Hey Dragons! The month of August was definitely one to remember. I was able to meet a lot of new faces which is what I hoped to do from the very beginning of this term. Thank you all for welcoming me with open arms and showing me nothing but positivity. Go dragons! -Leslie Casillas, DNE

Pickl TOURNA

leball AMENT

In the month of August, I went to the Pickleball Tournament at Murdy Park and volunteered there for about four hours. Pickleball is a relatively new sport that is growing very fast in America, and my club was able to volunteer for a local tournament. There, volunteers could assemble gift baskets, put up signs, take down signs, and even be a line judge during the tournament matches. I was one of those line judges, and it was very interesting. My job was to closely watch a line, and if balls were to bounce out of it, I had to call “OUT to let everyone and the referee know that the ball is over. Not only was I able to contribute to the tournament, but I was also able to learn about a new sport that I have not heard about before. Nearing the end of the tournament, the supervisors had us take down signs that were posted up around the courts and help them carry tables to their cars. We volunteered alongside Edison Kiwins and Edison Key Club, and I met some new people from those groups. One of the ladies running the event allowed us to borrow some paddles and actually try out the game, but there sadly was not enough time. All in all, as a line judge, I was able to learn about a new sport, and my calls could decide whether or not teams would be able to win the tournament.

Slumber This incredible event saw the largest participation from our club out of all the events this term, an entire 7 members in attendance. Which to some may seem insignificant, but to our small club this number represents that our efforts have not been forgotten, and that hopefully our numbers will keep growing at every event. At this specific event our members joined forces to create an assembly line to more efficiently make pillows for the needy. While we bonded baking pillows we also got to marvel in our work of taking used shirts into pillows that could be used by those that need them the most. We also had our DCM at this event, where our amazing treasurer Dominique Sardinas got recognized as the member of the month. Also one of the most exciting occurrences, happened when, due to such a large attendance from the division, LTG Diego waxed his legs and ate a spoonful of wasabi! It was very fun to watch, but probably very painful for him. Overall this event was one of the best of the term, as our members got to connect in so many ways, all the while serving those in need and our community as a whole. -Jeremy Flores Marina
