JFAV rally protest against racism By Abner Galino
Hundreds of Filipino Americans, most of them youths, held a rally late last week on the world famous Hollywood Street to denounce an act of racism that happened 70 years ago, and has not been fully rectified since, against the Filipino World War II veterans. Organized by Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV), the annual rally was jovial in some ways but nevertheless orderly and resolute in demanding for the full restoration of compensation for the Filipino veterans. On makeshift stage on top of a truck, Eddy M. Gana, chairperson Kabataanmaka-Bayan or Pro-people youth, led the Filipino American crowd in chanting: Don’t say no to my lolo, give them equity now; Makibakahuwagmatakot Huwagmatakot! Makibaka! Some 80 organizations endorsed the 16th year of JFAV demonstration. “Justice delayed is justice deSee JFAV PROTEST, page 12

Many also view Trump as a loose cannon who easily flies off the handle, and fret that he may make rash, poorly-thought-out decisions based on emotions. Recent days have seen thousands take to the streets in major US cities to protest a president-elect who has grabbed headlines for his outrageous sexist comments and myriad other insults toward women. The question remains whether
MANILA, Nov. 14 (PNA) – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday said US President- elect Donald Trump’s plan to deport some three million illegal immigrants has little effect on Filipinos residing in the US as most of them are legal residents or have citizenship status. “While it is true that President-elect Trump had mentioned his desire to deport some three million illegal immigrants, it should be put into context,” outgoing DFA spokesperson and incoming Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles Jose said in a text message to reporters. Jose further said that Filipinos in the US are paying their taxes religiously and abiding by US laws. “For years, the US Government has had in place a system where US authorities deport illegal immigrants in a timely and orderly fashion. These have occasionally included Filipinos arrested because of immigration irregularities and criminal violations,” Jose
