Richard Lang & Son

Richard Lang & Son designs all its ranges in-house from its Derbyshire HQ and has just celebrated its best year since it was established in 1949. Director of Buying and Design Jane Bourne talks to Gifts Today about Home & Gift

‘The perfect environment’

Why is Home & Gift so important for your business? We have a fantastic team looking after our customers and visiting them regularly to service their needs, and obviously we can take orders online or directly with our customer services team. But feedback from our customers is that there’s nothing quite like actually seeing our products and examining the quality. No matter how well a catalogue is printed, it can’t replace that physical experience of being able to touch and feel our products. That said, we are quite selective which trade shows we attend, and have always found Harrogate the perfect environment to catch up with our old customers and build relationships with new ones. We’re all excited for the show and are just so delighted that we can meet again face-to-face.

What products are you finding particularly popular? Our plaques have always been a staple Langs product and continue to be at the top of our bestseller list. Whether the message is cheeky, witty, homely or loving, our customers can’t seem to get enough of them! And as they are small, relatively low cost items which come in their own compact

stand, they can be displayed easily at the till, meaning customers often pick them up as little ‘extra’ treats for themselves or as gifts for loved ones. We’re also thrilled with the way our new range of greeting cards has been received. Card sales have grown in the industry over the last couple of years, and we offer an

“We’re all excited for the show and are just so delighted that we can meet again face-toface” extensive collection covering birthdays, occasions, friendship, thank you, humorous and seasonal cards, designed and printed in the UK on a high quality, textured card with a matt finish. Our card spinners make merchandising easy and come free when purchasing an initial batch of 48 cards. Our customers are already reporting huge successes with this line.

What can we expect to see on your stand? This is the show where customers tend to be focusing on buying for Autumn, Halloween and Christmas. Our stand will be bursting with inspirational displays, helping you to see these collections in all their glory! As ever, our fabulous design team has come up with some gorgeous original imagery for our new Autumn range which we’re delighted to be launching at Harrogate, 34 Gifts Today

including a very handsome hare and a hedgehog on a toadstool. These can be found on a range of products, including cushions, mugs, jugs and prints. We all know Christmas is the most important season of the year for gift retailers and our range this year has not disappointed after launching in early January. You have loved all our collections, and these will all be there for you to get into that festive feeling! Our Vintage Santa embossed mugs make a perfect accessory, and there are lots more pieces to see in this range. Our little houses on the hill collection has again been very popular for the home décor feeling; these snowy houses will look gorgeous in any home.
