Yamaha
Concept GDAY - Graphic Design Awards Yamaha is a competition brief seeking a new form of identity for Yamaha with a main focus on the Japanese term ‘KANDO’ - meaning ‘for the heart’ or ‘to be deeply moved.’ With this in mind, the competition asked Grapic Designers worldwide to think about a new and creative solution which clearly represented both the music and motor elements of the company. This brief asked for the two elements to be presented together through the identity of ‘Kando’, whether it be a logo, brand or small mark, this brief was reasonably open to interpretation.

Logo Variations This concept has been created to function as a universal symbol of the Japanese word “KANDO”, meaning for the heart “to be deeply moved”. The symbol consists of two downward facing hearts. They are facing downward to suggest a sense of deep movement. The two hearts placed next to one another form a capitalised ‘M’. This M represents M for Music and also M for Motors.

Poster Variations In order for this Kando identity to be shown in context, this project took the form of a poster campaign. Through the use of the Kando logo and bold imagery, the concept has been produced as a series of four posters. The posters intend to celebrate and raise public awareness of the two separate fields of Yamaha - Yamaha Music and Yamaha Motors.

Poster Variations There a are two poster styles; one with the Kando identity as the prominent feature, and with more focus on imagery. The change between a keyboard and a motorbike is reasonably subtle. This is to encourage people to look more carefully at the campaign and experience Kando for themselves.

DR.ME
Concept 1 This was a one-day brief set by DR.ME where we were asked to carry out three tasks in pairs. The first was to produce a vinyl cover for a limited edition 12 of a mix Evian Christ called duga-3. This design encompassed three main elements: wings of a bird to represent the woodpecker sound in the song, the duga-3 structure itself and a central feature from a propeller to represent the faint sound of a helicopter.

Background The aim of this project was to take an existing brand, which was currently not a wonderful experience, and think of an effective re-brand. With the topic of recycling, this project took the form of ‘Patch’ - a typographic recycling system. The idea was to encourage people to interact with large structures as a method of recycling, at the same time as taking part in a recycling programme. The structures would be placed in various busy urban environments where they would be easily accessible. This idea was inspired by research carried out into Southbound Festival in Australia.

Logo The final logo is bold, vibrant and intends to stand out. The dashed line around the edge resembles the stitching of a patchwork - hence the name.

Nation of Shopkeepers
Concept Each year is presented in the form of vinyl records with a different Hip Hop song for every year. The chosen songs have been determined by their release dates as opposed to their success or popularity. The collection of tracks essentially functions as a visual timeline of Hip Hop music over the past forty years.

Concept In addition, four vinyl coasters were produced – one for every decade. The coasters require to be spun in order to read each lyric, in the same manner a record would be spun on a turntable to produce sound.
