Simply put, bankruptcy can be defined as the legal process thorough which individuals or businesses in financial trouble are able to work out their debts and pay them out under the protection of the bankruptcy court. Often “liquidations” or “reorganizations” are the words that are used to sum up the process that unfolds when you file for bankruptcy.

The two kinds of bankruptcy that you can file for are Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. There are various factors that would determine whether you should opt for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13.

Through Chapter 7 Bankruptcy you liquidate all unsecured debt, providing any assets you may have are exempt under bankruptcy rules.

Most people never lose anything, because they don’t have any non-exempt assets. In the event debtor is

making too much money, they choose Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, which is the reorganization type of bankruptcy.

The debtor is allowed three to five years over which to pay back a portion of the debts, based on disposable income. Say that you have $100.00 in disposable income. You would have to pay that into a plan for 60 months. After 60 months, the balance of your debts would be discharged in full, even if they are far from being paid off.

One should keep in mind that there are intricate details to this legal process that need to be taken into consideration before decisions are made to file for bankruptcy. Who qualifies? Which kind would apply to you? Will you be able to keep all of your property? There are many such questions that arise in such a situation. In this situation, you need to consult with an experienced bankruptcy law firm that can guide you through these complicated decisions and procedures.

Filing for bankruptcy may not be the solution to all your financial problems though. In fact, bankruptcy does not cover all debts. For example, debts related to child and spouse support, or taxes are not covered in bankruptcy.

Before filing for bankruptcy it is important to know that your co-signer might be held liable for the co-signed debt. However, a Chapter 13 bankruptcy may protect your co-signer, since it offers a partial repayment plan.

In this case, the creditors have the right to demand that your co-signer pay off the outstanding payments.

Under chapter 13 bankruptcy, as long as the bankruptcy plan is active the co-signers will receive a stay for the duration of the debtors payment plan. At the end of the plan, a co-signer could once again liable to pay any outstanding payments, even though the debt is discharged in favor of the bankruptcy debtor.

PHL committed to integrity of banking system: Palace

MANILA, April 19 (PNA) – The Philippine government is committed to ensure the integrity of the country’s banking system as well as domestic financial transactions, a Palace official said Tuesday.

“The government supports all legal processes that are observed to ensure the integrity of all banking and financial transactions in the Philippines,” Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.

On Monday, Bangladesh’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said about 20 foreign nationals from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, China and Japan were allegedly involved in theft of about USD 101 million from the Bangladesh Bank last February.

The CID, however, declined to

give specifics on these foreign nationals but added that there were also Bangladesh nationals who would be investigated on for their involvement in the heist.

Of the total funds stolen from the dollar account of the Bangladesh’s central bank with the Federal Reserve of New York, about USD 81 million ended in the Philippines.

The funds were transferred to four different accounts opened in the Jupiter-Makati branch of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) in May 2015, which were idle until February this year.

These funds were consolidated to an account under the name of Chinese-Filipino businessman William Go, who repeatedly claimed that the account was not his and was opened without his knowledge.

The funds were then transferred

to remittance company, Philrem Services Corp., for conversion before it was delivered in tranches to casino junket operator Kam Sin Wong, alias Kim Wong, businessman Weikang Xu, and casinos Eastern Hawaii Leisure Company, and Bloombery Hotels Inc. Meanwhile, Wong has again returned million pesos worth of money that was part of the funds stolen from the BB. Philippines’ Anti-Money Laundering Council (ALMC) Executive Director Julia Bacay-Abad, during a Senate hearing on the case on Tuesday, said the lawyer of Wong returned Php 200 million, which AMLC accepted for safekeeping.

This is the third time Wong’s camp turned over funds to AMLC after the USD 4.6 million last March 31 and the Php 38.28 million last April 4. (PNA)

Guingona bares ‘forged’ Philrem receipts, messenger’s ‘mansion’ MANILA, Apr 19 (Mabuhay) – Senator Teofisto Guingona III revealed Tuesday that Philrem Services Corp. presented seemingly “fabricated” receipts for the cash deliveries involving $81-million stolen from the Bangladesh Bank and laundered in Philippine banks and casinos. Guingona also questioned the large house of a Philrem messenger tagged in the scandal.

The senator said the Philrem acknowledgement receipts were supposedly signed by Weikang Xu, a junket casino junket agent who allegedly received part of the stolen money. Xu’s supposed signatures on the receipts, however, are apparently not the same as the signatures on his passport and application for Philip-

pine visa.

“Klaro na iba iyung pirma e. Hindi parehong tao ang nag-pirma niyan.

Kung titingnan mo iyung acknowledgement receipts na ini-submit ng Philrem, several acknowledgement receipts, all the same handstrokes, all the same handwriting,” said Guingona, chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

He added: “[The] feeling that you get is it was all manufactured in one day, just for the sake of compliance with the committee.”

Guingona said that blown-up images of these receipts will be presented Tuesday in the continuation of Senate hearing on the scandal.

of Xu, have contradicted each other regarding the cash deliveries and the whereabouts of some $17 million.

Phirem president Salud Bautista and her husband, Philrem treasurer Michael “Concon” Bautista, have insisted that they do not have the “missing” $17 million, as claimed by Wong. The couple said they delivered all $30 million in cash—in the amounts of P600 million and $18 million—to Xu, a business associate of Wong. Mark Palmares, a messenger of the remittance company, was invited to the investigation to shed light on the conflicting statements between the Bautista couple and Wong. Palmares has failed twice to attend Senate hearings because he was reportedly sick.

No sign $81-M was part of loot, money laundering, Deguito says MANILA, Apr 21 (Mabuhay) – There were no signs that the $81-million deposited into the Jupiter branch of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) was part of a money laundering scheme, sacked branch manager Maia Santos-Deguito said on Thursday.

“Big volume ang branch ko. ‘Yung mga gano’ng transactions, I’m not saying it’s common but I’m saying I’m used to it,” Deguito told reporters in Quezon City.

To recall, $81 million dollars of dirty money found its way to several accounts in her branch, under the names Michael F. Cruz, Jessie C. Lagrosas, Alfred S. Vergara, and Enrico T. Vasquez before being consolidated into an account named under William Go. The money was then transferred into Solaire Resort and Casino, Midas Hotel and Casino, and casino junket agent Kam Sin “Kim” Wong.

The money was later found to have been stolen from the account of the Bangladesh Bank with the US Federal Reserve and is now the subject of a Senate probe.

Deguito also claimed that under the bank, she had to meet a billion-peso deposit quota per month.

“Dapat in a month hindi ako bumababa ng billion. One, two-billion pesos so I could meet (the quota),” she said.

“Billion ho ‘yung quota ko... In a year ‘yun and we are speaking of an average daily balance. Hindi ‘yung kung naka-billion ka ngayong araw, tapos ka na,” she added.(MNS)

Poe still confident even as Duterte widens lead in survey MANILA, Apr 19 (Mabuhay) – Presidential aspirant Grace Poe remained confident that on Election Day, May 9, voters will choose the right leader for the country.

“Ginagalang natin ang mga survey at gagamitin itong gabay sa patuloy na paglilibot sa buong bansa (We respect the survey results and will use them as we continue to go around the whole country),” Poe said in a statement on Tuesday, reacting to the latest Pulse Asia survey commissioned by ABS-CBN. She said her attention is focused on programs that would end poverty in the country and improve the lives of Filipino people.

“Nakatuon ang ating atensyon sa mga programa na susugpo sa kahirapan at magpapabuti sa kalagayan ng ating mga kababayan (We are focused on programs that will eradicate

poverty and improve the lives of our countrymen),” said Poe. “Naniniwala ako na sa araw ng halalan, pipili ang mga botante ng isang lider na makatao at may galing, para sa kabutihan ng buong bansa (I am confided that on Election Day, the people will choose a leader who is humane and competent for the good of our country),” she added.

The survey conducted from April 5 to 10 among 4,000 respondents showed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as the voters’ top choice for president.

Duterte widened his lead from his rivals with 32 percent. He was followed by Poe with 25 percent, Vice President Jejomar Binay with 20 percent, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas with 18 percent and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago with one percent. (MNS)

MANILA, April 20 (PNA) – Presidential aspirants Senators Grace Poe and Miriam Defensor-Santiago topped the survey of a faith-based radio in the Philippines.

Based on the Veritas Truth Survey on Servant Leadership qualities of the 2016 presidential candidates for the forthcoming national polls during the first quarter of 2016, Poe has been viewed by most Filipinos to have the qualities of a servant leader after being at the top spot in 9 out of 10 qualities of a servant leader and with an over-all percentage of 59 percent.

She was followed by Santiago of the People’s Reform Party who has been consistently ranked 2nd in half of the given traits and had an over-all percentage of 51 percent.

The nationwide survey on voters’ perception of the servant qualities of the candidates for the highest post of the land held by the Church-run radio station from February to March among 1,200 respondents.

The people were asked to rank the five presidential candidates based on the ten qualities of a servant leader (listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of the people, and building community).

Fr. Anton Pascual, Radio Veritas President said the survey was conducted to know if candidates for the coming election possess qualities of a servant leader based on the points of view of the voting public and to assess how such qualities would affect voters’ decisions.

Tied on third spot were the standard bearer of PDP-Laban Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Liberal Party (LP) bet, former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Manuel Roxas II with 44 percent.

Vice President Jejomar Binay of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) ranked last in half of the given traits and has obtained an over-all percentage of 41 percent of the respondents.

On the first quality of a servant leader, which is listening, 3 out of 4 (76.5%) the top choice was Poe, followed by Roxas with 54.3 percent.

Santiago came in third obtaining 53.9 percent followed by Binay with 50.5 percent and Duterte at 44. 65%.

Most of the respondents (70.8%) said that Poe was the most empathetic among those seeking the highest position in the country.

The vice president placed second with 52.5 percent followed by the Davao City mayor (46.5 percent).

The administration standard-bearer received 45 percent while the PRP presidential bet got 40.9%.

On the third quality of a servant leader, healing, half of the respondents (51.1%) favored Poe followed

by Santiago with 36% of the respondents.

Roxas came in third place with 30.3 percent, while Duterte and Binay obtained 29.2 percent and 24.5 percent, respectively.

Three out of four respondents (75.1%) said that Santiago has the servant leadership quality of awareness followed by the Vice President with 65 percent.

Duterte admin to speed up Mindanao development MANILA, April 20 (PNA) – If successful in the May 9 elections, the administration of PDP-LABAN standard bearer Rodrigo Duterte will give priority to accelerating economic growth and social development in Mindanao.

This was the assurance given by PDP-LABAN president Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III Tuesday.

“I have just come from Zamboanga and I am dismayed at the breakdown in the delivery of water and power utilities. The people are experiencing water rationing, they also have to endure rotating power outages,” he said.

Pimentel also lamented that the Zamboanga City airport has not been completely fenced off, hence some people can stray into the runway, posing danger to landing and taxiing aircraft

“Civil aviation authorities should address the security issue at the Zamboanga City airport to prevent any untoward incidents,” he added.

Pimentel said Duterte will see to it that Mindanao gets a fair share of the national income so that it can devote more resources to economic development. He also pointed out that in the PHP3-trillion 2016 national budget, Mindanao gets only 14 percent, compared to 33 percent for Metro Manila and 9 percent for the Visayas.

Pimentel said this reflects the lopsided distribution of national resources that partly explains the persistence of poverty among Mindanaoans.

A Duterte administration will strive to achieve an inclusive economy through regional development, he added.

Poe camp bares new ‘dirty tactics’ vs bet MANILA, Apr 20 (Mabuhay) – Presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe’s camp called on the public on Wednesday to be vigilant amid reports that her campaign team is offering voters monetary incentives supposedly “to lure them to attend” her sorties.

Poe’s spokesman, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian, vehemently denied the veracity of such reports.

Gatchalian said Poe, an independent presidential bet, was “disgusted by the overt left-handed tactics being employed by her critics to confuse the electorate.”

“Recently, it has been reported that certain individuals are misrepresenting themselves as part of the campaign team and offering voters monetary incentives to lure them

to attend events,’ Gatchalian said in a statement.

“There is absolutely no truth that the campaign is offering money in support of any of our events. Individuals peddling such are not sanctioned by the campaign,” he added.

Gatchalian then called on the public “to remain vigilant” and to report to their campaign offices such activities.

“Our campaign abides by all the rules set by Comelec (Commission on Elections),” the spokesman maintained. (MNS)

Don’t listen to my opponents’ lies, Roxas tells ‘Yolanda’ victims

PALO, Leyte, Apr 20 (Mabuhay) – Administration standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II on Wednesday appealed to his supporters here to brush off the supposed lies peddled by his opponents in the presidential race about his response to Typhoon Yolanda, which killed at least 6,000 in 2013.

“Bago dumating ang unos, habang nandito at hanggang matapos ang unos, hindi ko kayo pinabayaan...Huwag po natin paniwalaan ang mga paninira na laganap ngayon sa dahil sa halalan,” Roxas said.

“May kasabihan sa politika na kung hindi mo maangat ang sarili mo, aba’y pababain na lang ang mga katunggali mo at yan ang nararanasan natin ngayon,” he added.

Roxas said he can look the victims of Typhoon Yolanda in the eye and tell them that he did everything he could when Yolanda, considered the strongest typhoon in 2013, hit the country.

The supposed slow response of the Aquino government to Yolanda is often blamed on Roxas, who was then Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Roxas also recently drew flak for being potrayed as a hero during the Yolanda tragedy in the comic book distributed by his supporters as part of the election campaign.

In his sortie here, Roxas said the government has spent P89 billion for Yolanda rehabilitation.

“Lahat ng maaaring kinilos ay ginawa. Walang pagpapabaya,” he said.

“Kayo mismo ang patunay. Hindi man perpekto, hindi naman paradiso pero malayo na ang narating natin,” Roxas said.

Leyte Governor Dominic Petilla said Roxas did not leave their province until it recovered from the calamity.

Client’s ‘friend’ uses her identity to borrow $80k credit cards Two clients with issues relating to known and unknown persons who used their names and social security information to borrow credit card in their names. The first client is 51 years old and married. She met this person who became her “friend�.

Let’s just call the “friend� Ms. Crook.

Client is a relatively new immigrant to America having arrived here 8 years ago. Ms. Crook is introduced to her by a trusted person who says that Ms. Crook wants to buy a piece of jewelry from JC Penney but can’t get credit. Mrs. Crook convinces client to go with her to JC Penny to open an account in client’s name. Since client speaks no English, Ms. Crook serves as the interpreter giving the personal information of client to credit person on the phone that is checking out the creditworthiness of client. So as Ms. Crook translates all of the personal information, she is able to get client’s social security number, home address, and all the other good stuff about client.

After the account is opened, Ms. Crook points to a pair of earing costing $2K that she wants to buy to be charged to client’s account. Client doesn’t speak English, so Ms. Crook is the one talking to the JC penny jewelry sales rep. The rep rings up the purchase and Client signs for the purchase on her newly opened account. The package is given to Ms. Crook and they walk out of the store together.

After a month, client receives a statement from JC Penny showing that she owes about $12K for the purchase of 4 separate pieces of jewelry. She tells me that she will only pay for the piece of jewelry that she agreed to buy for Ms. Crook. That

piece of jewelry is only $2K. She won’t pay for the other $6K of jewelry. I told her that’s not possible, because she signed the purchase at the store.

As long as she signed for it, she’s liable on the purchase. She can sue Ms. Crook for $8K if she wants to, because Ms. Crook defrauded her.

Clearly Ms. Crook took advantage of her inability to speak English and trust as her “friend� to buy $12K of jewelry but made it appear to her that she was only helping her buy $2K of jewelry. Sorry to say, client was a sucker for a con game.

3 months after, client received statements from 10 credit cards that she never applied for, with total purchases of $70K! Looks like Ms. Crook went on a shopping spree, using client’s social security, name and good credit to open $70K of new credit card debt! She gets more than 30 calls a day from creditors that she has never contacted before, all collecting past due accounts from her.

It certainly looks like a massive fraud perpetrated by Ms. Crook on client.

I tell client that I can contact each credit card company to inform them that this is a case of identity fraud, and she would be required to report this matter to the police. But for the JC Penny account for $12K, she’s on the hook for that one. I also told her to sue Ms. Crook.

However, client tells me that Ms. Crook has left the country and is

nowhere to be found. I told client that, she can also get a fresh start by discharging the $82K with a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Client agrees that this is the most effective and simplest way to solve the chaos caused by Ms. Crook. I warned client never to give her social security number and personal information to anyone, or the same thing is going to happen again.

The second client is 85 years old.

She’s been here for a long time but can’t speak English. She owns a house in Los Angeles. She was in the process of transferring ownership of the house to her children when she found out that there was a judgment lien for $16K on her fully paid residence.

Apparently, it was made to appear that she was served with summons and complaint to collect the $16K owed to Discover card, in her name 3 years ago. A judgment lien subsequently ensued that attached to her residence. Client has never applied for any credit card in her whole life.

Now she wants to get rid of the lien.

Is it possible to do so? Sure it is. Since the judgment arose from an identity theft claim, she will win this lawsuit on the merits after the judgment is vacated. She would have to vacate the judgment on the ground that she was never served with summons and complaint. The proof of service made it appear that she was served on a certain date at a specific place.

The truth is on that date, client was in the hospital and she had the medical records to prove it. Since she was never served with the summons and complaint, she can file a motion to set aside or vacate the judgment because the court never acquired personal jurisdiction over client. There

will be a hearing set for this motion.

When the court grants the motion to vacate or set aside judgment, the lien will also be ordered removed.

Unprecedented campaign promoting benefits of U.S. citizenship targets Asian immigrants, nation’s fastest growing immigrant population LOS ANGELES – Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles (Advancing Justice-LA), in close partnership with community-based organizations and local government, announced an unprecedented campaign to encourage and increase the number of Asian American immigrants applying for U.S. citizenship.

US Embassy Manila donates barracks at Camp Kasim, Jolo, Sulu to PNP MANILA, April 19 (PNA) – U.S. Embassy Manila donated a newly-refurbished building at the Sulu Training Center, Camp Kasim, Jolo, Sulu to the Philippine National Police(PNP).

The construction of the barracks began in early 2015 by the U.S. Pacific Command’s Joint Interagency Task Force West, and was completed on April 4, 2016 at a cost of Php 16.9 million(USD 375,000).

The building will serve as barracks for PNP officers who are re-

ceiving U.S.-sponsored training at Camp Kasim and in Jolo City. PNP personnel from all over the island of Jolo will be able to utilize the barracks during training sessions.

The ground floor of the new barracks consists of a conference room, International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance training office, and two private offices, while the top floor consists of both male and female barracks areas. The barracks can support 36students.

Filipino-American parishioners honor Fr. Jude Serfino

FULLERTON – Filipino-American parishioners at St. Pius V Church in Buena Park on Saturday, April 16, 2016 honored their new parish priest Fr. Jude Serfino with a party celebrating his 48th birthday.

The celebration featured the St. Pius V Church Fil-Am Choir, who, under the directorship of Musical and Choir Director Zenaida de Ocampo, performed melodic and romantic Kundiman songs. The All-Male Group, meanwhile, serenaded everyone with their rendition of a medley of classic songs by The Cascades.

Father Jude, who himself loves to sing, gave his impressive rendition of “Climb Every Mountain”, from the classic movie “The Sound of Music”.

Entertainment was also provided by a group of dancers who took to the dance floor to do a Zumba number with Father Jude who gamely joined them.

Food, music, dancing and camaraderie characterized the party attended by at least 300 the parishioners, their families and friends.

Also present were Father Paul Win, Father Mario Juarez, and Father Maximo Rosario.

Father Jude is the first Filipino assigned as the parish priest of St. Pius V Church. His assumption to the parish office was greatly welcomed by the Filipino-American members of the parish.

A native of Bacolod City, Father Jude brings to his flock a varied background of life experiences. He was schooled at Centros of Lima, which was run by Dominican sisters, St. Joseph High School and La Salle College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree major in Accounting.

An evening of community rapport with outgoing Ambassador Cuisia The Philippine Consulate General office in LA recently hosted Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia’s announcement on the end of his official Tour of Duty effective June 30, 2016, which also coincides with Consul General Leo Herrera-Lim’s last day as head of the consular office, as well as DFA head Robert Del Rosario.

The evening started with ConGen Herrera-Lim’s usual animated welcome remarks to all of us media and community leaders who were in attendance.

As Consul General working under the Ambassador’s leadership, ConGen Herrera-Lim reminded all of us that the Ambassador has served in his capacity for the past successful five years.

In a casual sit-down “town hall” meeting, the gracious Ambassador pointed out that we now have a “people-to-people” relationship between the Philippines and the US. He said that we have all witnessed the two high-level interaction between the US and the Philippines through the recent Philippine visits of President Obama, likewise complemented by President Aquino’s four visits to the US, including the recent ASEAN Summit in Palm Springs, where the10 ASEAN countries jointly released a couple of statements on the outcome of their meetings.

Cuisia further said that the joint Summit came out with the statement that first, “ there should be respect for a diplomatic and legal process in the maritime dispute with China and second, there is a need for more collaborations in investments and trade between the US and all of the ASEAN countries.”

Ambassador Cuisia also stressed the important role of the consular offices in LA, serving the largest population of Filipinos in the US, as they handle a large volume of consular outreach programs encompassing Southern California,

Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. He thanked the “pro-active” work of ConGen Herrera Lim, along with his “equally energetic spouse” Fides and his “excellent” staff, helping our kababayans in their time of need, doing outreach programs on weekends and making themselves available 24/7. With such an accolade by the kind Ambassador, ConGen Lim animatedly remarked that its for that very reason why the DFA was dubbed as the department that “never sleeps.”

Due to the upcoming elections, the Ambassador mentioned that they initially targeted 6,000 registrants in Washington, D.C. but was surprised when they have registered 14,000, while Southern California on the other hand received 54,000 registrants. So, they urge all those who have registered to CAST their ballots at the PhilConGen’s office in LA until MAY 9th or mail their ballots by MAY 6th because May 9th falls on a Monday.

Though he said that he is “bowing out of public service,” Ambassador Cuisia said that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is already “planning ahead of 2016, to ensure that the DFA serves all their Filipino constituents in 206 countries, of which according to the 2010 Census there are 2 1/2 million Filipinos in the US, making us the 2nd largest Asian immigrants in the US, with the highest educational level in the workforce, as well as the lowest number of poverty rate in the Asian community. “ Further, Ambassador Cuisia said

that in terms of Security, on his recent visit to the Philippines, he met with US Defense Secretary Ash Carter, along with President Aquino, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and former Energy Secretary Rene Almendras. In their meeting, Cuisia said that Secretary Ash Carter informed them that the “ US defense forces will leave some of their military aircraft, along with around 200,00 personnel to help train, command and patrol the 4 reefs that are part of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) being disputed by China.” As we all are aware of, he said, “since 2012, China has already built an artificial island in the Scarborough Shoal, which actually is only 125 miles from Manila.”

As for the Philipine Economy, Ambassador Cuisia said that “it has grown exponentially, first of all through overseas remittances (most of which come from the US), amounting to US 25 billion and secondly, through Business Product Outsourcing (BPO), which amounted to US18 billion last year and is projected to exceed the growth of remittances by 2020.”

Finally, he said that in terms of Philippne Tourism, “our country had 5

million visitors last year and they project to have around 6 million visitors this year, the largest coming from the US, followed by Koreans. “ That, he said is actually the reason why our slogan is “It’s more fun in the Philippines.”

Before he closed, Ambassador Cuisia was proud in honoring his pilot program call PhilPro which encourages young Filipino Americans to “know about their motherland, while at the same time learning to engage in the community and the consular outreach programs they have. Currently, they already have 40 members and among those were three of them who were present during the the meeting.”

Another successful program he said that he was proud of, was the US Philipine Society, which they formed four years ago, in 2012 in Washington, D.C., whose mission is to elevate the image of the Philippines in the US. How environmental-conscious are Americans and Filipinos?

Earth Day falls on the 22nd day of April this year. While inroads had been achieved in hammering the importance of being conscious about the environment and its preservation for the present and future generation, the â&#x20AC;&#x153;battleâ&#x20AC;? rages on for the long haul.

While the impacts of mankindâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s irresponsibility has reared its ugly head in terms of catastrophic consequences in many areas of the world, the urgent message still needs to be read as it should be in terms of urgency.

Only so much has been done since the 70â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s with advent of the green movement with Rachel Carsonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s book â&#x20AC;&#x153;Silent Springâ&#x20AC;? and the onset of the legislative fervor on the matter that took off from the intellectual thought of the 1840â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s.

The â&#x20AC;&#x153;environmental movementâ&#x20AC;? has been a significant thread in the fabric of American philosophical thought developed by Trascendentalist Harry David Thorean that expanded during the era of American pragmatism in the latter part of the 19th century.

Environmentalism is rooted deeply in the American psyche and is quintessentially American.

Essentially, environmentalism in America is defined as a movement of â&#x20AC;&#x153;sustainable management of resources and stewardship of the environment through changes in public policy and individual behavior and recognizes humanity as a participant

in ecosystems, thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s centered on ecology, health, and human rights.â&#x20AC;?

Many have joined the bandwagon and gone â&#x20AC;&#x153;greenâ&#x20AC;? and pitched in fervently in the concerted effort and are now participants vigorously in pursuing knowledge and practices that can lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestylesâ&#x20AC;?. The current and future generations now face the bright prospect of a protected environment and sustained natural resource.

Whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s the score now after year of waging the environmental battle on many fronts?

A survey of more than 2,000 Americans, part of a bigger study, on being green and how to reduce their carbon blue print is a study worth looking into and revealed a lot about the American attitude on environmental preservation as a consequence of going green. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Going greenâ&#x20AC;? means to pursue knowledge and practices that can lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles, which can help

protect the environment and sustain its natural resources for current and future generations.

Contrary to the general perception on the eco-friendliness of the Americans, the survey revealed that they are actually not as engaged on the matter as they are thought to be. Being called environmentally-conscious, as the Americans think themselves to be, walking the talk does not settle with only one in four of those surveyed doing not enough for the environment.

The survey is an indictment of Americans â&#x20AC;&#x153;ignoring the environmental impact of their day-to-day actionsâ&#x20AC;?.

Based on the survey findings, while environmentalists want to do what is best for the environment, there are limitations dictated by convenience and costs.

Changing mindset on environmental consciousness evidenced by living styles, the study notes, â&#x20AC;&#x153;is hard and changing behavior is even harderâ&#x20AC;?.

The strong message remains that the answer to global environmental problems will â&#x20AC;&#x153;come from collective changes in personal changes, behavior and improved efficiencies of modern conveniencesâ&#x20AC;?.

Five benefits of establishing a revocable living trust There is never the perfect time to think about who you would like to inherit from your estate in case you pass away or at least who among your closest friends (BFFs) and family members are even deserving of inheriting from your estate. In doing so, you should also think about which vehicle you plan to use in implementing your estate plan.

One of the best vehicle in implementing your estate plan is a revocable living trust. Five major benefits of establishing a revocable living trust are: 1. Your estate can avoid the time, cost, and hassle of going through the probate court process.

If you pass away without a will

(intestate) in California, one of your close family would have to file a petition in probate court to probate your estate. Your estate will be divided and distributed according to the California probate code rules of intestate succession.

Even if you have a will when you pass away, your family would still need to file a petition in probate court if your estate is worth over $150,000

and go through the probate process.

This can become a circus if certain beneficiaries contest the validity of the Will or the distribution of the estate.

Your estate will pay for attorneyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s fees, probate referee fees, appraisers and other experts, CPA fees, etc. If people contest the case, your estate would end up paying legal fees to defend the estate in litigation. The entire process can take anywhere from 9 months to years depending on the contentiousness of the probate case.

With a revocable living trust, your trustee or successor trustee if you were the initial trustee, would administer the trust and distribute the estate according to the trust document without having to open a probate court case.

If the trust is funded with all your assets, it is possible to administer and distribute the trust assets without any Court involvement at all. This process is a lot faster than going through probate.

2. Your estate is not public record When you file a probate case, the public has access to your probate case file. The public will know the assets of the estate including the values of those assets. If the Will is admitted into probate, the terms of the Will is open to public scrutiny.

I would like to share what I learned thru the many years in Real Estate on how to save money here and there for our retirement and our children. With the way things are going here, homes for our children and grandchildren will not be affordable. Student loans are going thru the roof with higher than 6-7% in rates. Rents for even apartments are unbelievable, food and grocery cost are definitely rising and with oil prices down now, its only going to go up and we will all pay the price. So, this segment I thought of researching ways for us to save money in real estate transaction for our future needs. When buying, selling or refinancing a home, we go thru thousands of dollars in tax payments, fees, commissions etc. Hope this helps you make smarter decisions: IRC §121: Capital gains tax is generally payable by a seller incident to the sale of a home. The top federal capital gains tax rate is 23.8%. However, homeowners who time their closing properly can avoid paying capital gains tax on the first 500,000 of gain realized at the sale from their original purchase price. Pursuant to the Internal Revenue Code’s section 121, a married couple qualifies for this exemption if at least one of the two married spouses owned the home and they both used such home as their “principal residence for periods aggregating 2 years or more” over the 5 years preceding the sale date. If a seller cannot document 2 years of use, they must delay the closing according-

ly. Further, a seller can only use this exemption one time every two years.

Step-Up-In-Basis: If real estate is sold immediately after its owner’s death, no capital gains tax is due by way of a concept called a step-up-inbasis. On the death of an owner of real estate, their beneficiaries are distributed such property at the date of death valuation for that real estate pursuant to the Internal Revenue Code’s section 1014. Consequently, if the beneficiary immediately sells the property no capital gain is realized and no capital gains tax is due because the real estate’s purchase price and its sales price will be deemed the same for tax purposes.

Therefore, elderly and sickly owners of real estate, who purchased such real estate at very low comparative values to its present value, are ill advised to sell such property unless they are in real need of immediate money.

Sometimes it is even prudent for the intended on-death beneficiaries to gift monies to the owner when they are in need of cash flow in order to avoid the necessity of such a sale.

Mortgage Interest and Real Estate Tax Deductions: It’s true that if you make less money you pay less income tax. Yet, making less money is poor tax planning because the result is still that you have less money in your pocket and while you got the taxman you also hurt yourself. Instead, proper planning is to make a lot of money while limiting the amount of money

that is taxable. Deductions from taxable gross income create this legal fiction (i.e., you make more real money than your taxable dollars). One of the best means to create this legal fiction is through deductions from income for the mortgage interest that you pay.

Applicable to both first and second homes, deductions are itemized on Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, Schedule A. According to the IRS, “[u]sually, you can deduct the entire part of your payment that is for mortgage interest”, except if your “total mortgage balance is more than1 million” or your mortgage wasn’t taken “to buy, build, or improve your home.” Like mortgage interest tax deductions, real estate taxes can also be deducted from your gross income for income tax purposes.

Proposition 60 Is Here to Help!

Proposition 60 allows you to transfer your current property’s assessed value into a new replacement property. This tax benefit results in thousands of dollars of savings; but not everyone will qualify. Here are the requirements: You or your spouse must be at least 55 years of age when the original property was sold.

The original property and new property must be within the same county.

Women deserve respect and protection PHL election campaign homestretch

MANILA, April 19 (PNA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Tuesday that women deserve respect and protection and being rape victim should never be a subject of joke for them.

In a statement, DSWD Secretary Corazon J. Soliman stressed that rape as a violation of human rights is unacceptable.

“No one, regardless of age, sex, physical appearance, social status, race, sexual orientation or even profession deserves to be raped,” she said.

Secretary Soliman noted that rape is a serious and traumatic experience and using it as a subject of joke is an insult to the survivors and their families.

The DSWD statement came following leading presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s recent joke about a murdered Australian rape victim in Davao City several years ago.

The DSWD is one of the government agencies whose mandates include rehabilitation, protection and empowerment of victims/survivors of violence, especially those who are sexually abused.

“We maintain centers and institutions that provide services geared towards this end. If we cannot be instrument towards their healing, the least we can do as citizens is to be cautious of our words and actions,” the DSWD chief said.

She also appealed for everyone to work collectively for a society where every person is valued and human dignity is upheld. (PNA)

MANILA, April 19 (PNA) – A Palace official believes that amidst the proliferation of surveys related to the May 2016 national polls administration bets would continue to gain support as a manifestation of public’s desire for the continuation of the Daang Matuwid (Straight Path) theme.

In a statement Tuesday, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said media reports on political developments had affected voters preference. ”The race for both the Presidency and Vice Presidency remains closely fought and highly competitive,” he said. ”We are confident that in the run-up to election day, the Daang Matuwid coalition will continue to garner support as our Bosses manifest their desire for continuity of good governance that is the basis for the attainment of inclusive growth,” he added. Among the various political surveys, Pulse Asia on Tuesday released the result of an ABS-CBN pre-electoral national survey, wherein Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte again took the lead after topping the first choice presidential preference, the second time such outcome came out. Duterte first topped the survey on presidential race in the Social Weather Station (SWS) survey conducted from March 30 to April 2, or after the second presidential debate held in Cebu, and results of which were released on April 11, 2016. The Pulse Asia survey, conducted from March 29 to April 3, 2016, meanwhile, showed Senator Grace Poe topping the second choice presidential preference.

With less than three weeks to go before election day, candidates are now making last minute pitches to the voting public, hoping that they will be able to come out on top of their political rivals on May 6.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s numbers in surveys continue to rise, despite being pilloried by his political rivals for being a self-confessed womanizer, head of a death squad vigilante group and a vulgar. Duterte was also recently censured severely by his critics for his “uncivilized” remark about the rape and murder of an Australian missionary during a prison riot in Davao in 1989.

Some political observers are saying that Duterte’s “joke remark” on the rape and murder of the Australian missionary could have a backlash on voters come election day. Some are even saying that his numbers in surveys will significantly go down since most of his supporters might have been disgusted about his remarks on the death of the missionary.

With the election coming in less than three weeks, I doubt if Duterte’s political supporters will abandon the feisty city executive from Mindanao. People are tired of empty promises of traditional politicians that no one believes anymore.

Duterte’s no-nonsense drive against crime, illegal drugs and corruption are the reasons why voters remain loyal to him. He is the exact opposite of President Aquino, who is a weakling and a do-nothing and indecisive leader. Duterte, on the other hand, is hard worker and an honest politicians for years. He gets things done efficiently.

No wonder, Duterte is the top choice of most Filipinos to be their next president. We will know next month if Filipino voters have finally come to their senses and elect someone who can really do something good for the people, particularly those who have less in life. *** Despite having an unlimited financial campaign funds and the use of government funds and resources at his disposal, LP presidential bet Mar Roxas remains locked in fourth place, behind Duterte, Llamanzares and Binay.

Roxas’ political rivals have accused him of resorting to bribery to prop up his presidential bid. He is being accused by opposition leaders of bribing people to attend and cheer for him when he’s campaigning.

As expected, Roxas and his campaign staff deny such allegations. However, a two minute video that went viral showed that the emcee in the Roxas rally in Picut town in North Cotabato giving “envelopes” to some people who attended the rally chanting “Oras na, Roxas na.”

This is very pathetic. If I were Roxas, I will just quit the presidential race to save face since there is no hope at all that he will be elected president next month. Poor Leni Robredo. Why did she allow herself to be suckered in running alongside Roxas? It would have been better if she was chosen as the presidential candidate of the Liberal party. I think she has a much better chance of winning the presidency than Roxas. *** Vice President Jojo Binay is still very optimistic that he will win the presidential race next month. If his much-vaunted political machinery will work double time, he might make it. It is only Binay and Roxas who have political organizations that connect all the way down to the farthest rural areas in the country. 3. You can dictate who will inherit from your estate.

If you pass away without a Will, your estate will be divided and distributed in Probate Court following the rules of intestate succession in the California probate code. Certain relatives will be entitled to a share of your estate even if you feel they are not deserving.

By establishing a revocable living trust, you can designate who you want to inherit from your estate. You can designate what and how much each one will received from your estate after you pass away. The assets distributed to each beneficiaries does not have to be equal.

The people you designate as beneficiaries of your living trust does not even have to be close family members. You can designate anyone as a beneficiary, with certain exceptions, of your estate.

4. You can structure your estate to minimize estate taxes If your estate is valued above the estate tax exemption, establishing a trust can allow you to divide up your estate into smaller sub trusts to minimize the overall estate tax effect on your estate. It allows you to set up a vehicle for certain charitable giving which carries tax advantage and asset protection.

5. You can choose who will administer your estate after your death When you establish a revocable trust, you can appoint someone else as trustee or you can appoint a successor trustee if you are the initial trustee. The trustee will be administering (managing) the trust after you pass away without a need to open a probate court case.

This allows for continuity in operating the trust and the efficient and cost effective distribution of estate assets. If you are concerned about whether you can trust any family members as your trustee, you can appoint an institution as a professional trustee to carry out the terms of the declaration of trust. These type of trustee services are often offered by banks, financial institutions, wealth management firms, and business management firms for a reasonable fee. This minimizes conflicts within the family and prevents negligence and wrong doing by inexperienced family members.

DOH inoculates over 100,000 students in 2 weeks

MANILA, April 18 (PNA) -- The Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday it has vaccinated a total of 148,431 grade 4 pupils during the first two weeks of the school-based anti-dengue immunization program since its launching this month in three keys regions of the country. p>According to DOH Undersecretary Vicente Belizario, the number of those already immunized pupils represents 72 percent of the total number of children with parental consent in the public schools where the dengue vaccination program began to roll out last April 4, using the Dengvaxia dengue vaccine manufactured by the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur.

The program covers the National Capital Region (NCR) or Metropolitan Manila, Region III (Central Luzon) and Region IV-A (Calabarzon or the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon).

Central Luzon or Region III is composed of the provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Aurora.

“As of April 17, 2016, a total of 148,431 (72 percent) pupils have been vaccinated out of 206,673 pupils with parental consent,” Belizario said, adding that the vaccination of the remaining 28 percent with parental consent is still ongoing.

“With 148,431 students vaccinated in a span of two weeks, we are on the right track because the first dose of the vaccine will be implemented for the first three months (April-MayJune). That will be batch-by-batch,” DOH Secretary Janette L. Garin said.

The second dose of the vaccine will be given from October to December 2016 and the third dose from April to June 2017,, she added.

As this developed, the DOH felt quite vindicated as the World Health

Organization-Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (WHO-SAGE) on Immunization made a pronouncement and recommendation on the DOH dengue immunization program using the Dengvaxia (anti-dengue vaccine).

The vaccine was approved by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last December 2015.

Prior to approval, the said vaccine, the first-ever in the world, had been subjected to more than 20 years of clinical trials.

The vaccine was also approved and licensed in other countries such as Mexico and Brazil which have their own regulatory body that checks the efficacy and safety of the vaccine.

More than 700,000 grade 4 pupils have so far been identified by the Department of Education (DepEd) in the three targeted regions that will be receiving the first-ever free dengue vaccines.

The DOH is also considering to add another region with high incidence of dengue cases to be part of the free- dengue vaccination program to complete the target of one million children to ensure that the vaccine, which only the rich can afford, is made available also to the poor and vulnerable sectors of society who also need to be protected from the disease.

The vaccine was procured by the government at a lower or discounted price from the manufacturer as part of the corporate social responsibility of Sanofi Pasteur, after the government asked the company on how it can help the vulnerable sectors of society.

With the low price, the government, through the DOH, has made true its promise to ensure access of the vulnerable sectors and reduce health inequities under the Universal Health Care Program (Kalusugang Pangkalahatan) agenda of the Aquino administration. (PNA)

Swedish research could help detect autism in boys STOCKHOLM, April 21 (PNA/ Xinhua) – A new way of detecting autism in young males may make the condition easier to discover and treat, according to Swedish research published on Wednesday.

Using brain imaging, researchers were able to produce a quantitive measure of activity of a brain circuit associated with social interaction, the University of Gothenburg said.

“We can now measure how well this circuit functions in individual patients,” said Malin Bjornsdotter, assistant professor at the university’s Sahlgrenska Academy.

She added that the measuring technique may help to determine whether a given treatment of autism

spectrum disorder (ASD) is effective or not.

“The behavioral symptoms of ASD are so complex and varied that it is difficult to determine whether a new treatment is effective, especially within a realistic time frame,” Bjornsdotter said.

The study, published on Wednesday in the journal JAMA Psychiatry, detected ASD by monitoring brain activity in social perception circuits of the brain, but only in boys, the university said.

Its findings will help treat autism patients by “indicating whether behavioral, drug or a combination of the treatments will be most effective,” the university wrote.(PNA/Xinhua)

The subject was brought up in an interview tendered for his and Heart Evangelista’s upcoming Kapuso series “Juan Happy Love Story.”

The press was gearing to zoom in for the kill, so to speak, by casually mentioning how nice it is seeing a recent post of them (Dennis and Jennylyn) together on vacation.

On “Juan Happy Love Story,” Dennis plays a promiscuous playboy, something he isn’t in real life.

So how did he prepare for this “chick boy” role?

What Kathryn feels about her new movie with Daniel

Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla are both pressured and excited as they gear up for their next movie under Star Cinema.

The two will star in an upcoming big-screen project to be directed by veteran filmmaker Olivia M. Lamasan.

COMMUNITY Travelling exhibit for victimized women opens in LA

A MULTI-RACIAL feminist organization has opened a travelling art exhibition over the weekend in a gallery in Chinatown, Los Angeles to honor women who were victimized in the society in different ways.

Titled Recuerdo / Alaala / Remembrance: Earrings of Shadow and Light, would be the “first traveling art exhibition of its kind,”according to the officials of the feminist group AF3IRM. The artworks were created by local and international artists, jewelry makers, musicians and community folks. All the creative imaginations were focused on the creation of art around earrings. But each of the participants was asked to create only one earring instead of a pair.

In a commemorative booklet, the organizers explained that the reason for that was: “Across borders, earrings are ornaments that have been worn from pre-colonial times to the present with various purposes and significance, and in Recuerdo / Alaala / Remembrance, they hold deep meaning. Earrings are typically worn in pairs; however, participants were asked to create just one earring as a tribute to a particular woman or issue.

The single earring not only honors women’s histories and experiences, but sheds light onto those whose stories have gone unheard, whose lives have been taken, and whose voices have been erased.”

“The exhibition seeks to remember women – not only with the visual story told through the earring displayed, but also through the void present within the incomplete pair. As transnational/women of color, we are all too familiar with the absence and disappearance of the lives and stories of women. The works on display seek to

tell the stories and honor the women that history, the mainstream media, and so many within our society refuse to acknowledge. We bear witness to all of our sisters through this illumination of the earring displayed and the loss portrayed in its shadow.”

Ivy Quidro, AF3IRM international organizing director, said around 20 artists participated and 40 pieces of artworks were created for the exhibit.

She said that the art exhibition will attempt to highlight the fate of millions of girls and women who went missing, murdered and/or trafficked around the world.

Quidro still could not say how long the exhibition would stay in its current gallery at Chung King Road in Chinatown, Los Angeles.

“We are still in the process of negotiating with the gallery here and with our counterparts in the other cities,” Quidro said, “but we will make the announcement soon.”

The Los Angeles show was participated by jewelry makers Nena SoulFly, Native Sol, Noelle Reyes of Mi Vida Boutique, and ilaments; media artist and ethnobotanist T’uy’t’tanat – Cease Wyss of the Squamish First Nation; storyteller Tanzila Ahmed of the #GoodMuslimBadMuslim podcast; world-renowned Chilean musician Ana Tijoux; and Chicana Artivist Martha Gonzalez; as well as one of the founders and several artists from Heart of Art, a space for women, queer and transgender folks.

AF3IRM is a national organization of transnational feminist women of color with nine chapters across the country. Founded in 1989, AF3IRM’s diverse, multi-ethnic membership recognizes the intersectionality of the struggles of different races and is dedicated to the struggle for women’s liberation and to fight all forms of oppression.

New York unveils $21-Mr plan to address threat of Zika NEW YORK, April 19 (PNA/Xinhua) – Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio on Monday announced a three-year, 21-million-dollar plan to address the threat of Zika outbreak in the city.

The plan includes reducing the number of mosquitoes in New York City by doubling and optimizing existing mosquito traps, improving the city’s testing capacity for the disease, and creating an awareness campaign for people to understand the virus and take appropriate precautions.

“We take the threat of Zika virus very seriously,” said de Blasio at a press conference held at New York Public Health Laboratory.

Currently 358 patients were confirmed to have contracted the disease in the United States, 40 of who have been reported in New York City.

However, none of the 40 cases were infected locally, de Blasio noted.

The specific species of mosquito that transmits the disease has not been found in the city, the mayor said, but there’s a similar species that could potentially spread the virus.

At the press conference, Dr. Herminia Palacio, the deputy mayor for health and human services, said the City has extensive experience in its 20 years of controlling mosquito population that carries the West Nile virus.

Sen. Leno’s Foreclosure Prevention Bill passes key committee SACRAMENTO – The Senate Banking Committee today passed legislation that helps prevent unnecessary foreclosures when a primary mortgage holder passes away. Senate Bill 1150, authored by Senators Mark Leno and Cathleen Galgiani, closes a loophole in California law that fails to provide surviving spouses and children important protections against foreclosure that are available to other homeowners.

“Instead of getting basic information on how to proceed with a home loan following the death of a loved one, surviving spouses and children face a labyrinth of paperwork and conflicting directions and requests, which only prolongs their grief,” said Senator Leno. “Many family members unnecessarily lose their homes without ever knowing they had the right to assume the loan or seek foreclosure remedies.

Before more families give up, we must step in.”

In 2012, California led the nation in providing foreclosure relief for homeowners by passing the Homeowners’ Bill of Rights. However, this legislation did not protect surviving family members who own their homes but are not listed on the mortgage. These survivors report that lenders refuse to communicate with them or fail to provide factual information about loan details and foreclosure avoidance programs. As a result, many families have endured unnecessary foreclosures.

SB 1150 clarifies the responsibilities of a mortgage lender when a borrower dies and one of the surviving homeowners wishes to assume the loan. The legislation ensures that heirs receive accurate information about loan assumption and foreclosure prevention programs. It also gives survivors a single point of contact with the lender and the ability to simultaneously apply for loan assumption and modification.

Raymond Orosa makes owning a Mercedes-Benz an easy feat “We do have a bad reputation. The two professions that people don’t like are attorneys and car salesmen, because off-the-bat, people think that they are going to be cheated by them.

But not all of us are like that.” Fleet Sales Manager Raymond Orosa of Mercedes-Benz of Encino opens up.

“It’s about selling (yes), but it’s not about selling to them today – if they’re not ready. You don’t push them. You may close a sale by doing that but it’s not a ‘buyer for life,’ (that sale) ends

there. I don’t go for one-hit wonders.

I go for you, your brother, your sister, your friends. Eventually, I don’t have to call people anymore because people call me – that should be your goal,” he said.

Of all the right things about Orosa; a risk-taker, an artist and a people-lover, his take on client-dealer relationship and his bedrock principle is the rightest: he is not your typical “car salesman.”

Orosa has been with Mercedes-Benz for 10 years. Having sold roughly 2,500 cars in his lifetime – and only with Mercedes-Benz – the man clearly has car-selling down to a fine art.

He won “Salesman of the Year” numerous times and is known for going above and beyond the norm of client service.

“I deliver cars...pick up their cars for service...I’d lease a car so that when I pick up their car they’d have a loaner car – I do

things differently,” Orosa adds.

The battery that supplies the electricity for the motors is a high-capacity 12kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Three drive modes are available: EV (full electric mode), series hybrid (electric power with generator operation) and parallel hybrid (engine power and electric motor assistance). The PHEV system automatically selects the most efficient drive mode given the road conditions and other factors. The system also features a regenerative braking mode, where electricity is captured under braking.

The S-AWC system found on the Outlander PHEV is a specialized application of Lancer Evolution-derived Super All-Wheel Control developed
