THE BRIEF

BACKGROUND

CONCEPT

Design a logo and identity for Megan Fraser.

Megan Fraser is a Surface Pattern and Print Designer in her final year at Leeds College of Art. Due to her graduation soon approaching, she required a new logo and promotional pack to send out to potential employers. The business cards would also be placed alongside her work in the Leeds College of Art Final Show in June 2015.

Create a new brand concept for Megan, focusing on her work. Create business cards, postcards, curriculum vitae and cover letter.

RESEARCH Megan’s work usesa range of different espressive processes. She had selected a few of her current favourite designs (shown above). As these were all recently works she had created, and was planning to include them in the show, she requested that these could somehow be incorporated into her brand.

This was another relatively free brief. Once the delieverables had be outlined by Megan, the design aspect was encouraged to take whichever pathway seemed most effective.

LOGO DEVELOPMENT The logo initally started as sketch form. One of the strongest sketches was one of the most basic ideas of a single-line M intertwined with an F. A selection of similar logos were recreated in Illustrator to get a clearer idea of their clarity and effectiveness.

After comparing the different logo variations. The initial favourite logo (bottom right) still stood out as the best one for Megan. As she liked this one the most, the following designs include this design as the final logo.

FINAL OUTCOME The final business cards were ordered from moo.com. The front of the card featured Megan’s details and a small inclusion of her logo. Two separate variations were used for the reverse side of the card. To keep it consistent, the two designs featured Megan’s work, slightly more zoomed in than her originals.

The cards worked well with the full design, however it would have just been a repeat of her collection being displayed at the show. By focusing further in on the designs, the detail of Megan’s work was more easily visible.
