Facilities We have recently invested £25 million upgrading S Building, home to our Chemical Engineering facilities. This includes the redevelopment of our pilot engineering laboratory, providing over 50 state-of-the-art experimental rigs to demonstrate key engineering principles. Our Interactive Virtual Reality Facility – the Igloo – uses unique simulation software, allowing students to explore the operation of real-life industrial processes within a safe and accessible environment. Students also have access to upgraded computer and teaching laboratories and group working spaces. Our students also benefit from access to STEMLab, a £17 million state-of-the-art laboratory facility. It includes a suite of laboratories for practical work, allowing students crucial opportunities to gain hands-on experience.

Study abroad Over the course of your degree, there are currently various opportunities to participate in overseas study exchange schemes such as UNITECH and Erasmus, spending your third year professional development project (MEng only) at an international partner institution in destinations such as Sweden, France, Australia, USA and Europe.
Industrial placement year All students are given the opportunity to complete a paid, one-year placement in industry, recognised through the Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS) when completed successfully. We provide students with considerable help in sourcing, securing, supporting, and assessing their placement.
Employability Most of our graduates are employed by process companies in the oil, gas, water, food and drink, pharmaceutical, health and personal care, plastics and general chemical industries and they go on to hold senior positions in major companies.
