Printmaking & Book Arts

Explore printmaking and handmade books in our fully-equipped studio. Letterpress and bookbinding complement techniques such as etching, relief and screen printing. Get creative with traditional, contemporary and experimental approaches to printmaking. With generous open studio time and non-toxic inks and solvents, printmaking has something for all skill levels. Additional materials and paper are available for sale from instructors and monitors. Open studio is included with tuition.

First-Time Artist First-Time Screen Printing on Paper 4 or 5 Weeks Craft colorful prints of your own designs to hang on your walls or turn into handmade notecards. We’ll learn the photo-emulsion process, so you can print from your own drawings or digital files. Material fee includes ink, newsprint and some paper.

Explore both classic letterpress techniques and contemporary practices on different types of presses. This technique uses movable type to create an impression on the paper when printed. Projects are designed to showcase type, color and the printed form. The material fee includes ink, newsprint and a sampling of specialty paper.

Explore contemporary and traditional methods of intaglio printmaking including line etching, aquatint and drypoint on copper plates to create an edition. Utilize etching’s distinctive qualities to produce multiples, creating beautiful handmade prints in single or multiple colors.

Learn the basic skills, tools and vocabulary of bookbinding and book arts. You will create simple folded books, pamphlets, Japanese stab bindings, accordion and Coptic books.
