Through the horrific post-mortem fate of Ken, a biker of little faith who ends up decapitated in an accident, Pirkle plays out his relentless indictment to ensure that Tim, a friend of the deceased, will not make the same mistake as his comrade. With a ridiculously low budget, his own son cast as Tim, and extras picked directly from the religious community, Ron Ormond wraps up yet another outrageously shocking film that traumatised a whole generation.

F Troisième entrée de The Rapture, la série fondamentaliste chrétienne autour de l’Enlèvement de l’Église, Image of the Beast narre la guérilla menée par les croyant·e·s contre ceux frappés d’un sceau informatisé de la Bête, alors que la venue de l’Antéchrist se précise. Prêches apocalyptiques et leçons de foi viennent caviarder un récit d’anticipation minimaliste, mais suffisamment angoissant et aliénant (ah ces satanés ordinateurs!) pour captiver les fidèles. La formule de cette messe cinématographique s’avère payante puisque la série a été vue par plus de 400 millions de personnes dans les lieux de culte. E Image of the Beast is the third installment in the Fundamentalist Christian series The Rapture. It gives an account of the guerrilla warfare that believers wage against those who have been struck with the computerised seal of the Beast, as the coming of the Antichrist nears. Apocalyptic preachings and lessons in faith undermine a minimalist sci-fi story, but it is sufficiently distressing and alienating (those damn computers!) to captivate the faithful. This formula of a cinematic mass payed off: the series has been seen by over 400 million people in places of worship.
