MANLY WOMEN'S BOWLING

2021 began very positively when we returned to bowls in January after the Christmas Covid lockdown. No-one could have imagined how everything would change so dramatically within 6 months. Our club is so lucky to have such a friendly, supportive membership group that has remained strong and connected through these difficult times.

In February Maria Lind, our 2020 Singles Champion competed in the NSW Champion of Club Champions Singles at Asquith Bowling Club. In March, Annie BowenOld and Sally Hammerton, the winners of our Pairs Championship represented our club at the NSW Champion of Club Champions Pairs at Club Merrylands. We thank the Mounties for their support of our players in these extremely competitive events. At this stage the 2021 events have been postponed to November, but we will have to wait to see if they eventuate. Fortunately, we were able to complete our Major Singles Championships early in 2021 and then our Pairs Championship immediately after Pennants. Since late in June, with the Delta strain in Sydney, we have been in lockdown and disappointedly no bowling for anyone. We are hopeful some of our remaining Club Championship events can be completed this year. After the disappointment of the 2020 season, everyone was excited to begin Pennants. The club entered four teams, one in each grade (one of only 2 clubs in our district to do so), in the Manly-Warringah District Pennant Competition. Thank you to Mounties for opening the club earlier to allow us to play home and away games. Next year we hope for a less disrupted season which will enable us to have our training sessions once again and thus be more competitive. In May our club held a Special General Meeting to vote on the unification of WBNSW and BNSW. The ladies voted unanimously in favour of unification. The overall result announced at the NSW Special General Meeting was also in favour. We look forward to seeing our sport strengthen and grow under the new entity, Bowls New South Wales Limited. Our AGM, due to be held in early August, has been postponed but we are ready to go as soon as restrictions for our club are lifted.

A special thank you to Jenny McNevin who has worked tirelessly to help our club with planning and organizing so much this past year. Also, a thank you to Simon and the staff at Manly Bowling Club who have been so helpful and supportive, especially throughout the Pennants season. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
