ouglas Brooks is a Class of 2022 Defensive Tackle/Running Back for Shiner High School in Shiner, Texas. At 6’0” 265 lbs., Brooks has a unique build that allows him to play both positions at a very high level. When he is on the defensive line, the quarterback must get the ball out in a hurry or havoc will be wrecked upon the backfield. As a running back, Douglas can be seen utilizing his defensive tackle size to bulldoze through opposing defenses, as they often need more than two guys to take him down. Doug has sneaky speed that allows him to beat offensive lineman off the ball, but also to punish defenders who take a bad angle, this is shown through his 4.78 40-yard dash. He is very effective in the screen game, as many defenses believe he is just in to block. The dual position athlete is talented on the field and in the classroom as he has a 3.8 GPA. With another year left in his high school career, Douglas Brooks is a player to look out for in his senior campaign. Why did you choose to play football and when did you start? I chose to play football for fun, and I started at age 5. What life skills has football taught you over time? Football has taught me how to be a man, how step up, and how to work in a team setting. Would you consider yourself to be a power, elusive, or a receiving back? I would consider myself to be a power back because of my size and its easier for my game. As a running back do you prefer runs inside or outside? The inside, where all the commotion is at, I like it because I can show my strength, and I’m more of a short yardage runner. What’s your favorite play to run? My favorite play is Halfback wham right behind the guard. What technique do you prefer to play in? I prefer the 3 for the one on one situation but it doesn’t matter to me. What’s your go to move to get past offensive lineman? I would say my go to move is the swim move because I’m quicker than them and it allows me to get past offensive lineman faster. Could you tell me a little about your state championship run? It meant a lot for me and it’s been a while, it was the 1st one for my school since 2004. What current or past player, do you think your game mirrors the most? As a running back I see my game mirroring Derrick Henry’s and for defensive tackle Aaron Donald, this is because he’s undersized but has a lot of tools. Does your jersey number (1) hold any significance to you? Nah, I just picked it up because my brother picked up number, so now we always next to each other. Do you play any sports outside of football? If so, how have they helped you become a better football player? I throw shot and discus, it helped me develop my focus and patience. Outside of sports, do you have any hobbies you like to do? Working out always trying to get bigger. What your favorite pre-game song to listen to? Dreams and Nightmares, Meek Mill In your opinion, what is the best aspect of your game? I would say my quickness for defense and strength for offense. How do you think Covid-19 impacted your junior season? Honestly it made it better, because it improved ability to handle adversity, we just played like we had a regular season. We also got more practice, which allowed us as a team to learn more things. Do you have any goals for your senior season? I want 100 tackles and to be 1st all state. At the end of the day, who is someone you look up to? My father, He’s a strong man, who’s strong minded and willed, he always knows how to get the job done.
