argherita was born in Venice, the child of Amedeo Grassini and Emma Levi (whose relative Giuseppe Levi was the father of Natalia Ginzburg). Amedeo was a wealthy Jewish attorney and businessman. He was a financial attorney for the Venetian government and a friend of Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, later on, Pope Pius X.
