introduction Table of Contents
Hello, hello! Welcome to the first edition of the University of Nevada, Reno Circle K Newsletter. This newsletter will be published on a monthly basis and will provide you with information on our club, past and upcoming events, as well as Circle K International. This newsletter is called “The Full Moon.” Why? Because a full moon happens each month, just like this newsletter’s publication! Pretty clever; thank you to Aldrin Santamaria for the idea. This newsletter is made by the technology committee, but it is not limited to just us! Please feel free to contribute to this newsletter in any way you see fit. We will be accepting articles, pictures, and all ideas that you may have. See page 4 for more information on submissions. This newsletter has an abundance of information in it and it is here to serve as a resource for you! Please read through it in your free time, check out some photos of our events, and immerse yourself in the spirit of Circle K while outside of meetings and events. Also, if someone ever asks you, “What do you do in Circle K?” you can show them this newsletter as a summation! I would like to thank everyone that has helped put this first newsletter together.

past events In Circle K, we have a variety of service events! From working at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, to tutoring local high school students, we have a lot to offer our community. Check out some of these past events to see what we are all about! Hug High School Tutoring: “Throughout October, we visited Hug High School to tutor students for their upcoming proficiencies. We mostly helped them prepare for their math proficiency, but occasionally helped with reading or science. The most rewarding aspect of this event by far was seeing the students learn how to solve problems that they were unfamiliar with. Seeing the students experience that, “Oh!” moment and then solve the problem with ease felt extremely rewarding. I am confident that our efforts really helped these students prepare for their proficiencies, and highly suggest other members to attend future tutoring events if we have any!” - Matthew Molloy Urban Roots is a monthly volunteer event that our club participates in. Check it out on the first Saturday of every month! Some pictures of past times at Urban Roots are on the left.
Food Bank of Northern Nevada:
Run for Education:
“The Food Bank is a regional food distribution center that reaches out to the needy, the ill, the elderly, and children. Delivering food to many individuals in need, the Food Bank is one of the nation’s most well-known, charity organizations. Our Circle K members attended the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, where we participated in our monthly trip to provide service in the warehouse food distribution. This month we packaged oranges into bags that would later be distributed to those in need around Nevada. Our members got hands-on experience packing fruit and interacted with one another bonding over the “fruits of our labor”. Personally, I felt this project was very successful and allowed our members to connect through service and fellowship, while learning a simple life skill. Our club should continue to participate in this project as it allows our members to gain an appreciation for food and helping those in need.” - Cody Yamada This event happens on the
“On November 3rd, 2013, we went to the Legends in Sparks to volunteer for the Run for Education. This event raised money for students in the Washoe County School District. There was a 10K, 5K, and fun activities for both children and parents. We were teaming up with local Kiwanians to create a bike rodeo! We fitted kids for helmets, gave them a demonstration about the ABC’s of checking a bike (Air, Brakes, and Chain), let them ride a bike though a mini obstacle course, and entered them into a raffle. Out of 150 kids who visited the bike rodeo, eight of them will be receiving a bike for free. I enjoyed this event because I could see in the kids’ faces how much fun they were having. As a person who enjoys working with kids, my favorite part of the event was seeing how intently some kids would listen to us when we taught them about bike and helmet safety. Knowing that everything we did was going to go back to these kids made this volunteering experience worthwhile.” - Christine Bonuel
first Thursday of every month so be sure to look out for it in the future!

our three tenets
SERVICE
As one of the three tenets, service is the fundamental element of Circle K International. Collectively, Circle K members perform more than one million hours of service on their campuses and in their communities annually. Without service, Circle K International would be just another campus activity. Through service, college students are making the world a better place one service project at a time. Together, Circle K'ers truly make a difference in the community.
LEADERSHIP Through the mission and vision of the organization, Circle K International is dedicated to the realization of humankind’s potential. The potential of Circle K International lies in its ability to positively influence members of society who are facing ultimate personal decisions and those who will one day create the vision of mankind for generations to come. Leadership opportunities afford Circle K members the resources and tools needed to become active citizens. Circle K’ers can assume leadership responsibilities at all levels of the organization and through various experiential training conferences while actively contributing to the running of their respective clubs, divisions, and communities. The unique experiences offered by Circle K truly develop and bring out the leader within each individual.
FELLOWSHIP If there is one thing that Circle K’ers know best, it is fellowship. Whether they are planning a car wash, visiting shut-ins, reading to three-year-olds or conducting business, Circle K members across the globe take time to meet and welcome new people. With each element and aspect of Circle K International, members experience genuine fellowship and develop life-long relationships with fellow collegians, advisors, Kiwanians and citizens in their communities. Whether a Circle K’er is mentoring a child, networking with a businessman, or bowling with members, that Circle K’er is developing social skills, meeting new people, creating meaningful friendships, and strengthening relationships. 6
