Rich River teed up to host open

THIS YEAR WILL MARK THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ERA IN THE RICH HISTORY OF THE NSW OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP, WITH MOAMA’S RICH RIVER GOLF CLUB SET TO BE AT THE FOREFRONT

March 16-19 | Moama
7 What’s On

For the first time in its 92-year existence, the tournament will be played in the Riverina region, a far cry from the esteemed Sydney-based courses fans have come to expect.

A tournament that has seen the likes of Australian golf legends Greg Norman, Ian Baker-Finch and Kel Nagle claim its crown, the best golfers the nation has to offer will descend on the twin towns for an epic weekend of action.

Slated to run from March 16 to 19 on the East Course, Rich River Golf Club chief executive Shane Gloury said it was a thrill to be nominated as the host for the 2023 event.

“We are absolutely stoked (to be the host),” Shane said.

“It is a tournament steeped with tradition; Greg Norman’s won the event four times, Ian Baker-Finch, Kel Nagle, all the legends of Australian golf have won this event.

“It is played on the very best golf courses in NSW, so for us to even be in that equation is incredible and we are very honoured and privileged to be hosting this event.”

Bringing an event like this to the region will have a vast amount of benefits that go well beyond the golf course.

Shane explained why Echuca-Moama was the perfect location to host such an esteemed event on

the golfing calendar.

“They (Golf NSW) were very keen to get down to this region and support it especially after all the floods,” he said.

“We’ve got a good golfing facility, which was a major consideration for bringing the tournament here, but also the township of Echuca-Moama.

“There are plenty of accommodation options and lots of support infrastructure like cafes, restaurants

and clubs, which makes the region appealing.

“This tournament will further cement the twin towns as a top tourist destination and bring a valuable boost to our tourism economy.”

As for what the punters can expect from the weekend, Shane said it would be the perfect mix of top quality golf in a pristine location.

“The golf course will be turned out immaculately, the sole focus of our greenkeeping team up until the open is to get the course in as good a condition as they can, and they’ll be working around the clock to make that happen,” he said.

“Fans will see the very best domestic players in Australia and some top quality international players fight it out over 72 holes of golf for the NSW open crown.

“And off the course there will be a range of activities people can enjoy in Echuca-Moama such as the paddle-steamers and water sports.

“I think anyone who either plays in the event or comes along as a fan will enjoy their time up here so book your accommodation now as it is running out fast.”

The NSW Open Golf Championship at Rich River Golf Club will run from March 16 to 19.

Plan a wedding in one day

ECHUCA-MOAMA WEDDINGS AND EVENTS

FESTIVAL IN MAY IS THE PERFECT EVENT TO HELP YOU PLAN YOUR SPECIAL OCCASION.

Before a couple can head down the aisle and say ‘I do’, there’s generally a bit of planning necessary. That’s where Echuca-Moama Weddings and Events Festival comes in.

With close to 70 local vendors, the event is a one-stop shop for all things weddings, but also any other special occasion on the horizon — engagements, birthdays and anniversaries. The festival has it all.

Along with showing services, new products and ideas, event-goers will have the chance to chat with those making their day special from photographers, cake decorators and florists through to venues, celebrants and more.

“A lot of people walk away with their whole wedding planned from start to finish,” festival vice-president Tracy Luscombe said.

Having moved to the Echuca Racecourse three years ago, the event is looking to host more than 400 people.

Tracy said she was looking forward to the relaxed, bubbly atmosphere once more.

“We’re really excited to get back to a bit of normality,” she said.

“It’s been tough with the last three years brides having to postpone so it’s nice to see people be able to celebrate.”

The event will be held on Sunday, May 7 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Echuca Racing Club, on the corner of Scott Rd and Murray Valley Hwy, Echuca. Tickets are available at the door for $10 (free entry for under-14s).

Beat the winter blues

THE ECHUCA MOAMA WINTER BLUES FESTIVAL HAS BEEN BRINGING THE TWIN TOWNS ALIVE FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS WITH THE BEST LOCAL AND NATIONAL MUSIC ACTS.

Sprawled across 20-plus venues, the festival will feature the cream of the Australian blues music scene on the last weekend in July.

Winter Blues committee member Paul Jarman has participated in the festival for 13 years and said it was “absolutely the best weekend in Echuca”.

“It is a free festival that in excess of 15,000 people come to our community every year which makes Echuca this amazing place in the middle of winter,” Paul said.

“People wandering from venue to venue, hotel to hotel, restaurant to restaurant and walking around

our town, that creates this really unique experience in Echuca, one weekend a year.”

Originally started by a group of shopkeepers to create an event in the quietest time of the year, the festival has grown from humble beginnings as a one-day event in a pub with a couple of bands to the multi-venue, multi-day event we have today.

Over the four days of the Winter Blues festival, more than 130 acts will perform in a range of venues including free outdoor spaces.

A highlight of 2023 will be the infectious riff and groove based blue-billy-grass-rockin’-roots band 19-twenty.

July 27-30 | Echuca
15 What’s On
Echuca | July 27-30 16 What’s On

The powerhouse trio has been whipping up a frenzy on the festival scene in Australia and throughout Europe.

“Even if you are not into the blues, the music, the weekend is so much fun,” Paul said.

“It is really unique in music festivals, as this is not a big music festival that sits in a paddock, this is a music festival in the centre of our town, for you to just wander the weekend picking out who you want to listen to.

“Most people say how amazing it is.

“The visitors that come to our town that weekend keep coming back year after year, which is a fantastic endorsement of how great the festival is.

“Because of the lead time to book the accommodation, now is the time to do it, because like most people, when you buy a festival ticket, there’s quite often five or six months before you go in to see the performance.

“You will need to book your accommodation early because it books out around the town for the festival weekend.

“We have so much great variety of accommodation from high quality hotels to B&Bs through to caravan parks.”

Echuca Moama Winter Blues runs from Thursday, July 27 to Sunday, July 30.

Picnic time for teddy bears

EVERY TEDDY’S FAVOURITE DAY IS COMING UP SOON, WITH THE TEDDY BEARS’ PICNIC RETURNING TO ECHUCA-MOAMA.

Give your teddy a heads up so they can pick out their best outfit for the big day.

The event was a great success last year, with the Mik Macs performing at the event.

Murray River Mayor Chris Bilkey is encouraging residents and visitors to head along.

“The Teddy Bears’ Picnic is one of my favourite annual events. It’s great to see families and children with their teddy bears enjoying a day out in our beautiful surrounds,” Cr Bilkey said.

There will once again be wonderful entertainment to keep your child and their teddy bear busy, and the Moama Lions Club will be hosting a community barbecue for attendees.

“There’ll be face painting, bubble fun, giveaways and plenty of space to relax; so there’s something for the whole family to enjoy,” Cr Bilkey said.

Amenities will also include Port Ice Creamery, Let’s Do Coffee and more.

The event is being held at Moama Recreation Reserve’s main oval at 11 am on Sunday, April 2. Bring the whole family, especially your teddy, for a wonderful day out.

Feel the need for speed

THERE IS NOTHING QUITE LIKE IT. SET TO LIGHT UP ECHUCAMOAMA IN MARCH, THE SOUTHERN 80 IS ONE OF THE REGION’S PREMIER EVENTS.

Labelled “the biggest ski race in the world” by Moama Water Sports Club president Steve Shipp, the annual festival of waterskiing will be held from Thursday, March 23 until Sunday, March 26.

“It is an event that brings thousands of people into the region and is awesome for the economy and we’re very proud of it,” Steve said.

“It (the region) absolutely comes alive, a lot of the competitors start to come to Echuca weeks before to train on the river.

“It’s something that everyone knows about in the town.”

The main drawcard for the weekend is the Southern 80 race, with competitors travelling at speeds up to 200 km/h up the Murray River from Torrumbarry Weir to Echuca’s Victoria Park Boat Ramp on the Sunday.

Echuca | March 23-26

25 What’s On

This race is complemented by a bumper calendar of action with the traditional Breakfast with the Stars on the Friday and the Bakers Blitz and Presidents Dash on the Saturday, leaving little time to take a breath.

“There’s going to be a display of boats outside the American Hotel on the Saturday morning, which is something we haven’t done in the past so that will be great for people to come along to that,” Steve said.

“And then Friday night this year we have the hall of fame at Victoria Park.

“It’s an event where those that have raced in the past over many years come along to catch up with all their old friends.”

Sitting at the heart of festivities will be Victoria Park, with food stalls and a bar sure to keep people entertained.

“We’ll have a big screen running so everyone can see where the action is,” Steve said.

“We’ll have live footage from the start if people want to have a look and see what’s going on so Victoria Park is a really good place to be for the weekend to know what’s happening in the Southern 80.”

Being held a month later than originally scheduled due to safety concerns this year, Steve said the date change had seen little impact on the event, with the race one not to be missed.

“Everyone’s embraced the date change, they just want to do the race the Southern 80 is one of the

three main ski races that anyone in the world wants to do,” he said.

“The Southern 80 is the biggest in the world, then at second you’ve got the Diamond in Belgium on a canal and then the third one is Catalina in the United States.

"We’re so happy that the Southern 80 is at the top of the list for anyone and everyone.

“Come along and enjoy the spectacle because that’s what the Southern 80 is.”

The Backroads Trail features 22 attractions extending from Echuca-Moama, Womboota, Bunnaloo, Barmah-Koondrook, Caldwell, Deniliquin and Mathoura. The Backroads Trail now has a six-part podcast series where farmers, business owners and community members share their stories about connection to the land, food, wine, arts and culture and their experiences of living in our wonderful region.

Take the trail less travelled

TAKING A DETOUR OFF THE BEATEN TRACK HAS NEVER BEEN A SAFER BET WITH THE RIVER COUNTRY’S BACKROADS TRAIL ESPECIALLY SINCE THE INTRODUCTION OF THE NEW BACKROADS TRAIL PODCAST.

Featuring 22 attractions across the landscape of southern NSW, the scenic journey extends from Echuca-Moama to Womboota, Bunnaloo, BarhamKoondrook, Caldwell, Deniliquin and Mathoura.

The trail is filled with rich food, wine, locally sourced and handmade goods and experiences all equally as rich as the history and stories the region holds.

Delve deeper into the Backroads journey by hearing from Traditional Owners, business owners, farmers and community members in the newly released, six-part podcast series.

Murray River Council tourism officer Kristy Hayes said the Backroads Trail podcast would resonate not only with visitors, but locals of the twin towns and surrounds, too.

“Many of our lifelong locals would not be aware of the stories of bare knuckle boxing fought whilst Ned Kelly looked on, the invention of mechanised shearing or how the Murray River changed its course history that is in towns just a stone’s throw away,” she said.

Kristy said the podcast series discussed a wide range of content, providing insight into connection

to place, Indigenous stories of the area, how the trail has evolved and what life is like on the trail, spoken by those who know best.

Audiences can hear from three passionate farmers, chatting about the resilience and adaptability of their work and the learnings that come from tough times on the land.

Stories are told from those who have left the big smoke for riverine dwellings, others who use the Backroads Trail for artistic inspiration — the podcast explores differing themes through each episode. While indulging in the wonders of the Backroads Trail — meeting the locals, enjoying the fresh produce, absorbing all the countryside has on offer — Kristy recommended elevating the experience one step further.

“Listening to the podcast while you make your way around the Backroads Trail will not only enable people to immerse themselves in the history and experience, but to stand on historical sites and immerse themselves in tales of the land,” she said.

“Not to mention enjoying the fantastic local food and wine along the way.”

THE KYABRAM RODEO RETURNS ON FRIDAY, MARCH 10 FOR IT’S 77TH RENDITION.

After more than 75 years of history, the event returned last year after a one-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was a great success, with a large turnout encouraging the organisers to go even bigger this year.

Expect the same but more, with live music once again being organised and the wonderful bar facilities back in operation, with more staff and bigger facilities.

Once again look forward to rough riding, with a higher number of bulls, horses and steers in the line-up.

McPhee Rodeo Company is supplying the majority of stock and workers for the event.

Organisers expect Kyabram residents to get around the event as they always have, after a large amount of support last year coming back after COVID-19.

The rodeo will be held at the Kyabram Showgrounds in Allan St and attendees are encouraged to bring their own fold-up chairs. Doors open at 5 pm and the action starts at 7 pm. There is strictly no BYO alcohol, and security will also be upgraded this year.

Expect a fun and entertaining night of rodeo action.

HAVE CAR PARTS OR COLLECTABLES SITTING IN THE GARAGE, COLLECTING DUST? EXCHANGE OR SELL THEM AT THE ECHUCA SWAP MEET THIS AUTUMN.

After a three-year hiatus, the Echuca & District Historical Vehicle Club is proud to host its annual swap meet on Saturday, April 22.

Valerie Cosway from the Echuca & District Historical Vehicle Club said it was good to be back participating in swap meets, as the past three were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Held at the Rotary Park on Rose St, Echuca, an assortment of food and coffee vans will be there to satisfy appetites while a band performs, fittingly on the tray of a truck.

A ‘show and shine’ will entertain classic car lovers, with a display of special cars, 25 years or older,

on show — as well as a separate show for female drivers — with trophies presented to the best cars.

“We have 200 sites available although some have been booked by sellers since the very beginning,” Valerie said.

SHREK AND DONKEY ARE ON ANOTHER WHIRLWIND ADVENTURE AND THIS TIME THE STAGE IS CALLING.

The cast and crew at Echuca Moama Theatre Company are ready to take on the challenge of a cultclassic in modern day cinema Shrek The Musical Everybody’s favourite ogre and his motley crew can be seen at Paramount Theatre over two massive weekends from Friday, May 26 to Sunday, May 28 and Friday, June 2 to Sunday, June 4.

Directing such a large production takes a village, or in this case, a triad.

Mark Thomson, Darcy Elliott and Tamara Cadd are EMTC stalwarts and co-directors of Shrek The Musical Mark said the show would wow both adults and children.

“There’s a lot of interesting bits in the script fairytale characters for the kids, humour that adults will understand,” he said.

“The storyline is similar to the first movie, but the music slightly differs. They’re real catchy tunes.” As for the set designs, it’s more than just a ‘nice boulder’.

“It’s a mixture of projections, sets on stage, amazing costumes, big dance numbers and lots of comedy.”

Shrek The Musical will be the company’s first full performance since COVID-19, and Mark and the team have involved as many people as possible in the production.

“COVID was horrendous, it’s good to be back and getting the performers and community behind it,” he said.

“We’ve had people audition from Bendigo, Shepparton, Kyabram, Echuca-Moama and Rochester.

“People get to do a bit of everything, both song and dance.

“We have great choreographers and separate sequences for only dancers to showcase them doing their thing.”

Shrek The Musical is a big business undertaking and Mark is looking forward to the time that hard work is paid off, crowds are entertained and he can sit back and say, ‘that’ll do, Donkey, that’ll do’. When tickets go on sale, you better run, run, run as fast as you can because this show is not one to be missed.

Keep an eye out on the EMTC’s social media for more information and ticket release details.

Run, Cohuna, run!

THE ANNUAL COHUNA BRIDGE TO BRIDGE RETURNS IN MARCH TO CELEBRATE 30 YEARS OF TRAIL RUNS AND FAMILY FUN IN SUPPORT OF A GOOD CAUSE.

March 5 | Echuca
43 What’s On

This year’s Cohuna Bridge to Bridge will be held on Sunday, March 5, with participants from across Victoria and interstate competing in a variety of events during the day.

Continuing on from previous years’ success, there will be several run, walk or cycle options for all — regardless of age or ability.

Participants can opt for a half marathon (21.1 km), 12.5 km run or walk, 50 km cycle or 25 km cycle on a flat non-technical trail through the beautiful Gunbower Forest.

The 1 km Kids K and 6.5 km junior cycle is available for children wanting to be actively involved in the race day spirit.

There are also activities and entertainment at the event village, located in Apex Park.

While waiting to cheer family members or friends across the line, enjoy the live music, grab a bite from one of the food trucks and have a browse through the market stalls.

Event director Kirstin Nicholson is excited to commemorate the past 30 years with a nostalgic reflection on where it all began.

“We’re inviting the original instigators of the Bridge to Bridge, they’re all local and big supporters of the event since its inception,” she said.

“We’ve also asked people for photos of previous events, for us to organise a photo board of memorabilia to look at.

“Hopefully next year there’ll be a published book including this year’s event to commemorate the 30-year milestone.“

All proceeds from the event are donated to Cohuna District Hospital.

“We’ve been roughly hitting the $18,000 mark each year,” Kirstin said.

Model planes take flight

Calling all wingmen and women the Annual Fun Fly event is fast approaching, with dates locked in on April 15 and 16 for an incredible weekend in the sky.

The VMAA Flying Field on Watson Rd, Kanyapella is once again hosting the runway for the model planes.

Echuca Moama Model Aero Club secretary and treasurer Fred West said pilots from across Victoria could look forward to a jam-packed weekend of aircraft, camping and community.

“Pilots and spectators can see us fly many different types of model aeroplanes aerobatic, jets and helicopters,” Fred said.

“All kinds of model aircraft are welcome.”

Pilots can make use of the camping facilities onsite so they don’t miss a minute of the action. There’ll also be refreshments available, with a canteen, coffee and tea onsite.

Fred said the event wasn’t exclusively for owners of aircraft it could be enjoyed by families of the pilots, as well as other spectators.

“It’s good to see people like me enjoy the sport and the camaraderie.”

Pilot entry fee is $10 and free entry for spectators. For more information or inquiries, head to www.emmac.com.au/en/2020funfly or phone Fred West on 0418 362 100.

Take me home to Yallarah

Wel.Co’s latest master-planned development, Yallarah, is a nod to the town of Echuca’s pristine history, complemented with contemporary modern flare.

Spanning 200 hectares, the residential plot will be a nature lover’s dream with 26 ha of open space, including an extensive walking and cycling network among the blooming nature that encompasses the area.

Home and land sales in the area have been scarce, but now Yallarah is about to become one of the largest residential developments in the area.

“We’re thrilled to have the Precinct Structure Plan for Yallarah gazetted by the State Government, formalising the rezoning of our site from Farming Zone to a General Residential Zone,” Wel.Co founder and managing director Andrew Welsh said.

“With the PSP now approved and a number of buyers already choosing to call Yallarah home from early releases, you will see construction commencing shortly.

“Our 2000-plus master-planned community has been carefully curated to embrace its natural

surrounds with native parks and over 25 shared community spaces set to be delivered.”

Unlike its city counterparts, Echuca boasts a lifestyle centred on its natural beauty.

Take advantage of the Murray River on your doorstep and take part in a variety of water pastimes, or simply sit back and enjoy the picturesque backdrop to the activities.

No need to race from one side of town to another the centre of Echuca is a convenient slice of shoppers’ paradise.

A mix of contemporary shop fronts and historic buildings appease the eyes on the outside, and on the inside lies plenty of clothing, accessories and décor to dazzle your new home.

Foodies rejoice! Echuca is thriving with a vibrant food scene showcasing the local produce and growers.

From brunch to drinks, any occasion can warrant a trip to a local or nearby winery, brewery, restaurant or cafe.

Yallarah itself is only minutes from the town centre, Echuca Twin Rivers School and the newly opened Woolworths.

“Yallarah is perfectly positioned so our future residents will be able to enjoy both the natural environment and thriving community of Echuca,” Andrew said.

Blocks at Yallarah in Echuca are now selling from $245,000.

METHANOL-FUELLED, BIG BLOCK V8-POWERED SUPER SEDANS WILL CONVERGE ON MOAMA’S HEARTLAND RACEWAY ON APRIL 8 AND 9 FOR THE ANNUAL NORTH SOUTH 50 SUPER SEDANS VICTORIA TITLE.

Would you like to host your own show? We are always looking for new volunteers. Go on give us a call (03) 5480 2085.

Some of the country’s best sedan racers will feature at this year’s event, set to battle it out on Heartland’s iconic 510-metre track for the ‘north versus south’ clash.

Attracting teams from all over the country, a full field of around 50 cars are expected to make the pilgrimage to Moama for two days of high octane fun. The Easter weekend event marks the return of the North South 50 to Heartland Raceway for the second consecutive year.

“Last year was a huge success,” raceway owner and venue manager David Roberts said.

“We had competitors from Tasmania, Queensland, NSW and South Australia.

“Our aim is to increase the size and reach of the event every year we’re working to make it bigger each time.”

With a highly competitive field always on hand given the central location of Heartland, local racers Lucas Roberts, Dave MacKenzie and Ash

Bergmeier are expected to put up a strong fight on their home track this year.

Defending title holder, Mick Nicola Jr, is expected to return to try and retain his glory, and also make a play for the prize purse on offer after walking away last year with a sweet $5600 win.

With Australian number one Matty Pascoe also tipped to make an appearance, David stressed that if you’re going to watch one speedway event this year, North South 50 should be it.

“This event is not to be missed if you’re a follower of speedway,” he said.

“That’s the feel around the country, at the moment this event is red-hot.”

More than 5000 people are expected to come through the raceway gates across the weekend, David said.

Whether you are a seasoned race fan or just wondering what all the fuss is about, make a night or two of excitement with world-class motorsport racing at Heartland Raceway this April.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for pensioners, $15 for youths (12 to 16 years) and $5 for children (five to 11 years).

65 What’s On

A trip to this iconic family friendly destination has become a tradition that has been passed down the generations, just like the family of Echuca Moama Tourism deputy chair Jason Clymo.

“I know before I moved here I was one of those people, with my family holidaying here for 30 years before we moved here we came every single year,” Jason said.

“There is something really special going on in Echuca-Moama which brings people back.

“It reminds them of all the amazing reasons why EchucaMoama and surrounds is a brilliant place to visit.

“A lot of people would call it their favourite place to

visit, there is heaps going on in Echuca-Moama and the surrounding towns in autumn.”

Around the town the Easter Bunny will be popping his head up at the annual LJ Hooker Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday.

On Easter Saturday you will find all the usual stalls with pre-loved books, preserves and craft from the Wool and Craft group at the Echuca Moama Uniting Church makers’ market.

The Echuca-Moama market will be on Easter Sunday, with a giant array of farm-picked fresh produce, craft and homemade goods.

For the sports-loving family, the Echuca

Lawn Tennis Club will hold its annual Easter Tournament.

Teams of mixed doubles, doubles and singles will compete in this round robin event over the Easter long weekend.

Or drive just down the road where the Kyabram Lawn Tennis Club is also holding its famous Easter Tournament over the weekend.

Echuca Harness Racing Club will host the annual Easter Sunday meet, with a giant Easter egg hunt and kids’ activities to keep the little ones entertained while you enjoy your time at the track. To really immerse yourself in the action, make sure

to check out the local footy with Echuca United and Moama going head-to-head in their annual Easter clash at Echuca South Recreation Reserve on Good Friday.

A little further afield from Echuca-Moama and worth the drive there are many free family-friendly events two of which are on the following pages. For those after a bargain, the Girgarre Farmers’ Produce and Craft Market and the Stanhope Monster Garage Sale are both on Easter Sunday. Of all the events in autumn in Echuca-Moama, Jason is especially looking forward to the Southern 80 waterski race and the Wedding and Events Festival.

“We have a real breadth of different types of events and things you can do here on a weekend or weekday stay in autumn,” he said.

“There are actually a lot of things to do that would appeal to everyone; something to interest everyone.”

67 What’s On

Rush to this Easter festival

A town-wide celebration of yesteryear, the event showcases local arts, skills and businesses, and promotes a rural way of life.

Being one of the most impressive main streets in rural Victoria, Rushworth has retained its original charm, which is why it is the ideal place to host a heritage festival.

It is expected this year’s Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival will host more than 75 market stalls on the main street’s historic median strip. The community is encouraged to take part in the event by making an Easter bonnet for the 10 am competition, to try and take out the ‘best in show’ in either the children or adult categories.

The Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival is for everyone, with four-legged family members included as well.

You can dress up your dog or just bring them along to show off their cuteness for the 11 am dog show.

At 1 pm the highlight of the day will be the annual street parade of vintage and historical vehicles that are steam, petrol, people or horse-powered. All through the day many of the parade participants will be available to demonstrate their heritage skills and the way life once was.

Everyone is invited to this free family fun day, which is well worth the drive to this historical gold and ironbark town.

The Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival runs from 8 am to 1 pm on Saturday, April 8 in High St, Rushworth.

All the fun of the fair

Following on from the 2022 Easter Fair, the most successful event in the town’s history, this year’s fair will be full of free things to keep the children entertained.

This will include temporary tattoos, face painting, amusements and novelty races.

The kids can take part in a tug of war, sack races or the Easter favourite the egg and spoon race.

To help fund the event, the Mathoura Events Committee will have refreshments for sale, a show bag stall and raffle.

The Mathoura RFS has been invited to run the barbecue, with sausage sizzle funds going to the unit. Once again, the popular tug of war contest will be held, with a chance of the prize money being up on the 2022 amount.

Mathoura Events Committee president John Cavanagh was hoping more locals and people

from further away would enter teams in 2023, to make the tug of war even bigger.

“The tug of war attracts some of the strongest people we have in the area, as well as many visitors to our town,” he said.

“It is a very popular part of the Mathoura Easter Fair. “We are looking forward to providing a fun day for all the family and welcoming everyone to our town.”

The 2022 tug of war was won by Matt Vesty Earthmoving in a tight battle against River Boy Conrad.

Held in the Soldiers Memorial Gardens, Mathoura, the Easter Fair runs from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, April 8.
