Eat, sleep, dishes, repeat. A summer in quarantine is something no young adult spends their days dreaming of. Aſter a semester of hard work and crossing off tasks deadline aſter deadline, these 2 months don’t feel like a fitting reward. Equivalent to giving a dog a rotten piece of broccoli aſter successfully completing a trick. All I can say is that dog will never sit on command or give you a paw again. All this free time and we had to walk through shops like it is the apocalypse and the deadliest weapon: a sneeze. A coffee with a friend would’ve been nice, but unfortunately they’re so paranoid they drown their ear in hand sanitizer aſter just one phone call. It could be blamed on the conspiracies surrounding 5G, but it’s still hard not to have taken offence. Seconds tick by like the universe just figured out how to use slow motion. Was it ever going to end?
I’d love to brag and say I can now play the piano blindfolded, but from my 10 hours a day Instagram binge I’ve only concluded that cat videos are da bomb. I also discovered that every post where a laser pointer is involved you better be ready to LOL alone in your room like a weirdo. Aſter this summer the word “productivity” almost completely disappeared from my vocabulary.
So instead of reflecting on this idealized world where I was baking souffles while playing the piano and simultaneously getting several online degrees, we’re going to get real. This summer was all about survival, and we can be proud. This experience is probably how people are tortured for information as an alternative to waterboarding or shocks to the nipples. So, don’t see these past 2 months as a waste of time. Be proud of lasting through it! Be proud that you didn’t accidentally amputate your bottom from sitting all day! Be proud that you didn’t starve to death aſter getting sick of Nutella sandwiches and half-cooked pasta! Be proud…
