spring!!
•
Spring, the time when a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of love, tennis shoes, top hats and flowers. This year's Prom broke W.H. S. tradition by being held at Stoneybrook Girl Scout Camp. Decorated with flowers, candles, and lots of smoke, the atmosphere was undeniably different from past proms. Queen this year was Debbie Watkins who was escorted by Alan Pierce.

We made it . . . We really did . . . are the words shouted as the Seniors ran down the halls hugging and kissing each other knowing that it may be the last time they would ever see some of their fellow friends.

This years fighting Spartans, under the unfailing leadership of Coach Harvey and backed by astounding school spirit, ended the best season of football Waynesville has ever had. The only flaw in an otherwise perfect season was a 14-12 loss to Mason putting us in second place in the FAVC standings. A number of the players received postseason awards. Bo Bradley was named Honorable Mention on an All American team. Ron Sackett, Marty Mayo, Ed Cullison, Jeff Styers, and Dale Cook received various awards from state, county, and league organization.

During the season the Reserve team would bring out the fire in the Spartan fans when the score would get too close. Although the outcome wasn't always in our favor we still felt victorious because we lmew the team had done their darndest to try and win.

Once upon a time there was a strong young man who made all the young girls smile. His only rivals for playboy of the year were two shifty looking creatures who spent lots of time showing off their car and talent for making smoke rings. The other boys around town provided no match for this young man so they were destined to lives of chess, ice cream bars, and slaving over machines. The lifetime goal of this young man was to free a lonely young girl who lived alone in a castle because she didn't use Scope every morning. Keeping guard over the castle door was a mean old woman who kept having to give directions to strangers who got the wrong address. Also watching over this young maiden was the Queen and her lover and a lady in waiting. As do all heroes, the young man rescued the young maiden and one of the shifty looking creatures joined an underground organization which smuggled horoscopes into school. Unlike other fairy tales, all didn't live happily ever after because the strong man turned out to be a weakling and he could not carry the young maiden out of the castle.

Cramming for an upcoming test can really work up an appetite and make the fabulous W. H. S. lunches seem almost unworthy. The home ec students strive to someday become what seems impossible. Grades are of some concern as shown by a student talking with a member of the faculty; while Bobby Sherman plays the role in Cindi 's life. Anyone for volleyball??? The day seems to end more quickly than it began.
