In the dim dining room of a local monastery, I’m speaking with Antonio Garcia Madrid. He is 64 years old, from Pollenca, and one of many who take to the woods every fall in search of the island's setas silvestres.

O

ver a lunch of his homemade cabrita frita, I quiz him on this annual practice. I want to know when the foraging starts, where the best spots are to find them, what types are the most common. Like the guiri that I am I’m all questions. The answers come slowly, and in sayings. ‘What kind of dishes are the most typical with local mushrooms?’ - ‘pues, lo normal’, he assures me. ‘Es que, no es algo tan especial’. To him, my questions seem silly. What’s all the fuss about, he seems to be asking.

To me, a city-born former New-York dweller, it is tan especial. This local knowledge of the land passed from generation to generation, is just the kind of thing that charms me about the island. Just 30 minutes from Palma’s international fast-food chains, Mallorquins young and old are still practising foraging traditions that date back centuries.

Come the first rains, Antonio tells me, you’ll find wild mushrooms tucked away in the woods of the Serra de Tramuntana, in the skirt of pine trees, or under fallen logs. Hunts tend to be family affairs, and the tell-tale signs are passed from generation to generation.

To those who live here it’s common knowledge where to find them, but to an outsider you’d be hard pressed to find out. Tell someone your spots, he explains, and maybe next year they’ll get there before you.

While these secrets are not shared, the bounty certainly is. Each year Mancor de la Vall turns into a boom town during the three-day fiesta celebrating the esclata-sangs mushroom. Featured in Roman frescos, this sought-after variety has been employed in Mediterranean food for thousands of years. Here you’ll find stalls overflowing with them, gathered and grown in local farms. In typical form, this tiny Mallorquin village turns into a boom town during the three day fiesta, complete with street food, live music and traditional dancing.

Sample local preparations of the season’s bounty along Calle Major. Our favorite spot is Maria Salinas, an elegant contemporary eatery in a historic Mallorcan townhouse. Salinas award-winning cooking blends old and new, with an eye towards locally sourced ingredients. Try, for example, grilled wild mushrooms with mojama with a garlic merengue. Converso con Antonio García Madrid en el sombrío comedor de un monasterio local. Tiene 64 años, es natural de Pollença y uno de los muchos que cada otoño se adentran en el bosque en busca de setas silvestres.

ientras compartimos su célebre cabrita frita, le someto a un interrogatorio sobre esta práctica. Quiero saber cuándo empieza la temporada y cuales son las mejores variedades y sitios para encontrarlas. Como buena guiri no dejo de hacer preguntas como cuales son los platos locales más típicos con setas, a lo que Antonio responde con un lacónico “ pues lo normal, es que no es algo tan especial…”.

Cada año en Mancor de La Vall se celebra un festival de esclata-sangs que dura tres días. Esta variedad (que ya aparecía represenada en frescos romanos) ha estado presente en la gastronomía mediterránea desde hace miles de años. Encontrarás puestos rebosantes de estas setas, recogidas o cultivadas en granjas locales. Durante tres días esta pequeña villa recibe a miles de visitantes que disfrutan de música en vivo, puestos de comida o bailes tradicionales.

Parece que todas mis preguntas son tontas y carentes de interés, pero para mí, acostumbrada a vivir en Nueva York, sí es algo muy especial. Este saber ancestral transmitido de generación en generación es exactamente lo que me fascina de esta isla. A tan solo 30 minutos de las cadenas internacionales que podemos encontrar en Palma, hay mallorquines de todas las edades que mantienen tradiciones de siglos pasados.

Prueba las mejores recetas que encontrarás a lo largo de la Calle Mayor. Aunque nuestra recomendación es María Salinas, la prestigiosa cocinera mezcla lo nuevo y lo tradicional prestando especial atención al producto fresco local. Prueba las setas con mojama y muselina de ajo, ¡pero no olvides reservar con antelación o no encontrarás mesa!

Antonio me asegura que en cuanto llegan las primeras lluvias ya se encuentran setas escondidas bajo troncos o ramas caídas de los pinos de los bosques de la Serra de Tramuntana. Salir a por setas es una actividad que se suele realizar en familia para mantener vivo este saber ancestral. Cualquiera que viva aquí sabe dónde encontrar setas, pero si vienes de fuera te costará recavar información privilegiada. “Si dices cuál es tu lugar secreto, seguramente al año siguiente cuando llegues alguien se habrá adelantado”, comenta Antonio. Así, este secreto no se comparte, pero afortunadamente sí el botín.

In einem halbdunklen Esszimmer spreche ich mit Antonio Garcia Madrid. Er ist 64 Jahre alt und kommt aus Pollenca. Und er ist einer von vielen, die jeden Herbst die Wälder durchforsten auf der Suche nach Wildpilzen.

ährend wir hausgemachte ''cabrita frita'' essen, frage ich ihn nach dieser jährlichen Tradition. Ich möchte wissen, wann das Sammeln der Pilze beginnt, wo die besten Plätze sind, welche Arten am häufigsten vorkommen. Als ''Guiri'' habe ich viele Fragen. Die Antworten kommen langsam. „Welche Art von Gerichten mit lokalen Pilzen sind am typischsten?“ - „Das Gewöhnliche halt“, versichert er mir. „Es ist wirklich nichts Besonderes“. Meine Fragen kommen Antonio albern vor.

Für mich, eine in der Stadt geborene ehemalige New Yorkerin, ist es etwas Besonderes. Dieses lokale Wissen über das Land, das in der Familie weitergegeben wurde, ist genau das, was mich an der Insel bezaubert. Mallorca's Best Hiking Routes During the cooler and quieter months of the year Mallorca – and especially the beautiful Serra de Tramuntana mountain range – becomes a true paradise for hiking fans. We have listed the 17 best hiking routes for you to enjoy Mallorca's stunning landscape and explore parts of the island you didn't know existed.

GR221 DRY STONE ROUTE The ultimate challenge If you are a real hiking fan you cannot miss Mallorca's legendary, about 135 kilometre long dry stone route that runs the entire length of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Starting in Port d'Andratx and ending in Pollença this route is a real long distance challenge and can only be done in a few days. The route consists of different sections varying in length and difficulty.

Some of the ancient paths are easier and better signposted than others. Meet fellow hikers, re-energise and spend the night at one of the typical 'refugios' along the route.

SAN TELMO TO LA TRAPA Hike along the coast This easier hiking trail starts at the western end of the Serra de Tramuntana in San Telmo, also known as Sant Elm. A beautiful coastal route leads up to the ruins of the La Trapa Monastery. Once there, reward yourself with a picnic and relax enjoying the splendid panoramic views of Sa Dragonera island.

'SALT DES FREU' IN ORIENT Waterfalls in the Forest The area around the small village of Orient is a popular hiking spot, especially in winter. After days of heavy rains, take the pleasant walk to the 'Salt des Freu' waterfalls, a true natural highlight in the middle of an enchanting forest. Soak up in the romantic natural spirit while listening to the rustling of the leaves and hissing water.

ALARÓ CASTLE Visiting ancient ruins Climb up the Puig d'Alaró mountain to enjoy stunning views of the Tramuntana, Palma and the surrounding countryside. A medium level, two-hour walk leads up to the Alaró Castle that sits on top of the mountain. It dates back to Moorish times and is now an impressive ruin that can be visited.

Scenic sea views In the shadow of old pines, the easy Volta des General trail goes from the beautiful village of Banyalbufar along the coast to the tiny fishing village of Port des Canonge. You will probably stop every few minutes capturing the stunning sea views.

The reservoirs Mallorca's two biggest reservoirs are hidden in the mountains but can easily be reached by car. Once there, you can go for a stroll around them, have a picnic and enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains. A perfect, light hiking option for families.

The Cúber reservoir is also a great starting point for a hike up the 1093 metre high Puig de l'Ofre. From its top you can enjoy marvellous views of the Serra de Tramuntana and the valley of Sóller.

SES FONTS UFANES Natural spectacle When coming to the island during the winter months you cannot miss this unique natural spectacle close to Campanet that only lasts a few days. Thanks to the heavy rains in autumn and winter the underground reservoirs in the area fill up until the water reaches the surface and the natural springs 'Fonts Ufanes' start to bubble. The springs are located in the middle of a forest by the public Finca Gabellí Petit and are well signposted.

SANCTUARY OF LLUC The perfect starting point The Monastery of Lluc is an ideal place to begin your adventure in the Tramuntana mountains. You can reach Mallorca's highest accessible peak, the Puig de Massanella, from there taking a quite challenging route up the mountains. There are also numerous caves, gorges and other hiking trails in this area that are waiting to be explored.

PORT DE POLLENÇA TO CALA BÓQUER Walking to the ocean This walk is a rather easy one for experienced hikers.

During approximately one and a half hours you get to see the beautiful Serra de Tramuntana mountains and lots of goats on a gentle path. Enjoy the views of the blue sea as you get closer to the Cala Bóquer cove.

Once there, take a dip in the crystal-clear water or go snorkelling around the rugged cliffs. In winter this cove is a perfect picnic spot.

SON BAULO TO SON SERRA DE MARINA A walk by the sea This easy two-hour walk is perfect for those who like sea views and history. The beautiful coastal route starts at the Son Baulo beach and ends in the relaxed little town of Son Serra de Marina. You walk along the deserted coastline passing ancient watch towers and the Necròpolis de Son Real, an impressive, largely above ground archaeological site. Take a moment here to soak in some history. Once you have reached Son Serra de Marina you can extend your hike to Colònia de Sant Pere.

Whether you are looking for a more quiet, relaxing hike with breathtaking sea views or challenges on high altitudes, the island offers numerous well-maintained and signposted hiking paths for all abilities and tastes.

PENÍNSULA DE LLEVANT The hiker's paradise Explore a more unknown part of Mallorca hiking through this natural park located at the end of the Alcúdia bay five kilometres north of Artà. There are several routes to choose from.

You can for example walk from the little sleepy town of Betlem to the natural reserve of Cap de Ferrutx or cross the Serra de Llevant hiking from Artà to the Ermita de Betlem. Untouched, vast nature and several stunning view points await you.

TALAIA D'ALCÚDIA Perfect for the kids Do you want to get to know Mallorca's north coast better? Then take this easy one-hour hike from the La Victòria hermitage up to the Talaia d'Alcúdia watch tower. Once there, a breathtaking panoramic view of the two bays of Alcúdia and Pollença awaits you. Even though there are some steeper sections, many hikers take their older kids here.

COLL BAIX The hidden cove The lower mountain range behind Alcúdia offers many fantastic hiking routes of all levels. You can for example start in Alcanada, at the Talaia d'Alcúdia or directly at the Refugi des Coll Baix to hike to the relatively unknown, hidden cove of Coll Baix where you will find a stunning virgin beach.

CALA TORTA TO CALA AGULLA Beautiful coastal hike Discover the island's breathtaking east coast on several pleasant hiking trails for all levels. You can either start in Cala Torta or for a shorter hike in Cala Mesquida until you reach the beautiful Cala Agulla with its shade-giving pine trees and crystalline water. Some of the paths lead through forests, others take you up the mountains. Hike up to the Talaia Son Jaumell for spectacular views of both Cala Agulla and Cala Mesquida.

PUIG DE SANT SALVADOR Unique island views This uphill hike takes you along a pilgrim route about 500 metres up the Puig de Sant Salvador to the Sant Salvador Sanctuary that was built in 1348. From there you have one of the best panoramic views of the island.

Mallorca has two mountain ranges, the Serra de Tramuntana and the lower Llevant mountain range. There are five peaks on the island that reach more than 1,000 metres.

The Puig Major is the highest mountain with 1,445 metres followed by the Puig de Massanella with 1,364 metres.

LA RUTA DE PIEDRA SECA GR221 Desafío Extremo Si eres un verdadero aficionado al senderismo, no puedes perderte la legendaria ruta de piedra seca de Mallorca: 135 kilómetros que recorren toda la Serra de Tramuntana. Desde Port d'Andratx hasta Pollença, esta ruta es un verdadero desafío de larga distancia que requiere de varios días para completarla y consta de diferentes etapas que varían en longitud y dificultad. Algunos de los senderos son más fáciles y están mejor señalizados que otros. Conoce a otros excursionistas y pasa la noche en uno de los típicos refugios de la ruta para coger fuerzas.

SAN TELMO A LA TRAPA Una caminata a lo largo de la costa Esta ruta de senderismo de nivel fácil comienza en San Telmo, en el extremo occidental de la Serra de Tramuntana. Una hermosa ruta costera conduce a las ruinas del Monasterio de La Trapa. Una vez allí, regálate un picnic y relájate disfrutando de las espléndidas vistas panorámicas de la isla de Sa Dragonera.

BANYALBUFAR A PORT DES CANONGE Vistas panorámicas al mar A la sombra de los pinos, el cómodo sendero de Volta des General te llevará desde el hermoso pueblo de Banyalbufar a lo largo de la costa hasta el pequeño pueblo pesquero de Port des Canonge. SES FONTS UFANES Un espectáculo natural Si visitas la isla durante los meses de invierno, no te puedes perder este espectáculo natural único que tiene lugar cerca de Campanet y solo dura unos días.

Gracias a las fuertes lluvias de otoño e invierno, los acuíferos subterráneos de la zona se llenan hasta que el agua llega a la superficie y los manantiales naturales "Fonts Ufanes" comienzan a brotar. Están ubicados en el mitad de un bosque junto a la Finca pública de Gabellí Petit y están bien señalizados.

SANCTUARIO DE LLUC El punto de partida perfecto El Monasterio de Lluc es un lugar ideal para comenzar su aventura en la Sierra de Tramuntana. Podrás alcanzar el pico más alto accesible de Mallorca, el Puig de Massanella, y desde allí tomar una ruta bastante desafiante hasta las montañas. Hay numerosas cuevas, barrancos y otras rutas de senderismo esperando a ser exploradas.

PORT DE POLLENÇA A CALA BÓQUER Caminando hacia el océano Un paseo relativamente fácil para excursionistas experimentados. Durante aproximadamente una hora y media podrás disfrutar de la hermosa Serra de Tramuntana y de muchas cabras que aparecerán en el camino y de las vistas del mar azul a medida que te acercas a Cala Bóquer. En invierno, esta cala es un lugar perfecto para un picnic.

TALAIA D'ALCÚDIA Perfecto para familias con niños ¿Quieres conocer mejor la costa norte de Mallorca?

Haz esta caminata de 1 hora desde la ermita de La Victòria hasta la torre de vigilancia de Talaia d'Alcúdia.

Una vez allí, te espera una impresionante vista panorámica de las bahías de Alcúdia y Pollença. A pesar de que hay algunas secciones más empinadas, muchos excursionistas llevan a sus hijos.

PUIG DE SANT SALVADOR Vistas únicas de la isla Esta caminata cuesta arriba te lleva a lo largo de una ruta de peregrinación a unos 500 metros subiendo por el Puig de Sant Salvador hasta el Santuario de Sant Salvador, construido en 1348. Desde allí tendrás una de las mejores vistas panorámicas de la isla.

SON BAULO A SON SERRA DE MARINA COLL BAIX Una cala escondida La cordillera inferior detrás de Alcúdia ofrece muchas rutas de senderismo fantásticas para todos los niveles. Por ejemplo, se puede comenzar en Alcanada, en la Talaia d'Alcúdia o directamente en el Refugi des Coll Baix para ir de excursión a la casi desconocida y escondida cala de Coll Baix, una impresionante playa virgen.

Historia y arqueología Esta caminata fácil de 2 horas es perfecta para aquellos que disfrutan con la Historia y las vistas del mar. Esta hermosa ruta costera comienza en la playa de Son Baulo y termina en el pequeño y relajado pueblo de Son Serra de Marina. Camina a lo largo de la costa desierta pasando por torres de vigilancia antiguas y la Necrópolis de Son Real, un sitio arqueológico impresionante. Una vez que hayas llegado a Son Serra de Marina, puedes extender tu caminata hasta la Colònia de Sant Pere.

global citi zens Endless sunshine, a lively capital and an international feeling. Studying in Mallorca sounds like a student's dream come true. But is it really as exciting and enriching as many imagine it? We talked to some students to get an insight of what it's like to study at an international school on the island.

I

t's autumn. Time to get back to school or even start the next chapter at a new one. Numerous families move to Mallorca every year in search of a more relaxed, family-friendly place. They come from Sweden, Germany, England, France or other countries. And many of them are looking for international schools to offer their kids a unique learning experience. Among the numerous great schools in Mallorca is Palma College, an international sixth form college in the heart of Palma.

It unites students of many different nationalities and backgrounds who not only get prepared for university and careers but also for life.

Carolina, a student at Palma College, was born in Mallorca but her family is from Sweden. Even though she has always lived in Mallorca she has been educated in a Swedish system. Some other students haven't always lived on the island. “I was born in Munich, Germany, but I grew up on a sailing boat. So sometimes I like to say I come from the sea“, says Fabio, who moved to Mallorca at the age of six with his family.

Carolina likes being able to speak the four languages she knows with fellow students. Swedish, Spanish, Catalan, English, German and French are some of the languages spoken at Palma College and on the whole island. At the college the language use for teaching is English and all language classes are taught by native speakers.

Students also like sharing thoughts and experiences with people from different cultures. “The fact that so many students of different countries come together in the environment of a college creates a multicultural aura in which you can socialise in an open way with everyone,“ she tells us. One vital thing she has learnt at the international school is that “no matter how different we are in thoughts or where we come from there is one thing that brings us all together, the love for learning“.

Studying with people of different nationalities can have great advantages, such as intercultural understanding.

Muchos de ellos buscan escuelas internacionales para ofrecer a sus hijos una experiencia de aprendizaje única. Carolina está segura de que estudiar en una universidad multinacional la ayudará en el futuro, ya que será "más abierta de mente cuando se trata de conocer gente nueva y compartir mis pensamientos y cultura con ellos".

Wir haben mit einigen Studenten gesprochen, um einen Einblick zu bekommen, wie es ist, an einer internationalen Schule auf der Insel zu studieren.

s ist Herbst. Zeit, zurück in die Schule zu gehen oder gar ein neues Kapitel zu beginnen. Zahlreiche Familien ziehen jedes Jahr nach Mallorca um einen entspannten, familienfreundlicheren Ort zu finden. Sie kommen aus Schweden, Deutschland, England, Frankreich oder anderen Ländern. Und viele von ihnen suchen nach internationalen Schulen, um ihren Kindern eine einzigartige Lernerfahrung zu bieten. Es gibt zahlreiche gute Schulen auf Mallorca. Das Palma College, eine internationale Oberschule im Herzen von Palma, ist eine davon. Es vereint Studierende unterschiedlicher Nationalitäten und Herkunft, die nicht nur auf Studium und Beruf, sondern auch auf das Leben vorbereitet werden.

Carolina, eine Palma College-Studentin, wurde auf Mallorca geboren, ihre Familie stammt jedoch aus Schweden.

Obwohl sie schon immer auf Mallorca lebte, wurde sie ihr Leben lang im schwedischen System unterrichtet. Einige andere Studenten haben nicht immer auf der Insel gelebt. „Ich wurde in München geboren, bin aber auf einem Segelboot aufgewachsen. Deshalb sage ich manchmal, ich komme vom Meer“, sagt Fabio, der im Alter von sechs Jahren mit seiner Familie nach Mallorca zog.

Andere Studenten kommen aus Spanien, Südamerika, Frankreich und anderen Ländern. Carolina mag es, die vier Sprachen, die sie kennt, mit ihren Kommilitonen zu sprechen. Schwedisch, Spanisch, Katalanisch, Englisch, Deutsch und Französisch sind einige der am Palma College und auf der ganzen Insel gesprochenen Sprachen.

Carolina liebt es außerdem, Gedanken und Erfahrungen mit Menschen aus verschiedenen Kulturen zu teilen. „Die Tatsache, dass so viele Studenten aus verschiedenen Ländern am College zusammenkommen, schafft eine multikulturelle Aura, in der man offen Kontakte knüpfen kann“, erzählt sie uns. Eine wichtige Sache, die sie an der internationalen Schule gelernt hat, ist: „Egal wie unterschiedlich wir in Gedanken sind oder woher wir kommen, eine Sache bringt uns alle zusammen, die Liebe zum Lernen.“ Das Studieren mit Menschen verschiedener Nationalitäten kann große Vorteile bringen, wie etwa interkulturelles Verständnis. Carolina ist sicher, dass das multinationale College ihr in Zukunft helfen wird, aufgeschlossener zu sein, „wenn es darum geht, neue Leute zu treffen und meine Gedanken und meine Kultur mit ihnen zu teilen“.

Breaking the Silence For more than a decade, Elizabeth Homberg, president of FundaciĂłn RANA, has been working on the Balearic Islands, together with her experienced team of professional psychologists, social educators and public relations managers, to combat sexual abuse of children. A global stigma that affects, according to the Council of Europe, one of five children on our continent.

ana is committed to tackling sexual abuse of children and collective ignorance. In the beginning, the organisation started raising society's awareness on the streets in a progressive way. With campaigns like 'The real monsters do not live in stories','# ni1abusoinfantilmas' and '# yosoyrana', the foundation urged adults to get involved in the active protection of children, whether they are sons or daughters, patients in the case of health professionals, or students.

The campaigns served as a call of attention to take responsibility. They gradually opened the doors to hundreds of schools on the islands, which has to date allowed 26,897 primary students between 6 and 11 years of age to receive a life education. They now all know what to do, how to recognise and react to a person who intends to abuse their innocence. They recognise the tricks that these persons will use to intimidate them, the blackmail and the secrets that they will be asked to keep. The children learn that there are kisses and kisses, distinguishing those that are loaded with 'good love' from those that are not.

Thanks to the story 'Estela, shout very loudly!', a tool with which Rana educators and teachers reinforce the teaching of self-protection, the children have also learned that, if necessary, there will always be an adult willing to help them break the silence. Something that to date only ten percent of the victims do.

Preventing sexual abuse isn't a simple task but key for our children to grow up safely and happily. The foundation dedicates a programme to kids and young adults, 4,390 to date, that teaches them in their schools to build healthy interpersonal relationships and to be aware that the internet in general and social networks in particular are a minefield that must be handled with responsibility. And, of course, Rana

approaches the parents through the talk 'Educate our children today. Know the risks to prevent', which aims at deepening the need to strengthen the emotional bond with their children. Furthermore the foundation can't ignore those people, now adults, who were victims of sexual abuse in their childhood or adolescence. They are also part of the Rana network, which is precisely what Rana stands for, the Red de Ayuda de Ninos Abusados (help network for abused children). So far 300 persons have participated in the psychological therapies the foundation provides, burying once and for all the guilt and other negative emotions that they dragged with them for years.

The foundation's resources are sparse but it is obvious that the team manages them well, which allows the organisation to grow in a sustainable manner. It is supported by the public administration and some private entities, which choose the foundation as the recipient of a part of their funds available for corporate responsibility causes. But the foundation needs to reach more and more children and young people.

Therefore, with the help of volunteers, the team organises activities every year that combine awareness raising with fundraising such as their charity gala.

Some of the events take place on the street, like the annual street market that was held in September.

There are several options to collaborate for a good cause, from becoming a member with a minimum contribution of ten euros per month to making a onetime donation. You can even choose Rana as an heir or become a Rana-friendly company by organising events, transferring installations and / or financing part of their programmes. Of course there is also always the option of joining the Rana family as an active volunteer.

Together we can get children to enjoy their childhood like we did. A better world is possible.

Rompiendo el silencio Elizabeth Homberg, presidenta de Fundación RANA, lleva más de una década trabajando junto a un experimentado equipo de psicólogos, trabajadores sociales y relaciones públicas para luchar contra el abuso sexual infantil. Un estigma global que afecta, según el Consejo Europeo, a 1 de cada 5 niños en nuestro continente.

ana está empeñada en enfrentar el abuso sexual infantil y el desconocimiento colectivo.

Primero la organización empezo sensibilizando a la sociedad en las calles de manera progresiva.

Con campañas de concienciación como 'Los verdaderos monstruos no habitan en los cuentos', '#ni1abusoinfantilmas' y '#yosoyrana', instaron a la implicación de los adultos en la protección activa de los niños, ya sean hijos o hijas, pacientes, en el caso de los profesionales sanitarios, o alumnos.

Las campañas serviron como una llamada de atención a la responsabilidad. De manera paulatina abrieron las puertas de cientos de colegios de las islas, lo que ha permitido que 26.897 estudiantes de primaria de entre 6 y 11 años hayan recibido hasta la fecha una enseñanza de vida. Todos ellos ahora saben qué hacer, cómo reconocer y reaccionar ante una persona que pretenda abusar de su inocencia.

Conocen las tretas que usarán estas personas para intimidarles, el chantaje y los secretos que les pedirán guardar. Los niños saben que hay besos y besos, distinguiendo los que están cargados de 'amor del bueno' de los que no. Conocer los riesgos para prevenir', que ahonda en la necesidad de potenciar el vínculo afectivo con los hijos. Y en la red, que es precisamente lo que teje Rana, Red de Ayuda a Niños Abusados, no podían obviar a aquellas personas, hoy adultas, que fueron víctimas de abuso sexual en su infancia o adolescencia. Hasta el momento han sido 300 las que han participado en las terapias psicológicas que proporciona la fundación, enterrando de una vez por todas la culpa y otras tantas emociones negativas que arrastraron durante años.

Los recursos de la fundación son exiguos pero es obvio que el equipo los gestiona bien, lo que les permite crecer de manera sostenible. Cuentan con la ayuda de la administración pública y el soporte de algunas entidades privadas, que eligen a la fundación como destinataria de un margen de sus fondos destinados a la responsabilidad corporativa.

Pero la fundación necesita llegar a más y más niños y jóvenes. Así que con la ayuda de sus voluntarios el equipo organiza cada año actividades que combinan la sensibilización con la recaudación, como su gala benéfica. Unos eventos tienen lugar en la calle, como el mercadillo anual en Septiembre.

Opciones de colaborar con esta buena causa hay muchas, desde convertirse en socio con una aportación mínima de diez euros mensuales, a realizar una donación puntual. Tambien puedes elegir a la fundación como beneficiario de herencia o convertir tu empresa en empresa amiga de Rana, ya sea organizando eventos, cediendo instalaciones y/o financiando parte de sus programas. Einige der Veranstaltungen finden auf der Straße statt, wie der jährliche Straßenmarkt im September.

Marketing & Event Manager WHERE DO YOU LIVE? I live in Palma de Mallorca. Although I have Lebanese and Croatian roots, I was born in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, the heart of South America.

HOW AND WHEN DID YOUR CAREER AS AN ENTREPRENEUR START? I studied business administration and economics, and I specialized in marketing and corporate communication. Then I started working at a young age in the marketing department of the renowned advertising agency JWT. Later I decided to start my own project focused on marketing and event organisation.

Estudié Administración de Empresas y Economía, y me especialicé en Marketing y Comunicación Corporativa. Comencé a trabajar muy joven en el departamento de marketing de una de las agencias de publicidad más conocidas alrededor del mundo, JWT. Después decidí emprender mi propio proyecto centrado en el marketing y la organización de eventos.

Ich hatte nie einen anderen Beruf. Ich liebe meine Arbeit. Ich habe Betriebswirtschaftslehre studiert und mich auf Marketing und Unternehmenskommunikation spezialisiert. Ich habe schon in jungen Jahren in der Marketingabteilung der weltbekannten Werbeagentur JWT gearbeitet. Später beschloss ich, ein eigenes Projekt zu starten, das sich auf Marketing und Event-Organisation konzentriert.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR CURRENT PROJECTS AND WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE FUTURE? I currently manage the marketing and communication department of Espacio Home Design Group, a company dedicated to the luxury interior sector in Mallorca. I'm a marketing, communication and event marketing specialist and also organize two annual events on the island and the peninsula: Marketing Rocks and Woman Rocks. Woman Rocks is a very special project focused on the empowerment of women. For the third time it will take place in Palma this November. Right now I'm in a stage of personal and professional growth. In the future I see myself happy and working in what I'm passionate about.

Actualmente dirijo el Departamento de Marketing y Comunicación de Espacio Home Design Group, una empresa dedicada al sector del interiorismo de lujo en Mallorca. Además, soy especialista en marketing, comunicación, event marketing y organizo dos eventos anuales en Mallorca y la península: Marketing Rocks y Woman Rocks. Woman Rocks es un proyecto muy especial enfocado al empoderamiento de la mujer, y que por tercera vez tendrá lugar en Palma en Noviembre de este año. Ahora mismo me encuentro en una etapa de crecimiento personal y profesional. En un futuro me veo feliz y trabajando en lo que me apasiona.

Ich bin Marketing-, Kommunikations- und Event-Marketing-Spezialistin und organisiere zwei Veranstaltungen im Jahr auf Mallorca und der Halbinsel: Marketing Rocks und Woman Rocks. Woman Rocks ist ein besonderes Projekt, das der Stärkung von Frauen gewidmet ist. Es wird zum dritten Mal im November in Palma stattfinden. When I was living in the States, I started my own entertainment magazine focused on concerts, events, festivals, etc. for the smaller towns in the area. This was before the internet was a big thing, so people were really lacking a way to know what was going on in the surrounding area.

Cuando vivía en los Estados Unidos, comencé mi propia revista de entretenimiento centrada en conciertos, eventos, festivales, etc. Para las ciudades más pequeñas de la zona. WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT PROFESSION? I am a designer and consultant for outdoor living projects. My company is Mashamba Design. I work with clients who want to create something special for their terraces, patios, pool areas and chill-out areas.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB? The challenge of coming up with a great design for each different project. But what I love even more is the moment when a project is completed after watching it evolve from an idea and concept into a final reality. I find it fascinating how undervalued and overlooked the outdoor living areas are in Mallorca. I mean people move here to spend more time outside, yet oftentimes the outdoor living areas are the last thing they think about while planning a renovation project. I hope to change that way of thinking!

El desafío de crear un gran diseño para cada proyecto diferente. Pero lo que amo aún más es el momento en que se completa un proyecto después de verlo evolucionar de una idea y un concepto a una realidad final. Me parece increíble ver cómo se infravaloran y se pasan por alto los espacios exteriores en Mallorca. Quiero decir que las personas se mudan aquí para pasar más tiempo al aire libre, sin embargo, a menudo los exteriores son lo último que piensan al planificar un proyecto de renovación. ¡Espero cambiar esa forma de pensar!

Mich überrascht, wie unterbewertet und wenig beachtet die Außenwohnbereiche auf Mallorca werden. Die Leute ziehen hierher, um draußen mehr Zeit zu verbringen, aber oft sind die Außenwohnbereiche das letzte, worüber sie bei der Planung einer Renovierung nachdenken. Ich hoffe, diese Denkweise zu ändern!

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE FUTURE, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH? I am really focused now on growing and establishing Mashamba Design as a brand that people start to recognize and associate with luxurious and elegant outdoor living projects. I would like to perfect a signature style over the next few years, and see the business grow and become successful.

HOW AND WHEN DID YOUR CAREER AS AN ENTREPRENEUR BEGIN? My background is in finance. I worked in the finance department of big companies in London. After being abroad for some years I came back to Mallorca. It was when I discovered my creative side that I began my career as an entrepreneur and really started to enjoy my work. After working for other magazines and as a marketing director I started my own business in marketing and branding on the island. Over time the great opportunity to produce Look Mallorca came up.

Mi formación es en finanzas. Trabajé en el departamento de finanzas de grandes compañías en Londres.

Después de estar en el extranjero por algunos años, volví a Mallorca. Fue cuando descubrí mi lado creativo y comenzó mi carrera como emprendedora y realmente empecé a disfrutar de mi trabajo. Después de trabajar para otras revistas y como directora de marketing, comencé mi propio negocio de marketing y branding para empresas de la isla. Con el tiempo surgió la gran oportunidad de producir Look Mallorca.

Nachdem ich einige Jahre im Ausland verbracht hatte, kam ich zurück nach Mallorca. Als ich meine kreative Seite entdeckte, begann ich meine Karriere als Unternehmerin und meine Arbeit wirklich zu genießen. Nachdem ich für andere Magazine und als Marketing Director gearbeitet hatte, gründete ich mein eigenes Marketing- und Brandingunternehmen. Nach einer Weile ergab sich die Chance, Look Mallorca zu produzieren.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK? I love the fact that after all the work the team puts in to every single edition the result is a product that both our readers and clients enjoy. Although I know I'm not going to change the world, every issue of Look Mallorca allows me to support entrepreneurs, promote social consciousness and organisations or movements that are actively protecting our environment, which gives me great satisfaction.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR CURRENT PROJECTS? We are working on making Look Mallorca grow even more in number and quality. I am also trying to combine my work duties with my new role as a mother. I would like to keep the wonderful balance between enjoying my work, free time with my family and taking advantage of the mallorquin lifestyle.

Estamos trabajando para que Look Mallorca crezca aún más en número y calidad. También estoy tratando de combinar mis deberes laborales con mi nuevo papel como madre. HOW AND WHEN DID YOUR CAREER AS AN ENTREPRENEUR BEGIN? I have a degree in business management and marketing and worked for ten years in banking. When my twins were born I stopped working at the bank and two years later, after having dedicated all my time to them, I decided it was my time. I had been thinking about creating an online shop for years. I found a great team to design and program the web site and within six months I launched it.

Estoy licenciada en Dirección de Empresa y Marketing y trabajé durante diez años en banca. Al nacer mis mellizos terminé en el banco y dos años después, tras haberles dedicado todo mi tiempo, decidí que era mi momento. Hacía años que la idea de una tienda online me rondaba por la cabeza. Me rodeé de un buen equipo para el diseño y la programación de la web y en seis meses la lancé.

Ich habe einen Abschluss in Business Management und Marketing und arbeitete zehn Jahre im Bankwesen. Als meine Zwillinge geboren wurden, hörte ich auf, in der Bank zu arbeiten, und zwei Jahre später, nachdem ich all meine Zeit ihnen gewidmet hatte, entschied ich, dass es meine Zeit war. Ich hatte lange daran gedacht, einen Online Shop zu gründen. Ich fand ein tolles Team, welches die Webseite entwarf und programmierte.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK? Finding products that excite me. If I see them and my heart beats faster I don't stop until I get them for my store. I also like the dynamic of social networks, especially Instagram.

Colourful paintings

inspired by Mallorca Alina Poloboc surely is an exceptional woman who knows what she wants. The former TV presenter turned artist and left her home country Moldova to find her happiness in Mallorca. She now creates the most beautiful paintings in bright and bold colours inspired by the island and her new life here.

T

he gorgeous-looking and open-minded artist had never imagined that she would live in Mallorca one day. Hope and determination have helped her start a new life on the island, “because I'm a dreamer and I think if you really want something you will get it.”

The 26-year-old moved to the island over one and a half years ago. She fell in love with it as soon as she set foot on it. “Mallorca is the best place for painters and artists, it has the best light for painting.“ Initially, the young artist studied international relations at the University of Moldova. After graduating she worked as a presenter of a morning television show for one of the biggest channels in Moldova's capital. It was an amazing and beautiful experience for her. However, Alina didn't want to stay in her home country. She just didn't see a future in Moldova but wanted to find a place in this world that would inspire her and where her dreams could come true. “I was always looking for a place to live where I could find comfort, peace and inspiration. Mallorca is the place where I found everything,” she happily says.

On the island Alina started dedicating herself to the work that makes her the happiest person in the world.

“I was painting every day and doing it out of simple pleasure and passion without imagining that someday it would become my profession.“ After she had finished ten paintings, some of her friends encouraged Alina to organize her first exhibition in Mallorca. And so her artistic career, which she had never planned, began.

“This is the biggest gift of my life and I'm so happy that I transformed my passion into my work.“ Art is very important for Alina and she feels lucky to be able to work as an artist because it gives her the opportunity to express herself and to create new and unique things. Her favorite technique is painting with oil, sometimes also acrylic paint. She likes experimenting with different materials and techniques because “you never know what you might discover or what style could be your favourite.“ What most fascinates her about art

is that she can paint hours or entire days without ever getting bored while the end results always amaze her.

Alina now mostly paints at her studio in Palma finding herself in her own world of imagination, colours and dreams. Sometimes she prefers painting outside though, on the beach or somewhere with a beautiful view.

The passionate, sensitive and creative painter describes her art style as abstract. Her colourful, expressive paintings are all different and unique in their own way. Many of them depict Alina's emotions and her personal experiences: “In my paintings I am 100% me. I often paint what I feel and in all my works I can see the evolutions and stages of life.” Besides that, people, things and life situations inspire her to paint every day. “In Moldova we have a saying, 'the appetite comes eating', and in my case the inspiration comes when I'm painting.“ For her, painting is like a soul and mental therapy. A refuge where she finds peace and can recharge her batteries.

Alina now lives from her paintings. She mostly sells to clients or buyers outside of Mallorca. Many of them are Swedes, Swiss or Italians who know her personally or on recommendation. The artist also organizes exhibitions where she sells her paintings. She admits that it can be difficult to make a living as an artist but it's not impossible, “if you work hard and know not just to paint but also a bit of marketing and how to sell your paintings.”

At the end of July, the artist organized an exhibition with the Joy Ron foundation that helps children in need.

A certain percentage of the money earned through the sales of her paintings was donated to this foundation.

For October and December she has planned two exhibitions outside of Spain. Alina won't stop exploring the world and discovering different cultures. She is currently working on plans to move to the USA where she would love to exhibit her work. This talented and life-loving artist never stops dreaming...

Alina Poloboc es una mujer excepcional que sabe lo que quiere.

La ex presentadora de televisión ahora transformada en artista dejó su país natal, Moldavia, para encontrar la felicidad en Mallorca. Ahora pinta cuadros de colores atrevidos y vibrantes inspirados en la isla y en su nueva vida aquí.

L

a bella y extrovertida artista nunca imaginó que algún día viviría en Mallorca. La esperanza y la determinación la han ayudado a comenzar una nueva vida en la isla, "porque soy una soñadora, creo que si realmente quieres algo lo conseguirás". La joven de 26 años se mudó a la isla hace algo más de un año y medio. Se enamoró en el momento que puso su pie aquí. "Mallorca es el mejor lugar para pintores y artistas, aquí se encuentra la mejor luz para pintar".

Inicialmente, la joven artista estudió Relaciones Internacionales en la Universidad de Moldavia.

Después de graduarse, trabajó como presentadora de un programa de televisión matutino para uno de los canales más importantes de la capital. Para ella, una experiencia increíble y hermosa. Sin embargo, Alina no quería quedarse en su país de origen. Simplemente no veía un futuro en Moldavia, pero quería encontrar un lugar en este mundo que la inspirara y donde sus sueños se volvieran realidad. “Siempre busqué un lugar en el que vivir donde encontrar tranquilidad, paz e inspiración. Encontré en Mallorca todo lo que buscaba”, dice feliz.

El arte es muy importante para Alina y se siente afortunada de poder trabajar como artista porque le da la oportunidad de expresarse y crear cosas nuevas y únicas. Su técnica favorita es el óleo, a veces también pintura acrílica. Le gusta experimentar con diferentes materiales y técnicas porque "nunca se sabe qué es lo que descubrirás o qué estilo podría ser tu favorito". Lo que más le fascina del arte es que puede pintar horas o días enteros sin aburrirse, y los resultados finales siempre le asombran.

Actualmente, Alina pinta principalmente en su estudio en Palma donde se encuentra en su propio mundo de imaginación, colores y sueños. A veces prefiere pintar afuera, en la playa o en algún lugar con una vista hermosa.

La apasionada, sensible y creativa artista describe su estilo como abstracto. Sus coloridas y expresivas pinturas son todas diferentes y únicas. Muchos de

ellas representan las emociones y las experiencias personales de Alina: "En mis cuadros soy 100% yo. A menudo pinto lo que siento y en todos mis trabajos puedo ver las evoluciones y las etapas de mi vida ". Además de eso, las personas, las cosas y las situaciones de la vida la inspiran a pintar todos los días. "En Moldavia tenemos un dicho, 'el apetito viene de comer', y en mi caso, la inspiración viene cuando estoy pintando". Para ella, pintar es como un alma y una terapia mental. Un refugio donde encuentra paz y puede recargar sus baterías. Alina vive de sus pinturas. Principalmente vende a compradores fuera de Mallorca: suecos, suizos o italianos que la conocen personalmente o por recomendación. La artista también organiza exposiciones donde vende sus pinturas. Admite que puede ser difícil ganarse la vida como artista, pero no es imposible, "si trabajas duro y sabes no solo pintar, sino también un poco de marketing y cómo vender tus cuadros".

A finales de julio, organizó una exposición con la fundación JoyRon que ayuda a niños necesitados.

Un porcentaje de las ventas de sus pinturas lo donó a esta fundación. Para octubre y diciembre, ha organizado dos exposiciones fuera de España.

Alina no va a parar de explorar el mundo y descubrir diferentes culturas. Actualmente está trabajando en planes para mudarse a los Estados Unidos, donde le encantaría exponer su trabajo. Con talento y amante de la vida nunca deja de soñar...

Und so begann ihre künstlerische Laufbahn. „Es ist das größte Geschenk und ich bin so glücklich, dass ich meine Leidenschaft in meine Arbeit umwandeln konnte.“ Kunst ist sehr wichtig für Alina und sie ist froh, als Künstlerin arbeiten zu können, weil es ihr die Möglichkeit gibt, sich auszudrücken und neue, einzigartige Dinge zu schaffen. Ihre Lieblings-Technik ist das Malen mit Ölfarben, manchmal auch mit Acrylfarben. Sie experimentiert gerne mit verschiedenen Materialien und Techniken, weil „man nie weiß, was man entdeckt oder welchen Stil man am liebsten hat“. Was sie an Kunst fasziniert, ist, dass sie Stunden oder Tage malen kann, ohne jemals gelangweilt zu sein und sie die Endresultate immer überraschen.

Alina malt nun hauptsächlich in ihrem Atelier in Palma, in ihrer eigenen Welt der Fantasie, Farben und Träume. An manchen Tagen malt sie lieber draußen, am Strand oder irgendwo mit einer schönen Aussicht.

ie hübsche, aufgeschlossene Künstlerin Alina Poloboc hatte nie im Sinn, eines Tages auf Mallorca zu leben. Hoffnung und Entschlossenheit haben ihr geholfen, ein neues Leben auf der Insel zu beginnen, „weil ich eine Träumerin bin und denke, wenn du etwas wirklich willst, wirst du es bekommen“. Die 26-Jährige zog vor anderthalb Jahren auf die Insel. Sie verliebte sich sobald sie Fuß darauf setzte. „Mallorca ist der beste Ort für Maler und Künstler, hier ist das beste Licht.“ Zunächst studierte die junge Künstlerin internationale Beziehungen an der Universität von Moldawien.

Nach ihrem Abschluss arbeitete sie als Moderatorin einer Fernsehshow für einen der größten Sender in Moldawiens Hauptstadt. Eine wunderbare Erfahrung.

Alina wollte jedoch nicht in ihrem Heimatland bleiben.

Sie sah ihre Zukunft nicht in Moldawien, sondern wollte einen Ort finden, der sie inspiriert und wo ihre Träume wahr werden können. „Ich war immer auf der Suche nach einem Ort, an dem ich Geborgenheit, Frieden und Inspiration finden kann. Auf Mallorca habe ich all das gefunden“, sagt sie glücklich.

Auf der Insel begann Alina sich der Arbeit zu widmen, die sie zur glücklichsten Person der Welt macht. „Ich malte jeden Tag aus einfachem Vergnügen und Leidenschaft, ohne daran zu denken, dass es eines Tages mein Beruf werden würde.“ Nachdem sie zehn Gemälde fertiggestellt hatte, ermutigten einige ihrer Freunde Alina, ihre erste

Ich male oft, was ich fühle, und in all meinen Werken kann ich die Entwicklungen und Phasen des Lebens sehen.“ Außerdem inspirieren sie Menschen, Dinge und Lebenssituationen dazu, jeden Tag zu malen. Für Alina ist es eine mentale Seelentherapie. Ein Refugium, in dem sie Ruhe findet und auftanken kann.

Alina lebt mittlerweile von ihren Gemälden. Sie verkauft meist an Kunden außerhalb von Mallorca. Viele von ihnen sind Schweden, Schweizer oder Italiener, die sie persönlich oder durch Empfehlung kennen. Die Künstlerin organisiert auch Ausstellungen, wo sie ihre Gemälde verkauft. Sie gibt zu, dass es schwierig sein kann, einen Lebensunterhalt als Künstlerin zu verdienen, es ist jedoch nicht unmöglich, „wenn man hart arbeitet und nicht nur malen kann, sondern auch ein bisschen Ahnung von Marketing hat“.

Ende Juli organisierte die Künstlerin eine Ausstellung mit der Joy Ron Stiftung, die Kindern in Not hilft. Ein gewisser Prozentsatz des Geldes, das durch den Verkauf ihrer Bilder verdient wurde, wurde an diese Stiftung gespendet. Für Oktober und Dezember hat sie zwei Ausstellungen außerhalb Spaniens geplant. Alina möchte nicht aufhören, die Welt und verschiedene Kulturen zu entdecken. Momentan arbeitet sie an Plänen, in die USA zu ziehen, wo sie ihre Arbeiten gerne ausstellen würde.

JAIME SALVÀ A spacious, light-flooded dream house by the sea or in the beautiful countryside. Many people dream of owning a wonderful, customised home on the island. The Mallorca-born, architect Jaime Salvá and his team work hard and with a great dose of passion to create such stunning homes for their customers.

A

fter having worked in the United States for a while, Jaime Salvá opened his own studio on the famous Paseo del Borne in Palma in 2006 to live his dream job working as an architect.

Talking and listening to his clients during meetings Jaime understands their needs and analyses their way of inhabiting the house, in order to create something unique that reflects the client's soul. Taking into consideration urban regulations, the characteristics of the land, where the views are, where the light is and other aspects, Jaime starts creating the design and formal appearance of the building as well as a list of determinants. When designing, which to Jaime is the most beautiful part of his profession, he tries to adapt the house's form to the client's needs and make it as functional and simple as possible.

The architect usually starts a new project with paper and a pencil, looking for the perfect house distribution. “My aim is to reach a point where it seems that there is no other way to solve the design than the one finally made.”

He then moves on to the volumetric work, drawing in three dimensions. The design process takes a long time, much work and patience but Jaime doesn't stop until he is completely happy with the final design. “I'm discarding

alternatives that I can see do not work, and I'm not afraid to erase everything and start a new project from scratch if I notice that I'm not going in the right direction.”

What Jaime likes most about his profession is being able to create something. He says that in most cases the architectural process is very slow and many factors intervene. “That's why when the final result is finally obtained, and the client is happy, I feel a great satisfaction.”

There are many things that might inspire an architect. For Jaime it is mostly the world of arts.

“I am inspired by any artistic expression made with authenticity, be it a song, a movie, or an architectural building.” The architect also enjoys researching new trends and seeing projects of other architects he likes and who inspire him. One of them is the Danish architect Bjarke Ingels. Jaime admires the passion and originality he shows when presenting his projects. Other favourites are Carlos Ferrater and John Pawson whose simple and pure designs inspire the architect from Mallorca.

Jaime describes his own architectural style as 'contemporary Mediterranean'. He and his team apply

local materials to geometries that are determined by current needs, always looking for functional spaces and including some details. “I like that each project has at least one element that characterises it and makes it unique. A special corner, a functional aspect or something else.” Jaime prefers using natural materials and neutral tones while letting the furniture and decorative objects give the house some colour.

Asking him about current architectural trends on the island Jaime tells us that most of his clients request a lot of natural light and open spaces with clean and straight lines for their future houses.

Nowadays, great importance is also given to the kitchen, which functions as a social part of the house, together with the outdoor terraces. As for materials, Jaime's clients ask for details like natural stone walls, even in the interior of the house. The use of wood in vertical elements such as the facade or interior walls is also high in demand.

Jaime has finished numerous projects he can be proud of and has fulfilled many home owners' dreams. For him his greatest achievement as an architect is “getting new clients to come to my office because they have seen a project of mine and have liked it”. The architect and his team are currently working on approximately 50 projects in different phases. Most of them are singlefamily houses in Son Vida, Calviá, Andratx, Binissalem, Cala d'Or, Marratxí and other areas of the island. Jaime and his team are also working on buildings for multi-family housing in the areas of Cala Mayor, Son Armadams, Palma centre and Esporlas.

The ambitious and passionate architect is constantly renewing his dreams and works hard to keep fulfilling them little by little. But what's his biggest dream? “One of the projects I would like to do would be to design a public building that has an impact on society. I am very interested in the necessary renovation of these types of buildings, to adapt them to current needs.” Looking at the beautiful houses Jaime has designed over the past years we think this is a great idea.

espués de haber trabajado en Estados Unidos, Jaime abrió su propio estudio en el Paseo del Borne de Palma en el año 2006.

Escucha atentamente a sus clientes para entender sus necesidades y analizar su forma de vivir la casa, y para crear un espacio único que refleje la esencia de cada cliente. Tiene en cuenta las normativas urbanas, las características del terreno, donde están las mejores vistas, cómo aprovechar más la luz natural y otros aspectos. Lo que más le gusta de su profesión es adaptar las necesidades del cliente y crear un espacio funcional y lo más simple posible.

El arquitecto normalmente empieza un proyecto nuevo con papel y lápiz, buscando la distribución perfecta para la casa. “Mi objetivo es llegar al punto donde no hay otra manera de resolver el diseño, si no únicamente con el finalmente alcanzado”. Entonces pasa al trabajo volumétrico, dibujando en tres dimensiones. El proceso de diseño conlleva mucho tiempo, trabajo y mucha paciencia, pero Jaime no descansa hasta que está

completamente satisfecho con el diseño final. “Voy descartando alternativas que no funcionan, y no me importa volver a empezar el proyecto desde el principio si me doy cuenta que no voy en la dirección correcta.”

Le encanta la idea de que gracias a su profesión es capaz de crear algo nuevo. En muchos casos el proceso arquitectónico es muy lento y hay muchos factores implicados. “Por eso, cuando veo el resultado final y el cliente está contento, siento gran satisfacción”.

Hay muchas cosas que pueden inspirar a un arquitecto, para Jaime sobre todo es el mundo del arte. “Me inspira cualquier expresión artística hecha con autenticidad, ya sea una canción, una película o un edificio.”

Un rincón especial, un aspecto funcional...” Jaime prefiere usar materiales naturales en tonos neutros y dejar que el mobiliario y los objetos decorativos den la nota de color.

Le preguntamos por las actuales tendencias en arquitectura y nos dice que lo que más piden los clientes es mucha luz natural, espacios abiertos con líneas rectas y limpias. También le dan mucha importancia a la cocina, que funciona como una parte social de la casa, junto con las terrazas exteriores.

En cuanto a materiales, sobre todo piden paredes de piedra natural, incluso dentro de la casa. Y es muy popular elegir madera en elementos verticales como las fachadas o paredes interiores.

El arquitecto ha finalizado muchos proyectos de los que se siente orgulloso y los clientes han quedado muy contentos. Pero el mayor logro como arquitecto es “conseguir nuevos clientes que vienen a la oficina porque han visto un proyecto mío y les ha gustado”.

En la actualidad, trabaja en unos 50 proyectos que se encuentran en diferentes fases. La mayoría son casas unifamiliares en Son Vida, Calviá, Andratx, Binissalem, Cala d'Or, Marratxí y en otras áreas de la isla. También trabajan en bloques de apartamentos en Cala Mayor, Son Armadans, en el centro de Palma y Esporlas.

El ambicioso y apasionado arquitecto está constantemente renovándose y trabaja duro para alcanzar sus sueños poco a poco. ¿Pero cual es su mayor sueño? “Uno de los proyectos que me encantaría diseñar sería un edificio público que tuviera mucho impacto en la sociedad. Estoy muy interesado en la necesidad de renovar este tipo de edificios y adaptarlos a las necesidades actuales. Viendo todo lo que ha conseguido hasta ahora nos parece una buena idea.

Der Entwurfsprozess erfordert viel Zeit,

Arbeit und Geduld, aber Jaime hört nicht auf, bis er mit dem endgültigen Design vollkommen zufrieden ist. „Ich verwerfe Alternativen, die meiner Ansicht nach nicht funktionieren und habe keine Angst, alles zu streichen und ein neues Projekt von vorne anzufangen, wenn ich merke, dass ich nicht in die richtige Richtung gehe.“ Was Jaime an seinem Beruf am meisten mag, ist, etwas erschaffen zu können. Er erzählt, dass der architektonische Prozess in den meisten Fällen sehr langsam ist und viele Faktoren mit einspielen. „Deshalb bin ich am zufriedensten, wenn das Endergebnis endlich erreicht und der Kunde glücklich ist.“ Es gibt viele Dinge, die einen Architekten inspirieren können. Heutzutage wird auch der Küche, die zusammen mit den Außenterrassen als sozialer Raum des Hauses fungiert, große Bedeutung beigemessen. Was die Materialien anbelangt, wünschen Jaimes Kunden Details wie Natursteinwände, sogar im Inneren des Hauses. Die

Verwendung von Holz in vertikalen Elementen wie der Fassade oder den Innenwänden ist ebenfalls sehr gefragt.

Jaime hat zahlreiche Projekte abgeschlossen, auf die er stolz sein kann, und die Träume vieler Hausbesitzer erfüllt. Seine größte Leistung als Architekt ist für ihn „neue Kunden in meinem Büro zu begrüßen, weil sie ein Projekt von mir gesehen haben und es Ihnen gefallen hat".

A film-lover's dream home Espacio Home Design Group has participated in the design of several spaces in this modern and stunning house in Son Vida designed by the architect Rafael Balaguer.

his beautiful home in Son Vida features a beautiful interior with a spacious kitchen and living area, a large pool and two unique home cinemas for true film-lovers.

As for the kitchen, one of the peculiarities is remaining faithful to the minimal concept of the house by using pure white as the basis of the surfaces.

Thanks to the minimal design the walls made of marĂŠs stone and the most decorative elements stand out. In the barbecue area Corian was chosen as the optimum material for outdoor use. As a connecting link, the kitchen countertops are also made of this material. The models Artex and Alea de Varenna are undoubtedly the perfect example to respect the purity in the design that the client required.

The house's spaces have been specially designed so that a kitchen open to the home does not break into the harmony of the whole. There is a perfect harmony with the outdoor kitchen and the practicality of a kitchen for professional use designed for a complete team that has been thoroughly studied. In addition, two recreational spaces were created and converted into two movie theatres, one outdoor and one indoor.

The interior cinema is a cinema 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos that has three front speakers, Bowers & Wilkins CT Cinema series, along with two subwoofers behind the acoustically transparent screen and four surround speakers from Bowers & Wilkins CI-serie along with two ceiling speakers from the same series. Dank des minimalistischen Designs werden die Wände aus Marés-Stein und die dekorativen Elemente hervorgehoben. Im Grillbereich wurde Corian als optimales Material für den Außengebrauch ausgewählt.

Auch die Küchenarbeitsplatten sind aus diesem Material gefertigt. Die Modelle Artex und Alea de Varenna respektieren die Reinheit des Designs, das der Kunde wünschte.

Die Räume des Hauses wurden speziell so gestaltet, dass eine offene Küche nicht die Harmonie des Ganzen unterbricht. Es besteht eine perfekte Harmonie mit der Außenküche und der Praktikabilität einer Küche für den professionellen Gebrauch, die für ein komplettes Team entwickelt und gründlich studiert wurde.

Außerdem wurden zwei Erholungsräume geschaffen und in Kinos umgewandelt, eins befindet sich im Freien, das

andere im Innenbereich. Das Innenkino ist ein 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos Kino, ausgestattet mit drei Frontlautsprechern, der CT-Cinema-Serie von Bowers & Wilkins, zwei Subwoofern hinter dem akustisch transparenten Bildschirm und vier Surround-Lautsprechern der CI-Serie von Bowers & Wilkins sowie zwei Deckenlautsprechern aus der gleichen Serie. Darüber hinaus verfügt das Kino über einen Sony 4k-Projektor und Bojen der Marke Moovia, die speziell für den Raum entworfen wurden.

Das Outdoor-Kino verfügt über einen Projektor mit hoher Helligkeit, der durch einen speziellen Mechanismus verborgen ist. Zusammen mit dem elektrischen Bildschirm schafft er eine magische Atmosphäre, um einen Film zu sehen. Die kubusförmigen Lautsprecher und Subwoofer der Marke Architettura Sonora verleihen dem Ganzen eine einzigartige Note.

Beide Kinos werden vom Scena Touch Control-System gesteuert. Um dem Projekt den letzten Schliff zu geben, wurde ein LG-Fernseher mit 5.1-Surround-System in die Decke integriert, sowie mehr als 40 Lautsprecher im gesamten Haus der Marke Bowers & Wilkins mit RotelVerstärkung für einen exquisiten Sound in jedem Raum.

estled deep within the Tramuntana mountains by Valldemossa, along a steep windy track, lies the secret hideaway of Michael and Fred Jarboe. In 2016 the interior was renovated by More Design, while Mashamba Garden & Terrace Design was responsible for the exterior. The finca is truly spectacular. An homage to Mallorca’s traditions, architecture and dramatic scenery.

The finca remains an actively working farm with thousands of ancient olive trees producing some of the best oil on the island. Sheep roam between the dry-stone terraces, feeding on the natural aromatic mountainside scrub. The enormous views stretch in all directions with glimpses of the sea between the rocky crags, whilst vultures soar the thermals up above.

There is a sense of timelessness where modern life can be forgotten.

The stone house sits well within its surroundings whilst the finishes are a delicious blend between rustic and contemporary. Artistic terracotta pots and urns bring life and substance to the terraces and courtyard, whilst a Mediterranean designer garden, complete with a herb garden, lavender field, cypress terraces and floral pathways, wraps around the core areas of the house. Garden designer Alexander Warren-Gash says “I love this property. There is an element of ‘nature meets art’ about it. A fine balance between the rugged rural traditions and designer flair.”

Die Finca ist eine aktive Farm mit Tausenden von alten Olivenbäumen, die eine der besten Ölsorten der Insel produzieren. Schafe streifen zwischen den Terrassen umher und ernähren sich von dem aromatischen Gebirgsgestrüpp. Die weite Aussicht erstreckt sich in alle Richtungen mit Blick auf das Meer zwischen den felsigen Klippen, während Geier weit oben umher kreisen. Das Steinhaus ist eine wunderbare Mischung zwischen rustikal und modern. A blend of Scandinavian and British design this reformed apartment, a stone's thrown from the shoreline in Puerto Pollensa, is the permanent home of a Scandinavian couple who sought an interior designer to breathe light, life and colour into their home.

W

ith a love for entertaining, they discussed the possibility with interior designer Samantha Knight of turning their threebedroom apartment into an elegant open-plan living space designed for hosting and practical living.

Samantha Knight worked with Paul Robinson Construction to realise the design concept.

The apartment was converted from a ten-yearold property with no prevailing features into a contemporary space filled with architectural details, texture and bespoke fitted furniture to make the most of every inch of the property.

As a constructor with a natural eye for design, Paul was involved in concept meetings with the client and team briefings, adding creativity as well as technical expertise. Classical mouldings, cornicing and skirting were applied to the plaster, textured decorative paper inset into wall panels and finely crafted cabinetry with

brass detailing was installed throughout the property to provide beautiful and discreet storage.

Paul and his team carefully rearranged the accommodation. They removed original walls to breathe warm light into the apartment and deliver an open-plan living and kitchen arrangement for the clients who are keen cooks and host often. A freestanding bar completes the entertaining space and art deco bar stools upholstered in a vibrant mustard yellow set the scene for long evenings with friends. An oversized antique chandelier sits above a reclaimed dining table to create ambience and an imposing feature in the large space.

The original kitchen was refurbished and improved whilst appliances were replaced with culinary standard units. The original cupboard doors were sanded and resprayed in Farrow & Ball Cooking Apple Green to deliver a fresh Scandinavian feel throughout the property.

Custom Wardrobes Handcrafted open and closed wardrobe storage was carefully designed around the clients' hobbies and existing clothing with designated areas for sailing and golf outfits, handbags and shoes.

Originally three bedrooms, the rear of the apartment was reformed and made into a one large bedroom suite with a luxury dressing room.

Design elements include classical moulding, inset textured wallpaper and brass pull handles. An elegant chandelier creates ambient lighting while full height library shelving frames the opening between the bedroom and the dressing room.

Interior designer Samantha carefully sourced furniture from Mallorca as well as London, blending the laid-back elegance of the island with the sartorial influence of British fabrics and traditional upholstery methods. Samantha worked with a curtain maker in the south of the island to manufacture bespoke window treatments.

The bathrooms were refurbished with stone typical of the island and the fittings updated for a spa style experience. Art-deco wall lights spread a warm glow within the compact spaces and hand finished sink cabinets provide additional storage.

Throughout the apartment you will find brass door furniture and matching electrical plates for a coherent finish. The electrical elements from the UK were only one of the practical challenges that Paul managed effortlessly in order to meet the clients' wishes and deliver a diverse architectural and interior design package.

Europäischer Wohnstil

Eine Mischung aus skandinavischem und britischem Design. Diese renovierte Wohnung, nicht weit von der Küste in Puerto Pollensa entfernt, ist das Zuhause eines skandinavischen Paares, das Licht, Leben und Farbe in ihre Wohnung bringen wollte.

M

ithilfe der Innenarchitektin Samantha Knight wurde die Wohnung mit drei Schlafzimmern in einen eleganten, offenen Wohnraum umgewandelt, der praktisch ist und sich perfekt zum Empfangen von Gästen eignet. Samantha Knight arbeitete in diesem Designprojekt mit Paul Robinson Construction zusammen. Um das Beste aus jedem Winkel des Wohnraums herauszuholen, wurde die zehn Jahre alte, einfache Wohnung in einen modernen Wohnraum umgewandelt, der mit architektonischen Details, Materialien und maßgefertigten Möbeln ausgestattet ist.

Paul und sein Team gestalteten die Wohnung wohl bedacht um. Sie entfernten die ursprünglichen Wände, um warmes Licht in die Wohnung zu bringen. So entstand ein offenes Wohn- und Küchenkonzept nach den Wünschen der Kunden, die gerne kochen und oft Gäste empfangen. Eine freistehende Bar rundet den Wohnraum ab, während Art-Deco-Barhocker in kräftigem Senfgelb sich perfekt für lange Abende mit Freunden eignen. Ein antiker Kronleuchter über dem aufbereiteten Esstisch sorgt für eine spezielle Atmosphäre und sticht im großen Raum heraus.

Als Bauunternehmer mit einem ausgeprägten Sinn für Design war Paul an den Kunden und Teambesprechungen beteiligt und ließ sowohl Kreativität sowie technisches Know-How mit einfließen. Klassischer Stuck, Zierund Sockelleisten wurden auf den Putz aufgetragen, strukturierte, dekorative Tapeten wurden in Wandpaneele eingesetzt und fein gearbeitete Schränke mit Messingdetails, die eine ästhetische und diskrete Aufbewahrung garantieren, wurden in der Wohnung installiert.

Die Küche wurde renoviert und verbessert sowie mit Standardeinheiten ausgestattet. Die originalen Schranktüren wurden geschliffen und in Farrow & Ball Cooking Apple Green besprüht, um eine frische skandinavische Atmosphäre in der gesamten Wohnung zu schaffen.

Die ursprünglichen drei Schlafzimmer wurden in eine große Schlafzimmer-Suite mit einem luxuriösen Ankleidezimmer umgewandelt. Handgefertigte, offene und geschlossene Kleiderschränke wurden sorgfältig mit Bedacht auf die Hobbys und Kleidung der Kunden entworfen, mit eigenen Bereichen für Segel- und Golf-Outfits, Handtaschen und Schuhe. Zu den Designelementen gehören klassische Zierleisten, strukturierte Tapeten und Messing-Griffe. Ein eleganter Kronleuchter schafft eine stimmungsvolle Beleuchtung, während hohe Bücherregale Schlafzimmer und Garderobe voneinander trennen.

Innenarchitektin Samantha wählte mit Sorgfalt Möbel aus Mallorca und London aus, um die entspannte Eleganz der Insel mit maßgeschneiderten britischen Stoffen und traditionellen Polstermethoden zu verbinden. Samantha arbeitete mit einem Gardinenhersteller im Süden der Insel zusammen, um Vorhänge nach Maß zu kreieren.

Die Badezimmer wurden mit für die Insel typischen Steinen versehen und die Ausstattung erneuert um einen Spa-ähnlichen Raum zu schaffen. Art-DécoWandleuchten verbreiten ein warmes Licht, während handgefertigte Schränke zusätzlichen Stauraum bieten.

In der Wohnung findet man Messing-Details und passende Lichtschalter sowie Steckdosen für ein stimmiges Bild. Die elektrischen Elemente aus Großbritannien waren nur eine der praktischen Herausforderungen, die Paul mühelos bewältigte, um die Wünsche der Kunden zu erfüllen und ein vielfältiges architektonisches und Interior-Design-Paket zu liefern.

WHERE DID YOU MEET?

WHAT ABOUT CHANGES...

Nicholas: We met on the magical island of Hydra, Greece, in a bar. What ensued was a six-month-long pursuit of Nadine, this beautiful hot-shot producer/ presenter on CNBC TV.

DO THEY NEVER SCARE YOU?

WHICH COUNTRIES HAVE YOU LIVED IN? Nadine: I have moved around a lot. Both by choice and circumstance. Beirut, Cairo, Montreal, Dubai, Geneva, London and now Mallorca. Nicholas was born in Mallorca to a German father and American mother but spent most of his life living in London before moving back to Mallorca.

Nadine: I am all for change. With change comes growth. In fact, before I moved to Dubai to work with CNBC I had never been there on a visit. I just moved there straight away, confident that things would work out. Sometimes you just have to believe!

WHY MALLORCA? Nicholas: Mallorca is home for me. I grew up in Sóller and went to primary school on the island before moving to the UK. Also, it is a wonderful place for a young family. Our three-year-old loves it here and so do we. Quality of life is wonderful.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND Nicholas: I have a PhD in computing. I work as a tech entrepreneur and more recently I'm handling the family real estate business around the Mediterranean.

Nadine: My first job was as a business news presenter and producer for CNBC. I then left the corporate world to work as a sustainability consultant with organisations such as the United Nations Environment Program. I write for a London-based magazine called Ethical Corporation, often covering environmental and human rights issues.

In Mallorca I recently began organising high-end yoga retreats under the name Ananda Mallorca.

Nachdem sie rund um den Globus gereist sind und gearbeitet haben, genießen Nadine Hawa Ball und ihr Ehemann Nicholas Ball nun mit ihrem kleinen Sohn die Ruhe und Lebensqualität auf Mallorca.

WO HABEN SIE SICH GETROFFEN?

WAS MACHEN SIE BERUFLICH?

Nicholas: Wir trafen uns zum ersten Mal in einer Bar auf der magischen griechischen Insel Hydra. Es folgte eine sechsmonatige Verfolgung von Nadine, dieser wunderschönen Produzentin / Moderatorin von CNBC TV.

Nicholas: Ich habe einen Doktortitel in Informatik.

Ich arbeite als Tech-Unternehmer, bin in letzter Zeit aber auch im Immobiliengeschäft meiner Familie im Mittelmeerraum tätig.

IN WELCHEN LÄNDERN HABEN SIE SCHON GELEBT? Nadine: Ich bin viel rumgekommen. Sowohl aufgrund meiner eigenen Wahl als auch durch Lebensumstände. Beirut, Kairo, Montreal, Dubai, Genf, London und jetzt Mallorca. Nicholas wurde auf Mallorca geboren, hat einen deutschen Vater und eine amerikanische Mutter, verbrachte aber den größten Teil seines Lebens in London, bevor er zurück nach Mallorca zog.

Nadine: Mein erster Job war als Business Nachrichtensprecherin und Produzentin für CNBC. Ich verließ dann aber die Unternehmenswelt, um als Beraterin im Bereich Nachhaltigkeit mit Organisationen wie dem Umweltprogramm der Vereinten Nationen zu arbeiten. Ich schreibe für das Londoner Magazin Ethical Corporation, oft über Umwelt- und Menschenrechtsfragen. Auf Mallorca organisiere ich seit kurzem High-End Yoga Retreats unter dem Namen Ananda Mallorca.

HABEN SIE KEINE ANGST VOR VERÄNDERUNGEN? Nadine: Ich bin offen für Veränderungen. Aus Veränderungen entsteht Wachstum. Bevor ich nach Dubai gezogen bin, um für CNBC zu arbeiten, war ich noch nie dort gewesen. Ich bin einfach direkt dorthin gezogen, zuversichtlich, dass alles funktionieren würde.

WARUM MALLORCA? Nicholas: Mallorca ist meine Heimat. Ich bin in Sóller aufgewachsen und habe die Grundschule auf der Insel besucht, bevor ich nach Großbritannien gezogen bin. Es ist außerdem ein wunderbarer Ort für eine junge Familie. Unser Dreijähriger liebt es hier und wir auch. Die Lebensqualität ist wunderbar.
