Farewell Gail

It is with much sadness that on Saturday September 30th that we learnt of the passing of Gail Denver following a long illness. Gail and her family had been residents of the Maleny District for over 40 years

Right to the very end Gail was heavily involved in volunteering for the many organisations that she tirelessly worked for. Just some of those organisations included:Pattemore House, The Maleny Drama Group where she was an actor, director and writer. The Maleny District Sports & Recreation Club became her passion following the allocation of the Maleny Precinct to house many community organisations. The Maleny Show Society saw her as a steward for the Beef Cattle Pavilion for over 30 years, the Precinct and so much more.

Through her volunteering Gail was well known to much of the Maleny community, both long termed and newer residents.

On International Women’s Day 2023 the ZONTA Club of Blackall Range awarded the prestigious 2023 ‘Woman of Achievement Award’ to Gail. The award was presented to Gail by ZONTA District 22 Lieutenant Governor, Ms Peta Ludwig

The Denver family, mum Jo Denver, brother Simon Denver and sister Jane Denver (deceased) and Gail herself were all very talented writers and directors , especially for theatrical presentations.

Gail will leave a very big hole in many community organisations. There will be celebration of Gail’s life on a future date which has not been announced at this time.

The Travelling Jackaroo

Another milestone has been reached as I top $130,000 funds raised for The Royal Flying Doctor Service. My total fundraising is now over $200,000.

I’m also announcing formally that my plans for once I’ve finished this trip, in 9 months time, is going to be building and running a Mobile Travelling Museum on Australian History including a key focus on Outback and Rural people and objects as well as various aspects of Travelling people of Australia (Showmen, Swagmen, Circus and several others).

This Museum will still be fundraising for my charities and will incorporate aspects of them into it as well to enable me to continue my fundraising and awareness raising, long into the future as well as providing a uniquely educational experience for not only the young but the old too.

I’m currently working on finding various Exhibits as well as designing the Museum itself which will most likely be a trailer pulled by an older Truck.

Maleny Cricket Club

“The Redbacks”

Cricket in Maleny is thought to have commenced in the mid 1920’s officially. On November 9th ,1903, Kenilworth played host to a team from Teutoberg (Witta). The Teutoberg team won the match by 32 runs. Names such as Bergann, Bobermein, Cox and Sommer are still associated with this area. From earliest times it is obvious that cricket formed an important part of the lives of the early settlers.

The area also produced an Australian International Test cricketer. Otto Ernest Nothling who played for Australia, New South Wales, Queensland starting in 1928. He played with the likes of Sir Donald Bradman. Do you know a young cricketer who would like to start out playing for Maleny Redbacks? If so give Catherine a ring on 0401474932 or email her at catherine@malenyrealestate.com to find out more. The Redbacks home field is at the Maleny Showgrounds, Maleny.

Managing Anxiety in Sports: A Path to Peak Performance

Josie Coco is a Psychotherapy Counsellor and Energy Psychology Practitionerhas extensive experience with anxiety and depression, alcohol, drug and other addictions, PTSD, CPTSD. relationship trauma, the lasting impacts of childhood neglect and/or abuse, and more.

Josie is available for private consultations.

In the competitive world of sports, anxiety can be both a formidable opponent and a powerful ally. It's normal to feel nervous before a big game or during intense training sessions. I’m thinking of the Wallabies as they prepare to meet Portugal as I write! Understanding how to manage anxiety can make all the difference in your performance and overall well-being.

First and foremost, acknowledge that anxiety is a natural response to the challenges of sports. It's your body's way of preparing for action. Embrace this adrenaline surge as it can sharpen your focus and increase your alertness.

However, when anxiety becomes overwhelming, it can hinder your performance. Here are some valuable tips to help you harness anxiety's energy and use it effectively:

• Breathing and Mindfulness: Practice deep, diaphragmatic breathing to calm your nerves. Mindfulness techniques can help you stay in the present moment, preventing your mind from wandering into anxious territory.

• Positive Self-talk: Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Remind yourself of your skills and training. Confidence can be a potent antidote to anxiety.

• Visualization: Create mental images of success. Imagine yourself performing flawlessly, and your mind will become accustomed to the idea of triumph.

• Preparation: Thoroughly prepare for your games or matches. Knowing you've done your best in training can boost your confidence and reduce anxiety.

https://issuu.com/Maleny-Grapevine-Community-News

• Seek Support: Talk to your coaches, teammates, or a therapist (like me). Sharing your feelings can alleviate the burden of anxiety. Going a bit deeper to understand your nervous system’s response to anxiety can make all the difference.

Remember, anxiety can be a driving force when managed effectively. Embrace it, channel its energy, and watch yourself soar to new heights in your athletic endeavours.

Sally Adams played well to score 8 hoops in her ricochet game on Tuesday against Stuart Craig and Priscilla Vickers who finished just ahead of her on 11.
