ally-Ann Neve was delighted when her wonderful veteran, 28-year-old Declan won the Senior-Plus Ridden section and stood Veteran Champion, qualifying for the Olympia semi-finals. Sally-Ann has owned Declan for 13 years and competed him in dressage, show jumping and eventing, before retiring him. One day after seeing him come bouncing back from a hack, SallyAnn’s friend, Jade Algeo, said: “you ought to show him.” Sally-Ann suggested Jade had a go and she now hacks him five times a week and has a lesson once a week. Jade said: “I smile all the time when I ride him.”
Coloured Cobs An early start was rewarded, when Imogen Yates and Colour Index took the Maxi Cob class ahead of Neil Boorman and Mrs Tillett’s The Painted Man. Coloured cobs continued to rule the line-up in
the Lightweight section, when Volantis ridden by Lynn Russell took the top spot, with Dominique Pizzingrilli and Horton’s Vortigern in second. Lynn took the Heavyweight section with another coloured, Bailey’s Horse Feeds’ six-year-old, Cleaghmore, who later stood Champion Cob. Miss Obbard’s Randlestown Causeway, ridden by Lucy Fisher stood second in the Heavyweight section. The Reserve Championship went to Imogen Yates and Colour Index. The Hunter Championship went to the Lightweight winner, Seabourne Silent Valley ridden by Paula Merton, with the Middleweight, Blushing Boy ridden by Claire Langrish in Reserve. Danny Fehler headed the Heavyweight section with the nine-yearold Diamonds on Fire, who was popular with the spectators in the Members Enclosure. Kate Brooks and My Leading Light took the Amateur Hunter title, with Jade Algeo and her own Travelling David in second.
