ADULT EDUCATION INCREASE YOUR SKILLS.

MCC Adult Education offers noncredit instruction to students in the Omaha metro area who are seeking to develop their basic skills, earn a GED or increase their literacy as a nonEnglish speaker. For more information, visit mccneb.edu/AdultEducation.

GED (GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT)

MCC Adult Education is a program sponsored jointly by the Nebraska State Department of Education and the College. This program is for adults 18 years of age or older; however, those who are at least 16 years of age and are not enrolled in a regular high school program may enroll with special permission from the Nebraska State Department of Education. This program offers students the opportunity to develop basic reading, writing and math skills. There are no fees for GED classes.

This program also consists of GED preparation classes that prepare adults for the General Education Development examination, a nationally standardized test of high school equivalency. There is an application fee for the high school diploma and a testing fee. The high school diploma is issued by the Nebraska Department of Education upon successful completion of the examination.

The GED exam consists of the following four timed tests:

• Reasoning through language arts (150 minutes)

• Social studies (90 minutes)

• Science (90 minutes)

• Mathematical reasoning (115 minutes)

GED classes are offered at locations throughout the Omaha metro area. Two program pathways for GED are available — enrollment-based and open learning classes.

The enrollment-based classes require students to:

• Take an introductory three-week course [the Transitional Learning Community].

• Complete Nebraska Department of Education paperwork.

• Complete an interview.

• Complete computer literacy education components.

• Take periodic CASAS testing.

• Open enrollment classes so students may attend and participate as their schedules permit

• Self-paced GED prep classes

• No requirements for attendance or testing

MCC is authorized by GED Testing Service to provide official GED testing. Additional information regarding MCC Adult Education and GED classes can be obtained by calling the Adult Education office at 531-622-4060.

DIGITAL BADGING

Many of the Workforce Education offerings provide digital badges for your professional portfolio. Contact corporatetraining@mccneb.edu for more information.

What is digital badging?

A digital badge is an indicator of accomplishment or skill that can be displayed, accessed and verified online. Badges are issued based on established criteria for what must be done to earn the badge. When a digital badge is displayed online, clicking the image provides a description of the skill demonstrated and the criteria used to measure it.

Why do digital badges matter?

A digital badge is important because it represents a credential or verified evidence of skill. Demonstration of these discrete skills is not dependent on completion of a degree, so a digital badge can be used to support and verify specific skills and abilities required for employment, advancement in your career or other purposes.

What is Gap?

What does a digital badge look like?

The level of a digital badge issued by MCC is determined through a review of the learning experience. A digital badge is aligned to one of four digital badge images that represent the level of challenge or complexity of the demonstrated skill.

How do I claim and use a

digital badge?

When you earn a digital badge, you receive an email with instructions about how to claim and save it. You may display your earned badges on any number of digital platforms, such as LinkedIn or a digital portfolio, as evidence of your skill. Badges may also be included in digital versions of your résumé. Contact corporatetraining@mccneb.edu for more information.

The MCC Gap Assistance program provides needs-based tuition assistance for approved short-term training programs that are in high-need fields.
