life strategy

Every organization, big or small, has a vision statement, which leads the way forward for people in the organization. It is the guiding light for everyone working with the organization, it is what every organization is rooted in. Everything else is worked out, planned, assigned and executed in alignment with this vision statement. While this approach is perfect, there is a missing link somewhere, which causes people to lose the motivation and desire to work towards the organization’s vision. It is not some rare happening which happens only once in a while, but rather, a common everyday occurrence, which is eventually responsible not only for low performance indices of employees, but also increasingly high stress levels in them. What is this missing link, the clue to the ever growing problem of stress, fatigue and lack of motivation in the corporate sector? The missing link is something very germane to the vision itself. Before a vision can move the people working with an organization to be innovative, inspired and sacrificing, it should first become an experience in the leaders articulating the vision! Something

Green Smoothies A green smoothie is simply 60% fruit and 40% leafy greens combined together in a high powered blender. The benefits of having raw fruits and vegetables are: you are not killing off the vital nutrients, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids (protein) and active enzymes. An active enzyme is basically a component of the food that starts to get broken down as you are chewing that releases all the digestive properties so your body can turn the food into nutrients! When food is cooked or heated, these live enzymes get destroyed. There is a method of eating based in Ayurveda called ‘Food Combining’ that suggests various food combinations for ideal digestion. For example, if your stomach is trying to break down a piece of fruit, which takes maximum one hour to digest, and a dosa, which could take 2-4 hours for full digestion, your stomach is forced to create different digestive acids to break down these foods, causing you to easily have an upset stomach or worse. The beauty of the green smoothie is also that it fits within the food combining method, because typically, you should always eat fruit alone, or not combine sweet and acid fruits etc., but eating non-starchy, alkaline vegetables (i.e.: leafy greens such as kale and spinach) is perfectly okey. The raw greens in green smoothies contain natural fiber which is crucial for digestion and elimination. The fiber slows down absorption of the natural sugar in the fruits as well. So for people with diabetes, candida, or hypoglycemia, drinking green smoothies is a possibility! Absorbing the vital nutrients such as Chlorophyll is critical to your body’s overall health and vitality, and not to mention greens are highly alkalizing.

PROCEDURE

The basic recipe for a green smoothie: (serving size: 1) Required: 1 Banana 1 cup of in season berries or other sweet fruit 2 cups of kale or spinach 1 cup clean water Blend all together until smooth, pour and en-joy! Some amazing variations can be made with: Mango, Pineapple, Cucumber, Coconut water and its pulp, Oranges, Papaya, Pears, Grapes, Ginger, and also freezing any of the fruits before blending for a cooler, summer smoothie! You can use any variety of greens: Kale, Spinach, Romaine Lettuce, Collard Greens, Dandelion Greens Swiss Chard, Parsley, Cilantro and many more. Be creative! The greener the better! The benefits of green smoothies are endless! But do your body a favor and start drinking up those vital nutrients so you can start Radiating Enlightenment through your yogic body and start your day the Vedic way.

Sati’s Question Once Devi Sati (the first human incarnation of Goddess Shakti) asked Lord Shiva – ‘You are the knower of all scriptures, you are worshiped by all, yet you meditate all day with closed eyes. Who is it you worship, who is the object of your devotion? ’ Lord Shiva replied that it is the one and only Shri Ram, in whose devotion he is lost. Sati asked, ‘Who is this Shri Ram who

when he took up the human form as Shri Ram. Even through all his trials and tribulations, he never forgot his original divine cosmic form, unlike Sati.

Lord Shiva replied: ‘How shall I tell you who is Shri Ram! His glory is endless, his virtues are infinite. He is the one who Yogis, munis (sages) and rishis of the world meditate upon, he is the lord of the whole universe. He is none other than Lord Vishnu who would take birth as a human being to destroy the demon king Ravana and free the world from his atrocities.’

Sati expressed the desire to see Shri Ram for herself. Lord Shiva gave her a glimpse of the life of Shri Ram which would happen in the future. Sati witnessed the scene of Ram killing the golden deer who was actually Marichh in disguise who had come to lure Shri Ram and Lakshmana away from their hut. Finding Sita alone, Ravana kidnapped her by trickery and deceit. Rama was devastated when he found Sita missing. He was struck with grief, and looked everywhere for Sita, tearfully asking every tree and shrub her whereabouts.

When Sati heard this, she casually remarked that Lord Vishnu and herself were not very different. Just as she is Aadishakti in the human form, so is Shri Ram the human incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Shiva however explained to Sati that there was a vast difference between them. Sati was not conscious of her divine self as Aadishakti, whereas Lord Vishnu was fully aware of his divinity

Seeing this scene, Sati expressed doubts about the divinity of Shri Ram. She could not agree that Shri Ram was the Lord God Himself in whom Lord Shiva had such intrinsic faith. To Sati, Ram looked like an ordinary man experiencing the ordinary joys and sufferings of human birth. How could Shri Ram be so disconsolate, when he could not find Sita? Sati was skeptical and wondered aloud.

is dearer to you than your wife?’

vedic renaissance to consider her as his wife thereafter.

Though Lord Shiva explained that this was the leela (divine play) of the Lord, Sati wanted to test it out for herself. Lord Shiva warned her against it. He told her, that God is beyond the realm of ordinary human logic. God cannot be tested by human beings using their logic and knowledge. He asked her to trust his word that Lord Ram is indeed divine. Sati however was not able get rid of her doubts, and decided that she would believe this only after testing Shri Ram. Without telling Shiva, she appeared before Shri Ram as Sita to test him. However, since he was a divine being, Shri Ram already knew that she was Sati and addressed her as ‘Ma’. Sati had not been able to deceive Lord Ram. Lord Shiva appeared at the scene and expressed his consternation at Sati attempting to test Sri Ram, and refused

This entire story shows how kutarka or negative logic leads to a person’s downfall. Though Sati was the human form of Aadishakti, her knowledge of her divine self was under a thick veil of ignorance and samskaras or engrams. She was unable to trust that Shri Ram could be God, because he looked and behaved like a normal human being. Because of her deep kutarka, she did not even believe Shiva, who she knows is God himself. She secretly set out to test Shri Ram in spite of Shiva’s explicit injunction not to do so. She broke her vow to Shiva in the process, and ultimately ended up losing her status as Shiva’s wife. Seekers often make this mistake, when they refuse to trust the Guru’s words. When in kutarka, they even start doubting things which they otherwise clearly know to be true. At such times, the mind starts doubting everything - the words of others, simple facts and even deep personal experiences. One of the powerful ways to overcome kutarka is to think of it as a momentary delusion of the mind, one of those ‘mood swings’, and surrender it at the feet of the Guru or God.

Curing Gingerly

Ginger, or ginger root is a rhizome so widely used in Ayurveda it’s been referred to as a “medicine chest”. Used around the world as an ingredient in a myriad of dishes, in drinks, as candy and as a spice, ginger is as versatile in the kitchen as it is when used medicinally. As a plant, ginger produces clusters of pink and white buds that blossom into yellow flowers and is often used in landscaping around subtropical homes.

and nausea. But less known are its analgesic (pain relieving), sedative, antibacterial, anti inflammatory and fever reducing properties. Ginger oil has been shown to prevent skin cancer in mice and has demonstrated the ability to kill ovarian cancer cells and 5-LO enzymes without which prostate cancer cells die. It’s also known to break up congestion, improve circulation and reduce arthritis pain. Some of it’s properties are:

Analgesic (Pain killer) Anodyne (Eases pain) MEDICINAL PROPERTIES Anti-Cancer Most widely recognized as a digestive aid, it Antioxidant stimulates digestion, increases motility and Antispasmodic (Lowers incidence of muscle alleviates stomach aches, diarrhea, constipation spasms)

Aphrodisiac Aromatic Arthritis Curative (combines well with turmeric, another anti-inflammatory ) Astringent (Binds faster) COX-2 Inhibitor Digestive (nausea, gas, diarrhoea, constipation, intestinal parasites) Muscle Relaxant Stimulant (aids in boosting efficiency of other herbs) Vasodilator (Causing blood vessels to relax)

CREATIVE CONCOCTIONS The ways to use ginger are as varied as its medicinal properties. Fresh ginger can be chewed to relieve digestive problems. Want to make a tea? You can slice fresh ginger and boil it, or add about a tsp of powdered ginger to warm water, or mix hot water with preserved sweetened ginger. For the latter, sliced ginger root is stored in honey for a few weeks like jam. Sliced orange, lemon, honey or brown sugar are often added to ginger tea.

Headaches: A paste of ginger powder and warm water can be applied to the forehead to relieve headaches.

Body Aches and Arthritis Pain: In addition to tea, grated ginger can be put in a cloth and added to hot bath water (or add 3 to 5 Tbs powdered ginger) to alleviate body aches and promote relaxation.

Kidney Problems: A ginger compress can reduce the pain associated with kidney problems. Try grating some ginger and boiling in water for 15 minutes. Allow to cool slightly then soak a washcloth in the water for 3 minutes before wringing out. Have someone apply the cloth to the low back in the area of the kidneys and gently massage for several minutes. Repeat as necessary. In Burma, ginger and a local sweetener made from palm tree juice (htan nyat) are boiled together to prevent flu. You can also be creative by chopping, grating, or grinding fresh ginger into a paste and adding to a plethora of dishes to create a culinary delight!

Guru Poornima, Celebrating the Advent of a Guru

Guru Poornima is an annual celebration at Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, but many do not know its significance. It is not just celebrated at the ashram, but all over India as it has been a sacred part of the Vedic culture since time immemorial. A Guru is not just an enlightened being. He is not just someone who has achieved the ultimate experience. He is someone who can take that experience and incorporate it into others. The eastern inner scientists or yogis have the greatest respect for the Master or the Guru. He is considered to be equal to God, if not more. He initiates his disciples and gives them confidence to continue growing in the inner world. He is not just an ideal, he is a promise.

is initiation or giving them Shaastra Shastras - the knowledge weapons which fight ignorance. Initiation is the technique of giving Shaastra Shastras. They reside in the individual’s consciousness eternally once they are placed. When an understanding hits our inner space and is absorbed by it, only then does it become a Shaastra Shastra. This weapon has the ability to bring us out of suffering, depression, low moods and grief again and again. The more we use these weapons, the stronger our inner space becomes.

The person who gives his disciples these knowledge weapons simply through his life, his presence and his words is a Guru. When he initiates someone, suddenly some understanding clicks and it stays with the His greatest contribution to his disciples disciple forever.

17

These Shaastra Shastras Taken from NIthyananda’s Talk on Guru Poornima, are called the Inner Guru! 29th July, 2007, Bidadi Ashram Until the Inner Guru is awakened, the Outer Guru will keep working with the disciple. He will keep pushing him into bliss, either by giving him more Shaastra Shastras or by giving him the courage to use the ones he already has. This way, whenever there is suffering or depression, these weapons come out anything else. The material gifts one gives and destroy it. The disciple lives a life of bliss. are symbolic of the 'ahankara' (ego) of the The Guru’s very body language, presence and courage give the disciple the courage they need to move forward with their inner growth. A seed is always afraid of breaking and opening up. The seed which opened up became the tree and this tree gives courage to the remaining seeds. By opening up, they will not die. They will only become trees! The seed waits for a tree to appear and the tree waits for the seeds to open up. In the same way, humans wait for their Gurus to appear and their Gurus wait for them to open their minds to him.

disciple; which is the only thing the guru asks for - the limited identity of the disciple, so he may leave it behind and grow into the limitlessness of the Supreme. In the external act of placing what one considers important to oneself at the guru's feet, one gives a bit of oneself to a higher source. The advent of the Guru in one’s life is the greatest happening possible. The celebration of this advent is Guru Poornima. It is not meant for the glorification of the Master. He is in eternal bliss and every day is a celebration for him, a Nityotsava.

SIGNIFICANCE OF BHIKSHA

dhyanapeetam news On 2nd June this year, Suvarna telecast a completely one-sided, false and malicious video interview with a woman who identified herself as 'Arati Rao', who claimed that our founder and spiritual guru Paramahamsa Nithyananda had sexually abused her in 2005 when she was a visitor to the ashram. The video was re-telecast continuously for over 9 hours that day and for days afterwards. Suvarna also invited public phone-in and panel discussions on this subject. Nithyananda's devotees who called Suvarna were not allowed to participate in the phone-in. Significantly, NO OTHER PRESS OF ELECTRONIC MEDIA PICKED UP OR RAN THIS STORY. On 7th June, Nithyananda held a press meet in his headquarters in Bidadi near Bangalore to address this issue. In the middle of the press meet, a Suvarna TV editor identified as Ajit jumped the barricade near the dais, and attempted to hand an unidentified paper package to Swamiji, which he claimed to be a court summons. Sensing a possible security hazard, ashram personnel tried to remove him and the package from the hall. It was later discovered that a group of 20 persons with an agenda to disrupt the press meet had trespassed into the campus by showing their media cards, and carried out this deliberate illegal attempt. The same person also abused the women devotees of Nithyananda by calling them prostitutes, and his henchmen molested one of our sannyasinis.

SUMMONS ILLEGAL ACCORDING TO HAGUE CONVENTION According to the Hague Convention (2007) as applicable to India, only a judicial officer authorized by a Central Authority Ministry of Law & Justice) can serve a summons. Ajit, editor of Suvarna is a media person, not an authorized judicial officer.

18

19

dhyanapeetam news Trying to serve summons illegally is a planned crime and a fraud. Also, by serving an illegal summons publicly to Nithyananda and telecasting the same on live TV being watched by thousands, Ajit has made a deliberate and malicious attempt to smear the public reputation of Nithyananda. This is definitely a planned conspiracy against Nithyananda and Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam co-ordinated by Suvarna. We request the law to look into these grave offences and take immediate action against Ajit, Suvarna TV and all others responsible for this conspiracy.

SUVARNA HENCHMNEN ASSAULT ON ASHRAMITES AT PRESS MEET In a shocking incident that happened the same evening - Suvarna’s Outdoor Broadcast van arrived at the ashram gates, accompanied by a mob of some 50 people men armed with weapons, calling themselves ‘Karnataka Navanirmana Sene’. The mob began raising slogans against Paramahamsa Nithyananda. When ashramites went to inquire about the matter, about 10 of the thugs scaled the locked gates of the ashram, entered the premises illegally and first assaulted Sri Mayatitananda, the brahmachari handling the ashram camera, and damaged the camera to ensure that no video recording could take place. They started threatening and assaulting our unarmed sannyasis with rocks, stones, iron rods and furniture. In a clear attempt to murder, the mob then pushed the ashram administrator Sri Atmaprabhananda to the ground and assaulted him with a huge stone, causing severe head injuries and profuse bleeding. The other ashramites who rushed to their aid were also manhandled and abused, including women ashramites. Sri Atmaprabhananda was taken to hospital with head injuries, and his condition is causing us grave concern.

dhyanapeetam news

20

Throughout all this, Suvarna TV's OB van stood outside the ashram gate and telecast this shameless assault LIVE on their channel. The administrator Sri Atmaprabhananda is in hospital with severe head injuries and his condition is still causing concern.

ASSAULT ON ASHRAM ADMINISTRATOR SRI ATMAPRABHANANDA & OTHER ASHRAMITES The following day (8th June), the ashramites held one more press meet to make the previous day’s matters public. Suvarna TV tried to force its entry into the ashram for this press meet, but was not allowed inside the campus for security purposes. Some members of ‘Karnataka Navanirmana Sene’ wearing false media cards, entered into the hall and violently disrupted this meet, assaulting ashram brahmacharis and brahmacharinis. Outside the hall, a group of their supporters was waiting. They started raising violent slogans against us. The mob beat up several of our ashramites and volunteers, causing many injuries. They manhandled many of our women and molested one of them. Unbelievably, Suvarna editor Ajit filed complaints of assault against the ashramites by, leading to the arrest of 16 ashramites, including 10 women. They were released later that day. In the following days, Suvarna channel initiated a sustained and virulent hate campaign against Paramahamsa Nithyananda and Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, accusing the ashram of all possible illegal activities and inviting ‘guests’ to speak out against both. The question is, why did an established criminal like Arati Rao approach only a single TV channel, that too a channel like Suvarna which is well-known for telecasting sensationalism, not facts?

21

dhyanapeetam news The very fact that not a single other print/ TV channel picked up the story speaks for itself. Suvarna anchor Ranganath Bharadwaj has personally stated that Arati had approached many channels, but only Suvarna as willing to air her story. While other media made an intelligent and socially responsible decision, Suvarna clearly used the opportunity to further its own vested interests.

ARATI RAO IS A CARRIER OF STD Arati Rao is the carrier of an incurable sexually transmitted disease (STD) called Herpes 2. This disease is highly contagious (even more than AIDS) because it can spread through the slightest physical contact, including saliva. Arati Rao approached Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam in 2005 to be healed of this disease. She confessed to ashram authorities that this disease had been transmitted to her through several illicit relationships. The woman has now claimed 40 incidents of abuse by Nithyananda, but even a single incidence of contact is sufficient for the disease to be transmitted to the other person. Nithyananda has already submitted all relevant evidence, along with hisy blood tests proving that he not carrying the disease, to the investigative authorities, including the Karnataka police and the High Court of Karnataka.

ARATI RAO HAS A CRIMINAL RECORD In her chargesheet against Nithyananda in Nov 2010, Arati Rao had clearly stated that she was instrumental in the morphed video conspiracy against Nithyananda along with Lenin Karuppan. Also, she is facing multiple charges of fraud, extortion and abuse in India and USA.

dhyanapeetam news

22

She is right now evading SIX summons in India, multiple COURT ORDERS in the USA and police investigation in both countries. Lenin Karuppan has been arrested and is now in Puzhal jail in Chennai.

FORCING A COMMUNAL ANGLE TO COVER UP ACT OF ROWDYISM As Nithyananda belongs to the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu, an deliberate attempt was made to escalate the issue into a communal conflict, by demanding the eviction of Nithyananda and his spiritual community from Karnataka state. Using the rowdy elements of ‘Karnataka Navanirmana Sene’ as a façade, Suvarna tried to give a communal color to an issue which was no more than pure rowdyism and vandalism on their part. On 9th June, several newspapers and TV channels (including Suvarna channel and TV9) started airing the news on their websites and TV news shows that an arrest warrant has been issued against Nithyananda on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri Sadananda Gowda. A lockout of the ashram had also been ordered. On the 11th and 12th of June, the ashram was suddenly subjected to a thorough search by a platoon of about 50 members of the police led by the District Commissioner, who sealed off certain areas of the ashram, stopped the movement of people and materials in or out of the ashram and investigated our ashramites, including the children studying in our gurukul. No written order was given to us authorizing either the search, the sealing of the ashram or the investigation. Hence this was a completely illegal operation that not only violated our human rights, but instilled terror and caused irreparable trauma to our ashramites, especially to our children.

23

dhyanapeetam news PARAMAHAMSA NITHYANANDA ILLEGALLY ARRESTED On 13th June, when Paramahamsa Nithyananda appeared at the Ramanagara Magistrate Court for court proceedings, he was arrested without warning and taken into judicial custody on the basis of the FIR filed by Ajit of Suvarna channel. He was released on bail the next day. Within minutes of his receiving bail, however, he was booked under sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC (Criminal Procedure Code) for apprehended ‘breach of peace’, and was moved to Mysore Jail. This is a shocking, unconstitutional, disgraceful and thoroughly condemnable act. It may be recalled that the law and order breach was caused by certain anti-social elements, not by Paramahamsa Nithyananda. Under the guise of ‘providing protection’, the state had ordered the arrest of an individual without any grounds. It may be recalled that the Delhi police had used the same CrPC sections to illegally arrest social activist Anna Hazare in August 2011 for his anticorruption drive. See link; http://ibnlive.in.com/ news/war-over-lokpal-bill-annahazare-detained/175930-3.html The Sections clearly state that an individual can be apprehended only when there is sufficient grounds to suspect that he is a threat to public peace or safety. However, Nithyananda and his ashram were clearly the VICTIMS of assault, not the perpetrators. In an unheard-of move, Instead of arresting the perpetrators, the State ordered the arrest of the victim for purposes of maintaining peace.

dhyanapeetam news

24

pertinent observations made by Nithyananda’s counsel, renowned lawyer C V Nagesh • The Chief Minister of a state is NOT authorized to order the arrest of a person or the lockout of a company. • Even if such an order is issued, the police cannot act on the CM’s order and arrest someone without examining the case. • Why was Nithyananda not being given bail when the offence is bailable? Moreover, on receiving bail in the first case (FIR by Suvarna editor Ajit) Paramahamsa Nithyananda had clearly stated that he would be going to Madurai, so there was no grounds for arresting him again citing CrPC 107 & 151, saying that he could cause ‘breach of peace’. • As soon as Nithyananda got bail in the first case, he was arrested again - we suspect foul play here - some other hands which have influenced the matter. • If the state cannot control a small law & order situation, do they ‘protect’ a citizen by putting him in prison?!

Nithyananda and devotees undertake peaceful religious fast until release Following his re-arrest on 14th June, Paramahamsa Nithyananda embarked on a religious fast in prison until his release. The fast was in view of the continued unconstitutional actions and human rights violations against himself and his spiritual organization. He was joined by thousand`s of his followers and supporters around the world, who entered into a peaceful fast with prayer, undertaken as a voluntary religious practice to secure their spiritual master’s release from prison, where he was illegally detained.

Nithyananda devotee files habeas corpus petition in High Court In the meantime, a habeas corpus petition (No.108/ 2012) was filed in the Karnataka High Court by a devotee of Paramahamsa Nithyananda by name Valli Ramanathan, seeking directions for Nithyananda to be produced before the court and released in the interests of justice, as constitutional rights were being violated and his detention was illegal.

PARAMAHAMSA NITHYANANDA RELEASED FROM ILLEGAL ARREST On the night of 15th June, Paramahamsa Nithyananda was finally granted bail against a bond of Rs. 1 lakh and 2 sureties of Rs. 1 lakh each ( a stunning total of Rs.3 lakh Rs.300,000/-). His situation is far from safe, as his bail is liable to revoked at any moment is the authorities suspect any possible ‘breach of peace’. The Bidadi ashram is still under siege, and the 100odd people inside are in constant danger of another senseless and vicious attack any moment. The ashram members are unable to carry on their normal religious and spiritual activities and are forced to hold their religious ceremonies outdoors, as they have been forbidden from using the ashram’s four meditation halls. This is a gross violation of their right to worship and to live in peace inside their own home.

dhyanapeetam news As is obvious from the above, those with vested interests have spared no effort in spreading rumors and attempting to influence public opinion against us using brute force, political power, media power and money power. However, Paramahamsa Nithyananda and Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam rest their faith in the law and in spiritual power, which is a blessing from the Divine. We appeal to all socially conscious media and the discerning public to support us in our campaign against this gross violation of our human rights, including our right to practice our chosen religion in peace and with dignity.

MESSAGE FROM PARAMAHAMSA NITHYANANDA “I just have one message for both my devotees and for the anti-social elements who are doing this violence to us: Nobody can stop us from doing the good spiritual and social work that we are doing. All our charitable work will continue. Annadaanam (free food for all) will continue in all my ashrams, wherever it is possible by law. I have faith in the Divine, and in the law, and in the people of Karnataka. I know for sure that the Karnataka people are not opposing me, only the anti-social elements are doing this for their own vested interests and cheap publicity. We cannot fight lawlessness with lawlessness. We will conquer lawlessness with law! Ultimately we will get justice.

Action without performance is karma, action with performance is karma yoga. Action need not always lead to performance, but intense action always leads to performance. When you are in action, it is karma, when you are in intense action, it is karma yoga. According to the Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2Sankhya Yoga, Verse 50, "buddhi-yukto jahatiha ubhe sukrta-duskrte tasmad yogaya yujyasva yogah karmasu kausalam” “In this world, the one filled with knowledge relinquishes both virtuous and evil deeds. Therefore attach yourself to application for application is natural property of skillfulness!” Yoga is efficiency in action. Yoga is perfection in action. Being established in knowledge, be unclutched from virtuous or evil deeds. Put your whole energy in just application, because yoga is efficiency in action. Taken from Nithyananda’s Talks on the Bhagavad Gita

"buddhi-yukto jahatiha” means ‘established in shining clarity’. If you had a complete, fulfilling, satisfied sleep and wake up in the morning without having worries and stress, if you can look at the world with clean eyes, that moment is endowed or filled with clarity. Here Bhagavan is saying “buddhiyukto jahatiha” - established in knowledge. It means, the mind with which you are taking cognizance should be established in knowledge. Your cognition process should be established on this ultimate truth of life and death.

Q&A Answ e re d b y Ni t hya na nda

Nithyanandam Swamiji, I have a doubt – Does space through that relationship. So efficiency Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam need be practiced means action having the effect in the outer or does it happen on its own? world and in the inner world. Unfortunately, whole humanity is established in laziness. I am Initially it has to be practiced and then the telling you the truth. Breaking the blanket of ultimate efficiency, the perfection happens. laziness whenever it surrounds you, whenever Don’t be waiting for it to happen. It has to be you pamper yourself, whenever you think you practiced! It is good you asked this question. have done too much. Breaking the laziness Otherwise many will be thinking – ‘Oh it will blanket which is covering you slowly is happen!’. So I am making it very clear, it has to efficiency! be practiced in every step, in every moment. If perfection is measured by the result of the Swamiji, can you please explain what you action, doesn’t it make us focus on the result? mean by ‘efficiency’? Efficiency means efficiency! Efficiency means the action should have its desired effect in outer world and the inner world. It should be like a double edged sword. If I have to give an example - morning you get up and do Yoga. The action of doing Yoga should create the desired result in the outer world which means the body becoming healthy. In the same way it should create the desired result in the inner world which is creating a positive pattern or positive mental set up which is the purpose of Yoga. Similarly, if you are creating a relationship, it should create the friendly relationship and it should bring the happiness and fulfillment which you are supposed to have in your inner

Perfection is not measured by the result of the action, it is measured by the way you are acting. Understand, it is the quality of the action, not the quantity of the action. Only when the quality is not there, you will have time to measure the quantity of the action. So perfection is not measured by the result of the action, it is measured by the quality of the action. But I tell you when the quality is there the quantity also will follow even though you don’t bother about it. It is like you walk without bothering about the shadow, but the shadow follows you. Same way, in the quality, in the Kaushalam, in the efficiency, you walk and it follows – the quantity also follows you.

main story

Nithyanandam Swamiji! You have said that the ultimate happens when you move away from good as well as bad deeds. But isn’t efficiency a good deed?

If one has an intense longing for the divine but without doing any corresponding action won’t the longing itself draw the divine grace and enlightenment to oneself?

Efficiency is not a good deed, efficiency is a good mental set up, it is a good mental pattern. So don’t worry about it, move to the good pattern. When I say good pattern I can say it is beyond good and bad actions.

If this intense longing for the divine really starts in you, you cannot be just keeping quiet without doing any corresponding action. If you have an intense longing, first you will do everything possible. But the action alone will not get the enlightenment to you. There will be a time when you will not know what to do. At one spot, at one time, at one moment, all your actions will feel like fruitless where you will feel you are not able to do anything. You have become a pure longing without any action. At that moment enlightenment will be attracted towards you. So understand tamas, rajas, satva. Tamas means having a pseudo longing and not doing anything - never expect divine will be attracted towards you at that time – no, nothing will happen. Second – rajas – having longing and working. Third satva – having pure longing but have not left anything undone, not left single stone unturned. Did everything and now only pure longing is there - at that moment enlightenment will be drawn towards yourself. You will achieve the divine grace.

Pranam Swamiji! Can you explain the difference between perfection and perfectionism. Perfection is you training yourself, you doing the tapas to make yourself perfect. Perfectionism is you torturing others to be perfect. If efficiency means producing the desired result inside and outside, doesn’t that mean that we will be carrying the desire for the results? No. When you start acting, you will understand how the very concept of desire, your very fear that you may not be able to drop your desire will disappear. See it is like many of the people who have been relating with deities through worship by everyday puja will be afraid to come to meditation because they feel ‘oh! I may drop this worship, then what will happen? I may not feel this strong connection with the divine!’. But you don’t understand. Start the internal relating with the divine. I don’t want to say you will not drop the deities. But even if you drop, you will not miss it - you will go beyond it. Same way, now you have the fear that you may drop these desires. Enter into the zone of efficiency. Yogah karmasu kaushalam. Suddenly you will see your desires and the fear you may not be able to drop your desires, you may have to struggle with your desires both will drop. Both will automatically be dropped. You will have result more than what you desired.

How can one make effort in an effortless way? You don’t need to do it in effortless way, do effort, I am very clear. Let the effortless way happen in you. First do Upasana, then let the Vipassana happen in you. Upasana means worship - action based process. Vipassana means inaction based effortless awareness. Let you start with Upasana. Then Vipassana will happen. Don’t think that straight away Vipassana will land on your head. Let there be pure effort, then automatically the effortlessness will be achieved.

“Feel your substance, bones, flesh, and it fades away very quickly. blood saturated with the cosmic Try this experiment. Just for ten days feel as if your substance, bones, flesh, blood is essence”. Mahadeva (Lord Shiva) is giving this sutra for all seekers regardless of their level. This sutra is Nithya Sutra (technique), Dhyana Sutra (meditation), Ananda Sutra (experience) and something more. It is also a great blessing. This technique can be internalized and practiced for the whole day, or practiced at a particular time, either in the morning or in the evening, or it can be remembered any time and it will put you in ecstasy. As of now, either humans don’t feel at all, if at all sometimes they feel, only when there is sadness filling them, only sadness brings depth in them. Happiness is never felt penetrating inside their muscles. Happiness is felt only in the head, only one small layer

filled, overflowing with sadness, visualizing your whole being, your whole life saturated with sadness. Why sadness? Because if you fantasize with happiness you feel there is something wrong, you worry, and with sadness you think everything is perfect and it is so easy for you because you have mastered sadness!

But do it consciously, without fighting it. Suddenly, at one moment you will feel such a big relief! Sadness cannot depress you anymore. Only when you try to escape from depression or sadness you will be continuously suffering with it. It will be chasing you. Just try to chase sadness. Inhale and exhale sadness.

Shake the Roots of Negativity Taken From Nithyananda’s Shiva Sutra Talks on December 4th, 2007, Nithyananda Vedic Temple, Los Angeles, USA

Some people tell me to visualize positive things. How many times have you tried positive thinking? Did anything positive happen to you? Realize, positive thinking is nothing but selling “feel good” feelings. It is not going to take you anywhere. Mahadeva knows the different paradoxical minds, the mental set up of humans. Try any positive thinking and you will always have an undercurrent of negativity. Practice this paradoxical method. Sometimes you have to use different methods to create the experience you want to have. You may have to go down to jump. Mind lives between mood swings and paradoxes. If you just fall to the same side to which the mind is dragging

you, suddenly you will see that your mind will not have roots, it won’t have a base on you to exist. This is the best way to make your mind lose its power and leave you. If you just move to one extreme along with your mind, suddenly you will see your mind loses its power over you, it will feel shy and it will run away, it will escape. All you need to do is to cooperate with your mind for ten days straight. Not only cooperate, you will overdose, shake the roots of negativity of your mind, go to the extreme negativity, feel like nothing is working in your life, just remember, act, meditate on sadness whole day and night and suddenly you will see depression is not able to depress you anymore.

Healing Science or Mystery ? The subtle energies of the human body are expressed, described and consciously used in all mystical and spiritual traditions of the world. These healers and mystics have full knowledge about these energies and they have experienced them consciously. In the Vedic tradition this subtle energy is known as the Prana Shakti, in China as Chi, In Japan as Ki and in Hawaii as mana. There are many names for it, but they are all referring to the natural healing energy that is present within all living beings. When this energy is expressed, whatever alterations that happen within the body are called healing. This same energy when expressed in different dimensions is called by different names. Anything outside the body is termed as a miracle. Essentially, the energy used is the same.

This has been proven many times through experiments, like when you bring a guitar near a piano and play a certain key, the guitar strings vibrate to produce the same note that is played on the piano.

This is why, when people approach Nithyananda to discuss their problems, they tend to forget them! The problems are not important anymore, they lose their power over the person. Similarly when one holds on to problems and does not forget insignificant matters, they are restricting the Master from working on them. They do not let themselves be raised to a higher frequency and healing does not happen. The mind creates all kinds of doubts. What one thinks is good for him, he accepts. What he thinks is bad for him, he rejects. However, nobody knows what is good or bad for them better than an enlightened being. Out of the Master’s compassion, he cast itself over them.

Spiritually, the process of levitation happens in two stages - psychological, then physical. A healed samana means the possibility of physical levitation. If one is waiting for levitation to happen, it will not. This is because levitation is nothing but a by-product of the enlightenment process. Vitarka, Logic that Inspires Taken from Nithyananda’s Talks compiled as 108eNVideos

Mystical experiences are more than just experiences, they are windows to a world of possibilities. There was a mystical incident in Nithyananda’s life which he describes as one of the strongest experiences of his life. Since early childhood, Nithyananda had a fascination and strong connection with deities. In the Hindu tradition it is a common practice to connect with the divine through a form, a ‘deity’ which is a representation of one of the many different energies of the Divine. As a young boy, Nithyananda had a Lord Ganesha deity, the elephant God who removes all obstacles. He would care for the deity like he was caring for a living being with a strong devotion, doing pooja to the deity every day, bathing it, clothing it and offering it food.

where he heard a talk describing an incident in the life of Nambiandar Nambi, from South India. The story talked of him making a Ganesha deity eat food in his early childhood. This story inspired Nithyananda to make his Ganesha deity eat as well.

He offered the food to his Ganesha deity and prayed to the deity to accept it. When the deity did not eat, he was puzzled. Nithyananda had seen his grandmothers in the house threaten the kids to get them to eat food. So, he tried the same technique on the deity as well. He put the deity in the bucket used to fetch water from the well and lowered it, threatening the deity to eat, else he would throw it in the well. He tried lowering the deity several times, but it did not work. This confused him. No matter One day Nithyananda went to the Arunachala what he said, he did not have the heart to temple in his home town, Thiruvannamalai drown the deity which he loved very much.

He then thought that perhaps Ganesha did not like the food cooked by his mother. So, he went to the temple and got the prasadam offered to the temple deities for his own deity. He waited and waited for the Ganesha to accept his offering, but nothing happened. Nithyananda then contemplated deeply and started probing into the situation, trying to find the reason why the deity accepted the offering of the Nambiandar Nambi but not his offering. It suddenly occurred to him that to make the deity eat the food, the Saint had been hitting his head on the steps, torturing his own self, while Nithyananda was torturing the deity! He then decided with a strong will that he would not eat until Ganesha ate. Nithyananda did not eat for two and a half days! He fell into a high state of awareness and lost the external consciousness. He had a vision where he saw that Ganesha was really eating. When he opened his eyes, he saw make him eat, it was his experience of vitarka. that the food was gone! Ganesha had finally accepted the food offered by him. Vitarka is the right connection beyond logic. Any thought which leads to ananda or bliss Nithyananda understood through this mystical is vitarka. The ancient Vedic civilization of India offered a culture and lifestyle that facilitated whole-brain learning. Much of this wisdom remains available today. In Nithyananda Gurukul it has been brought back to life, and is being used to create the education system for the 21st century. Cuttingedge technology goes hand-in-hand with ancient cultural art forms to provide the best in class education for children. The higher truths of life are instilled in children from a young age, along with rigorous yoga training, to give them a yogic body and vedic mind. Under the guidance of Nithyananda, creativity and intelligence is beautifully blossoming in the Gurukul kids. They express extraordinary talents, erstwhile not seen commonly in children of their age. Recently a camp was organized in Bidadi where Gurukul kids were trained in the ancient art of Malkhamb.

Climbing to Mallakhamb or Malkhamb is a combination of traditional Indian gymnastic and martial arts and is being practiced since 12th century. Malkhamb is a traditional Indian sport in which a gymnast performs feats and poses using a vertical wooden pole or rope. Malkhamb provides optimum exercise to the entire body in the least possible time. It helps in providing perfect shape and form to the body and giving remarkable control over the limbs. Due to continuous twisting and turning, the whole body gets massaged and every cell is rejuvenated. It stimulates the critical acupressure points and regulates the blood flow in the body. It enhances external muscles and increases the efficiency of internal systems.

53

Malkhamb inculcates varied yogic postures and pranayamas. The practitioner displays mental and physical attributes like flexibility, focus and balance. It enhances the functioning of brain and improves faculties like memory, concentration and co-ordination. Pole Malkhamb is generally performed by males but the rope Malkhamb has no gender restriction. Treating the rope with due reverence and respect, the gymnast slides up and down the rope. Once the practitioner slides up he/she assumes yogic asanas like padmasana, ardha-chakrasana etc. and often combines them with more complex routines. The rope gymnast develops alertness, focus and balance.

Enlightenment It usually takes months of penance and practice for the gymnasts to master this discipline of yoga. But the gurukul kids have been quick and agile enough to learn Malkhamb in a very short time. By the second day itself the kids were doing unbelievably well. They were inquisitive and picked up the finer details of this sacred art easily. By the end of the camp the kids were able to perform complex postures and were fearlessly doing the dare devil acts on poles and ropes. Through creative and innovative ways of learning the Gurukul kids once again demonstrate extraordinary talents and capabilities possible in the care of an enlightened master.
