HOLIDAYS There is something magical about riding a Marwari horse through the rich and varied landscape of Rajasthan, and Horse India does just that. A collaboration between Surrey based Caroline Moorey and ,your host and ride leader, Dr Rao Ajeet Singh.

Granary Mead Cottage offers instant access to the numerous tracks of the New Forest

Ride India says: “Feel the spirit of the Marwari horse as you discover the history, culture, forts and palaces of Rajasthan by retracing old routes through the forests of the Aravalli Hills, and riding over the sand dunes of the Thar Desert.” This company offers a fabulous range of holidays, several of which take in special events and shows. Ride along the Osian Desert Dunes and experience the Nagaur Horse & Cattle Fair or take part in the Godwar Festival and Horse Show, and then ride from Khumbhalgarh Fort to Jawai in search of Leopards. The shows and fairs are date specific, but throughout the year there are opportunities to take part in different events, including the famous Pushkar Horse & Camel Fair. For those who wish to experience the grand splendour of India and a time gone-by the Palace to Palace ride should appeal, while those feeling a little more adventurous could consider riding through semi-desert and sand dunes, visiting the Jain temples at Osian, and camping near rural hamlets. For those wishing to mix some riding with a wider tour of India there is the opportunity to stay at farms, which offer full board accommodation and riding on a daily basis. Horse India continue: “On safari we will share with you the thrill of riding the unique and spirited Marwari horse, you cannot ride this breed anywhere else in the world. Intelligent and loyal, they have distinctive ears that touch at the tips and rotate 180 degrees. Solo travellers, groups, families and nonriding partners are all welcome.”
