DAYS 4–5 I P ACUARE RIVER/ARENAL VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK Enjoy a white-water rafting excursion, or depart for the northern highlands after breakfast, allowing for an evening at leisure in Arenal Volcano National Park. The following day, traverse hanging bridges on a guided canopy walk, and go for a swim at La Fortuna Waterfall. DAYS 1–3 I S AN JOSÉ, COSTA RICA/ PACUARE RIVER After an evening at leisure in San José, venture to your lodge, accessible only via the Pacuare River. Arrive by raft or by 4x4 vehicle and hanging gondola. Join a bird-watching walk, then go zip-lining or hike through the jungle to a typical Cabécar rancho (thatched house). DAYS 6–9 I OSA PENINSULA Fly to the Osa Peninsula and settle into your lodge, enjoying spectacular views of the shimmering waters where the Pacific Ocean meets the Golfo Dulce from your bungalow. Explore the region’s biodiversity on a variety of naturalist-led excursions. Discover marine life in a neighboring tropical fjord; seek out white-faced capuchin monkeys, poison dart frogs, sloths, and birds on day and nighttime hikes through lush rainforest; and learn about the lodge’s innovative sustainability efforts.
