T

he team from Wix Hill Livery enjoyed a fun yet successful weekend in Wales at the end of September. Seven riders took eleven horses between them to compete at the Wales and West Derby Show. Wix Hill Livery Stables in Surrey is run by Claire and Mark Edwards with their son Nick, who was jumping four of his horses in Wales. He was joined by Kirby Todd and Charlotte Ward who both work at Wix, along with liveries, Zoe Light, Holly Chantler, Abi Round and Sophie Barker. Nick said: “We had a great weekend with the liveries who came with us. We were all under the watchful of eye of of my mother, Claire Edwards BHS AI, who does an amazing job of producing riders and horses up the levels.” Nick continued: “I took four horses, my top horse Contendaan, a sevenyear-old, who is owned by my parents, Elastique, a six-year-old owned by Simon Milner, Kimba Cloud, a five-year-old owned by Alix Tidmarsh and a new horse, Cunna Ross, who is also owned by my parents.” Nick jumped Contendaan in three classes, reaching round four out of a possible five in the Six Bar competition on the Friday evening. They won the Foxhunter class on Saturday going on to finish joint-first in the Two Fence Challenge by clearing round five at 1.70m, later the same day. The Two Fence Challenge is similar to a Puissance with the height of the fence increasing with each round and a maximum of five rounds allowed. Four riders shared joint-first. Nick said of Contendaan: “He has been produced from the start by us as a family and only ever been in the ring with my brother Reece and me. This year stepped up to 1.30m level and is super consistent. We have had a fantastic summer season and fingers crossed it continues into winter with qualifiers and premier shows planned.” There was plenty of time to enjoy the top level competition and the team enjoyed sharing a bottle or two of Prosecco, whilst watching the Two Fence Challenge on the Saturday night.
