Eve&Co. creates the finest in celebration stationery, tailored to the needs of each individual event. Here we chat to owner Daniella regarding the latest trends and using custom stationery at your celebration!

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE NEW TRENDS IN EVENT STATIONERY FOR CHILDREN’S CELEBRATIONS, BABY SHOWERS AND CHRISTENINGS? We’re seeing a strong continuation of some popular trends from 2017 - watercolour is still going strong and very popular for Christenings, as are floral based themes. Unicorn and mermaid themes aren’t going anywhere and are still very popular for birthday parties. People are really wanting to make their event’s first impression something to look forward to, and we’ve noticed that all those special touches like foil and laser cutting are very popular. Personalisation is one of those epochal touches that people are really starting to opt in to also, which really gives that sense of care and attention to detail, and makes the guests feel valued and in turn look forward to the event.

WHAT ARE THE TOP 3 REASONS TO HAVE EVENT STATIONERY DESIGNED RATHER THAN DIY? There are hundreds of reasons to have a custom designed stationery suite, but here are our top 3: 1. Receiving exactly what you want, design-wise 2. W orking with a highly experienced designer who understands not only creative direction but how to build on a concept and take it across many different applications and keep it all flowing consistently.

WHAT CAN SOMEONE EXPECT FROM COMING TO EVE&CO FOR THEIR EVENT STATIONERY?

3. B eing able to touch and feel a physical invitation or stationery piece that was handcrafted or specially printed for your event. It really does make the world of difference when you’re holding a quality piece of stationery in your hands.

Here at Eve&Co, our aim is to provide the highest level of customer service one can expect. We love working in close collaboration with our clients to really bring their vision to life.

HOW HAS SWEET BAKES EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS? This whole cake journey began around 5 years ago around the time of my 19th birthday. At that stage, I had this vision of my very own designer cake & dessert store. I can certainly say that vision has totally changed course since then! I now no longer wish to venture into owning a commercial premises or to be producing large numbers of cakes per week. My passion lies in the creativity of baking & the celebration that goes along with those events. I’m on a mission now to gradually slow down the orders that I take on, to focus more on teaching, creating videos & hosting events that bring sugar lovers together! Sweet Bakes has always been a direct reflection of me, and as I have grown up a little more through this process - I know that a sense of FUN is what will keep my creativity growing for the future!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE TO OTHER BUSINESS OWNERS IN THIS CREATIVE INDUSTRY? Oh gosh have I learnt some lessons along the way! I think most recently the most important thing I have learnt is to really get to the core of why you do what you do. Is that time you spend creating what makes you happy? Is seeing a smile on your clients faces what makes you happy? What is it that when you feel like it’s all very hard (as we ALL have those moments) will pick you back up to keep pushing through! Prioritising how much work consumes you, and your life outside of that is also very key! It’s taken me a long time to think of Sweet Bakes as “work” - as it is also my passion. But, it is at the end of the day, my job & that realisation has given me so much clarity within the business & outside of it!

HOW HAVE YOU USED NETWORKING AND COLLABORATIONS IN THIS INDUSTRY TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS? I’ve never loved the term “networking”, as to me it sounds like you go out seeking something with the intention of self gain. I like to think of it as team work - aligning myself with other brands & business where I believe we both compliment each other & can benefit! Collaborations through photo shoots have been key for me in my social media growth. If it’s your intent to harness more customers, look to businesses who have captured your ideal audience & see how you can work together!

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST INSTAGRAM TIP FOR OTHER CREATIVES? I live by the rule of the 5 C’s! Content, Cohesion, Collaborations, Competitions & Community. Content: ensuring every image you post is stunning & showcasing your work to it’s fullest potential. Cohesion: that you establish a style for your page that will be recognisable to your followers. Collaborations: teaming up with other businesses to broaden your reach. Competitions: an easy way to draw people to your page! Community: this is the most important. Creating a sense that you really do care & love engaging with your followers, and other accounts you follow too. I have so many “Instagram” friends, you will be surprised how much you can help each other out along the way! WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN THE SWEET BAKES JOURNEY IN 2018? I’ve walked into this year with an extra kick of creative mojo! It went M.I.A last year - its back yay! I’m really looking forward to bringing more of myself into the mix of SB. I just love to celebrate through cake, and want to share that happiness with everyone! I’ll be teaming up with some really great brands, working on some pop ups & getting stuck into filming! In March, SB will turn 5 - so I’m working on something to celebrate that occasion with everyone! C E L E B R AT I N G L I T T L E O N E S

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY? I wanted to do a safari theme but with a modern twist. The vision I had was clear. I wanted a minimal colour palette of vibrant greens, blacks and golds. One of the first pieces that I created were the invitations which featured a black silhouette design that I carried through for the rest of the stationery, including the chocolate wrappers, lolly boxes and welcome sign. The other colours were illustrated in the use of the green, white, black and gold balloons, green foliage, gold coloured props such as cake stands, partyware and animals. The location itself had large windows all around which let in an abundance of light and the surrounding nature.

I would say organisation is the key in planning any event. Plan ahead, don’t leave anything to the last minute. SHARE YOUR TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS I would say organisation is the key in planning any event. Plan ahead, don’t leave anything to the last minute. If you need help from family and friends, ask for it. It’s very important to have a Plan B, just in case something doesn’t turn out the way you wanted, or a back up list of vendors if one cancels. When working with other vendors, show them images of your inspiration, so there is no miscommunication. If you only discuss your ideas verbally, they may have a different interpretation to your own.

TAKING TIME OUT TO WORK “ON”

Your business!

When you’re running a small business – it is often only one of many other roles and duties you’re doing in life! However when we’re constantly doing the “tasks” of our business with our head down – we can easily lose inspiration, lose any sense of focus and direction or new inspiration! SO THE SOLUTION? Seek out simple ways to work “on” your business. After growing my business while raising my 4 young children I know that if it’s too complicated or hard to manage with kids, you just won’t do it. Here are some ideas:

•N etworking & opportunities to connect with other business owners in our industry •H earing from fabulous speakers to gain business tips relevant to your small business in your industry across the areas of PR, marketing and growing your business.

• Listen to podcasts in the car

• Gain inspiration for your business

• Watch a video blog or tutorial in the evenings

•E njoy lovely food, wonderful company and beautiful views to refresh yourself!

• Read a business blog or book once a week • Attend a new workshop or meet-up event

Unlike other events this day is purely tailored to small business owners like yourself and to the events, baking and handmade industry.

•M eet up for coffee with an industry peer to brainstorm ideas •S pend time purely searching online for ideas and inspiration The Celebrate conference day on Sunday May 27th www.lifeslittlecelebrations.org/celebrate provides women like us that one day of time out (on a weekend so it’s hopefully easier for you to get babysitting!) I know your time is so valuable which is why we have filled this day with value for your business combining:

Earlybird tickets are NOW available ONLY until the end of March! So head HERE www.lifeslittlecelebrations.org/celebrate to book your seat NOW as this is a wonderful opportunity to take some much-needed time out in an enjoyable setting and to gain practical valuable business tools.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY? The inspiration behind this party was to showcase that little one’s can glamp too! Sleepovers are a great party treat for both boys and girls around this age group therefore we wanted to showcase the next level in sleep overs – glamping style. Because Girls Just Wanna Glamp!! Glamping leans itself to boho which in turn allowed us to take this style to the next level with glam boho. Feathers, arrows and dream catchers are all so beautiful so bringing a luxe boho theme to life with these gorgeous teepee’s from Sweet Dreams and Goodnight was easy. Benny & Co supplied the cutest vintage caravan to house our beautiful cakes and sweet treats.

SHARE YOUR TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS The key to organizing and children’s party is to plan well in advance and to give consideration to the age and gender of the kids. Always ensure you have entertainment organized to keep kiddies happy and engaged.

Instagram for Creatives

SOME MUST-KNOW TIPS! www.weddedwonderland.com Wendy Daoud El-Khoury, founder of Wedded Wonderland & The Creative Business Hub – has successfully created a huge community on social media for her business. Here she shares her top tips for those in the event industry

30

|

C E L E B R AT I N G L I T T L E O N E S

|

MARCH 2018

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START WEDDED WONDERLAND AND CAN YOU TELL US HOW AND WHEN DID IT ALL COME ABOUT? I was a wedding planner for a number of years and found a huge gap online in communicating and disseminating meaningful content, suppliers and information to Brides.

HOW HAS WEDDED WONDERLAND EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS AND WHAT DO YOU THINK HAS BEEN THE KEY TO IT’S SUCCESS? Staying true to our audience, our legion of fans and Fairies, and of course this incredible industry. WHAT LED YOU TO LAUNCH THE CREATIVE BUSINESS HUB AND SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE ON SOCIAL MEDIA WITH INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS? Through this journey I have pursued sharing my learnings with the industry in the form of consulting, seminars and workshops to keep them informed - as when I started WW there was little information on Digital Marketing in the Wedding and Event space. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE TOP MISTAKES EVENT INDUSTRY BUSINESS OWNERS MAKE ON INSTAGRAM? Sharing content at the wrong time!

WHAT ARE YOUR KEYS TO BUILDING AN ENGAGED FOLLOWING ON INSTAGRAM? Understand your audience. Social listening is imperative to understand what looks like a well performing post vs. what is not, and that doesn’t just come down to the number of likes. HOW SHOULD EVENT INDUSTRY BUSINESS OWNERS BEST USE INSTA STORIES? This is the most dynamic platform in our marketplace today- utilise it to keep your audience in the loop with what’s on NOW. It is an incredible way for your followers and customers to see a glimpse into your world. HOW CAN EVENT INDUSTRY BUSINESS OWNERS BETTER USE INSTAGRAM TO ACTUALLY CONVERT THEIR FOLLOWERS TO CLIENTS? Ask questions, run competitions, promote certain products... and above all measure the feedback! If no one is biting, they’re simply not interested! It’s a great resource to genuinely determine what people are interested in…and this is measured through leads, enquries and of course sales!

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY? I’ve admired the Swedish Mrs Mighetto prints for some time now, with their dreamy watercolours and gorgeous characters. When the opportunity for the Sleepy eyed bunny shoot developed, I immediately wanted to incorporate the soft shades of grey and pink to create a whimsical and magical Easter party. After seeing the divine creations from Arabella’s Vintage Wardrobe and Coco blush boutique, I knew they would help me create the dreamy effect I wanted. My love of backdrops, balloons and deluxe furniture gave the party a mix of current party trends and old world charm.

SHARE YOUR TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS Choosing a colour palette that reflects your tastes and style, but also works in with the theme you’ve selected is paramount to creating a party you love. With all the online boutiques and party supplies, there are a plethora of items available to suit any theme! I tend to stick to complementary colours and usually add a hint of metallics to give it that extra sparkle. Fresh flowers and greenery are always lovely and if you’re a green thumb, you might even be lucky enough to have some in your garden! I love a bit of DIY, so if you can’t afford it or can’t find what you’re looking for, have a go at making things yourself.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY? Leah has brought so much joy to our family and I wanted to celebrate this 1 year milestone with something special and memorable – as well as a beautiful theme fitting for such a precious girl! I love the pretty flamingo images I’ve seen with floral crowns and the idea of doing a floral flamingo party (rather than tropical) with shades of pink and rose gold. Eve&Co created a stunning floral flamingo design for the invitation which then carried over to the table decal, cake topper and more. This design inspired the rest of the decor which Paper Face Party was able to bring together on the day with her styling and florals. The amazing balloon decor by Party Splendour also really brought the chosen colour scheme alive!

SHARE YOUR TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS Outsource what you need to ease the stress! I always use Life’s Little Celebration directory vendors for my kids parties. Having vendors I could rely on helped with being able to prepare for the party while still being able to look after my 1yr old and other children. If you can’t or don’t want to outsource too much then ensure you keep things simple enough that you can manage. Have something for the kids to enjoy at the party. At Leah’s party the younger kids loved the ball pit and older kids enjoyed the puppet show (which included a Flamingo puppet !) and it meant our friends could then also relax and enjoy the party! Whether it’s party games, colouring activities, art & craft tables or outdoor equipment - having something for the kids helps both them and the adults enjoy the celebration! After all your hard work planning – don’t forget to actually enjoy the party you’ve spent so long organizing!

5 MUST-KNOW TIPS FOR A 1ST BIRTHDAY

Cake Smash! By Rochelle McLennan from A la Roch www.alroch.com.au

MARCH 2018

1. PHOTOGRAPHER Research, research, research. Look at local photographer’s Facebook and website to see if you like their style and weight it against price and inclusions. A lot of the local photographers I work with are Mums (which is a bonus in my book), they work from a natural light studio from their home or on location. Cake Smash packages can be simple and just include the 15 minutes of fun saved on a USB or they could include the cost of the cake and a family shoot prior to smashing the cake. Save photos of the different settings you like and start communication once you have decided. Photos of the setting and props will help the session run smoothly and expectations being met.

2. STYLE After looking at local photographers photos and photos online you will know what you like and dislike. Some prefer the natural dark oak or outside setting whilst others the crisp white with coloured accents. Both are amazing, just make sure your photographers offers the style your after.

4. OUTFIT Decide your colour scheme and highlight it with a cute frilly romper or classic nappy cover and bow tie. Check with the photographer if they include this as some have set outfits for you to wear instead of going to the expense of buying your own. 5. PROPS Ask the photographer what is included in the package. Common props in a smash shoot include balloons, bunting and cake. Some photographers offer a smash and splash session where your bub is photographed in the tub afterwards which is perfect and then you’re not travelling home with a naked 1 year old covered in sugar!

3. CAKE The look of the cake is somewhat important, but also how it smashes. I personally take pride in creating a little artwork for the one year old to enjoy, using a soft, messy icing that I have perfected throughout my years of decorating. Word of advice on the cake, stay clear of chocolate… whilst you might think your baby would prefer it… you won’t when the photos come back and it looks like they eating… well you can work that out!

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY? We (Bloss & Co) created this event “Young, Wild + Three” for my 3 year old Inaaya. We wanted to create a fun, colourful vibe and use a mixture of burgundy, pink, peach, red and white throughout the shoot. Working with florals we are always on the hunt for colour schemes that catch the eye immediately, we actually based this entire Photoshoot on an amazing bouquet we saw with such a beautiful arrangement of colours that we knew would work well with our theme.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT OF THE DAY? Favourite moment was watching our two girls in their absolute element enjoying every moment of their little party setup! They felt like complete princesses!

Adopt a Kitty By Party Pony Designer Pinata’s + Perfectly Sweet

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY? Mia LOVES cats and we had seen some beautiful partyware at Ruby Rabbit, so with the styling magic of Alicia from Perfectly Sweet Lollie Buffet’s we joined the two main idea’s together. Mia is getting a bit older now so really wanted a more grown up looking black, gold and peach colour scheme. We came up with the idea of having each guest “adopt” a kitty. As part of the activities they completed an adoption certificate and made a name-tag before presenting their kitty in a pet show.

SHARE YOUR TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS. I always find great inspiration on Pinterest, but find the most current trends and products on Instagram. Once I have an idea in mind I save images to refine my idea so that our fave stylist Alicia can bring it all together. I always find that I have good ideas but just not the skills and talent to execute them. That’s where a stylist is essential for really giving creating that WOW factor.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY? Abby is a Summer baby and loves the water, she just started kindy so invited her friends from her class for a pool party. What better theme than under the sea and mermaids to tie it all together? Inspiration from the table started with the invite from Gosh Paperie, The colours were perfect with a splash of gold glitter. I used the shapes from the invitation and transformed them into shapes that were painted to match for the back drop. The cake and desserts were made in the colour pallete in a mixture of chocolate, fondant and buttercream.

SHARE YOUR TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS Buy a trestle table, nice cloth or material and invest in a few props like cake stands (white will work with most themes) and jars. A few key pieces that are inexpensive that I have used over the years include photo frames with plain paper backing and mirrors which also look amazing to display individual desserts. Keep the colour scheme simple and if you have different suppliers, make sure you send them a photo for reference so your lilac isn’t their mauve. Most of all when creating parties for kids, have fun, try something new and set a budget.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY? Marley has an input into selecting her annual birthday party theme, and with the year of the Unicorn in full swing, we both agreed that we could not get past it in the eyes of an 8 year old. We chose a unique pastel palette with gold shimmer to set it off beautifully, it was definitely our most girly and pretty event to date.

WHAT DID THE GUESTS ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT THE SETUP OR PARTY? All the parents were amazed at the styling and setup greeting guests as they stepped out of the lift. The children absolutely loved the Flower Market we setup with each child receiving a vase with their name, which they spent time in the party with our host Lisa, making beautiful arrangements to take home. The girls spent time having so much fun with the Unicorn Crown Making activity we arranged, using our metallic padded horns and lots of silk flowers and beads. It was an amazing activity.

WHAT WERE THE SPECIAL FEATURES AND HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY OR THE SETUP/DECOR? One of the highlights was most definitely the enjoyment Marley and her friends had with the Flower Market (www.cookiequeenkitschn.com.au/packages) , and seeing their excitement in being able to select their own flowers from the vast selection. The rainbow chrysanthemums were a huge hit with the girls, they got such delight from them.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP PARTY PLANNING / STYLING TIP FOR MUMS? Go with professionals and ensure you thoroughly check out their work and styles and reviews to ensure that they match your theme and vision. Life’s Little Celebrations is a great directory filled with professionals, and their work is seen regularly on the Instagram and Facebook pages along with photoshoot collaborations, this can reduce the risk of disappointment and heartache.
