The Full Moon Newsletter Issue II Volume III November 1, 2015 1

A Message from the Jedi: Greetings padawaans and welcome to the November issue of “The Full Moon.” This action-packed newsletter consists of tons of things that our club was able to accomplish for the good of ourselves and the community throughout the month of October. Despite much struggle and conflict to reach this point of the semester, the journey has barely just begun. There will be a lot more duels with procrastination, battles against sleep, and plot twists with no climax in sight. Fear not, because no matter how difficult your responsibilities and obligations get, you are here for a reason and have proved yourself enough to make it this far in the journey. Awaken the force within you and make this semester your best semester and do not lose sight of what is truly important. I hope you take some time to thoroughly enjoy this newsletter and continue your valuable service to others with Nevada Circle K, thanks for reading!

A Message from the Sith: It's November, and you know what that means right? Service, New Member Installation, Thanksgiving Break, Midterms, and MORE SERVICE! As the semester begins to wind down and finals slowly approach, remember to take time to relax with Circle K through socials, service events, family outings, and more! I am trying really hard to work in a Star Wars pun but I don't think it'll happen. So, have a great November with Circle K everyone! May the force be with y'all.

Even though it may feel like your journey with Circle K started just yesterday, chances are you have probably been apart of our club longer than you think! At this red carpet themed ceremony, new members will be officially welcomed into the club with a day full of food, friends, and fun. This semi-formal event will also contain various other shenanigans, such as a large raffle and this year’s club video produced by our very own tech chair Tyler Galvez. But wait, there’s more! At the conclusion of the meeting, we will be joined by our Capital buddies for the November DCM right here in Reno. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity!

When: November 15th from 11:00am to 5:00pm Where: Joe 4th Floor Ballrooms Theme: Red Carpet (Semi-formal Attire) Cost: Approximately $8.00

Reno Agility Trials On October 9th, 2015, a few members over two days went to Carson City to help with Dog Agility Trials. It was extremely cold that morning, but it warmed up. First we helped set up the obstacle courses for the first event of the morning. We were each assigned to fix any jumps that fell if the dogs jumped over and knocked them down. I was a leash runner, so I took the dogs’ leash and ran it to the end of the course so the owner would have it there instead of at the start. There were so many difference classes and levels of dogs. Throughout the day we would change the courses for the level of difficulty for the dogs. It was a very tiring day, but it was worth it because we go to see all these dogs and it was fun watching them run the courses!

Food Bank Recently, Circle K embarked on their monthly trip to Food Bank. I had never been to Food Bank before, and really wanted to try this straightforward looking event, so after a long drive to Fernley I was pretty excited to start helping. Our duties primarily consisted of sorting out canned and dried goods into various categories and determining whether or not they were still safe for consumption. However, what really caught me off guard was how much expired and bad canned foods actually were being separated from the small amount of good donations. Some of the highlights included canned wheat from 1991, canned peaches from 2004, and someone’s handmade jarred potatoes from 2006. Actually seeing how much behind the scenes effort has to go into getting food from food drives to the homeless people in our local communities was an interesting experience that I would definitely like to do again.

Meet Your 2015 - 2016 Board: Bunny Mo Hi, my name is Bunny Mo and I am the Social/Spirit Chair for the 2015-16 term! I

Spirit Chair

am a 2nd year majoring in Women’s Studies with a minor in Spanish and Chinese. In my free time, I enjoy reading, singing, the juicy things in life, and hanging out with my best friend, Victor. I am a huge fan of Michelle Obama, Nicki Minaj, and Beyoncé. If you ever need to find me, I’m either at the restaurant Süp or the Knowledge Center! A huge part of my life is dedicated to Circle K. At first, I was a little hesitant to join for a couple reasons. However, I knew how wrong I was when I realized how different—in a good way—it was. The service events were so much fun and the social events (e.g., Murder Mystery Night, FTC) were what kept me going back for more. But what I love the most is the people I have encountered and befriended in this organization. They have supported, accepted, and encouraged me to be the person I am today. As a board member, I wish to do the same for new and old members. And that’s what I love about Circle K..

Murder Mystery Night

Nevada Circle K’s Murder Mystery Nights have been an annual tradition of the club for a while now and the latest occurrence on October 23rd may have been one of the best ones yet! Bunny and Jeff worked very hard to provide a quality social with plenty of action. Families worked together throughout the night to interrogate other families, search for clues, and trash talk until the murderers were finally caught red handed. In addition to the intense mystery, intense amounts of food made Murder Mystery Night a night for the books. The De Le Mare Library also provided a rustic atmosphere to compliment the movie monsters themed bash. Overall, this event was very successful with a large turnout of over 70 people and I would highly recommend it to anyone trying to have a fun, action-packed night!

Article Submitted by Alex Baglione CKI 101 and Game Night On October 2nd, 2015, new members gathered at the Joe Crowley Student Union to learn more about what Circle K really is. At 7pm, the room was almost filled and Amie brought homemade brownies for the occasion. A few other older members brought other snacks and drinks as well. The event began and all the new members and even some old had their focus on Amie as she was explaining all the things a new member should know about Circle K. One of the most difficult things to remember when you’re new would have to be all the acronyms. There are a lot, and they all can be similar, like: DLSSP, LSSP, CLSSP and they all stand for basically the same thing with a bit of difference in who is getting in involved. Between the information being given, there were a couple questions and a couple prizes were given out. After all that information was spewed at the new members, Ashley gave a CERF workshop. To add some more fun to the event, there was a game night! gave a CERF workshop. To add some more fun to the event, there

Kiwanis Family Key 2 College Key 2 College was an awesome event chaired by our very own Mickey Rosal in which we got to teach our Key Clubbers about “college-ing”. Even though we had way fewer people than expected, we (as group leaders and workshop hosts), got one-on-one interaction with our Key Clubbers and were able to answer any and all questions they had about college in general. The day started with registration (and tons of Pop-Tarts) and then the Key Clubbers got to see a small presentation on campus life and how to get involved with the numerous clubs and organizations that UNR has to offer. Then they broke into small groups that were like a fraternity/sorority as the groups got to make their own “Greek organization” with Greek letters. They got to experience workshops covering all aspects of college life (dorm life, classes, health, finances, etc). We even made them do finger painting and a scavenger hunt around campus (and they enjoyed it!). All in all, it was a great experience seeing the Key Clubbers getting to know what college is really like and I hope to see some of their faces next year (and maybe next next year).

P.S. Mickey ordered tons of food and the best part of the whole event was that everyone got to binge on Little Caesars pizza.

K-Kids Tiffany Doan did an amazing job hosting K-Kids this month. October is Anti-bullying month and she incorporated many memorable lessons for the kids. It was very heartwarming to hear their various ways of stopping bullying. They drew adorable pictures of anti-bullying situations and some of our mentors got pretty creative as well. The kids are just as rowdy as last year, but still just as fun to be around. If you love working with kids, or want to learn how to get along with kids you should definitely attend this event at least once!

Capital Division October District Committee Meeting This DCM was a but different than others because it was more than just a DCM! It was a practice day for the following Sunday which was CKI North. We played multiple games like building a human triangle, getting our group through a hula hoop, and many other fun rounds. It was a really great time considering that our school wasn't able to go to CKI North this year and reclaim our spots as champions! The DCM itself was pretty awesome too! We had a cheer workshop and learned UC Davis' new cheer created by Melanie Wong and Nina Chu. Our very own, Johnathan De Guzman, was rewarded Eagle of the Month! We also learned when everyone else's NMIB and I look forward to going to as many as possible! Our next DCM is at our school after our NMIB, so be sure to go!!
