Facilities Our large, open-plan laboratory includes concrete, geotechnics, strength of materials, hydraulics, structures, surveying, public health and building services engineering facilities to provide excellent coverage of the practical aspects of your engineering course. The laboratory also accommodates design and fabrication activities, from traditional work-benches and hand-tools to laser cutters, 3D printers, digital fabrication robots and mixed-reality design suites. These facilities underpin the advanced construction manufacturing and automation elements in our MEng Architectural Engineering course. The School houses its own design studio space and computer laboratory to support the specialist teaching on these courses.

Placement year All students currently have the opportunity to study abroad through UNITECH or Erasmus, or undertake industrial training – successful completion of which leads to a Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS). This year of practical work gives students a clearer understanding of industry to help with the later stages of study and decisions about future career direction. The placement year can often lead to sponsorship during the final year of the course and even a job offer upon graduation.
Career prospects Of our MEng Civil Engineering graduates who were in employment six months after graduating, 98% were in professional or managerial roles. The average graduate starting salary was £27,500 (DLHE 2016/17).
