One of the best ways best ways to do this is by inquiry-based learning through play, providing learning opportunities at every turn. By immersing children into hands-on activities and using real world connections, we can provide a deeper understanding of how things work. How letters work together to form words, how numbers represent quantity and writing is a written way to express ourselves. Practicing guidance (as opposed to discipline) and positive reinforcement builds confidence and independence in little learners. Gently guiding them to draw their own conclusions and fostering critical thinking skills, promoting healthy self-reliant children. Most importantly, it’s important to keep that window of

It is the second most common cancer in women, except for skin cancer. Breast Cancer begins in breast tissue which is made of glands for milk. The remainder is made up of fatty and lymphatic tissue. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, accounting for nearly one in every three cancers diagnosed. All women are at risk of getting breast cancer. As age

Other risk factors include late menopause, family history of breast cancer, diets high in saturated fats, no pregnancy, estrogen replacement therapy and obesity. Mammogram is the best method to detect breast cancer at an early stage when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. Having regular mammograms can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer. Women aged 40 years or older should have a mammogram every two years.

SOME RISK FACTORS FOR BREAST CANCER ARE NOT EASY TO CHANGE, LIKE BEING FEMALE AND YOUR AGE, BUT THERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO THAT MAY HELP REDUCE YOUR RISK OF BREAST CANCER. Maintain a healthy body weight: being overweight or obese increases the risk of developing breast cancer, particularly for women who have been through menopause. Be physically active: regular exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight. Research suggests that vigorous exercise when you are young might provide lifelong protection against breast cancer and that even moderate physical activity as an adult can lower your risk of developing breast cancer. Don’t smoke: there is no clear link between smoking and breast cancer, but toxins from cigarettes have been found in breast cells. As smoking is a major cause of heart disease, lung cancer and many other cancers, not smoking is always a smart health choice.

COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS It is a well-known fact that early intervention by members of the public, before the arrival of an ambulance or medical professional, significantly improves the casualty’s outcome, however, a recent study found that 7 out of 10 people living in Bahrain do not know what they should do to help or know how to perform skills such us CPR. Royal Life Saving Bahrain has developed a number of community-based workshops to give members of the public the knowledge, skills, and most importantly, confidence to help in a number of emergency situations. INTRODUCING

Sports

TO LITTLE ONES Some kids naturally love sports. They are kicking a ball as soon as they can stand; running and cartwheeling with boundless energy.

INTRODUCING SPORTS

Others? Not so much. Maybe they are reluctant to try new things, or they just can t find something they enjoy. So, how do you get little ones active, instilling a healthy lifestyle early and helping them to find that sport they love enough to continue through to their teenage and adult years?

30

For preschoolers, the most important thing is being active, socialising and having a positive experience. Most places offer a trial class, so always take advantage of the opportunity to test the waters before committing. If they haven’t shown much interest in any activity so far, multi-sport programs are a great place to start. These programs usually rotate through different sports, giving kids a chance to try a range of activities

throughout the term. Even though you might want them to stick at something and start to develop skills, at this age there’s nothing wrong with trying one activity one term and something totally different the next! Kids might go through a range of sports before they find the one that is for them, and that’s OK! Once they reach primary age, kids can start junior team sports. At this age, its still all about having fun and having a go. For those that aren’t interested in team sports, there’s plenty of other options for primary kids, from rock climbing to trampolining and acrobatics. Check below for some of our favourite activity programs for pre-schoolers and primary-aged kids across the island!
