Welcome 36 I

know from the pictures featured in this issue that lots of you have been outside enjoying your horses this month. The pages are bursting with fantastic photographs of riders of all ages enjoying various equestrian disciplines. We have everything from the wonderful show just for children on page 66 to the equestrian.com Hickstead Derby Meeting on page 14. Every year watching the Derby I am sat on the edge of my seat, hardly daring to breathe, willing the horses and riders to jump clear. It was a wonderful win for Trevor Breen on Loughnatousa WB, a horse who previously won the Hickstead Derby in 2012 with Paul Beecher, the only combination to jump clear this year. As always with Localrider, we were cheering the loudest for our local combinations and I was particularly delighted when Steven Franks produced a super round on Sue Bennett’s Carlow Cruiser to finish in equal-second. There were even more proud moments in the office this month, when the BEF announced the list of riders heading to Blair for the European Eventing Championships. For three of our favourite locals, Gemma Tattersall, Flora Harris and Francis Whittington it will be their first time on a senior squad. I was also delighted that Pippa Funnell has been selected on her own, her mother Jenny Nolan’s and Ruth McMullen’s Sandman 7. All three have been instrumental in the growth of the sport of eventing, through teaching, training, inspiring and running events and it is a wonderful opportunity for them to enjoy the occasion together. It was also good to see Kent based rider Tom Jackson (22) named as the First Reserve. Other locals made it on to the reserve list including Nana Dalton, Emily Llewellyn and Georgie Strang. With the Rio Olympics in a year’s time, I am delighted to see so many of our local combinations catching the selectors’ attention. See page 38 to read more. The next couple of months are full of exciting shows and events. If you have a good result or just have an interesting picture to share email fiona@localrider.co.uk Have Fun!

Ashleigh Smith BSc, WGET is one of only two Transeva practitioners based in the UK and the only one based in Surrey. Pulse Therapy is a specialized form of sports therapy for the assessment and improvement of the equine athlete at a musculoskeletal level. Pulse Therapy makes use of the Winks Greene (WG) Transeva to correct dysfunction and improve overall muscle movement and performance. It uses a modified faradic pulse to stimulate the muscle into rhythmic contractions. The muscles are individually stimulated via their motor neurons allowing for precise application of treatment and identification of muscular dysfunction. The pulse has a wide range in which it can be adjusted by the practitioner and is able to penetrate to deep seated muscles. Therefore it is able to stimulate both superficial and deep seated muscles. Due to the nature of the pulse it is well accepted by all types of horses, even yearlings. Pulse Therapy follows Winks Greens ‘common sense’ approach to equine therapy. By viewing the horse as a whole it aims to fully address performance issues and improve muscle function. Whether it be by maintenance of muscle condition and assistance of muscle recovery or through correction of an injury and acceleration of healing To find out more visit www.ajspulsetherapy.com

Made to Measure Riding Boots Based in Berkshire, Demeter Boots produce handmade, high quality made-to-measure boots, using traditional methods. Monika Demeter says: “Making a new pair of boots is always a challenge, from the time the measurements are taken, to the moment when the completed, polished boots are handed over to their new owner. Even though new and more effective technologies have been introduced to the shoemaking industry, we believe that hand-sewn, custom-made boots make riders more confident and safe in their riding. It is the time when passion of riding and passion of making hand-crafted boots meet. If you have wide calves, slim ankles or extra short /or long legs, you have probably found it difficult to buy a pair of boots off-theshelf. Although handmade boots will usually cost more, made-tomeasure is priceless.” Customers can design their own boots, choosing the shape, captoe, brogueing, top, decoration, and colour. The new boots will be ready in just one month’s time. For designs and options visit www.demeterboots.com and for appointment contact customer services info@demeterboots.com or call 01628 315205.

NEWS Saddle Cleaning Top Tips The Saddle Clinic has provided some top tips to remind you how to clean your tack properly, plus they are offering one lucky reader the chance to win a Tack Cleaning Kit. For your chance to win, complete the entry form on page 34.

Don’t be lazy by cleaning your bridle while still in one piece. Take apart the components to make sure you thoroughly remove all of the dirt and condition everywhere. If you’ve used your bridle on the same horse for a long time, you’ll be able to see where it goes back together by the creases at the buckle holes. But, if it’s new, you may want to count the holes and make a note so it is easier to reassemble.

2

Choose products that are multi-purpose. As you use your tack, sweat, dirt and grease will all attack your leather, causing it to crack and discolour. Opt for a conditioner which also protects your leather in the future by helping to repel oil and water-based stains. This should cut down future cleaning time too.

3

If you have old saddles, bridles, girths or martingales lurking at the back of your tack room where the leather has become hard and brittle, it may be possible to revive it by using a product especially designed for older tack. Choose a cream-like product to nourish and soften the leather. Use a re-colouring balm to touch up any fading.

4

No matter how tempting it is when you come in wet and cold from hacking out or hunting, don’t leave cleaning your tack until the following day. Remove any mud and sweat with warm water and your leather cleaner before allowing it to dry away from direct heat.

5 6

Use a metal polish to clean up any buckles and rings to add a little extra sparkle to your tack if you’re entering any competitions. While you’re having a good clean, it’s the perfect chance to check for any damage. While proper cleaning and conditioning will elongate the life of your tack, nothing lasts forever. Look for wear and tear, check all the stitching, and take anything which needs mending to a specialist tack repairer. www.saddleclinic.co.uk

10 young horse lovers wanted for Harry Hall to sponsor Are you a horse-mad young rider between 8 and 18 years old with more than 500 followers on Social Media? Do you feel confident to write occasional blogs and to enjoy a first experience of riding with a sponsor? Ahead of its 125th birthday next year, Harry Hall clothing is looking for 10 such young riders to sponsor as a Harry Hall Junior Rider. The sponsorship package includes £600 of clothing per annum to wear, plus lots of Paige Wright other benefits too.

Paige Wright (right), a 10-yearold from Harrogate with big ambitions as a show jumper, is the first Harry Hall Junior Rider, She says: “It’s really exciting as a young rider to have a famous brand like Harry Hall supporting me in my riding. Some of the new designs from Harry Hall include lovely colourful, soft and safe clothes and I love wearing them when I’m riding at home.”

2015 sees the 10 year anniversary of Toggi’s association with the British Equestrian Federation and of the brand’s support of Equestrian Team GBR. In the 10 year partnership, Equestrian Team GBR has won 162 medals at senior level, with countless more at youth level and we are all hoping that 2015 will see that number rise. Sarah-Jane Fedarb, managing director for Toggi said: “Early on in our partnership with the BEF, the idea emerged to create a supporters collection to complement the team kit, which would allow the Nation to get involved and to show their support for our equestrian teams. The official Toggi Team GBR collection is the result, with its iconic red, white and blue theme and striking GBR branding. Not only does the supporters collection allow people to visually show their support for their British equestrian heroes, but as a percentage of sales goes back to the British Equestrian Federation to help generate additional funds for all equestrian disciplines, people are delighted to show their support and to do their part to help Great Britain remain a world beater in equestrian sports.” www.toggi.com

Tribute to Horse Rangers Colonel in Chief

T

he Horse Rangers Association (Hampton Court) have paid tribute to one of its longest serving members. Colonel in Chief Gerry Tribe, who was born in 1923, recently passed away at the age of 92. He discovered the work of the charity when he visited the Horse Rangers in 1968 to help his daughter Tina when she started to ride. She was only nineyears-old so Gerry would help her lift feed bowls and hay bales. The founder of the Horse Rangers, Raymond Gordon, recognising an ex-Navy man of great charm and ability, asked him if he would like to join the Horse Rangers as an officer, which he did in 1970. Everyone recalls what a kind, helpful and caring man he was; rarely raising his voice and always willing to give a hand or show how things should be done. He was appointed a Squadron Commandant, then Senior Adjutant and in 1977 Commanding Officer. His popularity never waned; as a contemporary Ranger commented, “When Gerry took on the CO role we were delighted for him and his new position and were secretly glad it wasn’t anyone strict! He was a real ‘Father Figure’ to us all; someone who we could have a bit of a laugh and a joke with and know that he would always be very fair and unbiased. An absolute gentleman; 24 carat”. Gerry retired from his appointment of Commanding Officer after an amazing 26 years and in 2004 became Colonel in Chief. In recognition of his massive contribution to Horse Rangers, the Board of Trustees made him an Honorary Life Member in 2009. Gerry continued to be a real supporter, coming to all the events in the Horse Ranger calendar; he was at the 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner last October and at this year’s Riding for the Disabled Open Day on 26th June, just a week before he passed away. Gerry Tribe was a legend in his lifetime and his memory will stay with the Horse Rangers who were lucky enough to know him for the rest of their lives. A very happy memory.

It washes well and dries quickly. This special design has some unique features for comfort and safety. There are two wide noseband openings to make the hood easier to pass over the face. The bottom noseband passes over the top of nose and the top noseband then passes between the ears and eyes and slips over the nose, covering the bottom noseband piece. The two nosebands are then fastened together under the jaw with the small velcro strap. This keeps the whole head piece in place and away from the eyes. Colours: Navy & Navy/Orange. Put To the Test The Kennel Club Pet Bed The Kennel Club pet bed collection has been produced by Scruffs, which supports The Kennel Club and all the work it does to help achieve its objective of making a difference for dogs. This luxurious bedding collection is upholstered with super-soft woven tweed and herringbone fabrics. Each bed is finished with faux suede piping and a faux leather logo patch. An integral 100% recycled green fibre filling secured in four places provides greater cushioning characteristics and enhanced durability during washing. The Kennel Club Pet Mattresses and Donut beds are available in a variety of sizes and colours. www.petslovescruffs.com LR Comment: I tested the Kennel Club Pet Mattress. It was supposed to be for my Labrador, but it was a case of whoever got there first, it was also popular with the Jack Russell and the cat! I found it well made and there was lots of padding to keep my dog comfortable, even though the mattress was on a tiled floor.

andy Osborn is a U.S. National GP Judge and has trained two horses up to Grand Prix level, with another currently in training. She has trained for the last 18 years with Dutch trainers, Roel Theunissen and Henk Van Bergen, who influence her own methods greatly. She scribes often for International Judges and wrote for Stephen Clarke at the World Cup in Las Vegas this year. As a trainer, Sandy believes strongly that a rider is either part of the problem or part of the solution. She focuses on developing the seat and position of the rider, so that the horse can find its balance underneath. She is positive and encouraging in her teaching style. Sandy will be teaching at Bodiam in East Sussex from 17th to 22nd August, (£50 for 45 minutes and £65 for one hour). To find out more about Sandy visit www.sandyosborndressage. com. To discuss or book a lesson contact Georgie Guest email: georgieguest@live.com – or telephone 07739 977792 or email Jane Pether: jane@cossetandcoddle.com or telephone 07515578174.

She was Regional Bridleway officer for BHS for many years, responsible for creating many circular riding routes in the South East. She was solely responsible for getting the Department of Transport to build a very elegant bridge over the M25 just north of Sevenoaks in Kent, to prevent them from diverting an existing bridlepath by several miles, and that bridge will remain a permanent memorial to her incredible efforts as a bridleway officer. Also she was an active competitive member of Endurance GB, riding in the Golden Horse Shoe Ride over Exmoor, and competing several different horses over the years. She also used to ride long distance to visit members of her family, riding from the Ashdown Forest in East Sussex to both Canterbury in Kent, and also to Exeter in Somerset. In her spare time Chris was an accomplished musician, playing both violin and piano, and helped with the local Riding for the Disabled group, continuing this well in into her retirement. She will be missed by her husband Alan White, and children, Maggie, Helen and Neville.

Worm

Control

Words by Gillian Booth SQP owner of Westgate Labs

Summer is a time horse owners enjoy more time with their horses, but essential aspects of parasite control are still required.

S

ummer is the time of the year that all horse owners look forward to, with more time to enjoy our horses and fewer chores to do. Some aspects of horse care are essential though and keeping parasites in control is one of them. At this time of year no one should still be giving routine wormers to healthy adult horses. It’s a time for testing using worm counts and possibly a tapeworm test, to find out if your horse needs any treatment and only dosing those who do. Effective worming products are simply too precious to use in a random ‘just in case’ dosing pattern. They won’t stay effective if wasted in that way. If the last test or worming dose was given in spring then by summer it’s time to test again. If you used Equest Pramox in winter to treat encysted worms and tapeworm then summer is the time to start using the Equisal tapeworm test based on a simple saliva sample taken by you at home.

Right: This image shows a pinworm sellotape test down the microscope. Using a test based approach to worm control is now well established as best practice from single horse owners to large yards. Leaving the old ways behind can seem daunting but you don’t need to worry just contact Westgate Labs for the most experienced and friendly help. Westgate has the longest established direct to owner worm count service and a reputation second to none. With proper laboratory facilities and using a quality test method, all backed up with qualified advice, you can be sure that your horse’s parasite control is in safe hands. We are passionate about what we do and want to help all horse owners get the best worm control tailored to their horse and situation. HICKSTEAD SHOW REPORT Trevor Breen and Loughnatousa WB Equestrian.com Hickstead Derby Champions 2015

Equestrian.com T Hickstead Derby Meeting

Thursday 25th June to Sunday 28th June 2015

Words by Julia Longland and pictures by Fiona Rafferty Trevor Breen and Loughnatousa WB jumped the only clear to win the Equestrian.com Derby

revor Breen wrote a new page for the records chapter of the Equestrian.com British Jumping Derby at Hickstead when he completed the second leg of an extraordinary Derby double by winning on Loughnatousa WB, a year after his victory on the one-eyed Adventure de Kannan. On Patricia Brown’s Loughnatoosa WB he was the first rider to score successive victories on different horses since Paul Schockemohle on Deister and Lorenzo in 1985-86 and Nick Skelton on J Nick in 1987 and Apollo in 19881989, but the 16-year-old Loughnatoosa WB, who won for Paul Beecher in 2012, became the first horse to win the Derby twice with two different riders. Irishman Breen, 36, who spent his early years hunting with the Scarteen Hunt in Co.Limerick, runs a breeding and training establishment near Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire with his wife Caroline and three-year-old daughter Mia. He described the Derby as: “Such a tough class, you need a lot to go right, but everything did. Loughnatoosa jumped out of his skin for me, the petrol tank was getting a bit low towards the end of the course, but he hung on.” There might have been a strange twist to the closing minutes in the first round of the Derby when Adventure de Kannan, drawn 33rd of the 37 starters, looked on the verge of jumping a clear round which would have forced Breen, already on a zero score from the sixth draw with Loughnatoosa, to jump off against himself. Then Addy with the one

Local combination Sue Bennett’s Carlow Cruiser, who had jumped the fences clear with Ronnie Healey in 2011, but was penalised for napping as he passed the ring entrance, lost rider Charlotte Platt with a difficult leap over the Derby rails last year, but went beautifully for Steven Franks this time, then spoilt a possible clear by clipping the exit rails from the Dyke. “Carlow Cruiser has great ability,” said Franks, “he is a lovely horse and I’m hoping he can come back for a couple more shots.” Joining the four-faulters were Billy Twomey and Diaghilev, and Nigel Coupe with Susan Simmons’ former working hunter Golvers Hill.

First-timer A notable first-timer was Alfie Bradstock, 21, the grandson of racing legend Lord Oaksey, who went round for just two mistakes on Graham Fletcher’s KBIS Caicos. Alfie’s father Mark trained Coneygree, bred by Lord Oaksey, to win this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup and his mother Sara is Lord Oaksey’s daughter. Talking of the Derby, which offers some £33,000 to the winner from its £99,000 prize fund Breen, whose brother Shane lives at Hickstead with his wife Chloe, Douglas Bunn’s youngest daughter and their family said: “Hickstead is traditional English showjumping at its very best. The facilities have been fantastically updated with a brand new grandstand. The Bunns have spent a lot of money to keep it all in good shape. Hats off to them for that.” The first ever Derby, in 1961, was won by Ireland’s legendary Seamus Hayes on Goodbye. Over the years the combinations have become household names, such as Marion Coakes and Stroller, who won in

Local combination, Steven Franks and Carlow Cruiser had four faults to finish joint-second.

1967 Lizzie Bunn, Hickstead’s exceptional Show Director, says that the year John Whitaker won it for her father on Buddy Bunn, 2004, was very special, and the victory in 1996 by his lifelong friend Nelson Pessoa on Loro Piana Vivaldi, “brought tears.”

Turbo Charged Dougie Douglas The two major classes leading up to the Derby, the Bunn Leisure Derby Trial, and the British Speed Derby for the Liz Dudden Memorial Trophy, went respectively to an international newcomer Holly Gillott on Dougie Douglas, afterwards selected for the British team at Hickstead’s forthcoming Royal International Horse Show, and seasoned campaigner Guy Williams with Casper de Muze, who took the speed derby for the second year running in the fastest time on record. Gillott, 26, who hunts with the Quorn in Leicestershire and rides horses owned by James Mossman, a Master of the Quorn, challenged last of seven in the jump-off for the Derby Trial and managed to shave 0.96 seconds from the standard set by Harriet Nuttall and her long-striding A Touch Imperious. Nuttall has also grown up with a hunting background as her father Rupert is Master of the Blackmore & Sparkford Vale in Dorset. Both A Touch Imperious and Dougie

Douglas came from Gorsebridge sales in Ireland, but while the compact Dougie Douglas can push on easily, Nuttall cannot give her tall horse the same treatment. “He has a lot of scope,” said Nuttall, “he is very careful but you can’t ask him too much.” Gillott said: “I had no idea what anybody else had done in the jump-off, but I thought I would touch the turbo. I have spent a lot of time this year saving him for Nations Cups.” (She had 12 faults and a clear round in Rome to help Britain to win that hotly contested cup.)

New course record Nuttall, who is determined to shake off her persistent bridesmaid image of permanent second place, was also runner-up in the British Speed Derby for the Liz Dudden Trophy, riding her neat grey Silver Lift to finish 0.44 seconds behind Guy Williams on Casper de Muze. “I knew I had to gain strides,” said Williams, 43, who overtook Shane Breen’s course record of 91.96 seconds by 1/100th of a second. Casper de Muze recorded another success in the Bunn Leisure Masters challenge, a competition which had Table A and Table C sections, and Casper de Muze was very fast round the timed Section C, and foot perfect down the line of four white gates, to clock a time over four seconds faster than Nuttall on Silver Lift.

eye decided the issue by lowering no.12, the Derby rails, and no.14, to eventually share seventh place with six others on eight faults. “Loughnatoosa is a great horse,” said Breen, “Paul (Beecher) bred and produced him from his Co.Waterford stud, riding him until two years ago and must take great credit. Patricia Brown who owns him, is a huge supporter. To win once is a dream come true, to win twice is surreal.” In 2014 the two 4-faulters jumped off and Breen recalled: “There was only 2/100ths of a second between me on Adventure de Kannan and Philip Miller on Caritiar Z last year.” Miller, the 2013 winner on Caritiar Z, finished equal seventh this time. “To be wishing others to have poles down is not nice, particularly as Harriet Nuttall (equal second after lowering the first rail of the Devil’s Dyke with A Touch Imperious) and Philip are good friends of mine.” William Whitaker on Glenavadra Brilliant, a 17 hh chestnut having his third Derby attempt, lost rhythm descending the steep Bank and caught no.9, the rail at the bottom. “He got a bit strong and I couldn’t steady him enough as we went down. He has such a big stride and we got too close at the bottom,” said William, who rode a class round and was the first of the five 4-faulters to share second place.

Guy Williams and Casper de Muze set a new course record in the British Speed Derby.

hen competing, there’s no denying that if you look the part, you will feel more confident, and give a good impression. Most women who have the finances to ride and compete are busy, working people, and many are mothers; this means that most of us are of average build, with the odd lump or bump here and there. However, there’s no reason why you can’t look the part and feel confident, whatever your size or shape. There are generally considered to be four main types of female body shape: Apple shape (round), Pear shape (bottom heavy), Hourglass shape (curvy) and Rectangle shape (relatively straight up and down). It’s important you spend some time kindly critiquing yourself, before purchasing your outfit.

Apple shape - your friends say you have great legs, however you have some fullness around the middle that you may like to minimise. A fancy stock and ‘blingy’ pin will put more attention on your top half; go for high waisted, well cut beige breeches (ideally without a belt) to comfortably support your tummy - hunting breeches, such as Horseware Ladies Aylesbury Hunting Breeches, are ideal - and a jacket with obvious shoulder definition and sufficient length so that your tummy is not too exposed, like the Shires Ladies Cotswold Show Jacket. If your calves are wide, then choose made to measure boots or those in wide sizes, so they do not look too tight. Dublin’s ‘On Air Stretch Dress Boots’ feature a leather-look rear stretch panel on the calf, providing around 2cm of ‘stretch’.

You can make a statement with eye catching buttons, as seen on the Horseware Ladies Competition Shirt.

Top tips for all sizes 1. Check your underwear for VPLs and consider seam free versions. Lace is a ‘no go’ as it creates bumps. 2. Double rear jacket vents are always flattering. 3. Wear a good sports bra for comfort and a nice silhouette. 4. Match your gloves and breeches, for a smart look. 5. Choose machine washable fabrics - Polyester and cotton blends wash well. 6. Consider your horse’s colouring when choosing your single coloured show jacket or subtly-patterned tweed jacket. 7. Wear a securely fastened ‘two point’ helmet meeting industry standards.

Pear shape - you carry more weight on your hips or thighs but have a clearly defined waist that you can show off. Choose tailored jackets that make your shoulders look broader (velvet collars raise the eye line), and finish above the widest point of your hips and bottom - Shires Ladies Kingston Show Jacket is a good example. Blingy stock pins and bold stock patterns will draw the eye upwards, while you can rock a white pair of high waisted breeches like Hy Performance Competition Ladies Breeches, which have a Polymide, Cotton, and Lycra material blend.

Images by Horseware

Hourglass shape - the envy of many females, you have a wellbalanced body shape with your shoulders and hips in line, a welldefined bust, and a nipped in waist. Choose stretchy, belted breeches, ideally in beige - Shires Ladies SaddleHugger Breeches are very nice, with a four-way stretch knitted fabric - and a jacket that flatters the female form; the Horseware Ladies Competition Jacket would be a bold choice but it is softshell, and form fitting to show off your balanced shape. Show off your waist with a snazzy belt and remember to invest in a good sports bra, to add a smoother silhouette. Rectangle shape - you have a moderately straight shoulder and ribcage line, and may be fairly petite in your clothes size; you may like to try to create the illusion of a waist and curves with a jacket that gently shapes the waist but does not ‘nip you in’ - we like the Horseware Embellished Ladies Show Jacket. Exaggerated pocket details, detailing at the hips and a fancy stock will help. (Avoid vertical pin stripes if you are choosing a tweed). You can wear hipster or low waisted breeches in a light colour including white we like the Horseware Ladies Woven Competition Breeches. august 2015 Localrider 27

My 10-year-old 16hh showjumping mare is fine when we school at home at our livery yard, but when we compete, even if it is at a show held at the same yard, which is Speedgate Equestrian, she lowers her head and ‘takes hold’. I currently ride her in a loose ring jointed snaffle and I would like to try something that aids her attention to my cues. KN

Bitting Q&As By Stephen Biddlecombe of Equine Management, distributors of Bombers Bits

A

You could try a sweet iron bit for starters, which heighten the horse’s awareness of the bit in the mouth. Sweet iron also oxidises easily and encourages salivation. Bombers Equestrian Equipment Bits has a lovely bit called the Buster Roller Petros Loose Ring – it is best suited to a horse with a low head carriage that leans on the bit. When the rein is used, the increased pressure on the bar will help lift the horse’s head – meanwhile, the loose ring provides a quickThe Buster Roller Petros Loose Ring is release effect, for accurate best suited to a horse with a low head rein aids. carriage that leans on the bit. The rotating Petros mouthpiece, which features a 40mm roller that increases pressure on the horse’s tongue, prevents the horse taking hold of the bit – it is precisely positioned at 45°, to follow the contour of the tongue. This bit retails for £63.80 exc VAT, and is ideally suited to experienced riders who ride sensitively.

How do bits work? Bits are just part of the communication process between rider and horse, and exert pressure on some or all of the following parts of a horse’s mouth, internally: • The bars (the gummy sections between the incisor and molar teeth) • Roof of the mouth • Tongue – especially the sensitive edges • Lips and corners of the mouth Externally, bits put pressure on the following parts of the horse’s mouth: • Poll areas beneath the headpiece of the bridle • The curb groove which is the ‘hollow’ just above the chin Always make sure you maintain regular equine dental checks. Dental checks by an equine dental technician or vet are recommended at least once a year, to ensure the horse is comfortable, and to avoid longer-term mouthing and bitting problems.

Q

My 18-year-old loan mare sometimes shakes her head when schooling. Back, teeth and tack checks are all clear. I ride her in a loose ring French link snaffle and my dressage instructor says the horse is simply evading. What bit may suit her? MR

A

Your horse may just have a sensitive tongue, The Elliptical Loose Ring is ideal for a horse that uses as headshaking is its tongue as a means of pushing against the bit. a classic symptom, and is a way of avoiding pressure; horses with sensitive tongues may also put the tongue out, or over the bit. Because horses are flight animals, they do not yield to pressure or pain, but instead move away from it. You are right to work with relevant experts to help solve your mare’s problem – presumably neurological issues have also been ruled out. You could try her in a sweet iron bit, as they oxidise easily, encouraging salivation and acceptance. One potential bit is the Elliptical Loose Ring from Bombers Equestrian Equipment Bits. The bit features a 45 mm lozenge in the centre; it has a small surface area, so a horse that uses its tongue as a means of pushing against the bit will draw back to a better point of control. This bit retails for £45.83 exc VAT.

Creating your Perfect Yard

At some point in time most horse owners will consider buying a house with stables or even a larger equestrian property. Here we share some points to consider during your search, plus we talk to two arena specialists who give advice on both installing a new arena as well as upgrading an existing one. An aerial shot of one of Day Equestrian’s newly built arenas.

The arena at Mayfield School

T

here are an increasing number of small farms coming onto the market in the South East. They have previously been run as small farms and small holdings and whilst some already have stables, most offer plenty of scope for development, enabling you to build your perfect yard and equestrian home.

Points to consider • C onsider the use of existing outbuildings as whilst they might provide luxury accommodation for your horses, there may also be a more profitable use such as the conversion to an annex or holiday let. This could provide you with additional income from horse/rider B & B or holiday opportunities. Consider taking advice on alternative uses before you begin any works, especially on what planning permission might be required. • I f you have extra grassland surplus to your needs, you could consider an arrangement with a local farmer to allow grazing for other animals or for hay or silage making. • H aving your own land means you could create your own offroad riding tracks or even a cross country course, which could be hired out to others to use. • C reating extra stables for livery use is a good way of creating extra income • You will pay less per acre for lower quality land, Grade III pasture for example, and remember such land can often be improved with correct management and better drainage.

Building an arena Day Equestrian share these tips on building a new arena: 1. C onsider privacy, flood risk and planning permission when choosing the location for your new arena. You will need hard standing access to and from your arena, both for construction work and eventual usage. 2. D ecide how to build the arena - we recommend using an experienced equestrian contractor. If you are feeling confident enough to tackle the work yourself, take a look at the simple step-by-step arena construction guides at www.dayequestrian.co.uk/guides 3. C omplete your new arena with a high quality surface. Depending on personal preference and budget, a few of the popular options available include: Wax coated surfaces – Low maintenance and long-lasting, wax coated surfaces do not need irrigation and are easy to install. We manufacture wax coated surfaces installed in many popular equestrian centres in the South East of England. Sand and fibre surfaces – A popular, economical option is mixing sand and fibre together on site or choosing a premixed sand and fibre surface. Like any dry sand-based surface, watering is required to stay at optimum performance. Sand and rubber surfaces – This is an inexpensive and durable option which reduces the chance of your surface freezing in winter. To find out more about Day Equestrian’s range of arena surfaces and arena construction materials visit www.dayequestrian.co.uk or call 0845 006 6444. 30 Localrider august 2015

Stubbs Knock Knock

Idolo Tether Tie

The eyecatching Stubbs ‘Knock Knock’, from Abbey England, will be irresistible to any horse lover. The stylish and practical knocker is ideal for the house, tack room or saddlers shop and it makes a perfect present. The genuine horse shoes fitted with a solid wrought iron ball give an impressive feel and a deep clunking sound. The solid steel horse shoes are available in two versions: Bright Zinc Plated, or STUBBYFINE coated in Black. www.abbeyengland.com

The Original Rug Bag Keeping horse rugs neat and clean has always been a challenge, but not anymore. the Original Rug Bag has been designed to fit around your rugs whilst hanging on a rug rail, it also cleverly doubles as a travel Bag making transporting your rugs easy and compact. Protecting your rugs from dust, dirt, water and creepy crawlies, it also makes your tack room look neat and tidy.

Idolo has noticed horse owners looking for an alternative to baler twine for tying up horses, due to the amount of accidents caused as a result of using it. Roy French of Idolo Tether Tie says: “We have been trying to highlight this problem for some time. Chatting to people at the big shows and events, we have heard of a huge number of nasty incidents and accidents resulting from horses being tied to baler twine. Badminton Horse Trials was a breakthrough for us, with interest from professional eventers including Millie Dumas, who watched our demonstration, took some to try and now endorses the tether tie.” Millie said: “These are the safest and best product out there that I have come across. We now have these on our yard and in our horse boxes, and we are now baler twine free!” Horse health also believes that baler twine should be a tying system of the past and the Idolo Tether Tie is now available to purchase from their website. When tying your horse you should really ask yourself if you can release him or if he can release himself in a panic situation? and if he does break loose do you want your horse running around the yard, which could result in unnecessary injury. The Idolo tether tie is an easy solution to this and as it says on our new packaging, we are “probably the best horse safety tie in the Equestrian World!” www.idolotethertie.com

YARD FEATURE Riding in the UK is rarely for the fair weathered - from the recent heat wave to the deepest depths of frosty winter, we expect our horses to brave the elements as we do, and the surfaces we ride our horses on have never been more important to their well being, soundness, and longevity. So how do you ensure your arena surface is not only providing the support you and your horse need, but is also to remain in peak condition despite weather extremes and constant use and abuse for many years to come.

Upgrading Your Arena

Time for a new surface?

Whether a busy livery yard, or competition venue, we are using our arenas more than ever, expecting the surface to suit a range of different disciplines and be ready to use, whatever the weather. So where do you start when looking to install a new area? And what do you do when your existing surface no longer suits your needs? A surface that isn’t performing is at best, annoying and distributive, and worse, potentially injury causing, but re-constructing an arena is a costly business, so what options are available for improving what you already have? Surface top-ups and additives are quickly becoming a more affordable solution. Many are available; however all of the surfaces offered by Equestrian Direct can be used alone or for top-ups, and are compatible with all types of existing surfaces; making for a LIS AB H

Keep your fields in tip-top shape with the Paddock Groomer

Seeking UK Distributor

T

he Paddock Groomer is the fast, simple, effective and affordable manure and debris collection machine for horse owners. You simply attach it to your towing vehicle and as you drive around your paddocks it collects horse manure and debris, such as small stones, leaves and sticks, while also helping smooth over dirt clods, leaving your paddocks cleaner and smoother in minutes. Manufactured in New Zealand and soon to be available in the UK, it has been designed with robustness and ease of use in mind. The entire Paddock Groomer body is made of very strong, tough, durable plastic that won’t rot or fade, making the machine relatively lightweight to handle and means it can be easily towed by a quad bike, ATV or ride-on mower. It features a chain-driven rotating brush system that sweeps up manure and debris into the collection tray, plus a unique spring mechanism that allows the Groomer to follow the ground making it effective for use on both flat and undulating paddocks. There is no stopping or starting required like vacuums and no motor means no additional fuel cost. Paddock Groomer’s are already popular in New Zealand on small lifestyle and equine properties, allowing horse owners to easily clean paddocks every few days, once a week or as it suits, saving time, assisting in healthier horses and keeping paddocks tidier. The manufacturers of this exciting machine are currently seeking a UK representative to assist with marketing and sales. For more information visit www.PaddockGroomer.co.nz

Buying or selling horses abroad? You could save thousands by avoiding your bank

A

lastair Archbold, Foreign Exchange Manager and dedicated broker for the Equestrian Industry at the Foremost Currency Group, explains that if you are buying or selling horses abroad you may be paying more than necessary for your currency conversion. “When buying or selling horses, it’s often the case that the purchase needs to be made in Euros, if buying from Ireland or mainland Europe Alastair Archbold for example. The natural inclination is to use your bank to arrange the transfer; however this is usually a very expensive way of doing it. Banks are good at some things, however foreign currency exchange isn’t one of them. You can make big savings by using a specialist foreign exchange broker, who can help clients achieve exchange rates significantly better than the high street banks can offer, sometimes by as much as 5%. This doesn’t sound like much but when you’re converting a large sum, this can equate to a saving of thousands of pounds. The currency markets can be incredibly volatile. Exchange rates change every few seconds, sometimes fluctuating by several percent over the course of a day. Banks usually provide a daily exchange rate that is fixed for the day, and is usually quite wide to account for any variations in the rate. In comparison, a currency broker buys currency ‘live’ from market and so can achieve much better rates of exchange.

Case Study Mr Robinson was purchasing a horse from Ireland, and found out about the Foremost Currency Group through British Showjumping. Horses can be very expensive, and when spending €50,000.00 getting the best possible rate of exchange is paramount, and so he decided to get in touch with Foremost Currency’s equestrian specialist Alastair Archbold, to see how much of a better deal he could get compared to his bank. It was a prudent move, as the exchange rate provided was 3.5 cents better than the bank exchange rate, meaning that by using Foremost Currency Group to exchange his funds, the overall saving was more than £1200.00. Mr Robinson said: “The exchange rate was much better than the bank, and the process was refreshingly simple and easy. Efficient, reliable, great rates and great service. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.”

“We are committed to shaking up currency exchange by operating in a smarter, leaner and more efficient way, passing the savings onto you and getting you a better rate; every time you trade. Say goodbye to impersonal service and hello to your new broker. Committed to working on your behalf to get you the very best deal possible.” Robin McEwen, Founder and Managing Director

Laura Powell writes...

I am feeling fantastic as I write this month, as Alf is now fully up and running and we have just returned home with fourth place at Eridge horse trials, finishing on our dressage score of 29.3! He felt the best he’s ever felt. I’ve had so much support from everyone in getting him back out competing and it means a lot. He also had a good run at Tweseldown the week before, but had a pole in the show jumping after getting a little over excited warming-up next to the start of the cross-country. He picked up a few time faults, but still finished eleventh in a competitive section.

www.celiahammond.org

Ups & downs at Tweseldown Also running at Tweseldown were Meg and Nessa. Meg was fantastic and really straight cross-country although rather strong! She has a massive engine, but is still fairly weak and so the canter can tend to run away. In competitions this means there can be a little bit of arguing when I try to set her up again, so we are going to change her bit until she can hold herself more. Meg still finished in ninth place. Nessa meanwhile was feeling on fantastic form after a 32 dressage and a pole show jumping. I’d already ridden Meg around the course so half knew what to expect. Half way round I completely lost my marbles and let her run in a big flat canter to a relatively short four stride combination. It was only when I jumped in that I realised how much of an idiot I was and I fell out of the side door at the second part, having put her in an impossible position to jump the fence. To make matters worse I fell on the footpath, which was like concrete and now have a well-deserved sore bottom! I got back on and jumped the fence properly then finished the rest of the course. Homework for Nessa Nessa also ran at Eridge in a hotly contested five-year-old section. After coming next to last on the dressage with 36, and a sheet full of comments ‘poll too low’ I realised she isn’t mature enough in the body to move up a level and be competitive yet. She then proved she isn’t mature enough in her brain either as she gaped round the show jumping, looking at the many tradestands and crowds taking four poles with her. I fear she is a bit slow at the moment and once I lose her concentration that’s it. I decided not to run her cross-country and will enter for another BE90. I know it’s all there - especially when she jumped the most fantastic double clear at Pyecombe British Showjumping recently in their new spooky arena, but of course it didn’t have the same buzzy atmosphere as Eridge. Now Nessa and Meg head to Borde Hill and I have to make a bit more of a plan for Alf, who has already qualified for the Blenheim Eventer’s challenge, so that’s something to look forward to. girths

Childéric Silhouette Girth The Childéric Silhouette Girth is a super stylish dressage girth, which has been designed to help solve the problem of saddles moving forward. Most saddles move forward because the build and movement of the horse is such that the girth cannot stay back and therefore wants to move and take with it the saddle. Created to utilize the power and shape of the horse, this girth has been designed to help keep the girth and ultimately the saddle in the ideal place for the horse and rider. This girth also helps the even distribution of pressure even on a horse’s narrow girthing area. It features triple thick elasticated ends for excellent saddle stability and an ergonomic cut to ensure even distribution of pressure, the shape of the girth allows the girth to sit in the correct position, without catching the horse around the sensitive area behind the elbow and eliminating the possibility of trapping the muscles. The girth can also be adjusted in width for a bespoke fit if required. Colours: Irish, Black and Master. Short Girth Sizes: 45cm – 85cm. Long Girth Sizes: 110cm – 180cm. RRP from: £240.00 www.childericsaddles.co.uk LR Comment: Definitely designed to fit the horse. I hadn’t struggled with the current girth I use, but look forward to seeing if my marks improve in this one. The elasticated buckles, give a little when needed, whereas traditional girths can be quite restricting. I also like the carabiner clip, to allow one to attach training aids easily.

This technical performance pad is designed to mould to the unique contours of the horse’s back. Ideal for sensitive equines, the Acupressure range combines excellent shock absorbency with a subtle massaging action to aid comfort and relaxation. The natural latex material offers remarkable ‘bounce back’ qualities, while small, breathable vacuum tunnels draw hot air away from the back to improve sweat evaporation and help keep the saddle area cool. Features a high wither design, extra spine space and a soft, anti-slip lining.

Made from KM Elite superior quilted fabric. It has a velcro girth fastening and D-Ring Velcro attachments for easy fitting. It is part of the KM Elite Distinction range.

the pad, but it certainly felt like the saddle wasn’t sitting so heavily on the horse’s back. It had a cushioning effect on the rider too, absorbing some of the movement that normally comes through the saddle and is absorbed by the rider. Would recommend trying.

leMieux prosport suede Jump square The underside of this pad is a towelling flannel that absorbs sweat, minimising friction and maximising comfort for the horse. The topside is a luxurious suede with a subtle sheen. There are several attractive colours for working at home as well as a white for competition use. Features include double velcro girth straps with optional inner locking loop to prevent slipping. The D-Ring straps are contoured to give better fit and allow breast plate attachments. The pad also has a Swan Neck design and strengthened girth protection area. RRP: £39.95 www.horsehealth.co.uk LR Comment: I use a very forward cut jumping saddle and found this pad the perfect fit and was also pleased to find the Velcro straps in the right place. It is a bit thicker than some of the pads I use and I felt it stayed in place was comfortable for the horse and had great wicking properties. I will definitely be buying another one.

Whitaker colourful saddle pad This comfy foam stuffed saddle pad is 4mm thick and comes with Whitaker print and embroidery. Colours: Red, Navy, Black and Yellow Size: Full size only www.johnwhitaker. com LR Comment: The saddle pad is smart enough to be used for competitions and yet also practical enough for everyday use. It washes well and maintained its shape and colour.

Training with Horses Do you spend all day dreaming of working with horses? Have you taken your GCSEs or A’levels and are wondering what to do next? If the answer to either of these questions is yes then a course at one of the local equestrian colleges could set you on a career path working with horses.

W

hether you are hoping to qualify to be a trainee riding instructor, competition groom, or to combine your passion for horses with a career in event management, retail, horse rehabilitation and therapy, nutrition, Merrist Wood College, near Guildford in Surrey has a course suitable for you. The college has courses at all levels from Level 1 to BA (Hons) level, full and part time, day and evening. Courses have a strong vocational emphasis, providing commercial awareness and practical competence for a range of careers and abilities. Develop your riding skills, examine horse behaviour and welfare and learn about the industry in areas such as equine fitness and training, horse husbandry, animal science, presentation of horses, equine rehabilitation and therapy, road safety.

How do I know if the course is right for me?

One of the greatest frustrations in choosing a career path, while you are still at school is not knowing about all the wonderful interesting jobs there are and where your chosen qualification might lead you. Having a good equine qualification could lead to positions working all around the world, and with experience lead to any number of roles in ancillary companies, working in the fields of equine rehabilitation, equine nutrition or even working behind the scenes at equine events and shows. If you have an idea of what you would like to do try and speak to people who are already working in that position. For example if you would like to be an event groom try and speak to a groom at

Students at Merrist Wood College

an event to find out what qualifications they have and any advice they can give you about college and finding a job afterwards. If you are approaching someone unannounced check that they have five minutes to talk to you and if they don’t ask if there is a convenient time for you to talk later. Most riders and their staff are contactable via email, facebook or twitter, but do this privately and politely. If you ask the right questions they may also be able to advise if they have any knowledge of the local colleges and the courses they provide.

Work experience

Work experience and good references will be important when you are looking for a job. Try and gain as much experience as you can working in your holidays. Sometimes you have to make opportunities for yourself. If you want to work in a particular discipline such as showing and you are able to work even for a week voluntarily for a top show producer, make the most of the opportunity, watching when you are not working and asking about anything you don’t understand. Remember to leave a good impression, because even years down the line that connection could make the difference to whether you get your dream job or not. When you have done your research and have decided which course will suit you best speak to the college you hope to attend about the course you have chosen. They will be able to reassure you BHA CIR Ad (Make your) - 91x132 17/1/12 14:12 Page 1 that you have made the correct choice or guide you to consider a more suitable one. 223x275mm CareersInRacing_Ad2.pdf

Summer SUPPLEMENTS

Working and competing your horses on hard ground in hot weather can put extra strain on your horse’s body. Here we look at a selection of supplements which may benefit your horse this summer… NAF Five Star Superflex Five Star Superflex is the right combination; a scientifically balanced ratio of readily absorbed Glucosamine Sulphate 2KCl and Chondroitin, the highest quality MSM plus the added benefits of a powerful anti-oxidant formula, exclusively designed to address excess free radical build up around the joint. Five Star Superflex has been developed by international veterinary scientists to provide horses and ponies across all disciplines with the ultimate joint support. www.naf-equine.eu/uk

NAF Five Star Magic Five Star Magic is a magnesium calmer with a difference. It’s a five star formula that contains a unique combination of herbs and nutrients known to help relax muscle tissue and support concentration. It contains magnesium, an essential nutrient to a horse’s wellbeing - among its many roles is the regulation of nervous tension. As magnesium also acts on muscle tension, a horse low in magnesium may appear ‘tight’ in his way of going and express excitability or a lack of confidence. To support the benefits of magnesium, Five Star Magic also contains a blend of herbs chosen for their traditional use in supporting confidence and concentration. The unique blend of nutrients enables the horse to tackle all that is asked of it, calmly and confidently. Five Star Liquid Magic has the advantage of extracting the active ingredients from the herbs, making them more readily available for absorption by the horse. The calming effects can be seen fast. When stress and anxiety is spoiling performance, feed Five Star Magic daily to support confidence and concentration so that you can really get the most out of your horse or pony. www.naf-equine.eu/uk

NAF Electro Salts When horses work, or during hot weather, they regulate their body temperature by sweating. Sweating not only loses fluid as it evaporates, but also essential body salts, particularly sodium, potassium, chloride and magnesium. Failure to replace these body salts (known as electrolytes) can result in fatigue, and damage to muscle, bone and cartilage tissue. Electro Salts is a balanced combination of the essential plasma salts, (sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride and magnesium) in combination with dextrose to aid efficient absorption of the salts. Electro Salts should be fed following any hard work, or regularly during periods of hot weather. Electro Salts can be added easily to feed, or dissolved in water. Remember it is essential that horses have plenty of water available to them when taking any electrolytes. Electro Salts is a balanced combination of the essential plasma salts designed to be fed following hard work or during regular periods of hot weather, to ensure you replace the salts required to rehydrate your horse or pony. www.naf-equine.eu/uk

Mobility Horslyx Mobility Horslyx is a nutrient rich lick containing Glucosamine HCl, MSM and Omega Oils, all vital to support optimum joint function. Mollichaff Alfalfa Oil Alfalfa supplies not only a great source of highly digestible fibre, but high quality protein along with naturally low levels of sugar and starch. It is also a great natural source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, including Vitamin E and selenium. Mollichaff Alfalfa Oil from HorseHage contains the nutrient rich leaf as well as the stalk of the plant. It combines pure alfalfa with a generous dressing of pure soya oil and contains no molasses. It provides controlled energy and condition with an energy level similar to that of a medium energy hard feed. Because this is ‘slow-release’ energy, it will not cause the fizziness or excitability associated with grains. It can be used as part of the forage ration or in place of hard feed.

OUR SERVICES The team of 17 dedicated equine vets provide veterinary services throughout East and West Sussex, and into Surrey and Hampshire. All aspects of equine practice are catered for including pre-purchase examinations, lameness investigations, performance horse management, dentistry, medical evaluations and stud medicine (AI chilled/frozen, embryo transfer), as well as all routine veterinary management. We provide a full range of on the road digital diagnostic services such as x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy/gastroscopy. The practice has the back up of the RCVS Accredited Hospital, staffed by vets 24 hours a day, where a range of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries can be carried out, patients can be hospitalised, sick foals can be nursed and bone scans can be performed. An onsite laboratory allows samples to be processed rapidly.

FEED NEWS NAF sponsored rider Chris Burton competing in the one star competition at Hartpury Horse Trials

Kate Hore RNutr (Animal), Snr Nutritionist at NAF explains why your horse may need nutritional supplements this summer.

Summer Supplements With warmer weather and longer hours of daylight, summer is the time we can really enjoy our horses. Whether it’s a weekend competition or an evening pub ride, now is the time to get out there and have fun – but it’s no fun if your horse or pony isn’t fit and well enough to cope with the increased demands of summer. So it’s just worth taking a few moments to consider those and ensure that all requirements are being met. Balancing the diet With plenty of grass around horses often have very little in the way of hard feed over summer. This is no bad thing. Grazing is the natural choice for your horse, and in most cases adequate pasture will meet all the major requirements of his diet, that is, the energy and protein required for work. But what about the micronutrients? Our soil is prone to leaching vitamins and minerals, and in many parts of the UK nutrient deficiencies in grazing are well recognised. So it is advised to balance the diet using a broad spectrum multi-vitamin and mineral supplement or a concentrated balancer which can provide all the essential micronutrients without requiring a large feed to be given.

Electrolyte losses

Some of the most important nutrients over summer are the electrolytes, those essential body ions that are lost through sweat when the horse works, particularly in warm weather. The major electrolytes are sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium and chloride. The most important of these is salt, sodium chloride, and to meet your horse’s requirement for this essential nutrient simply hang a salt lick in the field and stable and let them help themselves. Salt is the one nutrient that horses have been shown to self-select, that is, take what they require – but be careful with flavoured licks, as these are likely to be taken too greedily. Basic salt should be upgraded to broad spectrum electrolytes when the horse has worked hard, or in particularly warm weather. Electrosalts can be given in water or a nice wet feed, and make sure clean, fresh water is always available.

Supporting Joints

Your horse is often working harder over summer, with longer hours ridden, more competitions and fast work. When we also consider this is a time when the ground is hardened by dry weather conditions, which will increase the concussive forces on the legs, then we have to think about looking after our horse’s joints to ensure we maintain soundness. But it’s not just about keeping a horse sound to work, we also want to think about optimising performance. Recent studies have shown that by using the right joint support supplement on sound horses we see improvements in their way of going, such as longer stride lengths, greater joint flexion and less time spent in the stance phase of the stride, i.e. when the legs are on the ground. How this shows itself in the competing horse is as more elevated, expressive strides – something we all strive towards.

Keep Calm

Horses are natural ‘flight’ animals, if something concerns them they turn and run. Of course, if that trigger is a flapping banner or tanoy announcement in the ring then our chances of a successful outing are ruined. So it is far better to support the horse in maintaining a calm, focused approach from the start. Natural choices include magnesium, which is often lacking in grazing and so supplementation will be required. Recent research in Australia is backing up what riders have observed for years, which is that the panic reaction times can be slowed by supplementing with magnesium, even when the diet already meets magnesium requirements. However, for the required balance of calmness and confidence avoid using magnesium alone. Like most things in nature, magnesium will work best as part of the right synergistic blend with traditional herbs for a calm outlook and winning performance. However, care is also advised here. Herbs with a sedative action, such as valerian, are considered doping and banned for affiliated competition. Besides you are not looking to sedate the horse, but help him cope with what is required of him. The right nutritional blend will result in a horse who is actually more forward going, and more expressive, as he says to himself ‘Right, I can cope with this, let’s do it!’ When to feed calmers is an individual question. For the naturally nervous, and those that stress condition off themselves, calmers can be safely supplemented on a daily basis. If, however, you know it is just the excitement of show days that your horse or pony struggles with then look for short term, fast acting, support for when it’s most needed.

Conclusion

The right targeted nutritional support will ensure you and your horse can enjoy all the long, hot summer months have to offer. AUGUST 2015 Localrider 71

Performance issues and ‘bad behaviour‛ in horses can be caused by deep seated pain that is difficult to detect and treat. Using the WG Transeva releases deep tissue strains and aids in the healing of tendon, ligament and joint injuries. The result, freedom of movement, stronger stride and a happier horse.
