t was good to see a mixture of new and familiar combinations at the sunshine Tour Championships. Thirteen-year-old Leah robertson and her pony Dukeshill icon aka rocket were the clear winners of the supreme versatile Pony Championship. Leah’s family have owned the now 12-yearold rocket since he was a yearling and in the true sense of ‘versatile’, he and Leah do everything together. members of bisley & sandown Chase Pony Club, they have been on dressage teams as well as mounted games teams. Leah’s mother said; “he is a good allrounder and Leah has had a lot of fun with him.” reserve supreme went to the Family horse & Pony Champions, Leanne Jones and harry. Despite being only five-years-old the Friesian-thoroughbred cross is the perfect allrounder and family pony, who is ridden by all the family, mum, Kelly, who backed him, Leanne and her seven-year-old sister, reanie.

riders from the Lead rein, First ridden and Junior best rider Championships came forward for the judging of the Junior supreme Championship. Judge Claire Cameron found her winner in the beautifully turned out combination of fouryear-old suzy-boo beechey and Crumpwell Fenella led by mrs beechey. The family bought Crumpwell Fenella in march, qualifying for the sunshine Tour at their first ever show. suzy-boo enjoys doing a bit of everything, during the summer she attended sevenoaks Pony Club rallies and was looking forward to the mini Pony Club one Day event at Wivelsden.

The reserve supreme Junior Championship went to one of the most consistent combinations at the show, holly mayling and Greenholme Yabadabadoo. The combination stood reserve Champion Working hunter Pony and reserve supreme Working hunter, reserve Champion Junior best rider and reserve supreme Junior supreme, Champion show Pony ridden and reserve supreme ridden Champion. holly and her versatile Fell pony enjoying doing everything and are also members of the mid surrey Pony Club. holly’s mother nicola had some good placings on her Fell pony, murthwaite John Tom, in the small Tour Dressage Championships.

Champion Riding School Pony Dartmoor Pony bill proved to be worth his weight in gold when he headed the Lead rein showing Championship with Kate hewson, who rides bill twice a week at Kingston riding Centre. Kate has been learning to ride for just one year and took a share in bill a month before the show. she and her mother, emma, spent saturday pampering and preening bill. Their hard work was also spotted in the Delightfully Dapper ridden Pony Championship, where they were pulled in reserve. Kate was supported by her grandparents who had driven up from Devon to watch as well as Kingston riding Centre Proprietor, Lynne mastroianni. Kate is a member of the Centre’s branch of the Pony Club and recently passed her D+ test. reserve to Kate in the Lead rein Championship was eight-year-old Pippa reed on her sweet pony, Peek A boo. The combination are members of the Chiddingfold branch of the Pony Club, where Pippa’s mother heidi is the Chief instructor. Pippa loves everything about Pony Club including easter egg hunts, Christmas activities, as well as camp, which this year was held at Cranleigh school.
