oet Emily Dickinson once wrote: “Find ecstasy in life; the mere sense of living is joy enough.” As the first day of spring rapidly approaches, the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra (BVSO) wants to remind everyone that the beauties of life exist in the art of actually living with its presentation of “Two Emilys.” Come and celebrate life on Feb. 23 with the BVSO and irradiant soprano Emily Pulley as they perform a collection of inspiring musical pieces by Mozart and Aaron Copland. With an opening performance of Mozart’s “Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183,” the BVSO aims to introduce and indulge in the “storm and stress[es]” of Mozart’s early musical creativity, written when he was just 17. This will be followed by two beautiful selections of Aaron Copland’s work: “Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson” and “Appalachian Spring.” In “Eight Poems,” Copland utilizes eight of Dickinson’s poems as he musically explores the Dickinsonian themes of death, love, and reaching one’s full potential. With “Two Emilys,” Brazos Valley’s premier symphony orchestra will continue their tradition of sharing the joys of the musical arts with the community. Founded in 1981 after the coalescence of the Brazos Symphony Orchestra and the Bryan-College Station Chamber Orchestra, the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra has made cultural expansion and artistic education their main goal.
