Maleny Senior Citizens
Maleny Senior Citizens meet every Friday morning from about 8.45 until 11am for a Cuppa, Chat, and some board games and a laugh or two. They meet in the Verandah Room under the Maleny Community Centre.
Every Friday morning is ‘drop in’ where games, laughter and morning tea is enjoyed by all. Occasionally the group join together to go on bus or train trips to varying local areas. Everything the club does is based on social activities that are fun.
This is one of the most social activities that we believe is held on a regular basis and is open to anyone over the age of 50. Those social activities include some bus trips and the regular Friday night meal with friends at various Maleny eateries.
The Friday night “get togethers” are very popular..
So if you would like to have a Cuppa, a Chat, a Laugh or just sit and listen to the chatter this is the place to come. New members are always welcome.
Call Margaret on 0419 179516 or 54942621. We look forward to seeing you soon. You are sure to meet “new friends” and great fun times.

Pattemore Milking Bails in Safe Hands
The Friends of Pattemore House are pleased to announce that they have been granted the License by the Sunshine Coast Council to manage the Pattemore Milking Bails on the Maleny Community Precinct.
Farmers arriving in the Maleny area had turned to dairying in the late 1890s. Maleny farmers established their own co-operative dairy factory in 1903-04.
The dairy bails were constructed using the saw-pit method, from white beech on the far ridge of their property. As some of the oldest intact milking bails left in the lush green hills of Maleny, the Bails were built by the four Pattemore brothers Bill, Stan, Albert and Ernest at the turn of the century shortly after they completed building “Fairview” (Pattemore House) for their parents, Emily and JR Pattemore.
They were built to accommodate share farmers to work JR Pattemore’s dairy farming property. The brothers constructed dairy bails, yards and a sharefarmer’s house called “Mosman” on a ridge about 400 metres to the east of Fairview in North Maleny. Whilst Mosman is gone, removed to Caloundra in
They are one of of the last remaining examples in the district of a walk-through milking parlour, bestowing a high historical significance to Maleny, the region and to the dairy industry.
The Pattemore Milking Bails are unique in that they sit on public land, now forming an historic backdrop to the 18 hole Maleny Golf course. With a heritage, sculpture and poetry trail meandering past them on the developing Maleny Community Precinct, the bails need some serious TLC to allow visitors and walkers to safely enjoy them and understand their role.
After working for many years to have them recognised as an important heritage reminder of Maleny’s dairying past, the Friends established the Fairview Bails Restoration Committee in January 2022 to reinvigorate the restoration plans under the Chairmanship of member John te Kloot.
The Vision Statement of the group is to: restore and preserve the Fairview milking shed and yards for the future education and enjoyment of all restore and preserve the Fairview shed and yards, including the six unique walk-through cow bails enable visitors safe access to guided tours and non-entry viewing
The License to manage the bails, nestled in the heart of North Maleny dairying country, is the start of what the Friends are determined will be a chapter that’s yet to be told from the Pattemore’s family history.
Looking to the future and with community support, the Fairview Bails Restoration Committee will work to restore, maintain and preserve the historic site, in doing so creating another unique heritage experience for walkers on the Maleny Community Precinct.

Last week The Whistlers played at Witta against Nambour ZTA Allstars. It was nice and warm, perfect weather for tennis. We had lots of good rallies and great shots as usual. We could not win, but had a great day. Score was 29-42 games, 1-7 sets. Team was Paula Cudmore, Maree Hooley, Donna Kuskopf and Aki Lepper. The two Witta teams, Witta Wompoos and Witta Wikings battled it out in the Sunshine Coast Vets Tennis competition recently with a very tight and competitive match expected on the day. They didn’t disappoint with sets see-sawing through the day including one tie break set to keep things interesting. John, Kev, Glenn and Andrew Moser showed their patience winning three out of the five men’s doubles sets played on the day.
Witta Wompoos team of Sean, Tony, Andrew, Jim, Paula and Annie winning four of the six mixed doubles matches. Annie and Paula then outplayed Maree and Stacey in an entertaining women’s doubles match. A close tally saw the Wompoos victorious 7 sets 55 games to 5 sets 43 games.
Thanks to the Wikings for hosting us on the day and putting on such a great spread and wonderful weather.
Two matches are left in the competition which is looming as a very close contest for the top 4 teams.
The Witta Tennis Club has a long history, with the courts originally opened in 1920 by Witta’s Karl Nothling, foundation President and a Landsborough Shire Councillor.

The Range Croquet Club - Maleny
Ricochet returned to the lawn on Tuesday with a tight game between Dianne Horsman and a team consisting of Priscilla Vickers and Sally Adams culminating in a win for Dianne 9 – 7.
There was an interesting game played on Thursday. Chris Borlase and Stuart Craig locked horns with Lynette Evans and Helen Andrews. Stuart made a break of 3 in their score of 13 while Helen and Lynette managed 14 overall – an extremely competitive game.
A large contingent of Maleny players played in the Nell Hass memorial tournament at Headland
Buderim Club on Saturday and Sunday. This is a particularly well run and enjoyable event which is recommended for players of all levels. Vince Carbery, Nick Cram, Ken Barker, Dianne, Carole Atkinson, and Lynette played across the three blocks against various players from around the Sunshine
with draw, the competition was so enjoyable that even the grumpiest of old men (read Ken) could find nothing to complain about. Thanks, Headland, for a great tournament.
Lynette played well in all her games to take out the major prize overall, while Dianne, who came in a clear second overall won her block.
