. She was tested. She was “therapied.” She was accepted into some learning-different schools but not the one I thought held all the answers. It was the wise words of a fourth-grade math teacher who one day put it into perspective when she looked me straight in the eye and said, “I feel like you’re looking elsewhere based on fear instead of having faith and giving her a chance to succeed here, where is she is comfortable, supported, and loved.” From that point on, I allowed God to take the lead. And Holly Hammond, Director of the Legacy Learning Center.

from that point on, He was always one step ahead of her. The LLC was launched, the perfect Head of School for her and her battle was in charge, followed by a Head of School who worked tirelessly behind the scenes for students like our girl. The perfect Middle School teacher was her biggest advocate, the perfect Middle School English teacher came into her life, and the LLC expanded schoolwide just in time for Upper School. It was and still is led by Holly Hammond, the most amazing of amazing champions for learningdifferent students. As a result of the Lord’s grace and the LLC, we have a daughter who persevered through 13 years of formal schooling. But more important, at Legacy Christian Academy she was supported and prayed for by more teachers, staff, and parents than I could ever count or thank. There was not a moment in all the years we spent here that I felt she was unsupported in her academic endeavors, and I will be forever grateful for the LLC’s involvement in her undergraduate success.

HELPING STUDENTS FLOURISH: MEET THE LEGACY LEARNING CENTER “I have a really great teacher who has helped me get better at my reading. She teaches us stuff that goes deeper than our regular classes. I would probably fail my reading class without her.” — Third-grader with dyslexia In addition to dyslexia services, we have learning centers in each division of our school to make sure we’re serving the entire student population. Students in the LLC program have dedicated class time to receive skill support in test taking, studying, and organization. We meet with them individually to help with academic-priority planning according to their grade level and learning difference. We act as liaisons between classroom teachers and students and, when appropriate, provide supplemental support between parents and the school. More formally, we provide official student-specific accommodation plans and assist our teachers with the implementation.

Gigi Gross is the Lower School learning specialist.

In kindergarten through second grade, dyslexia therapists Kristina Stockton and Gigi Gross provide screeners to help identify — as early as possible — any students who are struggling with reading. Mrs. Stockton is a certified academic language therapist with a master’s in special education and six years of teaching experience. Mrs. Gross, also an experienced dyslexia therapist, was one of six people to help Scottish Rite develop and author the “Take Flight” curriculum, which is the industry standard and used worldwide to assist dyslexic students reach their full potential. If a specific learning need is discovered, one of our learning specialists works with the family and student to obtain a full educational diagnostic battery of testing. In the Lower and Middle Schools, for students who have documented dyslexia, we offer the “Take Flight” program during the school day, to assist them in strengthening their reading skills as early and as successfully as possible.

“My daughter says LLC taught her to not procrastinate, and gave her study skills, and time to enjoy life. As parents, we know it changed her future by increasing her GPA, even ACT, which decreased college costs and increased future opportunities. Most important, the staff taught her to believe in how God knitted her to thrive in that unique giftedness.” —Sandi Brandon, parent of former LLC student

ATHLETICS Play Ball! With the Varsity Baseball season cut short due to COVID, summer games were not in the original plan. But God still had something in store for the team. Varsity Baseball took the field at Dr. Pepper Ballpark on June 16 for a final two games.

“It was an Amazing Day! Being able to play two games at Rough Rider stadium was truly a blessing. The two games helped ease the pain of a canceled season for the seniors and enabled us to end our 2020 season on the field.” –Coach Embry

“The Summer Series games made for an incredible day. God blessed us with a beautiful day in which to play and host the games. It gave us a chance to send out fouryear player and senior Lauren Bingham. We were also able to bring up some of the incoming freshmen early to welcome them to the team. A huge thank-you goes out to Coach Johnson for putting this together and the whole Athletic Department staff for their support.” –Coach Zdrojewski

Varsity Softball hosted four teams from our district on June 18 for a Summer Series. Each team was able to play two more games after their COVID-shortened seasons. The teams came together that evening and hosted a Senior Night unlike any other to honor the contributions of outgoing seniors from all of the teams. LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

DESTINED FOR

Discipleship As an international student, from China, Steven Yao joined the LCA community during his freshman year. After a year of sleeping on couches, he found his temporary home with Monty Page, one of our LCA coaches. A football injury in October of his junior year began a change only the Lord could have ordained. His parents flew across the world to be with him during his recovery, and were hosted by the Page family. Steve’s father noticed that Coach Page was spending mornings with his Bible. As the young man was the only one who could translate, Steve found himself at the kitchen table in a five-hour conversation full of his father’s questions about Christ, and this spurred him to ask his own questions. In January, Steven started praying for clarity and asked God to reveal himself if He was real. By February, he and Coach Page were studying John. In March, Steve gave his life fully to Jesus. With Steve about to hop on a plane back to China, he wanted the chance to be baptized in front of his teammates by Coach Page. Little did the young man know… Members of the Frisco Bible community had been praying since October for his heart to be opened to Christ. On June 6, some 100 of them — wearing masks and practicing social distancing — lined the track and celebrated with Steve during his baptism. Three hours later, he was on his way back to China, but he left Coach Page with this final thought: “My Bible is staying with me whatever the cost. With Christ, what can they take from me?” Right now, Steve is in China at a boarding school with New Oasis and is continuing the Legacy curriculum through our online academy. Most Thursdays, he calls in to join Coach Page, Coach Scott Smith, and LCA dad Geoff Godsey to pray over the school and the nation. Because of travel restrictions, Steven will have to stay put for the moment, but we are prayerful that he will be able to finish his senior year on campus with us. “It was a special day to see Steve baptized this summer. He has been a testimony to us all,” says Coach Smith.

PARENT TEACHER FELLOWSHIP Unlimited Fellowship and Community Despite COVID Restrictions “No matter the restrictions we find ourselves under, LCA has continued to provide platforms of service and ministry for our families. Finding opportunities for our moms and dads to come together for fellowship, to experience personal spiritual growth, and to serve both the LCA and the local community has clearly remained a priority for our administration. Through our Dad’s Boot Camp, Men’s and Women’s Bible Studies, PEP Talks, and prayer walks, our families are given opportunities that not only draw us closer as a community, but also glorify the Lord. This is an exciting time to be a part of such a special community!” —Heather Davis, PTF Board President

Women’s Bible Study THURSDAYS, 11:30 A.M. VIRTUALLY “Women’s Bible Study was one of the first things that helped connect me to other moms seven years ago, when my oldest started at LCA. It has been a huge blessing and I see how the school not only prioritizes the spiritual development of our kids but also provides many opportunities for parents to grow. I look back and see the women I met along the way and realize how beautiful the bond of Christ really is. He connects women in all seasons to encourage one another other, grow in His Word, and know Him more.”

Men’s Bible Study THURSDAYS, 6:45 A.M. VIRTUALLY “It was a great honor to be asked to lead the study this year because of what it has meant to me. To me, the Bible study is a great place for fellowship. Some of the first dads I met were in the study. Even to this day, those are some of the closest relationships I’ve made over these last four years at LCA. The authenticity of the men in the study is unquestionable. As the leader, I want to continue to foster that so other men can have an experience equal to or even better than my own.”

Wouldn’t you pray for your children in their secondary ‘home,’ where they spend half of their time? Wouldn’t you pray for the beloved teachers and staff who have established the principles of the foundation for your children and take care of your children with love? Wouldn’t you speak blessings around the campus and ask for God’s protection and covering for the whole community? I invite you to come and walk with us, and stand in the gap for our beloved LCA.”

BooHoo Yahoo Each year, on the first day of school, we gather after carlines for our annual Boohoo Yahoo Event. Whether it is your child’s first day of school ever or last first day, there is a place for you! As a community, we celebrate the milestone moments of the Kinder and Senior parents. Tears, applause, prayer, and encouragement fill the air, and we trust big moments are ahead with a God who is bigger and able to do more than we could ever imagine!

“I still remember those early years, when I was a Kinder mom and would cry at every school event as I heard teachers and administration pray and as I listened to the children say the pledge to the Bible, or sing a song of praise to God. I cried tears of joy and gratitude because they were learning to set their hearts in the direction of God’s truth. It was exactly the foundation we wanted for our children.”

Frisco Fastpacs Food Drive The first Friday in September is National Food Bank Day, and in recognition of its importance, Legacy offered assistance to Frisco Fastpacs. Frisco Fastpacs is a nonprofit organization that provides weekend meals for Frisco ISD students in low-income families. Legacy’s participation is a schoolwide initiative, from our youngest Pre-K Eagles all the way to our seniors, and our families answered the call. Parent volunteers are instrumental in the success of the food drive, as they will deliver the donations to Frisco Fastpacs.

66

LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Legacy’s partnership with the organization has presented a unique opportunity for both student and servant leadership. The National Honor Society has taken the reins and will lead this project for the rest of the year. “Frisco Fastpacs has a special place in the hearts of this year’s NHS officers,” says President Trenton Balcombe, “so we’re honored and thrilled to highlight the food drive as a major staple of our service projects. We plan to spearhead our efforts through student-led involvement in the form of early-morning carline collections. Most importantly, our efforts will be strategically concentrated in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break, as Fastpacs will need a stockpile of donations for the extended time away from school.” Food donations are fundamental to the success of Fastpacs, but many of our teachers have also called on their students’ creativity: “High Five” cards contain bright, uplifting messages and are a great way to reinforce the call to serve. Students in Mrs. Marino’s fourth-grade class wrote and designed the cards. Afterward, the class prayed over them and also prayed for the children. Their prayer was simple: that the food would bless and nourish their bodies and that the High Five cards would bless and nourish their spirit.
