RESEARCH - EXISTING JEWELLERY BRANDS
BACKGROUND
Create a new identity/ brand for high-end Jewellery company called Rox Vox. Create an online presence and also printed means to be used in a Christmas jewellery event.
Rox Vox is a new jewellery business founded by Julia Gosney. The term ‘Rox Vox’ translates in to ‘Rocks that speak’, or ‘Rocks with meaning’. The jewellery has been sourced from various defferent countries, including Thailand, Bali and Mexico. This adds a unique value to the company, offering everything from dichroic glass necklaces, to pearl bracelets or silver rings.
Rox Vox Jewellery
Rox Vox was set up as a follow-up from Toko Jewellery, and it was originally intended to function as a purely online basis.

RESEARCH - PRESENTATION & DISPLAY Packaging is a really important element of the Rox Vox brand. Part of the reason the company was so popular was its creative use of placing the jewellery inside beautiful wooden oak boxes. Research in to packaging suggested a range of elegant packaging methods, but it mainly highlighted the importance of effective photography. Presentation of the jewellery seemed to work hand-in-hand with the aesthetic of the each piece.

LOGO DEVELOPMENT Both hand drawn and digital variations of the logo were experimented with in the initial stages of design. Although some of the digital type looked elegant and fitting with existing high end jewellery companies, the hand drawn aspect seemed more appropriate to the independent, entrepreneurial nature and brand values.
The sketches were drawn using a Tombow pen, and the digital logos were aligned and scaled accordingly in Illustrator. A rose-pink shade was also incorporated into the design to accompany the dried rose petals included in the packaging, but also to resemble the colour of rose quartz - a gem stone commonly seen in the Rox Vox collections.

LOGO The final logo has been taken from one of the original sketches and vectorised in Illustrator using the pen tool. The different pen weights have been emphasised to give the logo as much character as possible, whilst remaining elegant. There is a slight slant on the logotype, again adding a stylish aesthetic. As an optional addition, the ‘JEWELLERY’ is placed below the main logo.
One of the main reasons this logo was chosen is its subtle inclusion of the Breast Cancer Ribbon in the ‘R’ of ‘Rox’. This is extremely personal and relevant to Rox Vox due to 25% of all profits going to Breast Cancer Research. The logo requires people to interact and look in an alternativr perspective, without the symbol dominating the rest of the logo. This also meant it could be appreciated on a personal scale to those who knew Julia, or by others who just appreciated the brand at face value.

DEVELOPMENT Labels, a message gift card, stickers and posters were created to be used in the Rox Vox Jewellery sale held at Christmas time. The labels were kept to a small size. Different colours were experimented with these to fuction as colour coding for pricing, but eventually all of the the designs returned to black and white to keep everything consistent.
The labels were to be attached to each individual jewellery piece on the day of the sale to help indicate the different rocks, metals, whether it was a necklace, bracelet, ring, and so on. The message cards were designed as a small addition to place inside the gift boxes, as a short message for the person receiving the gift.
The stickers were mainly intended to be used for giftwrapping the boxes. Each box would have the option of extra money for a tissue paper gift wrap, helfd together with one of these stickers. They were also going to be applied in various displays on the day.
The poster was created to inform guests about the brief history and values of Rox Vox. it used welcoming tone as this would be one of the initial items guests would view on arrival. The poster also intended to function as a reinforcement of information about where their money was going and what they could expect to find in the selection o

DEVELOPMENT - IDENTITY As this was a large-scale project, it consisted of a range of different typefaces. Georgia was used in the ‘JEWELLERY’ part of the logo, and also for the pricing on the colour code chart. This font seemed appropriate due to its elegant feel in both lower case, upper case, and numeric forms. Nella Sue Demo was also elegant, working nicely on a small scale to resemble handwriting. The original labels were going to be hand-written, but this worked out to appear more consistent and professional.
The pricing was defined by different coloured ribbons attached to the jewellery. Six pastel shades were used for six different prices. This process intended to keep the buying process as simple as possible. A colour code chart was to be repeatedly placed around the jewellery sale venue.

FINAL PACKAGING & GIFT BOXES The logo was engraved onto wooden boxes as part of the packaging. Stickers, gift cards, price tags and information were also printed for the Rox Vox Jewellery sale held at Chirstmas time. The engaved boxes brought life to the brand, making the development process rewarding and entirely worth the time and persistence.
