#18 DAMONE CLARK POSITION: Linebacker HEIGHT: 6’3 WEIGHT: 245 lbs. CLASS: Senior HOMETOWN: Baton Rouge, La. MAJOR: Sport Administration HIGH SCHOOL: Southern Lab HS SEASON TEAM 2018-19 LSU 2019-20 LSU 2020-21 LSU Totals:

T

here is a rich tradition behind wearing #18 at LSU. I have been fortunate enough to wear it both this past year and this year as well. Some fantastic players have worn #18 before me and I am truly blessed and honored to be chosen to wear it. I see how much is expected of me and I will do everything I can to prove myself to LSU nation and the world this year! The tradition started with Matt Mauck who led LSU to their first national title in football since 1958. Mauck’s success both on and off the field and relentless attitude led to setting the standard for LSU as well as the #18. Players who carry the #18 jersey are expected to exhibit many of the same characteristics as Mauck himself demonstrated. To be named by the coaches and teammates at LSU is a big deal because it means that you are following in the footsteps of some of the greats who have worn the purple and gold. I never expected that I would be selected for such a prestigious number. Being selected to wear #18 in the locker room in front of my teammates and coaches will be a moment I will never forget. While I did not expect to be chosen, I was selected because I am a leader on the team who leads by example and sets the standard for LSU football. Another key factor in my selection is the fact that I am a high character guy. Tre’Davious White wore #18 in 2015-2016 and was a force to be reckoned with. In 2014 White was a Freshman All-SEC by the coaches, a 2015 2nd Team All-SEC, a 2016 Thorpe Award finalist, 2016 All-American, and was selected 27th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the last #18 to wear it two years in a row, followed by me this year. Both K’Lavon Chaisson and Lloyd Cushenberry were chosen to wear #18 in 2019. Both of those guys were high character guys, were leaders on the team, and players and fans were able to count on them. Chaisson a 1st round pick #20 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft exemplified the term Student-Athlete. He was a 3x SEC Academic Honor Roll player as well as a 2x All SEC player and CFB National Semifinals Defensive MVP vs Oklahoma. Cushenberry was the #83 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He too was an SEC Academic Honor Roll guy, a 2019 LSU Football MVP, and a 2019 Joe Moore Award winner. As you can see, being honored to wear #18 means more than just a having a football jersey.

All players that have worn the #18 take an interest in the current #18 wearer. They have certain expectations for those who wear the #18 to live up to. Last year was an unusual year and a year that many may not forget. I know that I won’t forget it. Reflecting on last year being selected #18 and the change of events that occurred made me strong and more dominant to the point where I am eager for revenge. Life brings many trials and tribulations but it’s how you react to them. The saying, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it,” holds great meaning for me. Obstacles come and go in life but the outcome is determined by me! I am in charge of my destiny and nobody can stop me but me. Many may think of #18 as just a number but I look at it as a rich tradition that will continue to be passed down as long as LSU Football exists. My goal is to be one of the greatest players to ever put on purple and gold, not only for my athletic ability but also academics as well. I am proud to wear #18 because of how prestigious the number is and the quality of people who have worn it before me. The coaches, trainers, staff at Cox Communication Center for Student-Athletes have done so much for me in my time here at LSU and have turned me into the person I am today. I am so deeply grateful for all of the hard work that they do to make me and all of my teammates successful both on and off the field. I understand the hardships that go with wearing #18 and have seen those before me set the tone and lead the football team. As we are getting ready for the 2021 football season, it is my goal everyday to make myself and my team better. We want to prove that 2020 is behind us and that we are better than we were. As I am writing this, I am excited about our workouts with coach Moffit and that tomorrow we will be running the stadium. We run these steps for every one of our 102,000 fans that will be watching inside Death Valley and millions more watching at home. Tiger Nation, get ready for another great season.

What did football teach you about yourself of life once you began playing? Even when it gets hard, say we are doing conditioning, you just have to keep going no matter what because it will get better. It has taught me to keep that same mentality in school and life in general even without football. Who or what has been your biggest motivation or role model in the sport? My dad because he played football at South Dakota State University. It was really cool being able to watch his game film and seeing how I should play by being aggressive.

sioux falls, sd ht: 6’4” wt: 285 gpa: 3.5 class: 2022

What is your favorite memory while playing the sport? It was a big moment for me going into my freshman year of high school, I was a lot bigger than all of the other freshman because I was 6’3” 230 lbs. as a freshman and our head coach came over to me after one of our first summer practices and told me I would be playing on varsity. That was probably one of my biggest moments of my high school career. Are you involved with any other sports or activities at school besides football and if so, how do you think those experiences have helped you on the football field? I’m involved in powerlifting and track and field. Powerlifting helps with getting us stronger. Our powerlifting coach is probably one of the best around, he pushes us to the very max. I also throw discus and I think it helps me stay loose during springtime so when football comes back around, we’ll be in top shape. Outside of sports do you have any hobbies or passions that you do in your free time and what about them do you enjoy the most? In my free time I’m mainly hunting or fishing. It’s South Dakota, we don’t have the ocean or all these big cities, so you have to find ways to have fun. With fishing there’s really not much you can compare it to, just being outside and having a good time with your buddies. The same goes with hunting, you can have fun with family, friends, just about anyone you want. Do you have a favorite athlete, college or Nfl, that you look up to? Calvin Johnson used to be a good one for me and Taylor Lewan the left tackle for the Tennessee Titans. I love how aggressive he is, and his style of play is just unmatched. For the 2021 season coming up have you set any personal goals and has your team set any specific goals for the season? Some of my personal goals is to be a better leader, on and off the field. Some of our goals as a team, obviously, is to win a state championship. A couple years ago we had a 3 peat and I believe we are number one in the nation as far as teams with the most state championships. What’s some advice you would give to younger players that want to play high school football one day? There may be a lot of screaming and yelling and fast pace environment, but you’ll get used to it and have a blast. If you have the attitude of wanting to put in work, you’ll be fine. This past season was obviously very different with all of the Covid restrictions. What adjustments did your team have to make and how were you all able to overcome that? We still had our regular season in the fall. We only had one or two games that were cancelled or postponed due to Covid. So, it didn’t really hit us extremely hard. We took all of the precautions and were wearing masks everywhere we went. We wanted that season so we did everything and anything we could keep that season on.

Gridiron football coaches corner who’s who

The Who’s who of high school football coaches is presented by Marcus Randall. The Who’s Who of football coaches shines a spotlight on some of the guys behind the scenes. Many times the coaches are forgotten about, however they have some of the biggest impact on the players lives and futures. Over the years, a coach may help thousands of young men achieve more in life than was expected of them. So we want to show you just six coaches this month that make a difference in kids lives everyday. These coaches have all made a huge impact in the Gridiron Football All-Star Bowl games as well as helped kids further their playing careers. These coaches live by Mathew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Each one of these men is sharing the love and compassion of God with our future leaders. Jason McClendon O/C Tatum High Tatum, Tx

Tramon Douglas O/C Woodlawn High Baton Rouge, La

Jason won the Gridiron Football Coach of the Year in 2018 when he turned around Lakeside High School from a 23 game loosing streak to a 7-4 record in his first year as head coach. Under his direction, he has helped turn around the 5A program to a potential power house program in 2021. He has directly helped develope future star QB in Rickie Collins. Coach Douglas’ offense ranked toward the top in 2020 in Baton Rouge.

Tyler Lewis DB St James High Vacherie, La

Johnathan Collins HC Magnolia School Of Excellence Shreveport, La

Tyler is in his second year at St James. Tyler has become one of the most sought after defensive back coaches in south Louisiana. He has coached the past two years in the the Louisiana Gridiron Football All-Star Bowl Game as well as won the State 1A title in 2017 at West St John High School. His main focus is to help kids acheive their fullest potential.

Johnathan is starting his second season at Magnolia this year. In his first season, he lead the team to the first playoff birth in school history. He is currently developing a “Can Do” mindset with his players and has already put one player into college with a football scholarship.

Matt Dufresne HC DeQuincy High DeQuincy, La

Brad Ducote HC Rosepine High Rosepine, La

Matt is entering his second season as the head coach at DeQuincy High School. Since taking over the head job, he has helped improve the culture with the Tiger football program. He is trying to develope the “Row The Boat” mentality and develope men.

Brad has been educating and motivating young men at Rosepine since the late ‘90s. In fact Brad coached the CEO of Gridiron Football during the ‘99 and ‘00 seasons. Coach Ducote has lead his team to multiple playoff births and this last year he coached 5 All-State players.

hmad Garner is a One-Cut Running Back prospect from Metairie, Louisiana that attends Archbishop Rummel High School. A Class of 2023 High School Sophomore, Ahmad Garner is listed at 5’9, 172 lbs. and has a very encouraging highlight tape. He is a hard-nosed, physical running back that is not afraid of contact. His Hudl film showed his ability to run downhill effectively against a defense, no matter who is in front of him. Garner has a jump cut that is satiable and it demands attention by opposing defenders as well. Ahmad’s capability of finding the hole with ease while having an astute nose for the endzone is promising. Only a sophomore in High School, the running back has two more phenomenal seasons at Archbishop Rummel to encourage spectators to rave about him. He’s already shown that he possesses the spark to compete at the next level. I look forward to seeing the offers roll in expeditiously as his High School career progresses. At what age did you begin playing football and what motivated you to play? I began playing football at five years old. I was motivated by seeing the football games play on TV every weekend as a kid. I thought it would be fun to give it try and I just haven’t stopped playing since.

What has football taught you about life and yourself in general once you started playing? Football has taught me that in life, you only get one chance. Not many players get a second chance at playing football. As far as myself, I learned that football is a more of a mental game. A player’s mentality can separate him from thousands of others that play. Are you a leader on your team? And if so, have you been able to bring any of those leadership skills from the field to your everyday life? Unfortunately, with me being a sophomore and still learning the game, I haven’t been much of a leader as of yet. As I head into my junior year, I will definitely play more of a leadership role on the team especially with so many incoming freshman and younger teammates looking up to me. As a junior, can you tell me some advice that you would give to your underclassmen teammates who would look up to you as a leader on the team? I would tell them to don’t overthink things on the field and always look for ways to improve yourself as a player/ person. Who is a role model in the NFL (at your position) that you feel reflects your game? My role model in the NFL at Running Back would be Alvin Kamara. I say him because of the ways he can break tackles and fight for every yard that he can. Also, I like his versatility and how he is able to catch passes out of the backfield and create big plays for his team. What was your biggest highlight/play so far in your High School career? The biggest highlight so far in my high school career was Week 1 vs Hammond High School. My second carry of the game, I took for 31 yards and a Touchdown. It felt unreal when it happened with me only being a Sophomore and it being so early in the season. What do you look forward to next year when you play in your Junior season? What’s your main goal? I do look forward to my Junior season. My main goal is to win a State Championship with my teammates and finish the season as one of the best Running Backs in the state. What kind of player would they (coaches) be getting out of you if they choose to recruit you to their school? Coaches can expect to get a coachable, dedicated, and hardworking player out of me. by: Cameron Rorie

A Aiden Jones Linebacker

covington catholic high park hills, kentucky ht: 6’3” wt: 225 class of 2023

by: Holden Lester

iden Jones, class of 2023, is a dual position athlete as he plays both Middle Linebacker and Tight End for the Covington Catholic Colonels out of Park Hills, Kentucky. As a 6’3 225lb Linebacker, Aiden is an aggressive tackler who makes sure that the runner is down. He brings his toughness to every play as he never runs away from a blocker, rather, he runs through them and disengages when need be. Aiden is a pure run stuffer too, he has good patience to allow for a hole in the line to open in up and has the burst to attack and fill the gap. When lined up at Tight End, Aiden is a serviceable blocker, and has solid footwork in his routes to get separation, surprising speed to add on to the initial separation, and finishes it off with good, solid hands to secure the catch. Aiden Jones is very versatile athlete with a good mixture of toughness, speed, and hands. With this mixture, Aiden could be a menace all over the field on Saturdays and has another year to make progress and get even better. Tell me about yourself, what are some things you are into? Do you have any hobbies? I play power forward/ small forward for my high school’s basketball team, I play video games like 2K and Madden, I like being outside, I go boating, and I camp sometimes too. Other than that, me and my friends just go to the park and hang out. When did you start playing football? What made you get into it? I started playing in 1st grade, I have been playing ever since and I have loved it. My dad played at UK and played at the CFL. My whole family played so I was born into it. My brother pays right now too, he goes to Cornell. My dad, my brother, and even my little brother play o-line, I make sure to make fun of them because I am the only fast one. What has been the highlight of your football career so far? So far, it would probably be my freshman year winning the state championship. That was definitely the highlight so far. It was kind of like the best feeling in the world, definitely made me feel good. What motivates you to get out and practice every day? What is your why? I would say trying to get to the next level and putting in the work in to get there knowing that it is going to take a lot of work to get where I want to go. Is there anybody you look up to? I look up to Michel Mayer, the Tight End for Notre Dame, he went here so that is a big reason why. I looked up to everything he did, in the weight room and on the field. We were the same position in high school, Tight End and Middle Line Backer, so he taught me some minor stuff about what to watch for on offense and defense. That meant a lot to me.

A Gridiron Football Top 300

ntwain Barham Jr. is a Linebacker prospect in the class of 2022. He plays for the Milan Bulldogs in Milan, Tennessee and comes in at 6’3 and 225lbs. Antwain has a high football IQ at the Mike linebacker position and it shows. He is a very active player on the field in both assets of the game. He is monstrous in the run game, sniffing out running lanes and immediately filling them with an impressive burst to make a play on the ball as well as in the passing game. He has the mental processing needed to anticipate in-breaking routes and jump in front of the receiver to secure the turnover. Antwain is an aggressive tackler with an amazing motor. His film shows many plays exploding only for the opponent to be tackled due to his amazing speed and even better hustle. Antwain Barham Jr. is a leader on the Bulldogs defense as well as off the field. What are some hobbies you have outside of football? I like spending time with my family. I am very family oriented. If I am not with family, with my trainer most of the time and vice versa. When did you start playing football? I started at age of six. I always loved football because it is like a family thing, I fell in love watching my cousins and uncle paly. I was too aggressive in flag football so I had to move to tackle league. I would always try to tackle them instead of pulling their flags. What NFL player would your compare yourself to? Honestly, Telvin Smith, he is more of a long Sam linebacker and I am pretty long. He is very athletic and can play inside and up. He is also 6’3 and I am 6’3.

antwain barham jr milan high school linebacker milan, tennessee ht: 6’3” wt: 225 class of 2022

What are your favorite aspects of your game? I like how aggressive and fast my hands are, my hands are very quick, and I can go from sideline to sideline Did you start out playing any other position? I was a Running back God, I got moved up to varsity my freshman year to play Running back. I was a man-child. How do you prepare for an upcoming game? I get all my drip, get both Airpods charged up just in case, I listen to my music during my pregame meal, I have one in my ear as we go over plays, and after that we eat, chill, and go back outside. Its just a vibe, its Friday. What has been the highlight of your football career? Going to state last year, it was our first time going to state, we have not been to state since 2011 so it was a big thing. The hotel room was good, going out to eat was good, the whole experience was good, it was fun. What are some team and personal goals that you have for next season? I want to be more of a verbal leader instead of just leading by example. I want to work on my lateral movements to be more explosive and shorten my steps when it comes to pass coverage. For my team goal, I want to make it back to state and win. What would you bring to a college team? I bring that spark, explosiveness, and energy. I just bring energy to the game. It does not matter what college I go to, I am just trying to be the best linebacker that goes through that college.

M Marlon gunn jr scotlandville high running back baton rouge, la ht: 6’ wt: 212 class of 2022

arlon Gunn Jr. is a Running back in the class of 2022. He plays for Scotlandville High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and in at 6ft and 212lbs. Marlon is like a bull in the running game -big, strong, and hard to take down. The last thing he is scared of is contact. He will frequently lower his head to run over the defender if need be, and if not, he has a monstrous stiff arm that will do the trick. He is a very shifty runner too which gives him an unfair advantage over the opposing team. Gunn has the good patience to wait for running lanes to open up. Once they do, he uses his cutting ability and his great breakaway speed to secure the house call. Besides from running the ball, he offers great catching ability as well. The running back prospect has shown to have some route running abilities coming out of the back field as well as amazing hands to catch the ball with confidence. Marlon Gunn Jr. would make a great addition to any college roster with his toughness and low center of gravity, as well as his leadership on and off the field. Do you have any hobbies outside of football? I cut hair, just for money in my pocket. It is like a side hustle I do just to keep some change in my pocket. When did you start playing football? I started at 7. I started watching pro football and seeing the money that they would make, and I was like if I can do that, I want to play football. I like the opportunity that came with it. What NFL player would you compare your game to? Le’Veon Bell, people compare me to him. Not just because of my numbers, but because of how I run the ball. What is your favorite thing about your position? You get the ball a lot, you do not have to worry about going for the long pass and dropping it, the quarterback just hands it to you, and you get to do what you do. You do not have to worry about anybody interfering with you or anything What is your favorite aspect of your game? My stiff arm, I like to get people out my way. I am more of a power back What is your favorite play to run? I like stretches, because the cut back lanes get open and there is nothing but open field ahead. What are some team and personal goals you have for next season? Winning the state championship and getting everybody their shine, I want everybody to get time in the spotlight. Personally, I want 20 touchdowns and 1,500 rushing yards. I could not get it last year with the shortened season, so I want to try to get it this year. What are three words that best describe you? Respectful, honest, trustworthy. What would you bring to a college team? I would bring anything they need like energy. All I can do is add on to the talent that they already have.

How did you even get into football? Is there anything specific that motivated you to keep playing? Just playing the game at recess back in elementary school to be honest. I found it so fun and pretty much begged my parents to sign me up for youth football and it pretty much took off from there. Also watching NFL and college made me want to play. Glenn stands in at 6’1 and 175 lbs., this build allows him to be very versatile and excel in every aspect at receiver. While watching his film it is evident that no defenders are able to keep up with him, which makes sense since he ran a 4.57 40-yard dash. His speed isn’t the only thing DBs fear from Glenn, his route running often ends with defenders on the ground or 10 yards behind him. If all of this wasn’t enough to convince you that he is elite, his stats this season might do it as he racked up 1265 yards and 16 touchdowns! As Brody Glenn enters his senior season, we are excited to see him prove himself and maybe even end his high school journey with a ring. When did you start playing football and why? When did you start playing football? What made you get into it? I started playing when I was 6 at the Coquille parks in Madisonville. I used to play soccer out there, but when I saw other kids play football out there I wanted to do it. My dad played football in high school and college too, so I wanted to be like him. He used to play Running Back and Middle Line Backer at UNC under coach Brown. We went back up there a couple years ago and saw the facility, it was pretty cool. How is recruiting going? It is good, it has slowly been picking up. I have mostly ivy school looking at me like Dartmouth, Brown, Yale, Columbia, Harvard. Louisiana Tech, too. I have not taken any visits yet though because of covid. I think I am going to a bunch of different colleges this summer though. I am not really picky either, distance does not matter. I want to see what offers roll through and pick what feels right for me. It seems like you are pretty book smart, how do you go about handling that school – work relationship? For me, I am lucky because I do not have to study too much. I just do homework after practicing usually, it does not take too long. I usually do not have to study either, just for about 10-15 minutes. My parents tell me I will have to do a lot more studying than that in college. What motivates you to get out and practice every day? What is your why? Really, I just love to compete. I do not like to lose. I want to be the best at whatever I try to do. I love football and I just want to play it for as long as I can. I really just play for the enjoyment of the game Is there anybody that you look up to/aspire to be? I like my dad; I look up to him. He played football in college and did pretty well for himself, he has a food family, and he is a good man. I just looked up to him since I was little. What NFL player do you try to model your game around? I like watch players who run really good routes. So, I watch Stephon Diggs, Amari Cooper, Adam Thielen, and Keenan Allen. Stephon Diggs is who I try to model my game after though. Another guy I loved watching was Justin Jefferson at LSU and in the NFL.

What has football taught you about life and yourself in general? It taught me a lot. It taught me to deal with tough things and push through mental and physical pain. It taught me how to deal with tough situations and how to dig yourself out of that hole, to never giving up, to keep on pushing back and fighting, and it just taught me the meaning of hard work. If you really want something you really have to work for it, it is not just going to be handed to you.

ryce Davis is a Running Back prospect from Warner Robins, GA that attends Houston Country High School. Davis is listed at 5’8 180lbs. He is a dual-position athlete with the ability to play the Strong Safety position as well as his natural Running Back Position. He has a speedy side to him as he showed signs of burst on his Hudl Tape. Davis had a promising highlight tape showing that he was a key contributor on his Varsity Special Teams unit. He made several key plays including a forced fumble, a couple fumble recoveries, and several tackles made on opposing returners. With a combination of Davis’ capable speediness as well as his tough-nosed tackling skills, he can definitely be used on some collegiate teams next Fall 2022. There is a firm belief that the best is yet to come for Mr. Davis. He has a background in Track and Field as he is an All-Hurdle Specialist and a 4x1 participant on his High School track team. Bryce Davis has one more season in High School to prove to college coaches why he is built to play on Saturday nights on the college level. Keep an eye out for his name because he has the potential to raise an eyebrow or two. At what age did you begin playing football and what motivated you to play? I’ve been playing football since 2nd grade flag football and then I played tackle football for the first time in 3rd grade. I was always running around as a little kid and I was pretty big for my age, so I tried out football and it became my thing. What has football taught you about life and yourself in general once you started playing? The main thing that football taught me is that nothing comes easy, even if it’s “expected”, you always have to work for it. It inspired toughness and motivation in me to keep going for a goal bigger than myself. Are you a leader on your team? If so, have you been able to bring any of those leadership skills from the field to your everyday life? I’d say I am a leader [because I’m an upcoming senior] as well as what I do on and off the field. I hold myself accordingly. I’ve led plenty of people, on and off the field, but mainly in the classroom. I find myself being more of a leader there more than anything. As a leader on your team, you must be a role model for your fellow underclassmen teammates? Can you tell me some advice that you would give to your underclassmen teammates who look up to you as a leader on the team, being a Senior RB prospect that is heading to play college football? Underclassmen are actually my favorite people to lead because I have already been through what they are about to go through. I just show them the right direction in life (and football) by making sure that they’re okay and that someone’s looking out for them. Both of those things are very important to me. I can tell that most of them look up to me because they see what I’m doing as a prospect, and it makes them want to do more for themselves. It makes them want to get to this point and it’s exciting to see the impact that I have on the young talent. Who is a role model in the NFL (at your position) that you feel reflects your game? That’s a tough question but I’d have to say Adrian Peterson. In his prime, he was a speed back but also a physical back. I think he describes my game a lot but also a bit of Christian McCaffrey. I say that because I’m also very good in passing game. Also, Adrian’s longevity to still be in the league after so long as a Running back is amazing. What was your biggest highlight/play so far in your High School career? Probably my play against Lee County. I actually had two big runs but I didn’t score on the first one so I would definitely say the second one (the Touchdown run). With Highlights comes accolades, what can you tell me about your best season in High School? What led up to it? Honestly it was COVID and the Quarantine. It worked wonders for me. I just came out so much better. I worked zoom meetings, workouts, running, and so many things. It just all led up to it and I will have more in store for next season because I’ll be starting off the season playing Running back compared to getting switched mid-season.

am Jones is a 6’3” 195lbs. defensive end out of Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, SD. As an incoming senior for the 2021 season, Cam has high expectations for himself and a dedicated work ethic. As a defensive end Cam is explosive off the line and makes pass plays miserable for opposing teams, disrupting most of them. His speed and agility make stopping the run and making plays just as easy. With his 3.0 GPA and commitment to constantly improving himself and his team, it comes as no surprise that Cam is also a part of the 2020 South Dakota 11AAA All-Star team. What did football teach you about yourself of life once you began playing? What it taught me about life is that it’s not always going to be easy or fair and it’s mostly taught me a lot about myself. I’ve been able to do a lot of things I didn’t think I’d be able to do. Like when you have to push through the fourth quarter and you’re playing for the people besides you and the fans around you and you’ve just got to dig deep into yourself and realize how bad you want to be successful in your life. Who or what has been your biggest motivation or role model in the sport? Definitely my grandpa. He’s a hard worker and he’s worked all his life. He’s 72 right now and still does side work and manual labor. And he’s been so caring as long as I’ve known him. I love playing for him, he’s always watching me and he’s my biggest supporter every day.

What is your favorite memory while playing the sport? It’s definitely got to be the Harrisburg game my junior year. It was their homecoming, and they were undefeated, and we were undefeated, and we were going against a Minnesota commit quarterback Jacob Knuth and he’s the real deal and that game was kind of my breakout game. I had three and a half sacks, it was Friday night lights, and that was my first experience when I realized “Wow I’m really in it now”. Just being able to get to him three times and win D-lineman of the game and get nominated for player of the week, I couldn’t have asked for anything better than that type of game and atmosphere. Are you involved with any other sports or activities at school besides football and if so, how do you think those experiences have helped you on the football field? I’m involved in baseball and that honestly helps me with mental toughness because in baseball you’re going to fail a lot. The question I always ask myself is can I keep my composure on the mound or if I have a bad game hitting, can I bounce back? It really teaches me a lot about myself and how mentally tough I am. Outside of sports do you have any hobbies or passions that you do in your free time and what about them do you enjoy the most? A hobby of mine every night, after I study and start winding down, is to get online and play some Fortnite with my friends. We still like to mess around and play it. We’re not gamers so we’re not playing it all the time, but whenever we have free time we’ll hop on and say you know what, lets just play for fun. Do you have a favorite athlete, college or Nfl, that you look up to? Oh it’s definitely got to be Lavonte David. He’s definitely one of the best linebackers in football right now, I’d say. He really flies under the radar and doesn’t make a lot of noise outside of the game, but when you watch him play he’s everywhere on the field, covering big tight ends like Travis Kelce and locking him up or he’s in the backfield getting a sack whenever you need him to and I just love watching him play. What current player, college or NFL, do you think reflects your play stile the most? It’s probably Kayvon Thibodeaux from Oregon. He’s just a fast pass rusher off the edge and he’s going to get to the quarterback whenever he can. He’s not the biggest D-lineman on the field but he’s still going to give you everything he has and stop you in the run. He’s going to get to the quarterback almost every pass play and make that disruption.

Favorite moment of your career so far? When I was 13, we won a Super Bowl and I had 2 Touchdowns. In the first half of the game, I was wearing one pair of cleats and the ref called back a touchdown and so I changed cleats at half, and we won. It was also like a revenge game because they beat us the season before. What current or past player do you think you play like the most? I would have to say like DK Metcalf, with my size, Odell with the routes, and Jarvis Laundry, I think we play similar. Do you play any sports outside of football, and what do you think you adds to your game? Basketball, I think it helped with my IQ, in basketball you have to see the court, it also helps with stamina. Going into your Junior season, what are you looking forward to? I’m looking forward to winning state, this year I think we got robbed because of Covid, so next year I think we are winning state. I want 1000 yards 20+ touchdowns and more college offer. Do you have a quote or anything that pushes you daily? “No matter how you feel during the day, the sun will always rise in the morning” What do you think a college would get out of you as a player? They are going to get a good blocker, I’m not selfish, they will always get my 100%. What motivates you to get up and train every day? I think of my mom, I know she gets up and works hard so I do the same thing. What do you think makes you a good teammate? I’m a good blocker, I help my boys out on the field, if they are doing something wrong, I try to pick them up and help them, and If they don’t know a play, I will help them out with that. Who has pushed you most in your football journey? My dad. What do you think sets you apart from other athletes and what is the best part of your game? I think I view the game different; some people think of it as playing, I think of it as a way out. My route running and separation, my hand, I can catch anything my way. What are you thinking pre-snap? I’m thinking about their coverage, looking at their safety, then I’m looking at the corner depending on if they are outside or inside. When I’m at the slot I look at the linebackers, I just look at the defense.

We did not do too much passing, so I was pretty much just a running Quarter Back. It was in my 7th grade year that we started passing more and I became more of a passing Quarter Back. How is recruiting going? So far, recruiting has been decent. I got a couple looks from different schools. With no work ethic, you are not getting anywhere. If you want something, you are going to have to go get it. Football taches a lot of good life lessons. It also taught me how to play together as a team and work good with other people. It taught me that I can accomplish whatever I want to if I work for it. I have always looked up to St. Amant, I was in disbelief that I was the Quarter Back. I worked my butt off in 10th grade and I got to play Quarter Back for them, and it made me want to work and get better. It taught me how good of a competitor I can be.

For the 2021 season coming up have you set any personal goals and has your team set any specific goals for the season? Building a better brotherhood next season is one of our team goals. Looking out for each other more and having more positive vibes are some things were focusing on. We’re also trying to go to the championship. We made it to the second-round last season but were trying to go farther. Some personal goals that I have for myself this season is that I have to reach 1,000 yards, I have to. I’m going to try to catch every ball that’s thrown to be, doesn’t matter if it is misplaced or not, I’m doing everything I can to catch it. What would you bring to a college team? What I would bring to a college team is aggression. I’d also bring a lot of challenges to the upperclassmen there, positive challenges but a challenge that I can set for myself and them at the same time to get everyone better. Whenever it’s my time to get on the field no one would be able to stop me because I would have been playing against the best. What’s some advice you would give to younger players that want to play high school football one day? Some advice I would give to younger players is to have the heart of a lion. If the coaches get on you a lot is because they see potential in you. If you are trying to be a real football player, you need to bring aggression and put in the work. This past season was obviously very different with all of the Covid restrictions. What adjustments did your team have to make and how were you all able to overcome that? Some adjustments we had to make were the loses. We had to win just about every game to make the playoffs because we had less games than some other teams. We could have a better record than another team and still get a lower seed.

oe Strickland is a Defensive End in the Class of 2022 for Brebeuf Jesuit Prep High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Standing in at 6’4” and 250 lbs., Strickland is an absolute nightmare for opposing offensive lines and backfields. Strickland combines his rare build with incredible strength and quickness off the snap to get himself into the backfield nearly as often as the opposing QB. With an incredible work ethic and an insane amount of raw talent, Joe Strickland is a player everyone should know as he enters into his senior year. When did you start playing football and why? I started playing football around 5 years old, it was pretty much something I don’t remember much of, but I know I started as early as I could. I never played flag football and didn’t hear of flag football until I was years into regular football. I played basketball, baseball, and soccer as well, so I thought football was the best due to it being the most physical. Favorite moment of your career so far? Coming into high school, starting all year freshman year would definitely be one of if not the most memorable moment of my football career. What current or past player do you think you play like the most? I have been compared to like a Lawrence Taylor, I would say I like him the most, although I do not partake in some of the external things from football he did, I like him the most.

Also, a reliable player, due to the leadership and how I play under pressure. What motivates you to get up and train every day? Myself, I am trying to get paid for doing this one day and I grind every day to do so. My mom as well, hopefully I can get her retired early. What do you think makes you a good teammate? How did your first offer feel? Is anybody helping you with it? My first offer came from Northwestern in Natchitoches. It started when the defensive coordinator (Mike Lucas) saw a post I made on twitter and we just started talking. After a couple of weeks, the offensive line coach called me saying he had great news. Then Mr. Mike officially gave me the offer. That was the best feeling in the world, it was extremely weird and just awesome. My girlfriend’s dad helps me with recruiting, her dad has some recruiting business and he helps me get in touch with coaches. When did you start playing football? Whenever I was younger, I played in Alexandrea for one year, when I was like 6–8-year-old. We moved away and I stopped because there was no football where we moved to. We moved back to Pineville my 8th grade year and that is when I started back up playing football. I have not been playing too long, but I got the hang of it quickly. At first, when I started back up, I sucked. But as soon as high school hit, it came with great ease. What made you get back into it? My friend Ethan helped me, he played it for a long while. He probably started at 5 or 6 and he is still playing. In junior high he asked me to try out and see what happens, so I was like “sure, football seems fun.” I tried out, I made the team, and I have just been getting better since then. Now Ethan and I are both varsities playing right next to each other, he plays left guard and I am a left tackle. What motivates you to get out and practice every day? What is your why? My family and friends for sure, they give me a lot, they help me with certain stuff, they put me through school, they give me a house to live in. Some people just see them as small things and take them for granted. The best thing you can have is your family and friends, having people that want you to be successful and want you to do great things is awesome to have. I can appreciate that. Is there anybody that you look up to/aspire to be? I do not think so, there are obviously people I appreciate that helps me out, but I do not aspire to be somebody else. I want to be my own person and give credit to people that helped me on the way though. What NFL player do you try to model your game around? Probably … I would say, Taylor Lewan. He wears 77 just like me and plays Left Tackle just like me. I would also say Quinten Nelson too.

What has football taught you about life and yourself in general? It has definitely taught accountability and leadership for sure. It is not like holding others accountable, just holding myself accountable to the position I am supposed to play. Playing Quarter Back helped me transition with the leadership from telling my teammates what to do on offense, to being the Quarter Back of the defense and getting my guys in the right spot. I preach to my teammates “I’m going to get y’all through it,” “I’m going to make sure y’all are good.” I cannot mess up when I talk this and that. It is coming up in the moment when you said you would.

Tell me about yourself, what are some things you are into? I am really big into academics; I take pride in my schoolwork and enjoy school even though I do not like it every now and then. I like lifting weight, being outside, family, and football gets me through too. Without football, I would not be where I am right now. I have a younger sister that just turned 15, we both did track and basketball in junior high but I quit because I could not put my full effort into it since I realized I wanted to go to college and play football. I go to a great football program; many people are competing for a spot. There were people ahead of me as a freshman, so I had to work harder in the offseason and cut off distractions from other sports, and that helped me get to the position I am at right now. When did you start playing football? It was ever since I was young, ever since I was born, my dad played football so I played as soon as I could run. Funny story, my first touchdown was for opposite team. My coach gave me the ball and my adrenaline was pumping, so I ran freaked out and ran backwards as fast as possible that even the referee could not keep up with me. My first day putting on pads, I was the biggest kid on the field. I played at running back one day and gave this kid a stiff arm and ran 50 yards for the touchdown. What motivates you to get out and practice ever day? What is your why? My motivation is getting to take care of family in the long run. Even if it do not get to the NFL, I am smart enough to get an academic scholarship and take care of them. My dad played college ball, I want to try and make it further than he did. I also have some dead family members that helped to take care of me, and I want to make them proud. Is there anybody you look up to/aspire to be? If I had to pick somebody…Ray Lewis, has has been through a lot and is the best linebacker in history, his highlights and motivational speeches make me want to run though a brick wall. I saw his Madden 13 intro when he said nobody thought he could make it cause he was too small and he was not quick enough, but proved everybody wrong and now he is a Hall of Famer. Do you have a favorite college or NFL team? My favorite college team is Michigan and my favorite NFL team is Cincinnati. It is funny because they are almost opposite of each other, but my family is from Michigan so I grew up watching them with my dad. On our way back from Detroit one year, we watched that Michigan, Michigan State game where the punter tried to punt the ball away but fumbled and then Michigan state went on to run it back. Ever since then, I have been intrigued by them. As for the Bengals, I was really young, and I was sitting at my aunt’s house on some holiday. I watched the Bengals play and I liked their helmets. From that day on I have been watching them and following them. What NFL player do you try to model your game around? For modern day players… Anthony Barr, but I am a lot quicker than him. He can play Defensive End if he wanted to, He can fill gaps and rush edges, he is a little slow in general but he can still cover. For a historical player…Brian Dawkins, he would fly around with so much energy, it was ridiculous. It is a good 50/50 between him and Ray Lewis, he was a field general like me, he would command the whole defense you could tell.

What has football taught you about life and yourself in general? Football has been a very big stabilizer in my life, if it was not for football, I would not try to keep my grades up, I am very well rounded. It taught me that nothing is ever given, it is earned. If I am not having a good day at practice, I know that I have to keep my head up and keep fighting because I know if I am not doing good in practice, then somebody else is doing better than me and that is one more day they have over me. I use that in my life, its natural for me to get up at 6am and make my bed. If you cannot even make your bed in the morning than you are having a bad day. If you don’t care about making your bed, then you do not care about the little things. Football has installed discipline and work ethic into me, I definitely use that every day.

ach Hegwood is a Running Back/Defensive Back in the 2022 class and plays for Oak Grove High School in Oak Grove, Louisiana. At 5’10 160lbs, Zach plays both positions with a lot of physicality. As a corner, he excels in man coverage with good, fluid hips to stay in phase while messing with the receivers timing. Doing this, he creates a lot turnover opportunities in which he capitalizes on some on them. Although he plays man coverage predominantly, Zach can be just as a menace in zone coverage. He has shown to have good recognition of route concepts and can easily jump on routes to secure the pick. A recurring theme for the Oak Groves product is his love for the physicality, as he is not only a willing tackler and can lay a lick, but runs with extreme force too. As a runner, Hegwood shows nice burst out of the backfield along with nice body control and a low center of gravity as he is a hard tackle to get. He is also a willing blocker out on the bubble screens as well. Overall, Zach Hegwood is not afraid of contact and could supply a good amount of toughness to any college roster.

rian Jenkins is a 5’8 190lb Running Back in the class of 2023 and plays for the Pearl River Rebels out of Pearl River, Louisiana. Brian exudes strength. As a sophomore in high school, Brian has a 425lb max on squat, a 415 max on deadlift, a 275 bench max, and a 245 clean max. However, his game is more geared towards his shiftiness and one-cut abilities. The Running Back has taken many ankles, as seen in his film, and has shown the ability to bounce off of tackles and find ways out of getting tackled, along with great break away speed to take advantage of open grass and get the touchdown. He does more than run the ball for his team however, as he has good hands to catch the ball out of the backfield and then turn into a YAC specialist, making him just as dangerous weather it is a designed run or a designed pass.

rian Morgan is a Running Back and Outside Line Backer in the Class of 2022 for Houghton Lake High School in Houghton Lake, Michigan. Morgan stands in at 5’10” and 190 lbs., but don’t let his size deceive you as he is a tank at the running back position, requiring at least 2 people to take him down. His physicality and strength pairs perfectly with his outrageous speed, with a 40 time of 4.66 seconds, he seems nearly impossible to tackle. His quickness of the snap is unfair as it seems that he is 10 yards downfield before the defense can even react. On defense Morgan plays outside linebacker and makes his presence felt as he not only blows up run plays, but also plays pass coverage as well as DBs! His ability to read the offense and make a play is incredible, it seems like he is in the offensive huddle! layton Davis is a 5’11 Wide Receiver prospect in the class of 2022 and plays for the Lincoln County Patriots in Stanford, Kentucky. At 182, he has good route running abilities to get open, but Clayton earns his money by overpowering the corner and securing the contested catch. It is evident in his film that if there is a jump ball, he is coming down with it. However, he breaks the stereotype of the contested jump ball wide receiver archetype, as he provides respectable Yards-After-Catch ability and can make the tackler miss in open space with ease. Clayton is not only a great football player on the gridiron, but he is a great student off the field as well as he boasts a 3.7 GPA.

Tell me about yourself, what are some things you are into? I am into sports of course, video games, that is about it to be honest. I occasionally go fishing with friends too. I am into Rocket League; I am on and off with it but I am really enjoying it right now. I also play ARC. I Just recently got a PC and I have just been hooked on the games ever since. When did you start playing football? I started playing around 4th or 5th grade, I went straight to tackle. I initially wanted to play basketball, then I wanted to play football. I asked them about football, and they were alight with it. Some parent will not let you play because of the physicality of the game, so I am thankful that mine did. I got into the game by watching it a lot, I wanted to be like them one day. I know specifically I used to watch Justin Hunter form Tennessee, he was there with Peyton Manning and I think he went to play for the Titans. What motivates you to get out and practice every day? What is your why? I want to get up and be better, faster, and stronger every day. Seeing my results at the end and showing the work pays off is actual a nice thing to see. I was 160 last season and I wanted to get bigger. So I started eating and lifting a lot more and now I am 180 and I got my bench up. Seeing results of hard work paying off is nice. Is there anybody you look up to/aspire to be? Not really, I actually do not look up to anyone. If I had to pick, it would be my dad, he is a good role model. He played college baseball at a small school he went to in Georgia, then he went to the Marines and served for 4 years. Do you have a favorite college or NFL team? My favorite college team is Tennessee, my dad was a big Tennessee fan, so I grew into one too. I do not really have an NFL team. I will occasionally watch but I do not really have a favorite. I used to like the broncos, I hate to say it but Peyton Manning was on the team and my dad like him so I just joined in. What NFl player do you try to model your game around? I like Tyreek Hill, I like how fast and strong he is. He is 5’10 188 and I am pretty close to that. What has football taught you about life and yourself in general? Football has taught me that I have to be tough when things go bad and get back up. It taught me to not give up and push through the hard times. It definitely gets me mentally ready for life, how to handle adversity and how to over come it. It shows that I am kind of a chill person on the field. That relays to my actual life where I like to chill, I just try to lead by example.

f Diamond In The Rough was a phrase in the dictionary, Colton Deshazo picture would be right under it. It should be a crime that this stud athlete does not have offers from across the country. Deshazo is from Biloxi, Mississippi and will be a senior at D’Iberville High School in the fall. The class of 2022 route runner is 6’2, 215 pounds and is continuing to grow. I call him a route runner because this young man is great at both tight end and wide receiver. His 4.5 speed pops on film as he is able to make countless plays downfield and is also a threat in his run after the catch. He also is not afraid to get his hands dirty in the run game by creating holes for ball carriers. After watching him play in our recent 7 on 7 tournament, I had to go speak with him because he was by far the best player on the field in my opinion. His 3.9 gpa is nothing to ignore either, it just goes to show that Deshazo puts full effort in whatever he does. Expect an amazing season from this young man in 2021-2022. Tell us about yourself, who is Colton Deshazo? I am from D’Iberville Mississippi, I am in the class of 2022. I love sports, all kinds of sports but football is my favorite. I love working out and working on my craft. I have two sisters, a mother and a father and we all live in the same house. I go to D’Iberville High School and I play wide receiver and tight end for D’Iberville football. What does the sport of football mean to you, how has it impacted you as a person? I have played since I was 4 years old. It has always been around for me. It has been a sort of get out of jail free card that has always kept me busy and helped me stay out of trouble. I have coaches that have inspired me, and the game has inspired me as well. That way when the game is no longer here for me, I have learned valuable lessons from it that I can use for the rest of my life. Congrats on your Gridiron Football 7on7 championship over the weekend, how do you think 7on7 has impacted your game? ….. Would you recommend it to other young players? 7on7 is a different type of football. It is not your average tackle football; it is really about who can guard who one on one and who can play the best zone defense. It also opens up passing for high schools because most high schools are not the elite passing schools like college and NFL teams are. So it really brings out different aspects of the game especially for high schools like mine who predominantly run the ball. So, it gives a lot of under the radar receivers an opportunity to go out and catch the ball. I would definitely recommend it to other athletes. This is my first year doing it and I have received a lot of attention from it. Before 7 on 7, I received little attention. It has opened my game up more and helped me see different aspects of the game. I have seen and played against much more talent. I have seen different types of coverages that you do not see in a high school football game due to the fact that most high schools run the ball, so it has really opened up my game and I would definitely recommend it to any high school player. After watching your film, you are impressive at both wideout and tight end. Which position do you prefer and why? You know I have always loved receiver at heart. At tight end at the next level I might be a little undersized, most tight ends are 6’4, 6’5, and I am 6’2. However, I may be too big for a receiver by being 6’2 215 in high school. So, I’m really a balance in the middle, I love receiver but at the next level I see myself being a TE/HB, but as long as I can keep my speed up with my weight, I won’t have a problem at either position. I have learned that you have a 3.9 gpa, which is very impressive. How do you manage your schoolwork while also being a star athlete? My family has always preached academics first. With sports it can take one injury and you are done. So, you always have to keep your academics first. Your academics will always push you and carry you way further in life then football can. So, I keep academics first, and football closely behind it. I try to find the right balance between studying and going to the field and getting some work in. It really is just dedication, there is no time for parties, use that time to study and go to the fields and get some work in. What would you like to major in? I’m thinking about majoring in business. That is a very broad major and I can get that degree from any college. With a business degree, I feel like I can do almost any job compared to a particular degree that would narrow my options. So, I want to have a degree where I can pick my job and not have it limited to a particular skill set. What are some hobbies you have outside of football? I love to go fishing and stuff, I love hanging out with family. My dad actually races remote control cars and I have been out with him racing cars which is really fun. I like to get out on the boat and go on vacation with friends and family.

On top of his impressive arm, is his impressive ability to run the ball and extend plays for his receivers. The QB prospect is almost slippery when he is forced outside of the pocket and still has the throw on the run ability to get the ball to his open receiver. Whether running or throwing the ball, Colton can be a menace to deal with and can beat you in either aspect of the offensive game. Colton Shaffer is not only a good Quarterback, but he is also a good student as he has a 3.8 GPA. Tell me about yourself, what are some things you are into? Obviously, football, I live in a small town where there is not a lot to do other than hang around with your friends, so most of my life consist of football, it is my hobby. I have a brother, two sisters, a mom, and a dad. What are you doing for football right now? Our 5th period is football. We are just working out right now. after school, we workout for about an hour and then go outside and just kind of learn our offense since we are trying to change up a lot of stuff. We just try to get our formations down and do agility work. I am also doing a lot of 7v7 in Nashville, my team is Ballhawk MPA. On weekends, we will do some 7v7 stuff around here, so I am definitely doing football related every day.

When did you start playing football? I started playing when I was 5, it was just peewee but we had to Travel since we did not have a team, it was a 30 minute drive though, so it was not too bad. After that, we built our football field and program here in Summertown, TN that next year basically from scratch. We built it from our land and it just took off. What made you get into it? I have always been around football, my dad played in college and we are season ticket holders for Titans games. I have been around the game for as long as I can remember. I always wanted to be a Linebacker, but I never got to be one. I have always just been my thing to be a QB. We needed a Quarterback one day and it was just natural to me, unlike Linebacker. I have always been a lot bigger than everybody. My coach was like “this kid is big, let’s throw him in and see if he has an arm.” What motivates you to get out and practice every day? What is your why? Well…my dad is my motivation. My dad got into a car wreck when I was young that left him paralyzed. He said he was my biggest supporter, and he has wanted it as much as me, so he is definitely my biggest motivation. Is there anybody you look up to/aspire to be? Definitely my dad, just him having the ability to get up is crazy to me. He aspires me to get up every day and just be the best that I can be/do the best I can do . What NFL player do you try to model your game around? I would like to say, Aaron Rogers. He has got a strong arm, great vision, he is not afraid to dump it off or throw a bomb downfield. In my opinion, he is the best Quarterback in the game. What has football taught you about life and yourself in general? Well, you know football is a game of ups and downs, it changes in an instant. It taught me how to deal with adversity and work hard. I believe if you work hard, you can accomplish whatever your goal is. by: Holden Lester

alton Johnson is a Defensive End/Linebacker prospect in the 2022 class and plays for Bourgeois High School in Gray, Louisiana. Standing at 5’11 170lbs, he brings a burst of speed from the edge with a great first step. With this quick first step, Dalton has the speed and some elite hustle ability to make the touchdown saving tackle or sack the Quarterback within the blink of an eye. Johnson Jr. is very productive and active player in the run game. He is very good at engaging with the offensive lineman and has the strength to reposition him to force the runner inside. Which he then disengages from the block and secures the tackle with his amazingly sound tackling abilities, which are almost textbook. On top of this sound tackling, he brings amazing physicality, despite his size, and seems to always make the opposing player feel him by delivering huge hits. Dalton Johnson Jr. is a incredible speed rusher who also brings physicality and strength to the position. He is a sure leader on that Bourgeois defense, but is also a leader off the field as well. Sometimes you have no days off. What would you want every scout to know about you? I would like them to know that I am a very dynamic player, I can play safety, linebacker, blitz, but I might have to red shirt my freshman season so I can put on some weight.

avien LaGarde is a 3-star Cornerback out of Bay St. Louis, MS that plays for St. Stanislaus High School. LaGarde was undoubtedly one of the best interviews that I have ever had the honor of conducting. Listed at 6’0, 180 lbs. Davien is a multi-positional athlete that has a true nose for the endzone. He’s capable of playing Cornerback, Running Back, and Return Specialist. The prospect has multiple kick return touchdowns in his High School career. A cerebral young man who understands the game of football down to the tee, Davien is truly a special athlete. His perfect stature combined with his relentlessness, sure-handed tackling skills, and impeccable coverage ability creates an adept cornerback within your secondary. Let’s not forget his impactful reps at Running Back, LaGarde has excellent Running Back vision and his agility is stupendous. With a noteworthy 3.5 GPA in school, Davien is the epitome of a Student Athlete. In his final season at St. Stanislaus, I anticipate the prospect to have his best season yet. At what age did you begin playing football and what motivated you to play? I began playing football at the age of 6. Initially, I didn’t want to play football but my dad encouraged me to play. There were many times that I wanted to quit playing when I was younger but the death of my dad changed that. The night before he passed away, he told my mom that he wanted her to always keep me in football. After that, I never stopped playing and it motivated me to continue to play. What has football taught you about life and yourself in general once you started playing? When I started playing football it taught me about discipline. It has a lot of discipline in it. It’s amazing that I carried it through life. I play with many different people and a lot of them weren’t disciplined. They would talk back to coaches and stuff. It’s more of a respect thing. Football taught me about discipline and respect, really. The main goal that coach keep telling us is to keep moving and try to do your best. Are you a leader on your team? If so, have you been able to bring any of those leadership skills from the field to your everyday life? Yes sir, I am a leader. In ways my leadership does affect my everyday life. I’m very known by a lot of people and at times I can be a leader but at times I am not. When I step on to the field, I’m a different person. I just want to play and I want to lead others. As an [upcoming] Senior, can you tell me some advice that you would give to your underclassmen who would look up to you as a leader on the team? Don’t let anybody tell you anything. There will be times where people will try to be in your ear and try to down you before they pick you up. They will blame you for things instead of looking at the good things. They will tell you that you’re not good enough. I would say to them: stay in your own world and to know your own potentials and to not listen to what other people say that you can’t. I would tell them to stay up. Who is a role model in the NFL (at your position) that you feel reflects your game? It’s probably Amik Robertson. I say Amik because he’s from where I’m from Thibodaux and he went to La. Tech. He showed people that you can make it from anywhere. People don’t realize that Thibodaux is not that big and you have people that are drug dealers on the corner and they feel that they can’t make it [out of the projects] but Amik showed that you could make it out. So, I like to think that he is a role model for me and that he is doing something good. What was your biggest highlight/play so far in your high school career? My biggest would have to be my 100-yard Kick Return. I was #1 in the State of Mississippi. It was against St. Martins and I think it tied the school’s record for the longest Touchdown. What can you tell me about next season, your Senior season? What’s your main goal? My Senior Season, my main goal is to carry the team to wins because the last few years we’ve been going to the First Round of the Playoffs and losing. I would like to carry them through the playoffs. Then, it shows the Younger class that we can compete and win.
