A

nimal rights crime figures continue to tumble.

For the 7th straight year, animal rights crime figures are lower than the previous year. Statistics

show that not only are crimes continuing to fall but that 2014 returned the fewest number of crimes for over 12 years. Crimes targeting all animal-using industries, whilst falling, remain consistent unlike the drastic reductions. Of the 33 crimes targeting the fur industry last year 25 were in Europe, 6 in the Americas, 1 in Eurasia and 1 in a nonmember country.

The figures in black are those targeting all animal use and the figures in red represent those against the fur industry.

Hellenic Fur Federation set up Youth Council

H

ellenic Fur Federation is aiming to bring young furriers

to the forefront of their work and have elected a Council of Young Furriers. The new Members of the

Board of the Hellenic Fur Federation (HFF) chose the new representatives for the Young Furriers of the International Fur Federation (IFF) through an open process call. This initiative has been met with great interest from young furriers in Greece. Those elected to the Council of Young Furriers of HFF will actively participate in the IFF’s Fur Futures group, which supports the next generation of people working with fur around the world. This strategic choice is a priority of the new

Board of HFF, in order to promote young furriers participation and the future of our industry.

Beijing airport embrace the FurNow campaign

F

rom 9-22 January 2015, Beijing airport displayed the FurNow video on all

of their TV screens, to coincide with arrivals for Beijing International Fur Fair. Playing 45 times a day, the opportunity gained huge exposure for the

campaign and was made possible thanks to the effort of Madam Deng Xiaolan and Air Media Group. The total advertisement value was around 1 million RMB and was seen by 230,000 passengers every day. Beijing Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world.

Meetings with Inuit-sealing stakeholders

B

etween the 8th and the 15th of January a delegation

from Denmark, Greenland and IFF travelled to Canada and met with Inuit-sealing stakeholder

groups. Meetings in Ottawa were facilitated by David Hutton from Fur Institute Canada including with Minister for Environment Leona Aqlukkaq and several representatives from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The delegation then travelled far North to the territory of Nunavut meeting the local Ministries for Environment and Economic Development, local hunters/trappers and Inuit organizations there. There was also significant outreach to the media with the delegation giving local television and

radio interviews. The delegation secured widespread support for an Inuit campaign under the organization Inuit Sila to Europe this year to promote market access for Inuit pelts. This organization and its events are intended to create an independently pan-Inuit and pro-animal-use voice that can be heard by decision-makers in Europe, especially on the topic of seals.

n 14 January 2015, the Beijing Pine Valley Opera House hosted the

first ever iLux Awards ceremony, sponsored by Kopenhagen Fur. Dubbed “the Oscars” of the fur trade, the Holly Awards are the first

international prizes in the Chinese fur industry. The ceremony in January was the climax of a meticulous selection and judging process that lasted 12 months and assessed more than 70 candidates.

REMIX 2015

T

he 12 finalists have now been selected and national

associations and applicants have been contacted for REMIX, the international fur design competition

organised by IFF. After a three-month selection process involving 44 delegations worldwide, the finalists are invited to the Pelota in Milan for the REMIX grand finale on 4th March 2015, where the final judging will take place based on a runway presentation. Each designer will show three looks that include fur garments and accessories as well as other non-fur items so that fur is seen in a holistic, natural context. The quality of young talent showcased at REMIX year after year is extraordinary as participants push the boundaries and re-invent this most versatile of materials. Since its inception in 2003, REMIX has inspired, encouraged and supported more than 500 talented individuals, some of whom have started careers with leading international brands. Alexander Kantz, the winner of the 2012 edition, is currently working with the Swedish giant H&M, Lucy Upsher has worked for Roberto Cavalli, Bud Adji is a designer for Hugo Boss knitwear and Sally Bohan collaborates with Abercrombie & Fitch.

Board & Council meetings

T

he Council of the IFF met during Sunday 8 February at

the premises of Kopenhagen Fur in Glostrup. 81 people attended from 29 countries and members contributed

to a wide range of subjects throughout the council meeting.The Board and several important other meetings took place throughout the Friday and Saturday, which was not only a weekend but also immediately prior to Kopenhagen Fur’s February auction. The IFF would like to thank Kopenhagen Fur for their support. The AGM/Council meetings are scheduled to take place in Helsinki at Saga Furs’ auction house on 16-17 September.

Dubai apre le sue porte all’industria della pelle

Approfittando di questo mercato in espansione, Epoc Messe Frankfurt, uno dei maggiori organizzatori di fiere al mondo, ha deciso di inaugurare una nuova manifestazione a Dubai: la prima edizione di Leatherworld Middle East si terrà il prossimo Maggio 2015 (dal 4 al 6) al Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center. Sarà la prima ed unica fiera organizzata in Medio Oriente ad essere completamente dedicata all’intera linea produttiva dell’industria della pelle. L’industria del cuoio si riunisce a IDF - Istanbul Leather Fair

368 aziende espositrici provenienti da oltre 35 Paesi, hanno partecipato alla 9° edizione della Istanbul Leather Fair, ospitata dal TÜYAP Fair, Congress and Convention Center di Istanbul, Turchia. Un’importante manifestazione che dal 18 al 20 novembre 2014 ha riunito i maggiori produttori di cuoio, abbigliamento, macchinari, accessori e aziende chimiche di fama internazionale, per presentare i più innovativi prodotti in ambito di design e tecnologia. 368 exhibiting companies from over 35 countries attended the 9th edition of the Istanbul Leather Fair, hosted by TÜYAP Fair, Congress and Convention Center in Istanbul, Turkey. China Fur & Leather Products Fair 2015 in Beijing

Dal 13 al 16 gennaio 2015, nel National Convention Center di Pechino, ha avuto luogo la 41° edizione della China Fur and Leather Products Fair, patrocinata da China Native Produce and Animal By-Products Import and Export Corporation e Sunry Advertising and Exhibition Co. Ltd. Una tra le fiere più autorevoli nel settore della pelliccia che ha riunito 280 espositori, oltre a tutte le maggiori associazioni quali IFF, Kopenhagen Fur, SAGA Fur, NAFA e American Legend Fur Auction. Durante i quattro giorni della manifestazione, è stato raggiunto l’obiettivo di creare una piattaforma interattiva che potesse mostrare al mondo l’industria della pellicceria cinese ed evidenziare i brand locali, mettendo in luce le ultime tendenze del settore. Oltre 25.300 persone hanno visitato i 30.000 metri quadrati della fiera, confermando ancora una volta il grande successo internazionale dell’evento. The past January 13th -16th the National Convention Center in Beijing hosted the 41st China Fur and Leather Products Fair by China Native Produce and Animal By-Products Import and Export Corporation, Sunry Advertising and Exhibition Co., Ltd. One of the most authoritative professional exhibition in the fur industry has gathered 280 famous fur exhibitors as well as top fur associations and suppliers, including IFF, Kopenhagen Fur, SAGA Fur, NAFA and American Legend Fur Auction. During 4 days the exhibition, there were around 25300 visitors who came to visit the 30,000 square meters fair as a confirmation of the big success of the show. In same period the 11th NAFA Cup China International Youth Fur Fashion Design Competition has taken place, the contest themed in “Fantasy journey” attracted more than 1,000 competitors from nearly 80 institutions nationwide. The China Fur Development forum has opened on the 13th January, it brought together the most authoritative institutions and representatives from international and Chinese fur industry. The international business elites from the ”non fur” field were also invited, with 5 sub topics of the forum, to carry on analysis and discussion on the current hot issues faced by the international fur industry from different perspectives. Le Show Moscow si sta preparando ad una nuova edizione di grande successo

La 18ima edizione di Le Show Moscow si terrà il prossimo Marzo 2015 (dal 12 al 14) all’Expocenter Fairground. Le Show è diventato, nel corso degli anni, uno degli appuntamenti fieristici più importanti: si tratta infatti della fiera di settore più grande e più completa tra quelle che si tengono in Russia, un evento in grado di presentare una grande varierà di prodotti e collezioni, di proporre le ultime tendenze nell’ambito dell’industria della pelle e della pelliccia, e di attrarre molti professionisti ed esperti. Per tutte queste ragioni, Le Show Moscow è diventata sinonimo di successo. L’edizione precedente si è tenuta nel marzo 2014 ed ha avuto molto successo: 185 espositori arrivati da 7 paesi (Repubblica Popolare Cinese, Francia, Australia, Italia, Pakistan, Federazione Russa e Turchia) e 10.000 operatori del settore provenienti da tutto il mondo hanno partecipato all’evento. Secondo i dati raccolti durante l’ultima edizione, la grande maggioranza dei visitatori (87,38%) ha partecipato alla fiera per motivi di tipo professionale; più della metà dei presenti ha avuto la possibilità di comprare. Le Show Moscow is planning a new successful edition The 18th edition of Le Show Moscow will take place next May 2015 (12-14) at the Expocenter Fairground. The exhibition has gained a lot of renown over the years: it’s Russia’s most comprehensive and largest professional trade show, able to provide a wide range of products and collections, to present all the latest trends in the fur and leather industries and to draw a lot of professionals. For all these reasons, Le Show Moscow has become synonymous with success. The previous edition (held in May 2014) was extremely successful: it was attended by 185 exhibitors from 7 different countries (People’s Republic of China, France, Australia, Italy, Pakistan, Russian Federation and Turkey) and was visited by 10,000 professionals coming from all over the world. Si è tenuta a Milano il novembre scorso la 7° edizione del Festival della Moda Russa. L’evento è stato organizzato da Società Italia, con il patrocinio di Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, di Sistema Moda Italia - Federazione Tessile e Moda italiana e di Soyuzlegprom - Unione russa degli imprenditori del tessile e dell‘industria leggera. Tra gli obiettivi, offrire una panoramica della moda e delle tendenze dei Paesi dell’ex URSS nonchè favorire l’opportunità di entrare in contatto con il mercato italiano, attraverso produttori, showroom, buyer delle migliori boutique e stampa internazionale. The 7th edition of the Russian Fashion Festival was held in Milan last November. The event was organized by Società Italia, with the sponsorship of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, Sistema Moda Italia – Textile and Italian Fashion Federation and Soyuzlegprom - Russian Union of Textile and Light Industry Entrepreneurs. The initiative aimed, among other targets, at providing a fashion and trends overview of the countries of the former USSR as well as foster the opportunity to get in touch with the Italian market, through manufacturers, showrooms, buyers of the best boutiques and international press. The event, which featured a guest of honor, Anna Molinari, was attended by 15 talented young fashion designers from Russia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Ukraine and carefully selected by Società Italia. Sasha Kanevski with sasha. kanevski was rewarded as the best “International Promise”, while the Kazakh woman Ainur Turisbek won the “Original Design” prize and the Uzbek Zulfiya Sulton the “Tailoring Quality” one. MM&T ospiterà la prima Global Retail Footwear Conference

La prossima edizione di APLF MM&T (Materials, Manufacturing & Technology) si terrà dal 30 Marzo al 1 Aprile presso l’Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Stando ai primi dati, gli organizzatori prevedono la presenza di circa 1.200 espositori e di quasi 19.000 buyer. Come da tradizione, la fiera fornirà delle occasioni di incontro tra espositori e visitatori, permettendo loro di rinsaldare contratti e accordi, di fare nuove conoscenze e di discutere della situazione attuale del loro settore. Insieme all’esposizione, gli organizzatori hanno preparato un programma ricco di attività, tra cui i Best of APLF Awards, la Sourcing Luxury (una zona dedicata a materiali e componenti preziosi ed esotici) e conferenze riguardanti una grande varietà di argomenti. The next edition of APLF MM&T (Materials Manufacturing & Technology) will take place from March 30th to April 1st 2015 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. According to the first data, the organizers are expecting approximately 1,200 exhibitors and almost 19,000 buyers. The exhibition will once again provide an important networking opportunity, allowing buyers and exhibitors to strengthen deals and agreements, to make new contacts and to exchange opinions about the current situation of the sector. Alongside the main exhibition, the program of the event is filled with various activities, including the Best of APLF awards, the Sourcing Luxury (a display of luxury and exotic materials and components) and a series of presentations on a wide range of topics.
