ooking back over the last month I am shocked at how much I have been able to squeeze in. With so many wonderful shows and competitions throughout July and August, I haven’t wanted to miss a thing. Straight after the August issue went to print I spent a glorious Saturday in the wonderful parkland setting of Syon House watching the Longines Global Champions Tour. In a tight jump-off John Whitaker almost pulled off a home win with Argento, John Whitaker and Argento at the Longines but lost out to Rolf-Goran Bengtsson Global Champions Tour in Syon Park by eighth-hundredths of a second. If you have never been to a Longines Global Champions Tour competition, I urge you to consider it a date for your diary in 2016. They guarantee top class showjumping in beautiful surroundings with boutique equestrian shopping.

Royal International Horse Show The following week the office relocated to our stand at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead. It is always wonderful to meet so many readers and we loved hearing all of your stories. A huge number of you subscribed and for all of those new subscribers, we hope you enjoy this issue. If you missed us at Hickstead, but would like to have Localrider delivered to your door each month, we still have a fantastic offer, 11 issues for £20 (turn to page 78 to read more). Besides the weather the other great thing about Hickstead was watching so many of our local riders do so well and we were grateful to all of you who called by the stand to keep us up to date with your results. She might not be local, but it was also a privilege to watch Beezie Madden win the King George V Gold Cup again, 1962 was the last time anyone had back to back wins. Turn to page 14 to read more about the history of this wonderful trophy and Beezie’s spectacular win. Next on the agenda was a trip to Daniel Watson’s Fiddlers Green Stud in Kent to watch Pippa Greenwood have the first of 12 training sessions she won with Daniel in a competition we ran earlier this year. Daniel gave Pippa plenty of good advice and lots to work on before her next lesson and we look forward to documenting their progress over the coming months.

Life on the motorway Much of the following week was spent on the M25/M40, firstly when I headed to Birmingham for MODA, to view next summer’s fashion must haves. I discovered some exciting new brands and hope to be able to share some of their gorgeous jackets and accessories in future fashion features. Next it was Stoneleigh for the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show. Riders from the Localrider region were competing in the British Showjumping Club Championships and I was proud to support them from the ringside. Despite the torrential rain, they all seemed to have a wonderful time and really enjoyed the experience of a Championship event (see page 26).

Good results in Aachen In between my motorway dashes I was keeping an eye on activities in Aachen. The British Dressage Team took silver and Charlotte and Valegro two individual Golds. The scores were incredibly tight at the top and I can only anticipate what a thrilling competition the Olympics in Rio will be. Francesca Sternberg and Doug Allen were part of the British Reining Team in Aachen, they each posted good individual results, with the team finishing just outside the medals (see page 24). As September approaches I am having difficulty containing my excitement at being able to support five local riders at the Eventing Championships at Blair Castle in Scotland. It is always a thrill to have a ‘local’ on a squad and to have so many this year is fantastic. We wish them all the best of luck. Whatever you are up to remember to keep us updated with all your news. SEPTEMBER 2015 Localrider 5

Millfield Prep launches expansive new equestrian facility Millfield Prep has just launched an impressive new onsite facility which will enhance riders’ training experience and host national events. At the heart of the new equestrian cross-country course at Millfield Prep School, in Somerset, is a ‘Glastonbury Tor’ obstacle, overlooked by the real iconic monument.

Director of Riding, Danny Anholt, course designer Adrian Ditcham and Millfield Prep headmistress Shirley Shayler

The new course, designed by London 2012 Olympic course designer Adrian Ditcham, uses the natural woodlands, fields and ditches of the campus and features a versatile water complex and a plethora of individually designed portable jumps, many with a school theme, ranging from 80cm to 1m. The new facility was unveiled at the first Millfield British Eventing horse trial in May, which featured almost 500 riders including Millfield pupils and a legend of the sport, Mary King. Danny Anholt, Director of Equestrian Sport at the school and organiser of the new BE event said: “We are delighted with the outcome. The course designed and built by Adrian is superb and has received considerable accolade. Adrian consulted with me throughout the process and was imaginative in the school theme, creating a desk, cricket wicket and our own ‘Glastonbury Tor’.”

Whitaker Wet Look Breeches

T

he brand new Whitaker Wet Look Breeches have launched and they are causing quite a stir. These fashion forward breeches have got everybody talking on social media and opinions are well and truly divided into Team Love and Team Hate. The Wet Look Breeches (B083) are part of the Whitaker range of clothing, which is a collection designed to be more fashion forward and for casual, lifestyle use. These breeches have a leather look design, however are deceptively comfortable as they are made up of a polyester and Spandex blend. They also include a fleece lining, which makes them extremely easy to get on and off and also makes them ideal for the cooler months. They are the perfect combination of style and practicality and retail for £55.00. Product tester and vlogger Tamsin Richardson said: “They are really original and different which I think is good, as a lot of people are just doing the same type of jodhpurs. You would also think from looking at them that they would be really slippery, but they are pretty much like sticky bum all over, which is really helpful.” www.johnwhitaker.com

Paramedic’s skydive for air ambulance A former Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance paramedic jumped out of an aeroplane in a sponsored skydive for the charity helicopter after it was called to her family three times. Critical care paramedic Natalie Brodrick, 37, took the plunge with niece Izzy Sharpe who was airlifted earlier this year after she fell off her horse near Rye. The accident happened less than a year after the helicopter was called to Natalie’s parents Tim and Diana who were involved in a road traffic collision. And like Izzy, 18, mother-of-two Natalie was also airlifted after she too fell off her horse five years ago. All four have since made a full recovery. On Saturday 18th July, Natalie and Izzy took the plunge in a tandem skydive from 12,000ft at Headcorn Airfield, watched by family and friends. Natalie, from Peasmarsh, said: “It was awesome, a fantastic experience, and I would definitely do it again. My partner’s an ex-paratrooper so he’s used to jumping out of an aeroplane which is something I’ve always wanted to do despite being scared of heights. I was waiting for the nerves to kick in but they didn’t, I was just so excited. The most frightening bit was being perched on the edge, ready to jump into the abyss. Izzy went first, but I caught her up and we were able to wave to each other in mid-air. I’m so glad I had it filmed because it was all over so quickly. We were in freefall for about 40 seconds.” Natalie and Izzy decided to raise funds for the air ambulance after it was called to three generations of their family, in separate accidents. Izzy was thrown off her horse at a riding school in Playden in March and was treated at the scene by the helicopter’s doctor and paramedic. They feared she may have broken her pelvis so flew her to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. In June last year, Natalie’s parents were driving back from a hospital appointment when their car was involved in a collision with an oncoming tractor and another vehicle at Peasmarsh. They were treated at the road-side by the helicopter crew before being taken by land ambulance to the Conquest Hospital. Natalie was airlifted after she fell off her horse in Camber in 2010 and in all three cases her former colleagues at the ambulance call centre were unaware of the connection to her. The Air Ambulance service in Kent, Surrey and Sussex costs around £6million annually to stay airborne. Receiving no funding from the National Lottery, the charity relies almost entirely upon the generosity of the public to support the two helicopters based at Marden in Kent and Redhill in Surrey. Natalie and Izzy have so far raised £625 of their £1,000 target and can still be sponsored at www.justgiving.com/NatalieBrodrick

rescue foal has settled at the RSPCA centre in Cobham after receiving veterinary treatment for burns and impact injuries. Murphy, nicknamed ‘Gerry,’ is a three-month-old foal rescued by the RSPCA in August after being hit by a vehicle and found with injuries including burns all over his body. Gerry was rescued by the RSPCA after a call from a member of the public reporting an injured foal found ‘staggering in the road’ on Friday 10th July with no mother in sight. The national charity is still appealing for information as to who was driving the vehicle that hit him, and who inflicted the burns. For the first couple of weeks Gerry was cared for at Catley Cross Veterinary Clinic in Halstead, Essex, where he received treatment for his burns and injuries. Liz Wood, deputy manager of RSPCA Millbrook animal centre said: “It is so lovely to see Gerry enjoying himself here with the other foals. He has been playing and running around - everything a foal of his age should be doing. Considering his awful trauma he is a very lovely boy with a super temperament. His burns are healing very well, and although he needs a few more months of rehabilitation, we will be looking for a new home for him in time.” Gerry’s story touched the hearts of hundreds of animal lovers, and a Just Giving page that was set up on behalf of Gerry has raised over £6,000. The RSPCA is extremely grateful to those who have taken the time to donate to support Gerry’s recovery and ongoing care. Gerry before treatment (left) and after (right)

Saddle Brand Supports Young Customers Buying a saddle is always a big investment but buying a saddle for a child is even bigger as the child grows up, so they grow out of their saddle. Childéric Saddles are now offering junior riders (Under the age of 16 years) the opportunity to replace their Childéric saddle as they grow out of it for a brand new saddle at the cost of just £500.00. The bespoke saddles are always fitted to both rider and horse, highlighting the importance of getting the perfect fit for both, so as the child grows, his or her proportions outgrow the design of the saddle, as Senior Saddle Technician Tricia Bracegirdle explains: “As a mother I know how quickly children physically develop and also how expensive this is! For parents who invest in their children’s choice of sport, offering this new option gives them peace of mind as, if and when their children outgrow their Childéric saddle, we will replace it with another completely bespoke saddle fitted specifically again to their child and pony.” For further information on the ‘Junior Childéric Promise’ visit www.childericsaddles.co.uk

A bright future for Carnival Brownbread Horse Rescue charity based in East Sussex recently rescued Carnival, a 24 inch foal, born in April, and her 31 inch mother Misty. They were found in terrible conditions in the yard of a terraced house. No one could have suspected that anyone would have attempted to keep two mares and foals in such a situation, one reason being that there was no easy access. Indeed, the foal had to be carried out of the property up a flight of steep steps. The ponies were living on a year’s manure and it is a miracle that both babies were born alive. The brave little mares appeared to have stayed alive on a diet of hay, carrots and apples. It was with great relief that they bounded up the steps and into the waiting trailer. On arrival at their new homes their little faces lit up when they saw grass and freedom in the fields. Because the rescue was held up for half an hour due to the local carnival passing the house the foal was named Carnival. This was a perfect rescue; a combined operation with Rainbow Bridge Equine Rescue as the owner of the ponies was happy to sign them over. Visitors are welcome by arrangement to Brownbread Horse Rescue. Proprietor Dinty Steains said: “Sponsors for these little ponies would be warmly welcomed. We are not holding a September open day this year but plan a tack and horsey gear clearance sale at Stone Cross Village Hall on the 27th September (other stall-holders welcome at £10) and then another at the Rescue Centre – date to be decided.” For more information telephone: 01424 892381

Petplan Equine quiz reveals responsible riders

The Petplan Team pictured at the Hickstead Derby Meeting.

According to early results of the Responsible Riders quiz www.petplanequine.co.uk/responsibleriders being conducted by specialist equine insurer Petplan Equine, UK horse owners and riders are, principally, a responsible lot. Respondents to the quiz in most instances chose the most conscientious answer demonstrating a high level of understanding about what is important when it comes to their horses’ health and wellbeing. But that’s not to say they always get it all right all of the time as the results - some of which are surprising - show. Petplan Equine, one of the UK’s leading specialist equine insurance providers, has been providing cover for horses for more than 25 years and works closely with vets and other equine experts to promote responsible horse ownership. The company developed the Responsible Riders quiz to draw to owners’ attention to and get them thinking about their own approach to good management practices.

More than 2,500 people have taken the multiple choice online quiz since it was launched on the Petplan Equine trade stand at the Hickstead Derby last month with the majority choosing the ‘right’ answer in almost all cases. “Already, this quiz is throwing up some interesting results and it is very pleasing to see the high level of care our horses in the UK enjoy,” said Petplan Equine senior marketing executive Charlotte Collyer. “At Petplan Equine we encourage horse owners to ensure they know what is normal in their horse and in the event of abnormal behaviour call the vet as many behavioural issues can be pain related and diagnosing or eliminating the cause early can lead to a more speedy resolution of the problem.” Charlotte continued: “At Petplan Equine we understand firsthand how rewarding horse riding and ownership can be and from experience we think most horses enjoy the company of their human companions. We’re encouraging as many riders as possible to take the Petplan Equine Responsible Rider quiz to find out how their attitude towards their horse’s health and welfare rates in helping make sure their horses are happy and healthy.” How highly would you score? NEWS Horse Healing Workshop All horses love being healed. They understand that you as their loving owner are there to help them. Does your horse have any behavioural problems, or health problems that don’t go away? Perhaps you are looking for a deeper connection with your horse but are unsure how to achieve this. These are common areas that every owner encounters at some point with their horses. This workshop will teach you how to channel healing energy for your horse’s balance, well-being and good health and by doing so, enhance your horses trust and affection on a much deeper level. Vivian Woodruff M.N.S.F.H.Equ.Reg has been a healer for over 20 years. She belongs to the world’s largest healing organisation, giving healing to human and animals alike. During her travels Vivian has given healing to horses, dogs and donkeys in a sanctuary in Egypt and has had the pleasure of healing in orphanages in India and Sri Lanka. Vivian has been part of the healing group in Byfleet for over 20 years and has her own healing practise in Byfleet. Vivian will teach you how to help your horse by channelling beautiful and powerful healing energy, which will bring balance and calm, thereby putting into motion the horses mind and body’s ability to heal itself. It is the safest therapy as it has no negative side effects. The course will be run over 1 day, with practical demonstrations, owner and horse healing and understanding of the Auric Field and Chakras. Stabling is available for your horse upon request and there are a number of B&B’s in the local village if needed. If you would like to be part of the workshop but don’t have your own horse Vivian can offer you one of hers for the duration of the workshop. The workshop on 11th October will include: What is healing, Understanding the Auric Field, Understanding the Chakras, Owner/Horse problems, plus a Practical Demonstration. www.hollybushstables.co.uk

Sheepskin rules Words by Stephen Biddlecombe

Our favourite sheepskin products Sheepskin is hypoallergenic, so it does not tend to cause irritation or skin allergies.

Do you covet a real sheepskin saddle pad? If you’re never been tempted, I’d urge you to re-consider getting the real thing - and here’s why: 1. Sheepskin is hypoallergenic and skin friendly, meaning it does not tend to cause irritation or skin allergy to the horse 2. It is plush and clean as during production, after removal from the sheep, any unwanted elements such as excess lanolin or dirt are taken out. 3. Sheepskin has the ability to adjust to external temperatures at any time of year – in summer, it cools, as the smooth fibres act as a natural air conditioner. In winter, it warms, as the soft wool fibres act as a natural insulation. 4. Sheepskin is also low-maintenance, due to its self-cleaning properties - careful, 30 degree washing is only necessary when the sheepskin becomes extremely dirty or stained. 5. It has great elasticity thanks to the wool’s protein molecules that are stretchable and flexible.

Sheepskin noseband and cheek pieces

If you are considering a sheepskin numnah for its therapeutic properties, but want a discreet look, consider one designed for the showing fraternity. Stephens’s Shaped Showing Numnah, RRP £54.74 exc VAT, is fully lined with a smart rolled edge at the wither, but no rolled edge around the cantle and flap areas. Sizes small, medium and large, in Mocca or Black. The GEL-EZE™ Impression Pad, which can be placed directly on the horse’s back to reduce saddle slippage and offer impactabsorption, is priced at £74.94 exc VAT. The pad’s top side, on which the saddle sits, features the famous Gel Eze® impression gel, to help reduce pressure points and saddle slipping, while the sheepskin underside aids comfort and temperature regulation. Showing Numnah The Stephens Gel-Eze Sheepskin Pad, RRP £76.50 exc VAT, combines all the features of the best selling half pad with the additional benefits of Gel-Eze. It has Gel-eze comfort cushions on the shoulder, under the point of the saddle tree, and either side of the spine and comes in either Natural, Black or Navy Sheepskin, in sizes S, M and L.

Sheepskin has the ability to adjust to external temperatures at any time of year.

The Stephens GelEze Sheepskin Pad

We sometimes get asked why people use nosebands and cheek pieces on their bridles made from Sheepskin - so here’s why. Sheepskin cheek pieces and nosebands are said to aid equine focus and encourage the horse to lower its head. For event riders and show jumpers, the cheek covers help the horse to concentrate on the jump in question, and help avoid distractions. In affiliated events, Sheepskin covers may be used on each cheek piece of the bridle in the show jumping and cross country elements, providing the covers do not exceed 3cm in diameter when measured from the horse’s face. Cheek covers are not allowed during any dressage tests or competitions. In racing, the cheek covers must be declared before each race; their use is also detailed on the race card. We like the Stephens Sheepskin Noseband Cover which retails for just £7.35 exc VAT and fastens with Velcro. It is available in Natural, Brown, Grey, Black, Navy, Dark Green and Burgundy and is 28cm long.

Care of Sheepskin Brush the Sheepskin regularly to maintain a nice pile. Wait until the item has fully dried after use, e.g. if it has become wet with sweat after exercise, and then brush with a clean grooming brush to reinvigorate the pile. Avoid washing unnecessarily, but when you do, hand wash or low-temperature (no more than thirty degrees Celcius) machine wash, using a cleaning product designed for purpose, such as Soapy Suds Sheepskin Wash - priced at just £4.13 exc VAT. This is a special, phosphate-free detergent that we recommend for the washing of Stephens Sheepskin products. Avoid using a standard detergent as they can contain components that are very damaging to sheepskin; powder detergents can clog the wool. Finally, it is vital to let any Sheepskin product dry naturally! Visit: www.worldwidetack.com for details of products mentioned here. september 2015 Localrider 13

S

isters Samantha Boxall and Sophie Preston made history at this summer’s National Side Saddle Show when they became the first siblings to win both the senior and junior rider of the year titles. Samantha’s lovely ride Carrick Diamonds Gem helped her reach the top four ride off (where each rider is assessed as they ride four horses loaned for the occasion) after competing in equitation, jumping and turn out classes. It was a successful three days at the championships for Samantha and the athletic Irish bred gelding known as Bert at home, winning the Langston Working Hunter and the Championship for the section. The elegant pair also put their dressage skills (they compete at novice to elementary level) to good use and helped the Area 8 team win the event. Samantha, who works for the Metropolitan Police on an emergency response team, also teaches 13-year-old Sophie and was bursting with pride when her young protégé was awarded the junior title riding Carne Lass. Sophie is already an accomplished all round horse woman who hunts and plays polo amongst a host of other equestrian activities, but this was only her second time in the ring side saddle, the family had to loan the saddle from their trainer Valerie Millwood as Sophie had out grown her usual saddle.

Right on track Words by Lucy Nicholas, author of ‘The Barefoot Horse: An Introduction to Barefoot Hoof Care and Hoof Boots’. Track pictures by Lisa Williamson.

Melanie Isaac says tracks Hay is left in many small piles, suit her horses’ natural reducing wastage and encouraging responses and physiology. movement and a happy herd.

The track system

T

he Paddock Paradise system, or track system, originated in America and is a natural way of keeping horses that imitates wild horses and their herd life – it is favoured by many owners of barefoot horses, but has benefits for most equines. Here, we share some first-hand views of UK-based owners using this increasingly popular system.

Natural horse keeping

The track system doesn’t stop poaching, but it does confine it to the field margin.

Lauren Hetherington runs Graveney Natural Track Livery in Kent; Lauren’s barefoot trimmer introduced her to tracks when Lauren bought a youngster with some hoof issues. “I went away and researched the system, later convincing my partner to help me construct a small track at my horse’s livery yard after a few months with little grass, ad lib hay and movement, there was a world of difference in my horse’s feet,” Lauren tells us. “Since then, we have set up a track on our own land, added more of my own and livery horses, and have experimented with features and challenges for the horses, such as different surfaces and obstacles. Not only has having a track made a huge difference to the health of my horses’ hooves, it has opened up a world of more natural horse keeping. Behaviourally, there have been huge benefits to the herd horses. They groom, play, chase, feed, rest and move at free will. It has also allowed any horses carrying more weight to self regulate their food, and tone up,” Lauren concludes.

Tracks are set up utilising fencing to create ‘channels’, they should be wide enough to allow the horses contained within the system space to safely pass each other, e.g. 10’ – 12’ minimum. Grass should be sparse, never lush, so the horses travel to graze. Hay is distributed around the track. ‹ Read more in JA Allen’s ‘The Barefoot Horse: An Introduction to Barefoot Hoof Care and Hoof Boots’, by Lucy Nicholas. Price £15.99. Available from retailers including www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk, specialists in barefoot hoofcare products and hoof boots.

Metabolic issues

Nicola Downes from Bewdley in Worcestershire is also a fan of track systems, telling us that the system benefited her former mare. “I put my new horse on my own track system, and for two years she was barefoot and out 24/7. But when my circumstances changed and I had to sell her, she went to a lady who stabled her, fed her both haylage and hay, and put her out on a paddock. Within three weeks, the new owner had concerns about the horse’s headshaking and dental problems - she sent a photo to me that showed the mare had very swollen glands that were affecting her eating; obviously linked to grass intake. Although I was not aware of it when I owned the mare, it turns out that her owners prior to me, who kept her at stabled livery on a dairy farm with haylage, had also had the same issues. During the two years I had her, not once did she show any of these symptoms. For some horses, especially those with metabolic issues like this mare, conventional turn out on lush grass, combined with reduced movement and confinement, can lead to a range of wellness problems,” Nicola states.

Suiting the horse’s natural physiology

Melanie Isaac from Dorset keeps her horses at livery on a bare earth track through most of the year. “It keeps my good doer free from navicular, which was the reason I put the track up,” she states. “But what I found really interesting was the affect it had on my other horse, an anxious rescue case. Previously he’d spook at everything, gallop straight to a fence and try to push himself through in panic. With the track, he could carry on running till he had used up the adrenalin in his system, effectively running it off. He is far calmer now, and rideable; I do believe the track has had a part to play in this, because it provides a natural environment that suits the horse’s natural responses and physiology,” Melanie says. Above all else Mayfield is a happy school

Set in the peaceful Sussex countryside Mayfield is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18. Sport and the development of a lifelong healthy and balanced lifestyle are integral to the life of Mayfield School for Girls.

iding has been an important part of Mayfield School life for over twenty years, but with the recent upgrading of on site facilities the school is now able to offer even more training and wonderful opportunities to riders of all levels. The yard, which is situated less than a minute’s walk from the main school building and just a stone’s throw from the sports fields, is home to around 30 horses at any one time. The majority of the horses belong to pupils, but it is also possible for girls to either loan or share a pony during term time. Mayfield students have an outstanding record of performance in equestrian competitions at school, national and international level, and the lady driving this success is Jill Barker BEd, BHSII J, CertEd, Director of Riding. Mayfield girls have an ethos of work hard and play hard and Jill believes if you can create a passion, whether it is riding, ceramics (which the school are exceptionally good at), art, music etc, it helps to motivate and inspire your academic life also. Jill said: “We are an academic school that offers the opportunity to ride at the highest level. Our results in producing successful riders who have gone on to pursue successful careers speak for themselves. The girls learn to manage their time in order to fit in everything that they want to do. Many of our riders are also involved in sports teams, drama productions and music. Once you inspire pupils, they are able to motivate themselves and opportunities open up to them.”

Outstanding Equestrian Facilities There are two stable blocks each set around a courtyard and joined in the middle by a covered wash bay. The improved facilities also include an indoor arena and wonderful large outdoor arena. The school has a professionally built cross country course, as well as plenty of off-road hacking. The school has had a number of girls who have been very successful at the highest level of equestrian sport, with representation at Junior European level in dressage, show jumping and eventing, with five of the girls winning team and individual medals. Former pupils, Emily Baldwin and Emily Llewellyn have both continued in the sport of eventing, competing at Badminton and Burghley as well as on Senior Nations Cup teams. After time away establishing herself as a top international rider, Emily Baldwin now has a small yard of her own horses at Mayfield and is actively involved in training and educating the girls. While she mainly teaches the elite level riders, she also gives practical lessons in subjects such as the use of ice, physio stretches and how to trot up a horse.

Caters for all abilities Mayfield caters for riders of all abilities and aspirations, with the training provided split into three levels: Elite level, Developmental level and Grassroots level. Elite level is aimed at riders who have the potential to compete at the very top of their chosen discipline. Developmental level is aimed at riders with young horses and also at those wishing to gain more experience. Grassroots level is for novice riders and those who are learning to ride. There are a mixture of riders in this level, with some riding purely for pleasure, while others are keen to progress up the grades.

Competitive spirit The school offers lots of opportunities for those who wish to take part in competitions. In addition to inter-house dressage and show jumping competitions, they host inter-school events and have a school lorry to drive girls to local events and shows. Everyone has the opportunity to compete, with the lorry sometimes driving backwards and forwards all day. It is in the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) competitions that Mayfield have carved their niche, having won over 14 national titles. Jill attributes this success to the wonderful camaraderie between the girls. They all want each other to do well and they celebrate each other’s success.

The girls want each other to do well and celebrate each other’s success.

Badminton bound One of the school’s sixth formers, Immie Long qualified her horse, Foxdon Half Pint for the Badminton Grassroots Final in both 2014 and 2015. On both occasions Jill took a small group of pupils with her for the day to cheer and support Immie, as well as giving them the opportunity to learn about eventing at a higher level. Emily Baldwin was also there to walk the course with Immie and to give her any last minute advice.

Fantastic Academic Record Mayfield School provides a wonderful opportunity for girls to experience excellent sporting opportunities alongside their academic studies. When the 2015 A Level results were announced in August Mayfield School recorded an increase in results for the fifth successive year, with the A* to B pass rate increasing to 81%. All of the girls passed three or more A Levels, with a good number successfully studying an eclectic range of four or five challenging academic subjects. The Headmistress Miss Antonia Beary said: “It has been another outstanding year for Mayfield girls. The standard of their performance inside and outside the

classroom continues to impress. All of the girls study traditional, rigorous and challenging A Level subjects and there is no doubt that the expectation that they think independently and take responsibility for their own work has helped them to such pleasing outcomes. I am confident that what they have learnt and the way in which they have learnt it – not to mention the friendships they have made - will stand them good stead as they go on to University and beyond.”

Best competition record Not everyone who rides at Mayfield will want to compete, many are just happy enjoying the extensive hacking and wonderful tuition available to them. The only hope Jill Barker has is that they aim to be as good as they can, whatever level they

are riding at. For those who are looking to compete and improve their results the Mayfield Riding Department has the best competition record of any school in the country. Jill said: “We thrive on coaching each individual to reach and often exceed her unique potential, and the secret of our success undoubtedly lies in a carefully balanced combination of expert tuition, and our exceptional support system and team spirit. Under the guidance of our specialist staff, the girls encourage and support one another as they challenge themselves and grow in confidence and competence, often surpassing their own expectations. We delight in watching our girls develop their ability, self-esteem and self-belief, and become mature, well-rounded and skilled young riders.”

ince launching the Soft Shell in 2013, Point Two have spent the last two years developing and improving its design and fit, and have now created a breathable, more discreet and stylish Soft Shell Gilet suitable for virtually any activity. The Point Two Soft Shell is identical to any other soft shell used for show jumping, schooling or hacking out, but with one major difference – it has a fully integrated Point Two ProAir2 airbag and trigger system. The Point Two ProAir2 airbag system has been proved to work in three ways; to distribute pressure, absorb shock and support the spinal column in the event of a fall. When inflated, the airbag system offers the collar of the neck and trunk more support, thus reducing the risk of over bending the spinal column. Point Two’s exclusive trigger system is discreetly hidden in the front pocket of the jacket with a small opening for the lanyard which can be hidden within the jacket when not riding. The airbag and trigger system sits within a removable zip-in liner for the convenience of washing the outer shell at home.

Question: My horse becomes spooky in the wind – what can I do to keep him confident? Answer: It’s natural for prey animals to be more spooky in windy weather. All that movement in the bushes makes it much harder to detect a predator so they are on high alert. But here’s the key, when a horse feels totally safe with you he will no longer feel so unsafe, it’s all about the relationship. Many people think they have ‘great’ relationships with their horses but let’s now start to look at what ‘relationship’ between horse and human really means. Does he see you as friendly and trustworthy and a worthy leader? Check it out on the points below.... 1. Does he come to you as soon as he sees you or turn away and leave? 2. Does he prefer your company or the other horses? 3. Does he let you touch him everywhere or does he have spots he’s worried or defensive about? 4. Does he do what you ask willingly, or does he argue with you or get skittish and bracy? 5. Does he go confidently where you ask or does he balk and shy and try to go the other way? 6. Does he get more relaxed in your presence or more tense? 7. Is he calm when you are calm, or does he act as if you aren’t even there? 8. When he’s afraid, do you get tense and hold him back or can you stay calm and focused without making him feel wrong? This is the kind of relationship we are talking about. When you can say ‘yes’ to all the above points then you know you have transcended the prey-predator relationship of constant insecurity (on both parts) and of course all your problems go away, not just the spookiness when it’s windy.

Horses respond to love, language and leadership in equal doses. Some people are really good at love, others at leadership, and most are not good at language with horses. This is because for the most part we are taught to lounge our horses in mindless circles to blow off steam, saddle up and get on, kick to go and pull on the reins to turn or stop. There is so much more you can do to communicate in a more sophisticated way, a way that gives you the language to calm a horse down, prepare him for things and to use energy and body language more than legs and hands. In order to truly get your horse’s trust as friend and leader, you need to be good at all three: love, language and leadership.

Conclusion

There is no quick fix for spooky horses. It’s all about building their self confidence, their confidence in you as their leader, and then maintaining that confidence as you go into more and more challenging situations. When your relationship really becomes strong, all those problems simply disappear. It’s not about the wind.

T

he 2015 eventing season is enjoying a great year and with dates stretching until the end of October there promises to be more excitement over the coming weeks. As the proud sponsors of Team Crisp, Swift Bedding is pleased that Team Crisp have had a strong year, with all of the horses producing solid results across all levels.

Event rider Tom Crisp says: “Swift Bedding ensures that our horses have a clean, fresh, cosy environment.”

Looking ahead – preparation is key

At this point in the season Team Crisp, like many horse owners, begin to look ahead to autumn and get preparations in place to ensure their horses are comfortable and warm over the colder months. For Tom Crisp, his horses’ health is the ultimate priority. This unwavering commitment was seen earlier in the year at the team’s debut at the Badminton Horse Trials when Tom made the decision to retire Coolys Luxury after the dressage, for the sake of his long term well being. However, he is now looking forward to competing at his sixth consecutive Burghley Horse Trials in September, having finished 11th there last year.

To stable or not to stable?

There is much debate about the stabling of horses over the winter months with many enthusiasts stating that there needs to be a careful balance between the health and wellbeing of the animal versus the possible damage to turnout areas. However, unarguably, horse owners need to have a stable area ready for their horses for when the weather inevitably turns. The right environment for the horses over the colder months is really important to Team Crisp - after all they need to ensure that the horses remain in optimum condition and are ready to begin their preparations for the next season. Strong performance and successful training is keenly linked to the horse’s wellbeing. So here are Tom’s top tips for keeping your horse healthy and happy, along with why you should choose Swift Bedding wood pellets every time.

✔ When our horses have to spend long periods standing in through the winter, it is important to maintain not only a healthy body but a healthy mind too. ✔ Having the right routine is imperative, feeding, exercising, and playtime are all essential for a healthy, fit horse. Swift Bedding ensures that our horses have a clean, fresh, cosy environment, giving them the right kind of bedding also helps to eliminate foot rot, dust allergies, and helps prevent bumps and scrapes occurring when they like to get down and roll after their baths! ✔ Depending on how messy the horse is, you can simply top up the beds with a bag of Swift Bedding pellets without soaking them first, alternatively, the pellets perform brilliantly as ‘deep litter’ due to their high absorbency and low odour. They’re easy to muck out and make great compost!

Get your stable ready for Autumn with Swift Bedding Horse bedding has always been one of the key components of horse health and during the winter months when horses are more likely to be stabled for longer periods the question of bedding becomes an even more important one.

Why you should choose Swift Bedding wood pellets? Certain types of bedding have been shown to cause problems for some horses, with respiratory illnesses topping the list of ailments. This is where Swift Bedding wood pellets really come into their own.

1. They are environmentally friendly as they are made from FSC approved virgin wood that has been heat treated to eliminate bacteria.

have been impressed with the pellets on a number of levels. Tom commented: “They really do offer the best solution to horse bedding and with the health of our horses paramount I would encourage anyone, looking at bedding this autumn to use Swift Bedding wood pellets.” Whether you ride purely for pleasure or as a profession Swift Bedding wood pellets offer a great value for money, environmentally friendly alternative - an incredibly high quality pellet product at a very reasonable price. Prices start at just £227 per tonne delivered (excluding VAT). To find out more about Swift Bedding wood pellets please call Barry Nutley on 01795 507197 or email him at barry@swiftenergyuk.com.

2. By their very nature these wood pellets create less dust in the air making them a healthy option for all horses, but especially those with respiratory issues. 3. They have a moisture content of less than 7% which means they are one of the most absorbent options on the market. 4. The moisture remains localised, making mucking out quicker, with less wastage meaning the pellets last longer and are therefore a more economical option.

A final word from Team Crisp Tom and his team have now been using the pellets for a number of months and

Now for a trim 3 The Avalon Clipper provides 2.5 hours of low vibration clipping powered by a battery pack, meaning there is no need for fiddly cables. The quiet Avalon Clipper is ideal for all equines – particularly horses that are young or nervous – and the shape of the unit has been designed for comfort and ease of use – especially beneficial

for smaller hands that find some clippers cumbersome and awkward to use. Utilising the Wahl cool running snap-on blade system means there is no need to fiddle with blade alignment and tensioning, making them easy to clean, oil and change. Wahl clipper blades are made to the highest standard and are designed to last – the rust resistant, high precision quick release chrome plated wide blades help users achieve a consistent, smooth finish on the coat and combined with the 80W rotary motor – the Avalon makes light of any horse’s coat.

The finishing touch 4 Safe-Care Equine Show ‘n’ Shine is a leave in conditioner, which not only gives instant shine to clipped coats, but its unique formulation including sunflower oil, also allows the clippers to work through your horse’s fluffy coat with ease. Designed to be left on your horse’s coat, mane and tail, the spray continues to deliver amazing shine and vitality for days after application and can even be used around the saddle and bridle area for a non-greasy, nonslip finish.

TRIED&TESTED

Put to the test… This month we have been testing a mixture of products. Whether you are a happy hacker or top competition rider, we think you will find something worth trying. Equisafety Orange Air Waistcoat The Orange Air Waistcoat is an ideal product for the warmer months as it stands out from the leafy trees and bushes, therefore making it easier for you to be seen by drivers. However, it is also a superb colour to be worn in fog and snow. It is fastened by a strong front zip and, by utilising the Touch & Close fastening side straps, can therefore be fully adjusted, enabling it to be worn over most thicknesses of clothing including body armour. With two front hidden zipped pockets. The one-size matching hatband (RRP: £10.99) is manufactured from 100% reflective and fluorescent 2inch wide tape.

Primal Pantry Bar Primal Pantry bars are made using only a few high quality natural ingredients (Coconut & Macadamia, Almond & Cashew, Brazil Nut & Cherry, Hazelnut & Cocoa and Apple & Pecan), without any additives, preservatives, flavourings or colours in sight. There is no heat used in the manufacturing process, which can break down some of the nutrients found in the ingredients. The natural fats in the bars come from the nuts, which help provide fuel for the body over longer exercise periods, alongside a host of other general health benefits. The nuts in the bars also provide important protein, which, when combined with the natural carbohydrates and fats, creates a bar that not only helps fuel exercise, but also aids with muscle and mind recovery afterwards. Now available in Tesco, Superdrug, Ocado and health stores. www.primalpantry.com

LR Comment: This is a really comfortable waistcoat, which fitted well, especially as it has the adjustments at the waist. I have worn it in the spring and summer and believe the traffic have given me more consideration than when I am wearing my old yellow vest.

LR Comment: These are the perfect bars for busy equestrians. They can be quickly eaten in between rides or teaching and don’t give the sugar highs that other products often do. A lot of energy and nourishment in one small bar.

Mornflake Top Porridge

LR Comment: Just add boiling water, stir and wait for three minutes. A delicious pot of porridge, which can be flavoured by the addition of Golden Syrup or Nutella. Definitely worth keeping a few in the lorry and at the yard, especially with cold winter mornings approaching.

www.tech21.com LR Comment: I haven’t dropped my ipad to truly test this case, but I like what it says on the box. There are cases to fit both phones and pads and help to displace the force caused by an impact through their unique geometric ribbing structure.

EnerPlex Power up your devices anywhere, with the ultra thin and super light EnerPlex. Once charged it is possible to charge two tablets or smaller devices simultaneously. Once charged it provides enough power to stay charged all day. www.geonerplex.com LR Comment: Wherever I travel these days I seem to have a mixture of devices with me all of which need charging. The EnerPlex gives added piece of mind, if my phone starts to run low on power I can plug it and charge it again. It is a handy back up to take to the yard and away to shows and events and it is amazing what you need a USB charger for these days, even the Ice Vibe Rug.

Buko Organic Coconut Water The term ‘buko’ refers to young coconuts, known for their naturally sweeter and fresher coconut water, and Buko believe, that by ensuring the coconuts they use are organic and avoiding all additives and preservatives, they have produced a delicious pure drink that will have even the most die-hard coconut water sceptics converted. It’s certainly true that Buko has quickly won fans in the sports world, from long distance runners to Premiership rugby players, and James Haskell, ex-England player and current adventure athlete says it’s his ‘new go to drink’. www.organicbuko.com LR Comment: The Buko coconut water, tastes very similar to the coconut water I have previously drunk straight from the coconut while travelling overseas, it is light and fresh. What I have noticed during the trial is that on really hot days when nothing seems to do the job of quenching one’s thirst, the Buko Organic Coconut Water can. Definitely worth keeping some in the fridge.

Mr. Black’s Garment Essentials™

WIN! FliTrap

WIN!

With the warm weather comes the headache of flies. Generally within just a few days of being in position flies will become attracted to the specifically designed bait inside the FliTrap luring them into the device. The flies enter the trap through small holes and once inside are unable to escape due to the design. FliTrap works on 120,000 different species of flies. Whatever your fly problem you will see a dramatic impact quickly, reducing the breeding cycle and making your stables, yard or business a fly free zone. As FliTrap is completely environmentally friendly and contains no harmful chemicals it is perfectly safe for use around humans and animals alike. The bait is made from completely natural sources and although it wouldn’t taste very nice, it’s completely non-toxic making the perfect solution to hang in stables, yards, and schools.

The perfect prescription for your wardrobe, the complete range includes Refresh sprays and Wash products crafted specifically for each garment. Infused with natural, nourishing ingredients the range features dedicated Refresh sprays (£9.95) and Wash formulations (£13.50) specific to leather, cotton and linen, wool and cashmere, denim and more. Perfect for the fashion conscious, MR. BLACK’s unique formulas penetrate deep into the fabric weaves, to clean, refresh and prevent stains from setting. Unlike standard detergents, that expose every garment to hard stain-removal enzymes – causing shrinkage, fading and fraying - MR. BLACK’s enzyme-free and biodegradable formulas care for your clothes, significantly extending the life of your garments and reducing the size of your washing basket. Mr. Black’s Garment Essentials™ range is 100% made in Australia and is a brand developing and manufacturing garment care products formulated to extend the life of fashion apparel by maintaining the original look and feel for longer. www.mr-blacks.com LR Comment: I first read about these products in a fashion magazine, which recommended the sprays for freshening up clothing if dashing from the gym to meet friends after work. I enquired if the products might be suitable for horse riders and have been trialling ever since. I am completely in love with Mr Black Cotton and Linen Refresh. I tend to spray some over my jacket and trousers/breeches when I leave the yard and am confident it seems to do the trick in leaving the yard smells behind. And it has made any trips to the supermarket on the way home from the stables significantly less embarrassing. There is also a wonderful Shoe Refresh, which is particularly good for trainers and canvas shoes.

Available online, RRP: £17.49. www.flitrapdirect.com LR Comment: Although there are less flies around now autumn is approaching, it is worth having a FliTrap ready for next season. It can also be used to control wasps with the addition of Wasp bait. Watch the online video to see just how effective the FliTrap can be.

WIN! We have one FliTrap to giveaway. For your chance to win, complete the entry form on page 40.

Atypical Myopathy

If you suspect that your horse is showing any signs of atypical myopathy then contact your vet IMMEDIATELY. If you have any other concerns then please contact your vet practice without hesitation for further advice.

Words by Ed Lyall BVetMed CertEM MRCVS of The Arundel Equine Hospital

Sycamore tree

typical myopathy was first recognised back in 1984, but has largely come to prominence over the last few years with outbreaks in the UK and Europe. It occurs in individuals or groups of horses at pasture and is likely caused by ingestion of seeds known as ‘helicopters’ (and possibly to a lesser extent leaves) of the sycamore tree (Acer pseudoplatanus) that contain a specific toxin. This toxin has been identified as hypoglycin A. The amount of toxin within seeds is variable and it is not understood why some seeds have more toxin than others, nor is it understood how many seeds have to be eaten for a horse to become sick. It is likely that some horses will be more susceptible than others with younger horses appearing particularly susceptible, particularly those in poor bodily condition, on relatively poor quality pasture. As older horses are less likely to become affected it may be that they develop some tolerance to the toxin. Incidences tend to occur in the autumn and in the spring following large autumnal outbreaks and are often following a sudden adverse change in weather conditions, such as a frost or heavy rain.

A

go on to make a complete recovery and return to work with no long-term effects of the disease.

Clinical Signs

➤ Rake up or hoover to remove the seeds, dead leaves and saplings where possible.

It can cause a variety of clinical signs which can present as dullness or lethargy or as a sudden onset of muscle stiffness or weakness that can progress rapidly to recumbency (lying down). Other reported signs also include reluctance to work, choke, whinnying, head tossing or an abnormally low head carriage. It can affect the diaphragm resulting in difficult or laboured breathing and some cases may show some colic like symptoms such as paddling or stretching the limbs. Due to the breakdown of the muscle urine, often appears dark red and brown. If it affects the heart muscle it can result in a fast or irregular heart beat and in the worst case some horses may present as a sudden death. The mortality rates vary from 40-100% and vary from year to year.

Prevention

Given the high mortality rate prevention is better than cure. If sycamore seeds are present in your fields then the following is advised:

➤ Avoid letting horses graze pasture that are contaminated with the sycamore seeds. ➤ Move horses out of the field to as distant a point as is practical, or stable the horses during the risk period. ➤ If you are unable to remove horses from pastures then fence off areas where the seeds and leaves have fallen and offer supplementary hay, but do not leave it on the ground to get wet, and feed extra concentrate.

➤ Reducing the stocking density can help to ensure there is good grazing for every horse. ➤ If you are suspicious that your horse may have ingested some of these seeds then call your vet out to check the muscle enzyme levels (AST/CK) to identify subclinical and pre-clinical cases.

The Arundel Equine Hospital

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is based on clinical signs alongside an increase in serum muscle enzymes (AST/CK) and the presence of red/brown urine.

Treatment

Prompt diagnosis and treatment is essential if horses are to have any chance of survival. There is no specific treatment only supportive care, which involves hospitalisation, intensive intravenous fluid therapy and nursing. Fluids are required to provide cardiovascular support as horses can become very dehydrated and to support the kidneys as the product of muscle breakdown (myoglobin) can affect their function and can cause renal failure. If there is concern over the kidney function then they may also be given a diuretic to help the kidneys maintain a good urine output. This condition can be extremely painful and so a variety of powerful painkillers and anti-inflammatories may be required. When horses become recumbent then they require frequent turning to encourage them to stand and to prevent sores. If they are inappetant (not eating) then they are provided with an alternative source of nutrition usually by stomach tube in order to provide their energy requirements. Supplementary vitamins and minerals have also been shown to be useful in some cases. Prognostic factors for survival are normal mucosae, no respiratory distress signs, a standing position most of the time, no temperature, and normal abdominal transit. Factors unfavourable to a recovery include recumbency, abundant sedation, anorexia, tachycardia (a high heart rate), tachypnoea (high respiratory rate), respiratory difficulties and severe acid-base disturbances. Euthanasia may have to be considered when horses appear to have reached the stage where they are no longer likely to respond to supportive treatment. In horses that do recover, recovery is initially slow, but most

FEED NEWS

What to Feed this Autumn? One of the greatest worries heading into autumn is laminitis and if you own a good doer remember to keep a close eye on their condition and what you are feeding them. Here we look at a few products which may be of benefit to the laminitis prone horse or pony this autumn.

TopSpec Antilam TopSpec AntiLam is a pelleted multi-supplement designed to provide 5-way nutritional support for those prone to, being treated for, or recovering from laminitis. AntiLam is used and recommended by nutritionists, vets and farriers. Most overweight ponies, and some overweight horses, are susceptible to laminitis. AntiLam is a brilliant formulation combining several supplements with a high-fibre, very lowcalorie carrier to make it palatable. The formula is very low in sugar and starch and cereal-grainfree, making it ‘Non-Heating’. www.topspec.com

NAF Five Star Laminaze NAF Five Star Laminaze is a unique blend of naturally sourced antioxidants combined with key gut support, bio-available sulphur and targeted nutrients, in a palatable formula to maintain hoof health and help to improve the diet and lifestyle of horses and ponies on restricted diets. Supplementing with prebiotics and live probiotics is recommended for promoting a stable gut environment, while naturally sourced antioxidants are present to naturally support a healthy system. Bio-available sulphur (MSM) is recommended for supporting healthy hoof growth and strong sulphur bonds within the laminae. Feed Five Star Laminaze to provide key nutrients for dietary support of prone individuals, especially during times of significant grass growth and on frosty mornings. www.naf-equine.eu/uk

Speedi-Beet Speedi-Beet is a highly nutritious micronized (cooked) beet pulp feed which provides an excellent source of digestible fibre and is approved by The Laminitis Trust. Due to its unique manufacturing process, Speedi-Beet can be soaked and ready to use in just 10 minutes. Stabilise the ingestion of sugars present in autumn grass when Speedi-Beet is fed before turnout. www.britishhorsefeeds.com

Other Feed News Saracen Veteran Mix Saracen Horse Feeds are celebrating twenty years of feeding the older horse, both while in work and when they are retired. The new and improved Saracen Veteran Mix which is available from September 2015 now includes a ‘live yeast” within the formulation. This is to help support optimum digestive health and fibre digestion. Veteran Mix is a low starch, oat free ration based on Saracen’s unique “Super-fibre” technology. “Super-fibre” sources contain a similar level of accessible calories to that of cereals, enabling the cereal portion of the recipe to be reduced, and consequently the starch level of the diet is greatly reduced. This helps to avoid the likelihood of any digestive disorders caused by high cereal based diets, but still provides the older horse with the calories needed for maintenance. Veteran Mix also includes essential antioxidants such as Vitamin E. Antioxidants act to mop up free radicals helping the horse to maintain normal muscle function and decrease recovery time after exercise. www.saracenhorsefeeds.com

Rowen Barbary Solution Mash Containing under 1% total sugar but with 150gm of oil in every 1kg Solution Mash is suitable for poor doers that suffer from a starch and sugar intolerance. The high levels of oils backed up with additional nutrients help encourage condition and controlled weight gain. This combined with a 26% fibre level helps to support slow rates of digestion throughout the hind gut and is particularly valuable for horses requiring a diet that is sympathetic on the digestive system. Also added are digestive enhancers, natural herbs spearmint, garlic and fenugreek and it is fully balanced in essential vitamins, minerals and trace elements to help keep your horse in good condition this winter. www.rowenbarbary.co.uk

Nettex Calmers

If a horse suffers from, or is prone to laminitis, then the diet is one of the most important places to start. It is important not to forget that the laminitis prone equine still requires the vital vitamins and minerals in the diet. Horslyx offers an ideal method of controlling calorie intake in horses and ponies prone to laminitis without compromising on valuable vitamins and minerals. The carefully chosen ingredients offer a balanced and palatable method of feeding the required nutrients to help support hooves, coat and skin and general wellbeing.

The Calmer range from Nettex has been designed and formulated to cover any situation when a calmer may be required. With three levels of administration either liquid, powder or a syringe paste Nettex offer easy maintenance feeding solutions that can be used to help reduce stress related symptoms such as nervousness, excitability, apprehension and irritability. All products are safe to use on a daily basis and as with all supplements, absorption rates can vary between horses and ponies so Nettex advise a trial of the product at home for the desired effect.

NAF Five Star Magic

NAF In the Pink Powder

NAF Five Star Magic is a magnesium calmer with a difference. It’s a five star formula that contains a unique combination of herbs and nutrients known to help relax muscle tissue and support concentration. It contains magnesium, an essential nutrient to a horse’s wellbeing - among its many roles is the regulation of nervous tension. As magnesium also acts on muscle tension, a horse low in magnesium may appear ‘tight’ in his way of going and express excitability or a lack of confidence. To support the benefits of magnesium, Five Star Magic also contains a blend of herbs chosen for their traditional use in supporting confidence and concentration. The unique blend of nutrients enables the horse to tackle all that is asked of it, calmly and confidently. Five Star Liquid Magic has the advantage of extracting the active ingredients from the herbs, making them more readily available for absorption by the horse. The calming effects can be seen fast. www.naf-equine.eu/uk

Nutritional support of the gut is the cornerstone of health and vitality in horses, and will be reflected as a horse in perfect condition. In The Pink Powder is the concentrated feed balancer with live probiotic yeast for perfect condition. In The Pink Powder is one of the most advanced nutritional preparations available today to improve the diet of sport and leisure horses. It is a unique, concentrated formula containing live yeasts and probiotics designed to optimise gut function and the natural digestive process. This enables the horse to fully utilize his diet and maintain perfect condition. Plus, because it contains high quality vitamins, minerals and micronutrients, it supports perfect health, vitality and performance. In The Pink Powder is a concentrated conditioning formula containing essential vitamins and minerals with a live probiotic yeast for perfect condition, formulated for both sport and leisure horses and ponies.
